20 Tips to Master Star Wars Battlefront

Blasting enemy troopers, dogfighting with iconic starships, playing as Hero characters, creating powerful hands of Star Cards… There’s an entire galaxy of gameplay waiting for you in Star Wars Battlefront — and we want to make your first moments on the battlefront count.

We’ve gathered 20 tips that will aid you on your path to becoming a master. These simple-but-crucial pointers come straight from the DICE development team and cover weapons, vehicles, and more.

Star Wars Battlefront

Blasters and Weapons

Christian Johannesén, Designer

  • “Maintain controlled fire with your blaster to manage both heat and bolt spread.”
  • “With each successful cooling flush, the skill game increases in difficulty. When failing, dying or not activating the cooling flush, the difficulty level will decrease again.”
  • “The Ion Shot makes your blaster more powerful against vehicles, and weaker against troopers during its active time.”

Star Cards and Power-ups

Christian Johannesén, Designer

  • “The Ion Grenade is a great way to quickly deal with pesky Droids and turrets.”
  • “The Pulse Cannon does greater damage the longer it’s charged. A fully charged shot will defeat a person with one shot.”
  • “Combine the Jump Pack with an explosion based weapon — like the Bowcaster — to rain mayhem from above.”
  • “The Smoke Grenade not only reduces vision, but also blocks lock-on functions for weapons, turrets, and Droids.”
  • “Energy shields blocks incoming energy blasts, but solid projectiles like grenades, rockets, and the Cycler Rifle slug will pass through.”
  • “If you have a power up you do not want, you can hit interact (Square) in front of a power-up to change it for a new one.”
  • “The Cycler Rifle and Pulse Cannon must be fired while scoping in order to maximize its accuracy.”
  • “The Smart Rocket fires like a regular launcher, but the rocket will target and track a vehicle if fired in its general direction.”

Piloting Starfighters

Nick Baker, Designer

  • “If you take damage while trying to call in a vehicle the progress will be reset.”
  • “Evasive maneuvers break missile lock and Soft Lock.”
  • “Reduced velocity increases weapon power, increased velocity reduces weapon power for the A-wing, X-wing TIE fighter, TIE interceptor, Slave I, and the Millennium Falcon.”

Björn Sundell, Vehicle Designer

  • “Hold the Left Trigger to activate your targeting system on the starfighters. It helps you land your shots.”

Miscellaneous

Christian Johannesén, Designer

  • “A Trait will grant a passive bonus and level up with kill streaks. When dying, the Trait will lose a level again.”
  • “Customize your hand of Star Cards accordingly in Hero Hunt and Heroes vs Villains. Not even a Jedi can block an explosion.”
  • “Droids are not only great for attacking the enemy team, they also have a scan pulse that reveals enemies to your entire team.”

Star Wars Battlefront

Jim Fagerlund, Mission Scripter

  • “In regular Battles, press the D-pad up to make your AI allies ‘search and destroy’ and D-pad right to ‘follow player.'”

Nick Baker, Designer

  • “The AT-ST has a weak spot on its back, try to target this when attacking one and defend it when piloting.”

There are many more tips to learn about Star Wars Battlefront, so stay tuned for more tips like these. We also recommend the Training Missions, where you’ll get a chance to pilot X-wings and play as Darth Vader on your own or with a friend before facing the heat of live multiplayer.

Good luck and may the Force be with you!

  • Nice tips, particularly about the nuances of cooling flush and ship fire. Getting excited for tomorrow’s release.

Never spend $100 to get $15 off your preorder because Sony will wait till the last minute so you can’t..

    • Ya it sure is taking a while isn’t it.

    • SmokeAdellic

      Conveniently…

    • CrusaderForever

Sony stated from day one we wouldn’t receive our $15 credit until on or around 11/17. Just be happy you received a $15 credit! Especially at such an easy time of the year to achieve the credit. The way I look at it, I was able to get Star Wars Battlefront for $45! :)

    • SmokeAdellic

Yeah they say you won’t receive until November 17th or before yet every other promotion we receive right away… Quit defending that garbage!
Your one of those lesser of 2 evils type.

    • Every single spend $100 get $15 back promo has been like this. Its always a few weeks after it ends. You being unable to do a tiny bit of research or at least looking at the promo is no ones fault but yours.

    • SmokeAdellic

I’ve done every one of these promotions and never has it been given on the deadline… It’s always usually given within the 1st week or so.

    • It’s only $15 who gives a @#£% get a job or hit mummy up for an allowance blow out …. really if ur that hard up for coin post me ur address I’ll send u $20 but u must promise never to post of topic whingey whiney issues with pre order promises …. How ever if u care to post your thoughts in gameplay or some tip glitch or cool snip bit of interesting related on topic info I’m all ears.

  • Not a huge Star Wars fan like many, more of a Marvel/Superheroes kinda guy, but I’ve got this preordered and ready for pickup at 9PM PST tonight. Thanx for the tips, can’t wait to jump in, and likely be annihilated anyway; all in the name of good fun.

    I have a question.

The game doesn’t run at 1080p on either console, it is up-scaled to that resolution.

Does setting the PS4 to a lower native resolution and letting the tv upscale the image affect in any way the games performance?

I have heard some games with unlocked frame rates such as Infamous run at higher FPS when you set your PS4 to 720p output.

With this game being 60FPS already there may be no point, but just wanted to ask someone who may be able to get an actual answer to this question, specifically for this title.

It would be nice if setting your PS4 to 720p improved the LOD or draw distance or something for every game.

this isnt a PC but we already have games which let us lock at 30 or unlocked, use AA or do not, etc.

Why cant every game let you choose between 1080p 30, and 720p 60???

I’ve only done the tutorial, four of the training missions and ONE Battle against AI and I already love this game. If I didn’t have to get up and take my kid to school in five hours I’d probably stay up all night playing. AWESOME STUFF!

I enjoyed the Beta and was considering buying this, but the base game seems lite on content and that $50 DLC doesn’t help. Just not ready to spend $110 on this game for everything, or get stuck with the $60 bare bones base game.

Think I’m gonna just skip it all together.

  • I’m just wondering. I bought the deluxe edition which gives instant access to certain weapons, but I don’t have that access to anything, I still have to wait until I have a higher level and more currency before it’s unlocked. Am i missing something? because the description said instant access.

    • If you go into your Playsation Store I think and go to the game you will see if as something you have to download after you have put in the code. It was weird for me that after I put in in on the redeem code page I had to then go to the game in the store to download the extras. – Hope that helps

  • EA should definitely add split screen online play. It ran pretty well in BFII. Game still looks great in co-op split screen so why it isn’t in the online is beyond me!

  • thanks that’s exactly what needed to be done.
