Hatsune Miku is the world’s most famous digital singer, and now she’s coming back to PlayStation bigger and better than ever in Hatsune Miku: Project Diva X!

The core rhythm gameplay is back, but there’s a whole host of new additions to this game that separate it from previous Project Diva titles — if you’re new to Miku, it’s the best Project Diva game to get into yet. And if you’re a Miku veteran, there’s plenty of new content to keep you going through the game’s 30-song soundtrack!

First, Project Diva X is driven forward through a narrative which centers on Miku and her friends undertaking various requests as they explore the five Clouds that make up their world. Each Cloud has its own unique aura — Classic, Cool, Cute, Elegant, and Quirky — and everything from the songs to the modules (costumes) and accessories that Miku and her friends wear fit one of those auras!

Each of the Clouds has special requests that challenge players. And as a series first, modules will all have a random chance to drop during a song! Traditionally they were purchased with currency earned based on completing a song, but now they’re more similar to a random loot drop.

Second, the game now lets you interact with Miku and her friends as they discover what it’s like to live in the world of Project Diva X. Miku and her friends talk and forge relationships as the players progress through the game… and they may wind up revealing the secret of the eponymous “X”!

Finally, there’s the newly added Concert Editor, which lets players mix and match the game’s 30 new songs/arrangements and medleys, 300 modules, and accessories to produce custom live concerts starring Hatsune Miku and her friends!

The game is getting a physical and digital release in the Americas, and you’ll be able to play it on your PS4 and PS Vita this fall!

  • Would be nice if you didn’t make Vita owners wait until the PS4 port was done, but whatever.

    • John Hardin

While it may not be released the same way as Japan is getting the games, we’re still getting both versions in physical and digital releases! Hooray!

    • Yeah, I know. Things could be worse. Sega could be another Japanese company with an S and an E in their name that rather than localize their Vita versions, they just port to Steam.

    • MakaiOokami

I just get upset that they don’t do a cross-buy or if at least not a cross-buy a double pack, or a digital buy in. Though, with it being physical, 20% off Amazon of Amazon Prime subscribers… that’s not a bad deal. Best Buy same thing.

I probably would have gotten more Miku games (or even 1) if they had Cross-buy of some sort. Otherwise it just kinda deflates it. I might like 1 version more than the other, or find that I prefer to play on the Vita because of what ever reason. i played most of Sound Shapes on the Vita as an example.

  • Oh wow. I was not expecting to get the localized version the same year as the Japanese version released! This is super exciting. Thanks SEGA. ^^

    • John Hardin

Miku is Love. Miku is Life.

(welp, time to go rewatch some more Mikudayo vids)

  • OMG! MIKUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!! ^_^

    My most anticipated game of 2016!!!! <3 <3 <3

(btw, any word on a western release for Future Tone?)

  • HypnoDarkrai

Imported the JP version but will buy the localized Vita!
Please bring the Vita theme over too :D

  • Awesome news! Thanks John, Sam, and everyone else at Sega and Sony! I’m very happy to see physical and digital versions for both! The Vita is an amazing platform for rhythm game fans!

    • John Hardin

You’re welcome! This is Sam’s baby, and he’s probably as excited as you are :D

  • Awesome! Was thinking of importing it, but I will wait and just get both physical editions here! Thank you!!

  • Turbolence88

This is awesome, fantastic news! Now I don’t need to jump the gun with an import. Just gotta hold off a bit longer.

Are there any plans to produce a PS4-compatible arcade style controller, such as the Project Diva F mini controller from Hori? The only way to play it is with the proper button platform at your fingertips!

    • John Hardin

I don’t think we have any plans, but we’ve talked to Hori about stuff before and can talk to them again!

  • musicman2059

For a second there I thought you had forgotten about us.

Is the “And I’m LOL” in the karaoke line for Lots of Laugh an indication that we may get translated lyrics? I know with Mirai DX it was touched on that the lack of English lyrics was the result of respecting the wishes of the artists so I wasn’t sure if we’d see them fully translated in full. (Though, I hope it’s better than translating “atashi wa LOL” to “And I’m LOL” to be honest)

  • LightOfValkyrie

Thank you for this. I bought F and F2nd twice, so I can’t wait to do it again with X. Really looking forward to it.

  • BahamuttZero

    MIKU!!!!!!
    THANKS SEGA!!!
    I can’t wait for this!

  • So this a direct sequel to Diva 2?…nice to see that Vita is getting a retail release.Still need to get 2 but I’ll definitely get X too.

