Vote to Play Coming Soon Exclusively for PS Plus Members

PlayStation

Hey PlayStation Nation – as you all know, we love to hear your feedback and work to bring those asks, demands and needs to life wherever possible. With that in mind, I’m thrilled to announce a new PlayStation Plus promotion that literally puts the choice in your hands – Vote to Play. This promotion enables PlayStation Plus members to vote on one of several PlayStation 4 games for the upcoming month’s Instant Game Collection.

The game with the most votes will automatically be included in our future free game lineup for PlayStation Plus. If your pick didn’t make the lineup, don’t worry. In the first promotion, PlayStation Plus members can get the runner ups at a discount. We love to listen to our fans – and we’re super excited to launch this promotion.

We’ll have more details for you soon on when voting begins, what titles will be up for voting, and how you can cast your vote.

If you don’t already have a PlayStation Plus account and would like to learn more on the benefits of PlayStation Plus, such as the Instant Game Collection, access to online multiplayer on PS4, exclusive member discounts, cloud game saves and more, click here.

  • Since most of the people here apparently doesn’t know how to read…

I’M VOTING FOR FALLOUT 4 AS AN IGC TITLE!!!!!!!!!

    FALLOUT 4! FALLOUT 4! FALLOUT 4! FALLOUT 4! =)

    YAAAAAYYYY!!!!

    x’D

  • I like the idea but people are just going to pick AAA titles anyway because…reasons

  • This sounds great! If one (1) of the Plus titles each month is up for voting, then it can give players a feeling of agency, so there may be fewer complaints about the selection. It’ll be important to make sure that the other games, not up for voting, continue to round out the selection in a balanced way. I’m completely uninterested in ‘triple-A’ annualized shooters like some of these dim bulbs seem to think they want–totally open to the small-publisher focus PSN + has had on PS4 so far.

  • *looks at blog.share*
ooo yay can’t wait till we get to vote on stuff

  • Not For Vita? Woww

  • Great concept but I would ask that Sony do this for the Vita IGC lineup also, not just PS4. The questionable selections each month are usually worse for the Vita than they are for the PS4.

    • If they do it for the Vita…they would need to do it for PS3 too. And that’s a lot of money, dude.

      So…NO. =P

    • They should do it for PS Vita and PS4 as well! The PS3 in particular has a large library of non-indie games to choose from.

In the case of the PS Vita I have to admit that some of the IGC picks seem like Sony chose the cheapest indie out there and used the remaining budget for the Vita picks on the PS4 picks.

  • 1 high class game and 1 digital/indie for each type of console (ps4,ps3,psvita)

    • I like this idea!

In fact the 2 PS Vita, 2 PS3 and 2 PS4 distribution is how the IGC was supposed to be, instead of trying to sell us the IGC as 4 PS4 games with 1 PS3 & 1 PS Vita game.

  • PS4 –
    Shadow of Mordor
    OR
    Sniper Elite 3

    PS3-
    Shovel Knight
    Broken Age (cross platforms)

    PSVITA-
Sword Art online Hollow Fragment (please)(cross platform)

  • This is a horrible idea. No matter what the outcomes of the votes are, there will be salt regardless.

  • Nice idea but I see its only for ps4 what about ps3 and vita. Also I noticed it said choose from a list of games it would be better if us the community the gamers most wanted games get added. I’m cared the games that are chosen to be added will be low budget games. Hopefully that’s not the case.

    • They are not going to give you AAA games, man. Those cost A LOT.

So of course it will be low-budget, indie stuff.

But hey, you can choose now! =P

    • They need to rectify and make the voting for PS3 and Ps Vita as well!

  • This Vote to Play essentially amounts to a Sales Democracy for the PS+ free peoples of the PlayStation Nation

  • A paid subscription =/= free games so we’re gonna complain about paying for “free” things that suck but this is a good idea as now we’ll know who to blame whenever the lineup is awful.

  • I vote for Call Of Duty: Ghosts.

  • Here is your problem… I will never vote for a game I already own, and I own pretty much every good game. So when that awesome game comes up and is voted down…. it was me.

