Gravity Rush Remastered Coming to PS4 on February 9th, 2016

Good evening, PlayStation fans, I’m thrilled to bring you some breaking news from Japan Studio via Tokyo Game Show 2015!

Gravity Rush Remastered, an upgraded version of the highly acclaimed PlayStation Vita hit, is officially making its way to PS4 on February 9th, 2016.

Brought to life on the big screen by the team at Bluepoint Games, you’ll be able to join heroine Kat and her sidekick Dusty as they soar through the enchanting city of Hekseville like never before. All three original DLC packs released alongside Gravity Rush’s initial release — the Spy Pack, The Maid Pack, and The Military Pack — will also be included within the game.

Whether you are brand new to the franchise, or want to relive the experience again, Gravity Rush Remastered is the perfect opportunity to experience the magical story of Kat as she seeks answers to her mysterious gravity-defying powers and forgotten past, now in full HD 1080p glory with ample graphical and performance improvements.

  • A very predicable move.Even though I am crestfallen by the decision to leave the PS Vita behind. I did love Gravity Rush and hope the PS4 version can capture the action. Will thee be more voice acting? How will the controls work.? Gravity Rush/Daze has unique controls.

    • Hi Jackal888!

Thanks for your understanding and kind words!

You’ll be able to control Kat with traditional analog stick controls as well as the with the motion sensor within the DualShock 4 – it’s amazing either way!

The amount of voice acting will be the same as with the original release.

Please keep your comments and questions coming, and thank you!

  • I have to say I’m very disappointed that there are no plans for the Vita at this time, but I’m happy that a whole other demographic will get to enjoy one of the best handheld games out there.
Also Nick, while I’m sure you can’t give a direct and clear answer due to hawk-eyed corporate overlords, you still mention that you’re listening and passing the comments down to other Sony officials. If demand is high enough(and from this comments section it looks like it is), will the notion of porting GR2 to vita at least be brought up?

    • Thanks for your understanding CosmoClock!

As you’ve pointed out, can’t really comment about that, but I’ll be sure to put any updates about the title up here on the blog, so please stay tuned!

And thank you for your comment – we’re always listening to your feedback!

    • “will the notion of porting GR2 to vita at least be brought up”

Even if the team working on the game wanted to… I doubt the PS Vita would be able to handle it, just on a technical without making sacifices to the studio’s vision for the sequel. Gravity Rush 2 looks way more living than what they could ever achive on Vita. Trust me on that! Being exclusively on PS4 could improve your overall experience with the game and IP.

      :D

  • Really excited for the remaster and the sequel, and I’m actually REALLY happy that Gravity Rush 2 is built only for PS4 to harness all of its power and potential instead of having it be another cross-platform game limited by Vita hardware.

    • Thanks for the kind words vspectra06! I’ll be sure to pass them along!

Look forward to seeing you in February for the release of Gravity Rush Remastered!

    • I am with you vspec. I am not surprised with all of the Vita owners. But being a Vita and PS4 owner myself, I would definitely rather play GR2 on the PS4!

  • As a Vita owner, all I can say is…can’t wait to play this on PS4!

Seriously, what’s the big deal? GR’s not really a portable, pick up & play type game like LBPVita, Soul Sacrifice or KZMerc, and nothing about its gameplay can’t be done better on PS4. Should’ve been a console game from the start. Still, GR’s fantastic & deserves a bigger audience than us niche Vita owners, especially if we want to see more than just one sequel.

Great job Sony. Now where’s my Patapon Vita?!

    • I have a PS3, a Vita and a PS4. I don’t want this game on Vita just like I don’t want it on PS3…. old hardware that will only limit the developers.

    • Thanks IceColdKilla!

I can’t wait for you to get your hands on it as well! I know February’s still a little far away, but I appreciate your patience and enthusiasm!

Keep your comments and questions coming, and thank you very much!

  • Immense disappointment wells in me, both with regards to stealing Vita’s exclusive, and not bringing the sequel to the platform. Things like this make me second guess all future purchases, and I’m severely disappointed in the path that has been taken.

