PlayStation Vue Goes Nationwide, Starting at $29.99 in New Markets

Many of you have been patiently waiting for PlayStation Vue to come to your city, and today we’re pleased to announce that PlayStation Vue is making its nationwide debut. We’re expanding the service to the rest of the U.S. to give our fans a better way to watch popular live and on-demand TV from top networks like AMC, ESPN, Comedy Central, Cartoon Network, and more, using PlayStation Vue’s unique streaming features.

PlayStation Vue

We’re kicking off this launch with our new Slim multi-channel plans that are available in the 203 newly launched markets. Here are the prices for these new plans — all are offered with a free seven-day trial.

  • Access Slim: 55+ channels, including live cable TV, movies, and sports channels for $29.99 per month.
  • Core Slim: 70+ channels, including all the channels from Access Slim with the addition of national and regional sports networks for $34.99 per month.
  • Elite Slim: 100+ channels, featuring all the channels from Core Slim with the addition of more top movie and entertainment channels for $44.99 per month.

With an Internet connection and a PlayStation Vue TV-connected device, there are no hidden fees or long-term contracts for PlayStation Vue.

Some of you may be wondering, what’s the difference between Slim and our standard multi-channel plans available in previously launched cities (New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Philadelphia, Dallas, San Francisco, and Miami)? Slim plans are only available in the newly launched markets and will offer all of the same live cable channels as the standard PlayStation Vue plans. However, ABC, FOX and NBC will offer video-on-demand (VOD)-only content. This means you’ll be able to access top network content, including primetime shows, from the three broadcast networks. Most on-demand content will be available within 24 hours after airing. CBS live and on-demand programming will also be added to select cities at a later date.

We’re working to add local broadcast stations to your city, which will add live, local programing to the channel lineup. You can find more information on plans in your city here: www.psvue.com

Users can take advantage of PlayStation Vue’s unique TV streaming features, including the following:

  • Cloud DVR — PlayStation Vue’s unmatched cloud DVR allows users to record hundreds of shows at once and store thousands of hours of content.
  • Simultaneous Streaming — a single PlayStation Vue subscription allows users to simultaneously stream content across different devices.
  • Powerful Interface — this seamlessly blends live and on-demand content to put top programming front and center, with innovative search and discovery tools. You can also “catch up” on many popular programming within the past three days from a show’s first live airing.

PlayStation Vue

In addition, users can also access programming from more than 60 network mobile apps or websites, simply by logging in with their PlayStation Network ID. The mobile apps and websites are developed by network programmers and are a separate offering from PlayStation Vue, but can be used at no additional cost.

Users can access PlayStation Vue through PS4, PS3, Amazon Fire TV, and Fire TV Stick, as well as iPad and iPhone through the PlayStation Vue mobile app. Google Chromecast is also supported via compatible iOS devices.

We’re excited about this expansion, and can’t wait to share more news about our future plans for PlayStation Vue.

  • How about canada? ?

  • Starting a free trial to see how I like it. Very excited at the possibilities!

  • “However, ABC, FOX and NBC will offer video-on-demand (VOD)-only content.”

HUGE GOTCHA!!!!! This means no local news or sports for these channels!! The “watch live sports” only applies to ESPN.

This will not compete with Cable until you get full local channels. You still need CBS, PBS, and BBC too.

    • This is my problem right here, it even lists my local sports network. The small “disclaimer” about channel lists and programming varying from city to city isn’t enough, I need to be able to enter my zip code and know exactly what channels I will actually get.

    • Antenna, problem solved, well except for BBC.

  • This is great news, and I’m signing up right now (after canceling Sling), but what’s the deal with having Chromecast support, but no Android support…?! (i.e. Both being Google platforms)

    • Chromecast only for the MOBILE version which has less channels and even the channels they are restricted sometimes.

  • This is great news, and I’m signing up right now (after canceling Sling), but what’s the deal with having Chromecast support, but no Android support…?! (i.e. Both being Google platforms)

  • Do Playstation Network cards work when using Playstation vue? Because I want to use those instead of a debit or credit card.

  • I’m telling you RIGHT NOW sony if you get SNY so that i can watch the new york Mets, i will drop the TWC cable channels and get the elite package of vue. You already have YES, ESPN, ESPN2, FOXSPORTSNET…GET SNY!

  • I doubt we will get this service in Canada and on Android phones :( I hope im wrong…..

  • I would get this but comcast data caps of 300GB a month makes it impossible. I can’t wait to get the **** out of here and move to LA the only providers here are ATT and Comcast. 8(

  • Next stop Canada, plz sony!

  • I paid for the top tier for a month (in order to get Logo and others). I like the UX in concept, and things were snappy enough.