    • Lol, well played sir. And that’s absolutely going to happen more than once.
These votes will pit the early buyers against the poor people that wait for free games.
I don’t buy many games these days, so I’ll be voting against you most of the time.
      It’s going to be interesting…

  • Killzone Shadow Fall

  • I absolutely love PS+! I cannot tell you how many free games I have played and loved that I probably wouldn’t have bought. It’s introduced me to some new genres that I haven’t had the pleasure. The discounts have been such a bonus for me. With that said, I am intrigued by this idea. I will most definitely contribute my vote. Looking forward to learning more. Great job Sony! Always coming up with new and interesting ideas.

    • I completely agree.

Given you seem to enjoy some of the more niche titles like me, are you worried that most folks will just vote for the obvious/AAA title and we’ll miss out on some really unique titles as a result?

  • It will be great to see a playstation home remastered and free in playstation plus!

    • Free plays toon plus? Lol no. $50 a year is seriously nothing. You can just say 2 dollars a paycheck and but a pone year playstation plus with that. It’s seriously not expensive but I do agree on having playstation home remastered, it was a fun social place to get to know other people around the world.

  • Mortal Kombat

  • Great feature. I remember seeing this idea on blog.share. Discounts for the runner up is a nice touch. I hope that becomes permanent.

  • Grrrreat Idea, but i hope that there will be worthy games to chose from. Otherwise its meaningless, when we have to chose games that are similar, uninteresting, and unpopular that doesn’t worth the attention. No offense to game makers, but not every project is successful. But it might reduce the number of complaints. Love the idea and hope to hear more about it pretty soon.

  • Superhyped about this! But i wonder, Does members that is not subscribed to PS+ also get to vote? I feel that this should be locked to PS+ owners only.

The reason for this is that we are the ones that will get the game. Therefor our votes should be the only ones that counts.

    Thanks for this great feature!

  • this only means something if the choices we are given to vote on are games that people actually want. choosing between 3 games that nobody wants still ends up with a game that nobody wants.

give very clear guidelines for what makes a game eligible for ps+, and have a nominating program rather than just saying “here’s 3 indie games you probably don’t want, go ahead and pick one because we listen to what the fans want!”

  • Awesome feature. Why are people saying they vote for ….. this game if Sony is going to be the one picking out 3 to vote from and not your choice lol. It’s going to be better if every month they choose different genre games and not just shooters so that other games can win also.

  • It’s a nice idea but I wish you’d have done it for the Vita and PS3 too. I know, money and stuff. But it would have been nice. There would’ve also been tons more selection available.

“such as the Instant Game Collection,”

Been a while since you mentioned that thing that you got rid of that almost everybody who bought PS Plus enjoyed a lot. We get mores games now sure, but some months I’m sure people would’ve rather just bought PS Plus for Uncharted 3’s multiplayer or XCOM. It was a good idea even if it was hard to maintain (it seemed).

    • Also, I hope you’ll have something in place to stop PS3/Vita owners from voting as that may cause some undue problems in the results I’m guessing.

    • You make a good point. I only own a PS3 and Vita right now, haven’t been persuaded to pick up a PS4. Still waiting for more exclusives, a bigger hard drive and a price drop.
In the mean time, I’m just stocking all the free PS4 games for future use.
So I’ll be voting for all the games I want in the future, while never having purchased any retail PS4 games.
That could create conflict with existing PS4 owners.

  • GTA V

  • I would like shovel knight and rogue legacy for next month PS Plus lineup

  • I would love minecraft to be in the August lineup! It would be so much fun!

    • I already own Minecraft for PS4/3/Vita, but I gotta say, that sounds like a fantastic idea if Sony can pull it off.

    • Do you really think they’re going to give that away for free? Especially since it’s now owned by Microsoft?

  • Give us this on the PS3 too. There’s tons of games on the PS3 you never included with PS Plus and would be great.

  • I doubt they would do brand new games. So something older that was closer to ps4 drop? I would like to try Infamous 2nd son. But if they did have new ones then there would be a big choice to choose from.

  • And how about some good games for ps3?! We are tired of the indie stuff ervery month. Bring back the good games to ps3! There is a lot of titles who never come out in PLUS!

    • You’re right! The PS3 has a large library to pick from and the voting should include such optiosn as well.