  • If the Figma isn’t available anywhere else, I’d absolutely love to see the collector’s edition make its way over to North America.

    • Hi jala12 –

I can’t comment on how we’re releasing the game for SCEA, but I definitely hear you!

Please make sure to keep voicing what you’d like to see – we love getting your feedback!

  • Disappointing that Gravity Rush/Daze 2 was announced for the 4 but not for the Vita. I guess in Sony’s eyes Vita doesn’t mean life but death.

Out of all the Consoles I own and to Include my PC, MY PlayStation Vita is THE most played out of all of them. It’s heartbreaking for me to see its best featured games that actually USE ALL OF ITS FUNCTIONS, die unloved by the people who made it in the first place.

Enough of my sad rant through, good luck to those who haven’t played it yet or don’t own a Vita, its a very endearing and engrossing game. I hope you Fall in love with it the way I did.~

  • I am LOVING this coming to PS4! I played it on the Vita and loved but I really enjoy playing games on the big screen! I will get the remaster in February and I just can’t wait for GR2!

  • I’m super excited to find the time traveler and his wife again. I used a guide the first time but now that I can see everything in such mind blowing detail I think I’ll take the scenic route, exploration is it’s own reward when a game looks that good.

Also excited for that Pleasure District theme. I bought the sound track on CD just to hear that sweet jazz tune. Is there any better song to fall to?

I might as well fangirl over that story to. It straddles surrealism and fantasy while sprinkling in sci-fi for an ultimately new flavor. It has mystery and intrigue while remaining light and inventive.

I love that Bluepoint is working on it too. The trailer alone showcased some down right crazy graphical beauty, I legitimately thought the game couldn’t look much better and now every screenshot could be framed and hung in a museum.

I just love this game. I have no complaints.

  • The first half of Gravity Rush was incredible, but then the hobo with the magic trenchcoat shows up and the game gets weird. Real weird. Lots of… uh.. phallic enemies and environments. But all in all I still liked it a lot.

I’m really curious about the cntrols though. One of the things I disliked the most was being forced to use the touchpad and gyros to control the Gravity Slide. Nick, please tell me we have the option of using the analog stick this time!?!?!

  • Can you say anything about Kat’s touch controls? Her swipe dodge never felt as fluid as I hoped but the gravity slide was solid. It’d be nice to see these both get straightened out oh so slightly.

  • I’m still praying they patch the vita version to allow us to shut off motion controls.

  • The only answer Sony has to complaints that it completely ignores its own product (the Playstation Vita) is that they hope people will enjoy the game on Playstation 4.

Luckily, Sony is giving Playstation 4 consoles for free to every person that has bought a Playstation Vita, so there is no reason for Vita owners to complain that Sony is not even giving the minimum support expected for such a product since two years after launch. It is totally not the situation of the company screwing up customers that depend on new content to be released on the product they have purchased, and then telling them to buy an even more expensive product that is not even in the same class as the other one if they want to keep playing. That is why Sony is the best.

  • Hey Nick, thank you for bringing this game to PS4. I wonder if you can say how the flying feels with the dual shock now instead of the whole screen? I really hope this does well enough for the sequel to come here. Most people seem not to comment on the amazing cliffhanger the original ended with. Such a great story. I hope we get the new world.

  • Sweet i can’t wait to replay the same Game again but on PS4 now. >..<

  • I’d love to hear what the technical limitations of the PS4 that are holding stereo 3D back for this title. Several PS3 ports have 60fps stereo 3D, and Bluepoint has done stereo 3D in their PS2->PS3 ports in the past…

  • Hello, big fan of game. Reason I bought a Vita.

Can you please comment if you have plans to put this game on disc?

  • Ok… I didn’t see that one coming.

I was looking forward for this game on the original Vita, but now you gave me more reasons to buya PS4 along with the sequel.

Given the reputation of Bluepoint, who put good work on every port I remember, I expect nothing but quality. God of War, Ico, Shadow of the Colossus, MGS HD Collection, even Okami… Their ports are superb!

Now that it’s coming to PS4., I hope you get the best for us to enjoy this hidden gem!

    Keep the good work, guys!