  • Welp, looks like I’m going to have two copies of PD X. Bought the Japanese ver just last week. lol
Miku keeps draining my wallet. XD

  • Any news for Europe, John? We’d like to enjoy it in physical format!

    • John Hardin

      ;____;

      No EU news unfortunately

    • Yeah we could do with some Project Diva love in Europe. I had to import all my copies and I don’t really appreciate the overpriced import value.

Come on Sega. you want to bring your image back up. then support the world with your games. I’m personally not willing to support Sega as a company and buy Sega titles new if they are not willing to support the gamers of my area of the world.

  • so glad I held myself this time and didn’t imported the japanese version!
gonna get it as soon as it’s come out!

Sega, thanks a lot for bringing it to us :3

  • GilgameshLFX

Can someone please tell me if this going to be in HK/Asia region? PS HK/Asia gives zero respond. Yea, we’re small market. Most likely the smallest in the world. But there are fans here waiting for English release. Currently we only got Chinese version. If this is Project DIVA f or F2nd I don’t mind playing guessing game as the menu is simple and there’s not much that needed wall of text to explain. But Project DIVA X right here, getting complicated. Guessing is no longer work. So please someone. Doesn’t matter if it only going to be a digital release. Let us know if it ever going to reach HK/Asia region.

  • Gaming_Neko39

I just got the imported version of Project Diva X and now they’re bringing it ti the West. AWESOME!

  • Crimson-ScarXX7

Yes!!! Day 1!!! Does Sega have any more surprise localizations this year?!

  • Yay! I wish it was cross buy, though.

  • Sons-of-Helghan

Physical copies are love. Miku-chan is life. Day one buy for me~ Thanks, Sega!

Also will the PS Vita version be PlayStation TV compatible?

    • John Hardin
      John Hardin

Yes! It should be, but there are a few features that might be disabled. (touch, I’m guessing)

  • Xcaligamer1

Yay. Going to a miku concert here in Houston soon

    • John Hardin
      John Hardin

Awesome, I’ve heard the shows are insane! (in a good way)

  • So excited! I’ll definitely buy physical ps4 and digital on Vita! So happy. All that’s left is PSO2, and I know it sounds like a broken record but please surprise us with this for PS4 at E3 this year!! I can’t even understand how I want that game so bad! Sega, if you know anything about it, just let us know to give us hope again!

I hate to be the crusher of dreams, but we already announced that the PS4 version would not be released in the americas :( :( :(

  • AbsoluteChoice

Woo! I’ve been eagerly awaiting for this to be announced, day one buy for me.
Really digging the mitchie m songs, hoping that “Burenai ai de” is included in the game.

P.S. A special edition would be awesome!

  • Miss_Megumi_na

AWESOME! Thx, Sega! You guys are rocking this year! Day 1 purchase for the PSVita version! Can you guys surprise us a second time by releasing Phantasy Star Online 2 for the PSVita in the west? ^-^

  • Mavrickjubei

Sweet! Sounds like you guys are on a comeback for 2016! Is Phantasy Star Online 2 for the Vita in the lineup?

  • EmperorKorea

Wow, physical release for Vita? Pretty cool.

Kind of odd that this has less songs than F 2nd though.

  • A physical edition is being released? SWEEEEEEEET

As with every physical vita game in NA, day one purchase for me.

I have every NA physical release and I’m not going to stop now!!!

    • Sega,

Now give us PSO2 on the Vita here in the West as well as a port of Valkyria Chronicles 3 on the VITA and I’ll love you forever.

    • John Hardin
      John Hardin

:O that’s a lot of Vita games! Handhelds rock though.

  • Not my type of game, but still cool you guys are bringing it out physically for both systems. I am still hoping for Phantasy Star Online 2. Also getting Valkyria Chronicles Remastered. I still wish Valkyria Chronicles 2 and 3 had gotten physical releases in the US. Of course 3 did not get released here at all. I did get the second one digitally and all the DLC. Still good to hear things from Sega though.

  • Yes yes yes! I’ve been waiting to see if this was going to get localized, I assumed it would but I can’t wait. Vita all the way, it is so perfect for the Vita. Looking forward to it! Day 1 HYPE! Thanks Sega

  • Is the edit mode for personal customized creation still available in PDX?

    • John Hardin
      John Hardin

Not really. The Concert Editor is what’s replaced it though!

  • DragonLord1389

Yes! Thank you so much, Sega! I was debating whether or not to import the game, but I’m glad I waited a little bit. I’ll definitely be picking up both the PS4 and Vita versions on day one!

