Hey there! I’m Chris Chung, an indie developer and crazy cat guy who made Catlateral Damage, a silly game about being a house cat on a rampage.

Today, Fire Hose Games and I are excited to announce that we’re launching the game on PS4 on March 22nd, with a 20% discount for PS Plus members! Me-wow!

Catlateral Damage is a first-person destructive cat simulator where you play as a cat and make messes. The controls are very similar to other first-person games, but there are no guns, shooting, or violence. Instead, you use your paws to cause as much destruction as possible in your owner’s house by knocking all of their belongings onto the floor. It’s quite a meditative experience that allows you to better empathize with the felines in your life.

And it’s not just limited to your house; you can also wreck a log cabin, a mansion, and even a supermarket and museum! All levels are procedurally generated, so you can litter-ally be a cat fur-ever. (Sorry, cat puns are like my thing now.)

There are two game modes: Objective Mode and Litterbox Mode. In Objective Mode, each level you play has a time limit and an objective. Your objective is simply to knock the target number of objects onto the floor within the time limit.

In Litterbox Mode, you pick a level type and play for as long as you want! No time limit, no objective, just pure kitty chaos. In both game modes, you can collect upgrades by playing with various cat toys to improve your movement and swatting abilities. There are also random events that will occur periodically, some of which reward you with power ups and some that are just for fun. My favorite events are moon gravity and disco. They make absolutely no sense.

The game originally started as a simple prototype back in 2013. I created it in 7 days for the 7DFPS game jam, where the only prompt was to make a new, interesting first-person shooter. I’ve always wanted to play a game where you could see through the eyes of an everyday house cat, and I used my personal experience growing up with lots of cats for reference. My primary inspiration was my childhood cat, Nippy, who loved to cause trouble to get what he wanted. I somewhat selfishly created the game I wanted to play, but it turns out lots of other people wanted to be a cat in a game, too!

In 2014, we ran a successful Kickstarter where 2,500+ other cat lovers helped make the game a reality. Not only did they contribute funds, but a bunch of them also provided the playable cats and cat photos you see in the game. There are more than 250 photos of real cats owned by real people that you can find and collect. That has to be a world record or something, right?

In any case, this is a game that is about cats, for cat people, and made by cat people. My cats, Wil & Lyn, even helped with development sometimes! (Who am I kidding? They mostly just slept and asked to be fed. Typical.)

And now you can be a cat on PS4! Feel free to leave me any questions (or cat puns) in the comments. I hope you enjoy the game when it launches on March 22nd! Thanks!

  • How much will this game cost? This looks hilarious and fantastic.

    • Oops, forgot to mention that! The game will be $9.99 ($7.99 for PS Plus members during launch week).

  • This game is absolutely fantastic. I’m really happy that it’s coming to PS4 now. Everyone needs to play it. It’s so much fun.

I backed the Kickstarter, and my cat Morpheus is one in of the cat photos in the game! I can’t wait to find him on PS4. :3

    • That should say “my cat Morpheus is one in of the cat photos”. CATS KNOCKED MY TYPING SKILLS ONTO THE FLOOR

    • And i forgot to even correct the typo. YOU GET IT. I STILL BLAME CATS.

  • Very excited to finally get to play this!

My only hope/wish is that there will be some form of PSVR support down the road.

  • BUYING IT.

  • DAY ONE PURCHASED

  • PS Vita crossbuy?

  • CATamari! :O I’m in.

  • this game looks purr-fect, i litter-ally cannot wait to get my paws on this.

  • Take my money right meow! Even my wife should enjoy this. As a servant of 4 indoor cats, I approve!

  • Will this support remote play? I’m going to be out of town when it releases, but I want to play it!

  • I remember this game…it looks freakin hilarious and fun as well.I as a major cat lover am bound to get this game at some point. Its a real shame its coming only to PS4…would like to see it on PS3 or Vita, please consider bringing the game to them.

    • WolfyHopeless

The PS3 is pretty much come and gone now butmaybe they’ll bust out something for Vita…. which is also pretty much come and gone

  • LightOfValkyrie

Loved his game on PC. Can’t wait to get it again.

  • Lord_Ripper02

Can’t wait to get inside the head of my cat and figure out why he’s such an goof sometimes lol.

