Rocket League “Supersonic Fury” DLC Pack Coming This August

Jeremy Dunham's Avatar Posted by Vice President of Marketing, Psyonix

Thank you! Thank you very much!

We’re extremely excited about the success of Rocket League since its launch in PlayStation Plus on July 7th — we couldn’t have done it without you! For those of you who haven’t played Rocket League, it’s still available for free on PlayStation Plus until August 4th so join in on the fun!

We thought we’d bring you a complete rundown of what to expect in our upcoming “Supersonic Fury” DLC Pack.

As we mentioned in our launch post earlier this month, the Supersonic Fury DLC Pack includes two brand new Battle-Cars: the over-the-top American muscle car Dominus, and the souped-up Japanese street racer Takumi. Both of these vehicles offer six different Decals for Garage customization (12 total) and are only available for play in the DLC.

Besides the new Battle-Cars, the DLC Pack also includes two all-new Rocket Boosts (“Nitrous” and “Burnout”), two new Wheel sets (the soccer ball-themed “Cristiano” and the very-cool “Spinner” set), five all-new Paint Types (“Brushed Metal,” “Carbon Fiber,” “Metallic Pearl,” “Pearlescent,” and “Wood”), and a handful of new Trophies. This entire collection will be available in early August for $3.99.

Rocket League: Supersonic FuryRocket League: Supersonic Fury

In addition to the Supersonic Fury DLC, we will also release a free game update that offers an assortment of new content, including our first new map, Utopia Coliseum, and more than 70 new country flags. The long-awaited “Spectator Mode” will be in there too, allowing viewers to watch live games in real-time from any angle in the arena. Spectator controls are very similar to that of our existing “Replay Viewer’s,” so start practicing now and get ready for the drop!

Further enhancements, like updated Goal explosions and Demolitions, are planned for the free update as well, along with the brand new song, “Firework,” from the critically-acclaimed electronica group, Hollywood Principle.

Rocket League: Supersonic Fury

It is our sincere hope that this mix of paid DLC and free add-on content is what Rocket League fans have been waiting for, and it’s just the beginning of what is plenty more to come. Thanks once again for your continued support and we’ll see you again very, very soon.

Cool, I guess. I would like to see the helium removed from the ball and replaced with air so that the “physics” of the ball were easier to predict.

    SaviorMachine said:

    July 30th, 7:08 am

The air game would be way too hard if gravity on the ball and on the cars was normal.

    Phoenix00017 said:

    July 30th, 7:58 am

I hear Tom Brady has some time on his hands and could help you with that.

    drd7of14 said:

    July 30th, 8:03 am

You can predict it, you just need to learn the rules of the game and its physics.

    MercenarythePyro said:

    July 30th, 9:12 am

If the Physics and Gravity of the game were realistic, considering the Ball is much bigger than our cars, it wouldn’t really be Rocket League anymore, we’d be spending more time just trying to get the ball to move, rather than making the next goal, so, the Physics of the ball are just about perfect for what the game is as of right now.

Now, I’m not disagreeing with you, I wouldn’t mind having the Ball be a bit heavier, but not by much, or as I’ve stated, it won’t feel like Rocket League anymore.

We should really enjoy the game for what it is, and just be grateful that this beautiful game has graced our PlayStations.

    MakaiOokami said:

    July 30th, 10:44 am

You want to take away one of the parts that makes the game hard to master?

If the game was just easy to play easy to master, would it even be fun?

    RIGGSR44 said:

    July 30th, 10:58 am

Why would they change one of the things that make this game easy to play but hard to master? I get frustrated with the ball physics but most of the time its due to my error for no compensating to the games physics, and I still do pretty well.

It’s a shame this is the most visible comment.

That’s cool too, I guess. Me, I would like to see you go back under the rock you came from and not leave such a wasteful comment to these wonderful devs. Thank you PsyOnix for this awesome game and new DLC.

When a game this good is “free” on PS+ I get that funny feeling too, but remember your subscription is paying Sony and they are compensating the developers, so no worries :-)

It would be AWESOME if they would add a feature that would enable music in game. The soundtrack too good.

We’ve been talking about more ways to allow players to enjoy the music in-game. We’re definitely open to more ideas!

    JGE1GER said:

Just open up the game soundtrack on the Spotify app and then enter games.

    FLUX-UK said:

you know you can use the usb music player for that

    AdamBlaster007 said:

I belive a music feature should be added in-game without the use of external apps for those who are technologically challenged (not me) or those whodon’t own a smart phone (definitly me).

    luckymouse said:

    August 8th, 1:40 am

@AdamBlaster007 People should just educate themselves on the devices that they use. Developers shouldn’t have to create a custom music play solution when the OS of the PS4 has a centralized way of doing it.

Count me in guys! You deserve it after giving us this fantastic game for free! In the future can we get some arenas that have different layouts though? That would be awesome!

royalknight83 said:

Hooked on this game even tho I’m not good. Haven’t had this much fun in a while. Count me in on the DLC. Team Fat!

DaveedT13 said:

July 30th, 7:29 am

Awesome, I’ll buy this DAY ONE. :)

It would be great if you think about adding bonus modes like:

– Square Arena for 4 teams of 2, or another shape for 2vs2vs2. :) Even more chaos than 4vs4! :D You should test this internally!

– Volleyball/Tennis hybrid mode were the 2 teams are restricted to their arena’s halves, with at least 4-5 “passes” allowed and maybe a more floating ball for this one, the goal is to not let the ball hit the ground on your side.

