Vote Now: PS.Blog Game of the Year 2015 Awards

PlayStation.Blog Game of the Year 2015 (for white background)

It’s that time of year again! Whether you’re finishing up last-minute holiday shopping, booking a trip back home, prioritizing your gaming catch-up plans, or just taking it easy until 2016, there’s one thing we can all come together for: Game of the Year voting!

We’re lucky enough to live in a world where every year is pretty darned good for gamers, but 2015 was a year where PlayStation 4 really started to hit its stride. We started 2015’s list of GotY nominees nice ‘n early with FromSoftware’s Bloodborne, but things have stayed steady throughout the year.

A few quick housekeeping notes before we dive in:

  • Nominees are limited to games that have never appeared on a PlayStation platform before.
  • Additionally, if a game has won for a specific category in a previous year, it’s no longer eligible to win in that category this year.
  • We tried to include a (very) wide range of nominees for each category, but if your favorite isn’t on the list feel free to write it in at the bottom of each form.

We’re keeping the polls open until the end of 2015 to give folks time to catch up on any games they might still have in their backlog (I’m looking at you, Geralt). Once the polls close at 11:59pm Pacific on December 31st, we’ll start tallying ’em up, with the big Winners post following in early January.

But enough stalling — let’s vote!

I think Trine 3: The Artifacts of Power should be a candidate for Best Soundtrack, although Shovel Knight (which is already in the list) was really good too.

Bloodborne is definitely my favorite game this year. Witcher 3, Life is Strange and Until Dawn were also pretty good.

Got it voted.
It would be cool if Yakuza 0 is added to the Most Anticipated 2016.
Game deserves it.

It’s depressing to even see Destiny up there… seriously take that out.

What was so terrible about Destiny?

How is Uncharted 4, Sony’s biggest upcoming exclusive not nominated in the Most Anticipated of 2016 category? Seems like a massive oversight here

Groundsy said:

Maybe I don’t understand the criteria but I think The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky SC should be on there somewhere.

If Megadimension Neptunia VII can get on the list even though it is release date is Feb 2016 then The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel should make the list even though it is released on Dec 22.

Ummmm, Sooo, how is Uncharted 4 not on the most anticipated game of 2016 list?…unless im blind.

Nerroth said:

Megadimension Neptunia VII is currently on this year’s PS4 list, but the game won’t be out until 2016. (It was released in 2015 over in Japan, though.)

Actually, it looks like Bandai Namco may be teasing one (or two) games which are on Vita and PS4 over in Japan: there’s a teaser site which may (or may not) be for God Eater: Resurrection and/or for God Eater 2: Rage Burst.

As for other games which may or may not appear in the West in 2016, Bamco are also working on the next Sword Art Online game, Hollow Realization, over in Japan. Given the pattern which Hollow Fragment and Lost Song have followed in 2014 and 2015 respectively, I would not be surprised to see a localization announcement for SAO:HR at some point in the New Year.

And for Vita, I’m hoping that Idea Factory International will bring the Neptunia/SeHa Girls crossover RPG to North America in 2016.

My Game of the Year vote choice was easy…The Game that made me set aside “Big AAA” titles was HELLDIVERS.
300+ plus hrs of chaotic, challenging good fun.

My most anticipated game for 2016 was a Very tough choice…Between Mass Effect: Andromeda, Deus Ex:Mankind divided, Horizon: Zero Dawn, DS3, Dishonored 2 and No Man’s sky.

I held my nose and voted for an EA game, Mass Effect: Andromeda (Cautiously optimistic) hopefully they won’t find a way to Fvck !t up. To their credit, Plant Vs Zombies GF2 looks really good and seems everything right so far from what i’ve seen. This Game Needs to be added to the list. It’s due next February :)

The rest of the games on my list, i plan to buy anyway…Unless they’re “Always Online”. Not a God dang dime.

