  • Uou all fail for voting Grow Home as the winner. Enjoy that $8 garbage. Now I have to buy the actual good offering with multiplayer Zombie Vikings.

  • Can I just pay less for ps plus and not get anymore of these “free” games? I don’t need them taking up space. No thank you.

    • That could be a REALLY GOOD thing… =)

      …but since it’s Sony…I don’t think they will do it. =(

    • I would gladly pay less for the PSN service without these trash games. At this point I’m letting my Plus account lapse. Forget this, a less expensive PSN only service and I’ll subscribe.

  • Awesome list, i’m excited mostly for STFU on Vita/PS4 and La Mulana on Vita.

    Xeodrifter looks perfect on Vita.

    Teslagrad looks good.

Twisted Metal PS3 will be fun.

Screw grow home, i’m buying Zombie Vikings.

  • When you think things can not get worse…….

    BAAAADDDDDD Month…..
If I want to play indies, I will play in my computer.
Ok, there people who love, but its not my case.

  • Disappointing

  • Ugh, more retro pixelated 2d metroidvania games? I like the genre, but right now I’m kind of getting a little exhausted from them all. Maybe a couple other games that aren’t all indie metroid pixel vanias?

  • these RENTALS get worse every month… as the guy says above can and probably will get these cheaper on steam eventually.

  • This would be something I would be interested in. I buy the games that I really want to play and usually never have enough time for them. Just keep the igc and let me pay half price to play online and I would be down with that.

  • I have a feeling people only voted for Grow Home because its actually 3D, and the closest we’ll get to a triple A game. Considering if we got the other 2 games that would be FIVE 2D games, 4 of which with the same genre… We can’t win them all. I really don’t mind indie games. But you cannot release 4 of them at once and expect people to just eat it. Most people look at Indies like side dishes. And while there are mind blowing my amazing Indies like Sound Shapes, Fez, Scott Pilgrim and Journey, you have to realize that it creates an effect of distaste when its ALL that you see. Its like presenting a meal with only mozzerela sticks, bread sticks, and fries. Yeah they all may be good and be everyone’s favorite side dish here and there, but when you don’t have the juicy steak you just lose interest. It’s good you have Indies devs illing to support the service and promote their games at the same time, but you need a higher up title, ESPECIALLY for the PS4, to pop up at least every other month to balance it out. And specifically for this month, it was like all the side dishes were just a bunch of bread sticks with no varying genres.

  • Thank goodness my PS+ finally lapsed because having it is just a reminder that I’m paying $50 a year to be able to automatically update when the only games you ever get is this garbage.

  • After a couple of months of free games that didn’t agree with me. I am glad to see some very fun games make it to ps+. Hopefully you guys will keep at it <3

  • So will Xeodrifter and Super Time Force be available for Vita on September 1st? It seems like a lot of games (Axiom Verge, Bastion, Teslagrad) were listed as being for Vita as well but still haven’t been ported yet.

  • Ps4 is nothing but i die games in just 3 hours i will enjoy gears of war ultimate edition, madden 16 full trial one, and dishonored edition and a few others while ps4 users get to play crappy indie gamez.i wouldn’t buy these games pc lmao.

  • I have never, ever posted that a month was bad but this timeI have to. This month is bad, and you PlayStation should feel bad.. :(
Not taking in consideration Twisted Metal because I already have it tho.

  • SMH zombie Vikings didn’t win. Not only does it look like a much better castle crasher esc game it was also the only option offered that has multiplayer. Furthermore Grow Home is a 7$ game while zombie Vikings will probably be a $20 purchase with much more replay value.

    • I agree 100%. Unfortunately, majority of the people could not see the multiplayer & replayability potential and preferred to go for a more popular title. If Zombie Vikings had won, their success would be similar.to Rocket League. I wish Sony had given all 3 titles free and skipped this voting nonsense.

  • Not the game I wanted to win, but one vote can only do so much I suppose. I’ll give Grow Home a chance but from what I’ve seen I fear it will just be another game that I just add to my library.

  • Please… no more pixel games….

  • Another great month! I was stoked to play Super Time Force Ultra and we´ll get in free on+!!! Awesome stuff.

  • All 3 games looked great. I voted for Zombie Viking but will happily take Grow Home.

  • I wish they would offer a cheaper option for PS Plus where you just pay for the access to online gaming and not for the monthly PS Plus “free” games. These games aren’t not actually free. I don’t know about you but I played for PS Plus. I don’t play any of the PS Plus games. They all suck and I don’t have time to waste on stupid stuff like that. If you like that stuff I have nothing against you, but I just think all the games listed here are stupid looking. That’s just how I feel and it won’t change.

  • This is by far the most disappointing month I have ever had with PS Plus. I don’t know if I could have purposefully picked 4 games for ps3 and vita that I would be least likely to play that could be worse than this line up. Three 2D platformers!? I am more likely to grab Simon’s Quest out of storage than play any of these. Who decided to pick 3 2D platformers?!