  • neorudemovement

    Day one purchase!

  • This was a poorly realized ad. 30 seconds in and no gameplay whatsoever. The live action commercial is so cringe worthy and the humor is so forced that I just can’t make it through the video anymore to see how the game plays.

  • My backlog is currently at capacity, but I am strongly considering this (my sick 2 year old is demanding “MORE CAT” as I type this I.e. Play the catemptible trailer again).

Make it or break it question : how many playable calico’s are there? Will there be DLC (Downloadable Catent) to add additional calico’s?

      That’s adorable!

There aren’t any playable calico cats, unfortunately. Most of the playable cats are from our Kickstarter backers, and I guess none of them had a calico. There are several photos of them that appear on the walls though! I’ll consider calico DLC for the future. :)

I would love, love, love to see Slam Bolt Scrappers come to PS4 (and Vita!) with network play. That game was so much fun on PS3, and got totally screwed by the PSN hack happening the same week as release.

I’m excited to see you guys doing more original content for console, regardless!

  • Missed the kickstarted. My calico female Hopscotch would have looked awesome in this game. :)

  • ShadowStar83x

    This looks funny!

  • zatanna0zatara

Looks fun! I think I need a change of pace from serious, depressing content to have happy go lucky entertainment. :)

  • Hope it can come to PS Vita!

  • Day one Purr-chase fur me(-ow)!

  • Honestly this isnt a game i’ll get into… but I LOVE the creativity and obvious love of the product you’re making. I really hope you do well, good luck. P.S. i’ll point a few people i think might like this your way.

  • So much fun on PC. My girlfriend’s daughter and I had one of our first real bonding moments over this game (and how horrible my girlfriend was at it! Although at least she tried.) Will definitely be picking this up when it comes out. The same sort of good clean fun that I had with Octodad, if that helps to sway you into purchase!

  • Will there be a two player mode?

  • Rofl_Biscuit

    *Squeals with excitement!*

  • That trailer…..what a cat-astrophe! Hehehe

  • Nice! Can’t wait to catch that glowing red dot.

  • “Sorry, cat puns are like my thing now.”

    Don’t you mean meow?

  • ZombieRollz

Lol this trailer was very original and the game looks crazy fun. I will definitely keep an out for this!

  • JayDon_Man1805

i am happy that catlateal damage is coming to the PS4 it was on steam for the PC

  • This looks fun!

  • Aww my Tortoiseshell would do that too, every morning to wake me up to give her breakfast.. she passed away in 2014.. Your’s is very cute. I will be sure to get the game, and play it in her honor. Now if I can do it with out crying will be the trick, I miss Cookie.

  • Oh my gravy! This game looks amazing. I’m buying it on day one, especially at that price. :D

Will this game support Local multiplayer? Also, I know you get this a lot, but I hope you seriously consider a PS Vita release as well. :)

    [insert closing cat pun here]

  • emeraldkat77

Please tell me this will be redone for the sonyVR (or at least give those of us who plan on purchasing the game the option to upgrade to a VR compatible version when its released later this year)! I’ve loved playing this on the computer and I think this is the purrfect title to add to the line up.

  • Rofl_Biscuit

Chris you mentioned possible DLC content, mainly skins, different cats, etc? Is there a price that has been determined for the DLC or is it going to be free?

Either way, never got the chance to play on PC, but I am definitely getting this game. :3

If there ends up being additional content, it’ll most likely be added in a free update. I’ve done some free content updates for the PC version (which are included in the PS4 version), so I anticipate any new stuff would work the same way!

  • ThornWolf13

Why isn’t it on the psn store yet? It’s the 22nd….

  • DCShoesCOUSA98

So its March 22nd… Where is it?

  • Rofl_Biscuit

Hmmm, some of the achievements earned won’t net you the PS4 equivalent trophy?

Also have almost every cat, I just need it to be Saturday. DX

    • I’m having the same problem, two of my trophies are earned in the game but won’t pop or sync with psn.

  • Is this not coming to the EU store, Chris? Doesn’t show up on search and I can’t seem to find any word on that…

    • Chris Chung
      Chris Chung

It’s not there yet but it will be! I’m fixing up some bugs that cropped up on the NA version, then I’ll be submitting it for a EU release.