  • As someone who’s played DIVA X for over 60 hours so far, I am curious if any of the grinding has been mitigated for the Western release. It’s taking forever to get all the trophies and room items and I’m still not done yet. Definitely requesting drop rates are increased for the localization. Also, an interesting renaming of the areas. Looking forward to it!

Also, is there any word on the exclusive Modules (CA Style A, and CA Style 39)?

  • BlueBl1zzard

Awesomeness! Thanks Sega for bringing this over to the west. And like others above have said, I would totally love you guys forever if you brought Phantasy Star Online 2 over here as well :D

  • meganeairhead

At least it won’t be a long wait until the localization. Let us know asap when you know when we’ll get Future Tone (Future Sound and Colorful Tone). I do wish the announcement would come before the release in Japan so those who imported because they are addicted to the series but aren’t fluent in Japanese (like myself god help me) don’t get anxious with the thought of it possibly not coming overseas, though i know nothing of how that works I can only complain about it.

  • 初音ミクちゃん最高!!!

  • I imported the Japanese version and I’m enjoying it.

Any word on adding an “import save” feature like you did with Project Diva F 2nd for people who want to double-dip?

  • YuukiMageIII

    MIKU FOR THE WINNNNNN!!!!!!
    CANT WAIT

  • will be picking this up. Thanks.

  • Is this game goona have season pass ?

  • shadysaiyanz

Yes can’t wait! Hey John, is there any chance of the PS4 version getting some amazing Miku themed Limited Edition so i can get it for my girlfriend? She’s crazy into Miku.

  • godshand3547

This is the only franchise that made me think that im a masochist. My thumbs hurt like hell every time i play F and F2nd but i cant stop, i just keep playing.
    Anyway, great news, cant wait.

  • Dear SEGA,

I really, really despise digital copies, yet i went ahead and bought Yakuza 5. That’s how much I love SEGA games.

I bought Daytona USA, Sega Rally Online and Sonic & All Stars Racing and…Surprise!! My most favorite SEGA racing game which is Outrun 2 is not on my purchase list because SEGA decided to release Outrun Online Arcade on PSN in Europe Region only. Did SEGA really gave the rest of us a chance to buy it? Is it fair for the rest of us?

    https://twitter.com/ziomack/status/714653985001476100

  • This is fantastic news. I’ll second what Koschei_ said, it would be really nice to be able to import saves from the Japanese version. It’s a buy for me regardless, though.

  • VinsanityV21

Loved Project F and F2 on PS3, I’d normally pick this up in a heartbeat! But I know – for whatever reason – Sega (Japan) announced Diva X and then Future Tone, like, within 2 weeks of each other or something nonsensical. I know that kinda sh- “poop” is out of your hands, Sega West, but it’s still incredibly stupid – why bother with Diva X when Future Tone is coming out and has over 200 songs? This should just be a Vita-only game if you ask me. For PS4, I’ll just hold out for Future Tone.

It has more content and looks way better (the move to non-cel shading with great lighting and arcade quality assets is a nice way to differentiate it from the previous games on PS3, imho). I’ll wait to see if it gets an official western announcement throughout the rest of 2016, but if not, I’ll just import it – it’s a music game, the language barrier is nonexistent, y’know? Again, sorry that Sega Japan is a big idiot that screws you guys over constantly, but that’s how I feel. Hatsune Miku Future Tone PS4 is the way to go, far as I’m concerned.

This is neat for Vita people, I guess.

  • BandaiNamco209

I’m not that good at rhythm games but everyone’s talking about Miku Future Tone PS4 on Miku community (≧∇≦)

  • X_O-Big_Boss

Must pre-order both versions like I always do. I knew you guys would reveal both versions getting localized around the time it hits Japan, just like F 2nd lol.
I’m happy to see english lyrics back after the lack of them in Project Mirai, though I wanted to ask if its possible to have an option for the lyrics to display in original Japanese Hiragana/Katakana/Kanji? I’ve been learning the language for the past year (vocaloid got me into it the most :p) and can’t really go back to reading romaji, would love if there was finally an option in a localized Diva!

  • stratosHD_au

Please more releases for the Vita in english please please! and thanks for this release!

  • Will definitely get both physical versions! Thanks for keeping up the support for the PS Vita!

  • GamerDudette189

OMG!! See this is why I love Sega so much! ^-^

  • I am still extremely sad we never got the Toro DLC for the Project Diva f. I love popipo and I LOVE Toro, its crazy to me that that never ended up being released stateside. and worse, the odd of it ever happening two games later are probably zero.
    I want more Toro!

  • eduterminator

Sega I just wanna say THANK YOU >.< really love DIVA series and love miku :3 I love this game to much :3