  • If you really listened you wouldn’t have this sort of comment’s on PlayStation blog.
By making Gravity Rush 2 a PS4 exclusive you just alienated some of PlayStation’s most loyal fanbase (and the ones that bought the original game). This is a niche game that can’t see selling gangbusters even on PS4 soI wonder if this gamble is really worth it for SCE…

  • So this might sound really sad and pathetic, and I’m sure I’ll get made fun of, but here goes.

I bought a Playstation Vita on launch day, along with a 32gb memory card and four games, Uncharted, Katamary, UMvC3, and WipEout. I love this handheld system. To date, I have dumped the majority of my gaming time into the Vita, and have tried my best to support every new release and every title that interests me. As of right now, five months from the Vita’s fourth birthday in NA, I own two Vita’s, (the original and slim) a PSTV, and a 64gb memory card in the slim which is now my main Vita system. I have a Vita library of over 130 games, some of which I haven’t even played yet, and bought simply to support the developer and the platform. But out of all the Vita games I own, and all the Vita games I have played or will ever play…Gravity Rush is the most special to me. When i first saw it on the floor at E3, I played it the entire first day of the show, and then the second, and then almost all of the third. I was completely mesmerized at its creativity and scale, with such a massive world in the palm of my hands. It was all I could do to go play anything else at the show. Gravity Rush was my first platinum ever.

    • It was awesome to know that I had done all there was to do and seen all there was to see, but as more and more bad news began to trickle out about how the Vita was selling poorly and how Sony had abandoned it, I refused to believe it. Refused to think that the most amazing handheld system I had ever used could not be seen as something so profound by others, but thanks to terribly overpriced memory cards, and potential customers not wanting to shell out that extra cash, along with the multitude of news hovering over the system like a black cloud, it makes sense that potential new owners would shy away.

    • But I still kept believing in Sony, knowing that if they could make the PS3 one of the most awesome and popular consoles of last generation, they could and surely would save the Vita, and bring it back to the hands of gamers everywhere. But they didn’t. Sony just seemed to let one thing go after another, pushing out a few titles here and there that were nothing more than sorry excuses of console ports, and I bought them all, still trying to do my part to somehow drive the handheld back from the brink. But even with all of the terrible news and lack of AAA support, there was always one thing that stuck out in my mind, and that was Gravity Rush. It was my last hope for the Vita, the one thing that I thought would really make it shine again, and really bring its potential back out, like Sony had really pushed in the beginning. And when that teaser trailer for Gravity Rush 2 released, I fired Gravity Rush up and played for hours. But here we are now, with my hopes dashed.

    • I’m sorry for cutting into this thread sounding like some really weird, lame person who just can’t face facts, but even after all this, I still believe in Vita. I believe in the third party developers who make games for Vita, in the indie developers who make crossbuy and crossplay games for Vita, and the people who still play Danganronpa or Soul Sacrifice or Killzone Mercenary or Freedom Wars or Tearaway or any of the other fantastic games for the system that people who don’t own Vita’s just don’t seem to notice.

    • At Playstation Experience last year, I asked a panel of five or so big name PS devs if they still believed in the Vita, and Cory Barlog, (I hope I’m remembering his name correctly) pulled a white Vita from his pocket. This portion of the Inside the Dev Studio panel video has been cut, and as far as I know, no longer exists on the internet. But seeing him pull the Vita from his pocket, and having people in the crowd clap and cheer for it, its what makes you realize that Sony is wrong. The Vita is not yet a “legacy console”, not as long as the players who own it and care about it continue to support it.

Thanks again for being so awesome Nick, you’re a really great guy for answering the vast majority of these posts, and making us feel like someone is really listening. Hopefully someone else from Sony reads these posts and lets other higher ups know that there is still a market for the Vita, and it can still grow.