  • OUTLAST OR LITTLEBIGPLANET

  • I think this is a cool idea, but I hope there’s some balance. Feedback is important, but you also don’t want to wind up with constantly getting mainstream winners – it’s nice to be forced to try a title you wouldn’t have otherwise expected or maybe downloaded. Rocket League was something I didn’t know if I’d like, and after trying it I am still LOVING the game.

If there can be a balance, this will be nice!

  • Plastation now should be totally free for ps+ members and/or should be able to play all are old PS3/ps2 games etc etc and except for new release games

  • Dear Gamers….please vote for one of the following IGC titles:

    1. Hermit Crab platformer fun!
    2. Ducky the Duck Castle Defense
    3. Shoot the Rabbit!
    4. Jimmy the Snake Castle Defense
    5. Upside Down Mongoose Wars!

Ok, ok….tongue firmly in cheek. It’ll probably be all Indies to choose from, but hey….there are good Indies and lousy ones.

What gets to me is when we’re presented with these 8-bit graphics games or PS4 games that look like they belong in the Apple IIe era. Too many of the PS4 titles could run just fine on a PS3. They don’t show off the unique power of the PS4. That’s why PS4 owners often feel cheated by the IGC. The quality just isn’t there.

Having said that, my little Vita feels the most cheated. Seriously, still no Danganronpa for IGC??? It came out for the Vita nearly 2 years ago! Also, with the recent release of the new Deception game, it would have been a no-brainer to bring the first title to IGC….it’s been out awhile also. Sony, you have to think of these tie-ins….it’s promotion for you too!

    • Certainly! There are still many jewels from the PS Vita library that haven’t made it into the IGC so far.

  • People really believe that? They can always ‘edit’ comments or just not listen in the first place – playstation now is a’so taking a piss of people. Look at me for example – i’m a typical sheep; i had FFX on PS2, i preordered digital PS3 remasterisation and they didn’t offer to ‘transfer’ the purchase to PS4. Also, i don’ understand why PS4 can stream PS3 games but can’t download and play them since we already bought them…..

There are only two games for now that I’ll preorder (on a disc) and everything else will be second hand. I spent too much on Digital copies on PS3 and can do @#$£ now

  • Bloodborne or Dark Souls II

  • If the selection’s good, I’m all for it.

  • I have to agree with @Racoons. My PS3 died about a year ago and I have a long list of Plus titles that I have no access to, even if I was a paying member of PS Now. It’s really bad not to reward your loyal customers.

At some point, Sony needs to recognize this flaw with PS Now and give access to those who’ve already purchased the title or gotten them from PS Plus. Seems like it would be fairly easy to integrate.

  • This is a horrible, braindead idea.

So instead of doing your jobs and putting games people would want into the Rental collection it’s now up to a vote of the ‘fans’….

So now every month I’ll be getting a game decided by people with completely different taste than me.

Way to screw over anyone who enjoys games that are niche/not CoD types.

  • This is a great idea the perfect ode to gaming in America

    LONG LIVE DEMOCRACY!!!

  • This is very cool! I’d love to see the runner-ups getting a discount always being the case. Incidentally, it’d be awesome to be able to buy the “free” game at a discount as well, so that people who really like it and want to support the dev even more can do so, AND outright own the title.

  • Interesting improvement. If it is any good, will depend on the offered titles in the selection though. If it is still all about indies, as so far, this idea wouldn’t really improve a lot.

And I wonder, is this SCEA exclusive or will SCEE run the same program? And would the votes of both be combined or separated?

  • I vote StarHawk Multiplayer. The game is incredible, and if it was free it would add a lot of community to the game.

  • **Fingers crossed expecting to get what I want**

    This will be great!

  • Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag or Tom Clansy’s: Splinter Cell Blacklist please.

  • killzone shadow fall free complete!!!

  • Great idea, looking forward to it. Ignore all the comments about too many of the free games being indie. I’ve discovered a ton of great games via Plus that I probably never would have tried otherwise. AAA games are pretty boring the last couple years with the exception of a very select few.

  • At least now it’s DEFINITELY better than Games for Gold. I mean, I believed that before, but others didn’t…Now they do…

  • Does this mean we’re voting on a 3rd game to add to the lineup? If so, this is a great idea. If you’re saying we’re voting on 1 of the 2 games that get pushed monthly, then this is a terrible idea.

  • Please add Grand Theft Auto IV in PS now