My .02

Where is Persona 5 in the “Most Anticipated “? That and some PS4 exclusives like Uncharted 4 are the only reason why I got a PS4 while the rest I play on the XBOX ONE.

I had a really hard time voting, especially for the best game on vita. The vita had an amazing year and the next one is looking to be great as well!

LouVelvet said:

December 19th, 11:45 pm

This might’ve already been mentioned, but is there a particular reason why Tales from the Borderlands was not nominated for best digital only? Did it come out on disk or something?

It was tough to decide some of these… I haven’t even really touched my PS3 for about a year now if I’m not mistaken… Some of these I chose not to vote due to not playing my PS3, not downloading games from my library (due to lack of space on my PS4), not playing my Vita enough, and not returning to games after they get a large expansion (like Destiny). So many games, so little time, no more storage room and no room for my PS3 which has been packed up since June… :(

This is how i voted
Best Ps4 game: Metal Gear Solid 5: The phantom Pain
Best Ps3 game: I did a write in and it was Elder Scrolls Skyrim
Best Ps Vita game: since i don’t have a ps vita i wrote Persona 4: Dancing all night
Best Story: Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain
Best Sound Track: Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain all those 80’s songs and those actual 2 songs for the game itself were awesome.
Best Digital Only Release: Rocket league. I only played it once, however it was alot of fun.
Best Multiplayer: gave this to Rocket League aswell
Most anticipated game of 2016: Easy, The Last Guardian
Best Free PS Plus Game: Dishonored
Best Expansion: The Witcher 3: Hearts of the Stone
Best Studio of the year: it was either square enix or Kojima productions for me… So it was Kojima Productions.

So, will the list of anticipated 2016 games now be updated to account for Bandai Namco’s recent batch of announcements?

BoreusSimiusXXV said:

Best PS4 Game: The Witcher 3 (Speaks for itself)
Best PS3 Game: Metal Gear Solid V (I don’t own a PS3 any more but if the PS3 version is anything like the PS4 version it should be the clear winner.
Best PS Vita Game: Super Meat Boy (I don’t have one but that’s what I would have enjoyed the most)
Best Story: The Witcher 3 (You could pick not only the main story but many of the side-quest stories for this award)
Best Soundtrack: The Witcher 3 (Perfectly fits the setting and the gameplay)
Best Digital-Only Release: Rocket League (The game that did football better than FIFA)
Best Multiplayer: Star Wars Battlefront (Might not be the most popular choice but I’m really enjoying it)
Most Anticipated for 2016: Uncharted 4 A Thief’s End (Am I missing something? Why isn’t this on the list? Very ironic that it is missing considering the game is made by Sony)
Best PS Plus Free Game: Valiant Hearts (An all round treat to play)
Best Expansion: Dragon Age: Trespasser (Absolutely incredible finale to Inquisition that left me awestruck.)
Best Studio: CD Project Red (Not only did they make one of the greatest games of all time, and my personal favourite ever, they accompanied it with a business model that puts the players first.)

ejforstadt said:

Why isn’t Uncharted 4 on Most Anticipated Game of 2016?

Welmosca said:

December 21st, 11:01 am

In most of the categories is as if only Witcher 3 was available to vote…like best PS4 game, best expansion, studio of the year to CDPR,best soundtrack and etc…there is no other choice.

Also I can’t believe Uncharted 4 ain’t in the list of most anticipated game of 2016.

And great job leaving recycled games out of this…it would be nonsense to put them in the list.

I absolutely adored The Witcher 3 across all the categories. For a studio with a much smaller budget and “fame” they did a job that is, of course, only in my opinion, unmatchable. This is THE game, THE studio and THE “full package” that I’d like to have with every purchase. Pick wisely and merry christmas you lovely people;)

Also, what about Yakuza 0 for most anticipated game of 2016

I would suggest adding Omega Quintet to the Best Soundtrack category, mainly because music is a very prominent theme in the game, but it’s also very uniquely modeled around Japanese anime and idol culture.