  • Thank you for bringing this stateside so quickly. Yakuza should come next. Please bring the sequel and its awesome collectors edition. I don’t buy many collectors stuff but that figure is to die for awesome. I loved this game I really hope we get answers to the jaw dropping cliffhanger in the sequel. I hope the people bashing for this being ps4 only understand it was short changed I can’t wait for it potential to be released on ps4(next gen)

  • Glad a remastered version is coming out on PS4 for those that didn’t get to play the original game on Vita. I would definitely consider double dipping if there was a collector’s edition with a Kat figurine. However, I am much more excited about the sequel and would buy it Day 1 (or pre-order) if it’s released in the States.

  • Not going to lie, disappointed…REALLY disappointed. Planned to buy day one (if it came out on Vita) same as I did with Freedom Wars & Soul Sacrifice. Can’t buy at all now since it’s only on PS4. I at this point have no plans to pick up a PS4 even though I’m a pretty big Sony fan. Don’t quite get why this seemed like a good idea, since it leaves the original supporters in the dust.
I don’t think it’d be unreasonable to have made the Vita version then a Definitive edition for PS4. Most analytics I’ve seen show Vita while a lower selling system having a strong buy rate, one comparable to the PS3 / PS4.

  • Gravity Rush is the reason I bought a Vita. I actually love the idea of having the game remastered for PS4. Please bring the collector’s edition to the US. I’m willing to import it from Japan but I would rather have the US version.

  • Why not to keep alive the Psvita I dont thing this game was necessary to the launch on Ps4. You need to make new Games for both consoles

  • Hi Nick, I know you’re probably done reading comments at this point, but I’d still like to raise this point on the off chance somebody is still listening:

You know, thinking on it… making GR Remastered a cross-buy title would be a GREAT way to show that actually care and appreciate those of us who bought a Vita & Gravity Rush in the first place. Hell I bought it twice (once physical but it was a NA copy and I’m in EU, so I couldn’t use the DLC and then I bought it digitally and got the DLC too.) and I’d happily buy the new Remaster. But it would be fantastic if you could throw some love to the Vita community who loved this game so much in the first place.

    Thanks.

  • Quote for you Vita lovers,

“By mid-2014, Sony made several comments regarding changing the direction of the PlayStation Vita. Yoshida stated that Sony would be releasing fewer first party games for the platform.[61] Sony Computer Entertainment’s Product Planning & Platform Software Innovation Director Don Mesa stated that the “economics simply don’t work with the traditional process”.[62] In July 2014, Yoshida stated that the company would focus on it less as a dedicated handheld video game console, and more on its combination of uses, stating “it’s not about individual Vita games any more. It’s more about how Vita can have multiple uses – with PS4 Remote Play, PS3 games with PS Now, and the dedicated games. The whole ecosystem with PS4 at the centre, the Vita’s a part of that.”

So with that out of the way, you might be able to remote play Gravity Rush.

  • Great to hear this is finally coming, PS4 is gonna have an unstoppable 2016. Please bring the CE to the USA, don’t leave us hangin.

  • Can you confirm that the US is getting a physical release of Remastered? I absolutely need a physical copy of this, Gravity Rush is one of the most memorable games I have played and easily one of my all time favorites. If we could get the CE, that would be fantastic too, but that’s importable if we don’t get it.

    • Hey Snake0457,

      Thank you for the comment!

I really can’t confirm that at this point, but I’m very interested in hearing your opinions.

Please continue to be very vocal and let us know what you’re looking forward to with Gravity Rush. We’re always listening for your feedback.

      Thank you very much!

  • I have a playstation TV and gravity rush is the one game I really wanted to play but it wasn’t compatible. Now thanks to this I am beyond happy to buy gravity rush remastered and gravity rush 2.

I just hope I can add that awesome collectors edition to my room as well. That figma figure looks cool even though I have this one

    http://www.destructoid.com//ul/274742-/gravurshkat1-noscale.jpg

Thanks Nick Accordino for responding to all of us needy gamers. lol

  • Why is Gravity Rush two only for PS4 and not the PlayStation Trio? You left those with a Vita with so many unanswered questions. Not everyone can afford a $500 console. And don’t say stuff like the cant handle it cause just look at Toukiden Kiawmi. The only difference is the graphics and I bet it will be the same with Toukiden 2. In fact KT didn’t evan need to make a squall. So was the Vita some sort of test for to you to see if it would sell well and if it did you make it for PS4 and if not make for the PlayStation Trio or only Vita.