– Bowling mode…or any other crazy bonus mode you could come off with, you have the cars and ball engine so…really hope to see one of these ideas implemented! :)

I’ll buy all your futures DLCs if priced right but I really hope for some arenas that will have some difference in gameplay…like not rectangular or with goals being shaped differently or in the air like in football! ;)

Congrats to the Team!

    drd7of14 said:

    July 30th, 8:13 am

Not bad ideas…I like all of them! I think the game does need some fun arcade-y modes to play around in…I’m thinking like Flatout-esque.

    Xoombie503 said:

    July 30th, 12:56 pm

The original supersonic acrobatic rocket powered battle cars had the volleyball mode where you would explode if you cross your side,i would like that to be back.

    DaveedT13 said:

    July 30th, 3:04 pm

    @drd7of14 :
Flat out-esque yeah could be really fun! :) any bonus mode with the same physics I’ll play it!

    @Xoombie503 :
Really? I played the original and I didn’t even remember that, was it on PC only? I played on PS3. Was thinking my idea was original! LOL

    AdamBlaster007 said:

    August 3rd, 12:38 am

I completely agree and on a side note I would like to add that there should be arenas with some terrain in them like ramps, hills, and dips not just you know… Flat. Rectangler. Fields. Not that I don’t like the game I actually very much enjoy it and some variation would definitely liven the gameplay up oh and if you could maybe custom arenas could be a thing too so that you could create you own obstacles and terrain inside the arena.

We are definitely looking at ways to improve/ expand on the current cross-play experience, but it wouldn’t be a party system like most would imagine. The complexities are many.

Treefingers1 said:

July 30th, 8:20 am

This game is special. It would have to be, since it’s managed to divert my attention from the Witcher 3 and Batman: Arkham Knight, which are both legitimately great. Rocket League is the best multi-player game I’ve played in years, and I eagerly await the opportunity to support the developers by buying the upcoming DLC.

If any of the developers are reading this, did they take any inspiration from the old Unreal Tournament 2k4 mod called Deathball? It was never very popular (only a few servers were ever available to play on), but it had a similar feel with an awesome learning curve that made you feel like you were actually getting better as you played. I’d post a link to a youtube video, but I’m not sure if that’s allowed on the PS blogs.

    StevenJamesHyde said:

    July 30th, 8:36 am

The Unreal Tournament mod has an official sequel – it’s called SupraBall and it’s available on PC. There are definitely similarities, but I find Rocket League more accessible

To anyone: Whether you have PS Plus or not, I can’t recommend this game enough. The core game is so fun, and I can tell this is just the ground floor. I feel it’s going to get better and better with the updates and DLC.

I’m definitely getting this DLC pack. I’m happy to see it’s not just new cars either. I love the music as well. Can’t wait to play it and see more. GO TEAM FAT!

AWESOME. Also, love the new song.

swift4010 said:

July 30th, 8:38 am

Looks good!

If the developers are reading this, it would be great if you added in some extra point incentives to being a dedicated goalie. Often times a good goalie can win the game for the team, but is almost always at the bottom of the scoreboard. Perhaps points over time for staying in net (small amount) or improving the “save” detection? Often times I get saves but no points, or even adding in an interference point bonus for blocking a cantering pass? Just some thoughts, great game guys!

    WhosAndre199X said:

    July 31st, 11:28 am

I have to agree with swift4010. I think more point bonuses for defense would encourage more strategic play, for things like tackles, clean sheets, and long passes up the field. I also think it would be really cool if there were replays for epic saves, if it could be incorporated without cutting the flow of the game. Last thing I would say is it would be cool if there were cars with larger bodies for defensive players to help with blocking shots and getting clearances, maybe trade a bit of speed or boost for the bigger car.

M1CH03L said:

July 30th, 8:39 am

Would love a game mode where the map changes every minute or something. So maybe the map is tilted one way for a bit, then tilts another etc. Or a low gravity mode or something. The possibilities are endless!!

We’re not really big on the idea of having Season Passes for our game, to be honest.

Why are we taking that position? Because we plan on modifying/ adjusting our DLC over time based on community needs.A Season Pass requires a certain amount of commitment from the outset — i.e., you’re selling the promise of a certain number content pieces and we don’t want to sell you anything until we know it is first and that we know that our community wants it.

In other words, we don’t plan on doing Season Passes because we want to be flexible and not put ourselves into a position where we could potentially break promises because of a time or content problem. That would suck.

I read the lines after the video, so not sure if I missed it in the paragraphs above, but hopefully when this is available there will be updates to fix the KM tracking, and so that it knows that I’m online on the main screen. Also, it would be nice if distance travelled was added to the stat screen.

And our sound guy is always looking for new ways to add/ improve the game, so anything is possible (though, the audio is stylized specifically for each map, so if something was out of place, it likely wouldn’t go in there).

That’s an idea we floated around here around the same time we secured Sweet Tooth from Twisted Metal, but ultimately, we decided not to ask for that one. Those vehicles don’t have any wheels, so it would drastically change the physics and gameplay to have something from Pir-hana or Auricom.

    JUMPhil_JcB said:

    July 30th, 9:23 pm

That would be amazing, would definitely pay for that. You could make it a mostly cosmetic change with only minor difference in physics. Just Rocket-Leaguify them. That won’t be quite true to WipEout but hey in Resogun’s WipEout DLC they just float around as spaceships which they can’t actually do either.