The reason I cancelled was the video quality. When I download shows from the PlayStation Video Store, they are 1080p and look great. On the PS3, I can see that the average bitrate is around 6.5 megabit per second — notable higher than iTunes and Netflix. PlayStation Vue’s video looks, frankly, awful — like what I remember Comcast and AT&T looking like before we cut the cord.

Please make another blog post when video quality in Vue has parity with the other PlayStation video offerings, and I’ll resubscribe in a heartbeat.

  • Does anyone else having issues starting the app?

  • Please support on the PC, I want get rid of Sling but I also want to watch tv when I am at work. When you support on the PC you will get my money playstation

  • I have been checking almost ever week for it to come to the Tampa Bay area, this is a nice addition at this time. I can watch the on demand version of the live ones. Just get me live TV before football season and Android support and I will be your bestest friend in the whole wide world. So long Direct TV!

  • I’ve seen this stated in comments but I’ll repeat….get Univision

  • Any plans to make this available on Sony brand Smart TVs?

  • No Fox Sports Midwest is a dealbreaker for me :( Is there anyway to sign up for notifications when live broadcasts from Fox are supported in my city?

  • Sling…cancelled. Hulu…cancelled.

  • i’m gonna need live TV from ABC, FOX and NBC ( and the others ) before i can get on board with this….

  • Ever since you added Disney and Freeform we’ve been waiting for this to come to our area. It is exactly the kind of service I wanted to replace our cable with (I wanted live airing, not just a netflix like service <- already have netflix for that). So excited to see you finally added it to our area. This is perfect for us (Hell, my tv in my bedroom is so old it has no HDMI so being able to use the PS3 for this service is great as it still can connect to my ancient tv, heh).

  • This is great! I’ve been anxiously waiting for this to either come to my area (Austin) or go national. Still a little bummed that CW isn’t included. Any word on if/when that may be happening?

  • Let me know if it ever comes to Canada.

  • Seriously considering this since my Cable promo is ending this month. Hope the add El Rey Network (for me) and Univision (for the rest of the family)

  • So question, if this is tied to your PSN network ID I won’t be able run it simultaniously on three seperate PS3 consoles will I? I am seriously considering it if I can watch at the same time as it would be perfect for entertaining guests for march madness on three tv’s in the house.

  • On Demand Only needs to die. It’s 2016 and the practice is super out dated.

  • This would get me to pull the trigger on cutting cable once and for all BUT you have to know that all channels broadcast in stereo ONLY. So if you have a nice surround sound setup you’ll only get audio from 2 speakers. Please add this feature and I’ll sign up!!

  • No History Channel :( :( I would switch in a second if it weren’t for that :(

  • When will sony fix there broken credit card system. i cant even sign up for this because the network wont accept my credit card number…SMH

  • Please add NFL Network 2 PlayStation Vue and NFL Redzone before the NFL 2016 season

  • Website appears to have finally updated, and there’s no sign of MASN/MASN2 for the Baltimore area. So much for regional sports (I was mostly interested for that). Disappointing. Any chance we’ll see them added at a later date? I guess I’ll check back periodically.

    • Would love to see MASN. Need to find a way to watch the O’s now in Pa. Damn MLB Tv blocks all there games in our region

  • You can only watch on one device in your house at a time (PS4). Your other family members are stuck using ipads or PC’s to watch the VUE.

Also, check to see if you local stations are available, most likely not.

For the price its still not really worth it for me.

  • Best news I’ve heard all day! I’ve been waiting for this and can now say goodbye to the overpriced D^#*#TV! Thanks!

  • Finally!!!! thanks goodness!!!

  • Hope your servers are ready for the possible influx of users and increased demand. Glitchy service isn’t what you want when making a first impression. But glad the whole country can try it now.

  • I cut the cable chord over a year ago. I’m enjoying VUE right now! Great service!

  • A Slim package should be made available in the older markets as well. The $10 price difference can and will make a difference.

PS. Why must I scroll all the way down to make a comment? You may want to place the LEAVE A COMMENT field at the beginning of the comment section. As with most sites nowadays.

PSS. Why must I always LOG IN when visiting this site. I understand security is #1 but we can have both if implemented properly.

    • OK. I tKe back the scroll down comment due to the ability to jump to the end by clicking ADD YOUR OWN.

Something new everyday.. Now.. How about that LOG IN issue?!?

    • OK. I take back the scroll down comment due to the ability to jump to the end by clicking ADD YOUR OWN.

Something new everyday.. Now.. How about that LOG IN issue?!?

  • Great news and I hope you guys can make an Apple TV version as well that would perfect for me thanks

  • The website still not showing the new pricing and i’m in the Greater LA area. When will the new pricing show up on the PSVue website?

    • The new “slim” packages are only available outside the orignal launch markets. I am willing to bet that as they add live local TV in new markets the slim packages will go away in those areas. Unless an uproar happens.