  • So,they aren’t going to make it for the vita and maybe not even later on? I just think they are being unfair to the ps vita players and how could you not do it for the system it originally came out for. Some people can’t just buy a ps4, you know.

  • And the Vita loses yet another solid exclusive, to its own home console. Wouldn’t be surprised to hear an announcement of a Soul Sacrifice HD Remaster by the end of the year.

  • The music in this game is incredible.

  • Incredible game and very disappointing news. Sad but i will drop it.

  • Oh yes can’t wait for Gravity Rush CashGrab Edition – oops sorry Remastered Edition to be released.

But wait I’ve already played it. On the Vita. You know what isn’t coming to the Vita? THE SEQUEL

You know why? Because Sony, (and by Sony I mean morons like Shuhei Yoshida, Scott Rohde and John Koller) who I hold directly responsible for allowing the Vita to die a slow death. This is what happens when you put people in charge that have no vision for a product. Fire these three idiots and hire someone like Kevin Feige over at Marvel who know what they’re doing and have a vision for your company.

You failed to not only market the Vita to the general public, you also failed to support it and it’s owners. Gravity Rush 2 isn’t being released on the Vita is an insult. Considering the first game was released to a much smaller installed base (The Vita is currently on 12 million worldwide) I am confused as to why you wouldn’t release a Vita version. The Vita DESPERATELY needs more exclusive titles like Gravity Rush 2. Not indie crap that Yoshida wants us to believe is a great substitute. If I sound angry. It’s because I AM. THE PS VITA IS DEAD.

I won’t be buying Gravity Rush 2 unless it comes to Vita.

  • Since you guys started a Kickstarter campaign for a game you’re already funding, how about you start one for the Vita? Since you clearly don’t give a s— about our own product maybe the fans might save it? You know, do your jobs for you?

  • can’t wait to replay this. Hoping for the LE to come to NA. Also pls for all that is holy get rid of the swipe to dodge and map to R or L2 by itself with L2+R2 for gravity Slide

  • Please add my name to the list of people that believe these games need to come out in North America. Make it happen, Nick!

Thanks for taking the time to reply to so many comments.

  • Loved the game on Vita, but I’m glad it now has a chance to grow on a more powerful platform!

PLEASE consider bringing over the Figma Bundle Collector’s Edition! I’d buy it in a heartbeat!

  • One of the best games on Vita, sequel goes to PS4. *shakes head*

  • Wow, I need that collector’s edition in my life. That box art is so beautiful! Please consider a physical retail release for North America.

  • Great to see the remaster, but the lack of any talk about Gravity Rush 2 is concerning. No one wants a return to the early days of SCEA when great titles failed to be bought over here for arbitrary reasons.

It’s one of the best looking ps4 exclusives, so i’ve no clue why SCEA could be silent about it.

  • When and where can I preorder this and Gravity Rush 2 already?

I need The Gravity Queen on my PS4!

  • Hey I really want to get the collectors edition for gravity rush that comes with the figure is it likely that we are going to get that in the west or will I have to preorder it in Japan

  • I have to know if we will be getting a collectors edition with the figma I looked online at the Japanese amazon and they said they are currently out of stock out of all the games I would splurge on this year it’s this one and I honestly would pay 200-300 dollars for that set with the kat figma please keep us updated gravity rush is one of my all time favorite games

  • HI

Thank You Sony to put Gravity Rush remastered for ps4.

I have a question for you

The Collector edition will be in America?? and if it yes What items we going to have in case that it comes to america?

My second question its, the japanese versión of gravity rush have subtitles in english?

    Greetings

  • Count me in for really, REALLY wanting a retail release in North America, or at least an English release in Europe, so I can import it. If it’s digital only, I regrettably probably won’t be buying it, which is a shame, since I really want to play this.

  • Cool, I really want to play the game again.
I wonder If the players who own the vita version will get the remastered for free.
    Playstation should do that, really.
(I’m a Big Gravity Rush Fan)

But either way, I still want to play that game again.