  • There is only thing PS Plus taught me. Don’t buy indie games. Ever.
It will have it’s way shoveled to you eventually.

Looks not bad. We will see next week.

  • What a load of crap. PS4 is a next gen machine being played by x spectrum voters.

  • Nice!!!!

  • ALL JUNK! Thanks for making the PS4 pay to play online while never upgrading PSN and offering pathetic PS+ games. Your brand is getting damaged and I hope Microsoft craps on you! #BetterPSN Sincerely from the owner of PS1, PS2, PS3, PS4, PS Vita, and PS TV.

  • If i wanted to play this kind of games, i would buy Nitendo 64, not ps4.

  • too many platform games!

  • Sure wish I could play Twisted Metal on PS4…hint hint. Make PS4 backwards compatible and PS2 classics playable on the Vita

  • Wow. Next gen console and yet more 16 bit looking games. Nothing of interest again. The only things worthy in recent time have been Rocket League and Styx.

  • I am happy to see grow home since I voted for it and it won it looks like a fun game and I cant wait to play it Tuesday. Twisted Metal is also a game I have been wanting to play forever glad I finally get it play it now. As for the other games I don’t see any that really appeal in my eyes some of them look like games that you would play on Nintendo. At least I know I will be downloading 2 games this month hopefully they will be fun and keep me busy until next month comes around.

  • my PS+ sub expired in mid-July. I debated for weeks whether I should reinstate my PS+ account. I decided I would. The August line up was great.

I feel like Sony took my money, took a dump on me, and then wiped with my cash. and I don’t have a lot of money. PS+ is an economical way for me to get to try out some games.

this is the single worst lineup I’ve seen yet. how many (not quoted from here, but cliches in quotes) “charming indie platformers” and “charming indie games with retro graphics” can there be in one month? come on, 3 of these game have what morons call “8-bit graphics” which really translates as “indie team that was too lazy and cheap to pay for a real graphic engine”

at least I have some of the older PS+ games to play that WERE Good.

because it’s clear that Sony stopped listening a long time ago. and it’s sad that I’ll get labelled a “troll” for expressing how I feel.

    • I agree with you. I’m paying to play with my friends, which is why I never got XBox. I pay for my Internet, why do I have to pay for online play? It’s not even their servers. The games USED to be worth it, now they are just kicking me in the crotch.

  • looks like another disappointing month. why do i subscribe to ps+ again? the service is becoming a bad joke.

  • and it looks like ms announced that xbox one owners are getting tomb raider definitive edition this month. they got a much better lineup this month than ps4 owners did.

  • Hey Ryan, video has PS4 only for STFU. Game is still being released on vita right?
Excellent lineup overall, have been looking forward to grow home after hearing about the successful PC launch, glad it won. Seriously people, this has been the best we’ve seen in a long time.

I can already see the comments we’ll get when SMB (look it up) releases later this year, haters will hate I guess.

  • Really Sony? Did you see free games for Xbox360 and XboxOne? This month is joke for the players.

  • XBOX ONE GAMES WITH GOLD SEPTEMBER with
    TOMB RAIDER DEFINITIVE EDITION! WTF?
Rayman Legends, Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, Child of Light, Metal Gear Solid Groudn Zeroes

why cant we get TRIPLE AAA titles like them on PS4?

    ENOUGH INDIEGAMES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • to be fair, ps+ had metal gear solid ground zeroes before the x1 got it.

that being said, the premise of your post is correct. the quality of igc over the last year is reaching the point that it’s getting insulting how low quality the offerings are.

x1 got a retail game 2 out of the last 3 months, ps4 hasn’t gotten a retail game since injustice last december.

  • This “vote” thing is not a good idea. Most people have not played all 3 games so are voting uninformed…..Next, you end up in a position where a majority of people lose the vote. That is a poor situation in which to put your players and customers.

It was a nice thought, but after one month, its got major problems.

  • Damn Gold has Tomb raider D Exition and Crysis 3, Ps4 has a crapload of Crappy Indy games Again… Ive always been a Sony guy but damn they’ve been dropping the ball big time, first EA access then the crap that is ps Now then Indies galore on plus and no BC or MP3 support WTF

  • These people that are excited over the indies are either plants or they just need to buy a nes and leave us alone

    • “These people that are excited over the indies are either plants or they just need to buy a nes and leave us alone”

      LOL

  • I’ve always been a Sony fanboy but now I’m seeing that Xbox does what Playstation won’t, not can’t just won’t. Some executive is Japan says F them they spend he money anyway. Thanks Sony

  • Sure, I’d love some AAA titles, but as a gamer I’m willing to give every game a chance.

Also Xeodrifter and STFU look absolutely amazing, but I love the old Metroid is games, so my opinion is really biased.