  • Nice selection. I would like to see the History channels added at some point, though.

  • I was really excited to see this. I downloaded Vue, clicked for my free trial, selected my package, then it all went wrong. It wanted my birth date and gender and then it had a zip code that wasn’t mine. I re-entered my proper zip code and was told ti’s not available in my area, even though on the app icon in the TV & Video tab it says “NOW IN YOUR CITY”. Is the Nationwide availability not out yet? If not this article is VERY misleading and should be changed.

  • Like many others have said, supporting Android is a must have. Releasing a Playstation Vue app for the Apple TV 4 also will be necessary if Sony wants Playstation Vue to be successful in beating cable. I will not buy an Amazon Fire TV or Chrome Cast when I already own Android OTT boxes and an Apple TV 4 which is far more superior than an Amazon Fire TV.

Also, if I am so close to my city that I can pick up my local stations with an antenna I have no need for to pay the extra $10 to have local stations. Sony should give people a choice on whether they want to pay for local channels or not. Assuming that people in the existing 7 markets just want the local stations without letting them opt out isn’t attractive especially since those same channels are free with an antenna. In addition, the highest broadcast tv retransmission fees with Comcast are about $3.50, which is $6.50 less than what Sony is charging for the same channels.

  • Are these promotional prices or are they the permanent prices? Our dish contract doesn’t run out until next month, would hate to miss these prices.

Also, if they are promotional prices, or if there is ever a price change, it wouldn’t be auto deducted without my approval would it?

  • Was so happy to see it finally launched. I was checking it off and on at least once a week so was surprised when I saw “Now in your city”. So far I’m loving it, no problems as of now, no crashing, freeze, etc.

Now we just need CBS, NBC, ABC and The CW. Plus HBO and Cinemax.

  • I’d like to know how does Playstation Vue fair when compared with a Hulu/Netflix/Amazon Prime combo? I mean, I’d love to have live TV on my Playstation, but I feel that to get me as a customer it would need to add a few more channels and drop that price to $19.99 like those DirecTV promotions.

  • I signed up online, excited that I could watch on my iPad. Then I got “No Profiles Found”, contacted support, and found out I need an actual PlayStation to watch TV on my iPad?

    What?

It says you need a compatible device, and goes on to list the iPad (I have an iPad Air 2) as compatible.

So I signed up for a trial.

So you require a PlayStation of me, when I am *not* a gamer and never will be, and will *never* buy a PlayStation.

    All to watch TV?

    That’s (quite) a bit much!

Off to CANCEL my VUE subscription!

    • and the link in the “welcome” email says I should see my subscription, so I can cancel.

Of course, it is not there to cancel!

    • I also noticed this, but have a PS4. Was wondering how it would work for the people who aren’t interested in games. The basic questions that were presented on the PS4 were basic and would easily work on the mobile devices.

    • Fire TV is cheap. A lot of programs are mobile or AirPlay restricted anyway. I have PS3 and PS4 but I’m going to get fire tv for this. PlayStation uses far too much electricity and the fan noise plus furnace like heat generation is annoying.

  • I love this service. Just signed up today. If you’re NHL fan though, apparently you can’t get live streaming games. That’s a huge bummer that I wish I would’ve known about.

    • That was the immediate deal-breaker for me. As soon as NBC Sports came up blank during the Kings/Blackhawks game tonight I was out.

    • Are you in either of those markets? If not I have a feeling it’s due to the NHL offering their streaming service which is tailored to games that are “out of market” for your team. Sure, it’s terrible that one could watch this via TV if you had the channel but in this case I’m not sure there is much Sony can do when the contract between NBCSN and NHL states ties their hands from the onset.

    • No, I live in Seattle. I should have zero blackout conflicts as there isn’t a team here.

I know it’s not Sony’s fault, but there’s no way I’m going to switch from cable to a service that doesn’t provide what I want to watch. It’s an intriguing option, but one that (for me personally at least) doesn’t quite get there yet.

  • Only one more channel. Come on A&E!!!!!

  • So I signed up for the free trial….looks great love the layout. Two very big issues for me though. I’m in St. Louis and the website says that my local sports channel FSMW is available but it’s not showing up in my guide. Also you have the NBCSC available but the hockey game is not available. Both those would make it a no go to stick with it.

  • I’ve used Vue before with Showtime really to test it. It worked good enough.

Now I have subscribed for the slim package in my area, and obviously you were not ready Sony. On Demand content will either fail to play or only play for a few minutes, and the live content will start buffering quickly.

The problem isn’t on my end, and I need this fixed before my trail is up. 7 days, Sony. 7 days.

  • Is PS Vue available in Puerto Rico? It says “PS Vue available in your city” but when I try to get the free trial an error message appears “We’re working to resolve an issue, please try again soon.”. Does someone know something about this?