  • I just saw the like and dislike counter in the youtube videos… both videos in /user/PlayStation and /user/sonyplaystation.
Maybe these indies are a little bit more better than the ones in the past 5 months… But indies are indies. People have spoken. They don’t want this anymore, I’m looking forward to have at least one AAA game on Vita this october. Dreaming is free.

  • Eh. Not as bad as it has been but still not an exciting month. I miss when playstation plus would give out something other than just indie titles. Don’t get me wrong I like a good indie game now and then but I don’t really need another generic 8 bit platformer. I still have a backlog of them that I got on plus and never played. I’d love to see the vita get persona 4, the mgs hd collection, akiba’s trip, ragnarok odessy ace, jak and daxter hd collection, sly cooper hd collection, hell even spyhunter would be a nice change of pace.

  • Great lineup, all games I’ve been interested in or was interested in once they launched.

  • Played Super Time Force on XB1. Very fun. The jewel here, though, is Teslagrad. Seriously. Play it.

  • I’ve never once complained about getting indies for Plus free games here or in other gaming forums. In fact, I’ve really enjoyed the opportunity to play some great games I probably would’ve never purchased and have often defended the Plus free selections in the past. But September is truly the worst month in PS Plus history since the IGC was introduced in June 2012.

Though I try not to complain about games simply because they aren’t my taste, giving us 4 retro-style platformers in the same month makes for a terrible, terrible selection. Other than Grow Home and Twisted Metal, I won’t even bother putting September’s games in my download queue on the off-chance I would ever feel a need to play them.

Quite simply, I purchased a PS3 and then a PS4 (and a Vita in between) to play games that look like they were made in the 21st century. I understand some folks have this nostalgia thing for games made 20 years ago, and we’ve gotten plenty of other blocky 2-D pixelated games over the past year and half. But seriously, four retro 2-D platformers in the same month? I just don’t get the decision-making process that would even make that seem like a good idea.

  • I struggled between voting for Grow Home and Zombie Vikings. I’m happy I got one of them! Stick It To The Man is one of my favorites, so I’ll probably pick up Zombie Vikings, with the discount.

All of these games are one’s I haven’t played. I can’t wait to see what surprises me. Rogue Legacy has been sitting, untouched, in my plus pile for awhile, until last night. My mind is blown by how awesome it is. Keep up the great work guys!

  • Fantastic list! I’ll never have time to play all of these games!

  • PS+ has really sucked lately. I dropped my sub a few months back since there are barely any interesting offerings anymore, and I dont play anything online on PS4 to need it

  • Where are all of the Sony shills? Where are all the defenders of the Indie Game Collection?

So many times on this blog, the vast majority has spoken out against more shovelware being foisted off on us. This month, the response is overwhelmingly negative.

It isn’t about whether or not people can afford to buy any game they want. I could drop a grand on video games any day of the week without it hurting my finances. The fact that I don’t speaks to the quality of games currently available, not my wherewithal to buy what I want without counting on someone giving it to me for free.

A lot of you indie defenders like to insult those of us sick and tired of this garbage by presuming that we’re broke or entitled. Not even close. Sony isn’t giving us free gifts, here. We paid what they asked. In return, we get Android ports and games that will definitely be part of a Humble Bundle within the next year.

    No thanks.

    • Fake.

You claim to be financially loaded, yet, somehow, you’re irate with where your measly $50 is going? Strange. Financially well-off people wouldn’t care, and everyone knows it. Don’t act like it’s about principle… you clearly ain’t no hero.

Your first mistake is you assume/imply that it’s “bad” to have indie games in the first place.

You imply that ALL indies are automatically crap, while all “AAA” games are great. Strike two.

You call games “garbage” that you haven’t even played. Strike three.

One is never obligated to stick with a company they’re unhappy with in a competitive market, and you know it, so your virulence is obviously disingenuous. Strike… oh, wait, you’re out of strikes.

    • primerolncognito yeah im also pretty well off financially….. if i wanted to i could also shell out tons of money…. but dont get us wrong…. we arent a charity….. we spent the 50$ so we expect to get something out of it…. just cuz we have money doesnt automatically mean we are irresponsible…. SOME of us had to actually WORK to get to our level….. we worked hard and now we are financially stable, but that doesnt mean weve forgotten the value of the dollar…. now as for indie games, i dont mind them….. but at least give us SOME vairety…. this month weve gotten ourselves not one, not two but FIVE indie platformers…. t=although to be fair u guys voted one of them on the list so alright….. that still means that sony selected FOUR indie platformer games knowing fully well that another fifth game would be coming as well…. im not asking for a AAA title but how about a ps1 or ps2 classic for the ps4…. or maybe an old school genesis/snes title…. i understand why they dont want to give us AAA title games…. but that doesnt mean indie games are the only way to go…… ure giving us twisted metal, but only for the ps3….. why not the ps4???
