Another great show guys! Ratchet is fantastic so far and I’m so happy that it has been so well received by the critics. Looking forward to Invisible Inc next week as well as Axiom Verge on the VIta.

Ratchet & Clank? Trophies? JRPGs? I don’t think a week goes by where you guys don’t talk about at least one thing relevant to my interests. Love it! :D

Third episode in a row with no Sid?!? This makes me a sad panda. :(

JRPGS – Trails of Cold Steel (PS3, Vita), Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch (PS3), Persona 4 Golden (Vita)
Tales series is supposed to be great, haven’t played much of them myself but you can find them on every platform under the sun.
Not sure about Star Ocean V, but 1 & 2 are pretty good. Also recommend checking out the Breath of Fire series if you can.

Final Fantasy is the most accessible JRPG series. Good places to jump in are FFVI, FFVII, FFIX and even FFX. You can play the whole series from 1-10 on Vita.

Persona 5 is the one to watch going forward. The Persona games are worth checking out, though 1 & 2 aren’t the most noob-friendly games. 3 & 4 are the gateway drug.

PS4 isn’t really in the best place for JRPGs quite yet. It’s got a few so far, but nothing that’s really outstanding. Vita is the one for JRPGs right now – Disgaea 3 & 4, Lost Dimension, P4G, Cold Steel, Neptunia 1-3, FFX & X-2, Conception 2, Demon Gaze, Mind=Zero, Tales of Hearts R, Ys: Memories of Celceta. Upcoming titles include Odin Sphere, Cold Steel 2, Ray Gigant, Stranger of Sword City, World of Final Fantasy, Grand Kingdom.

A few Western JRPGs worth taking a look at are Child of Light, YIIK and Cosmic Star Heroine.

  • I’m looking forward to listen to the show! It’s always so entertaining and the highlight of my Thursday/Friday! :)

I’m having such a great time playing Ratchet & Clank, a game that revives the “magic” that consoles are known for, and though very distinct, will surely become an analogue to Mario and Sonic of our generation. While it lacks the scope of Crack In Time, the game is so well composed — and most importantly, so FUN — that it is an absolute delight to play. I didn’t think that it would be possible for a game to top The Witness as my 2016 Game Of The Year (and it still may remain my front-runner), PS4’s Ratchet & Clank has forced pause and contemplation for that competition. It is easily one of the _best_ experiences I have had with the PS4 to date.

I heartily look forward to a sequel! Something as full as Crack In Time would be a _dream_. I’m so hungry for more that I’m considering renting a few more R&C games via PS Now; it is so wonderful to be able to play these classics on demand with the press of a button and zero installation!

Up next: alienation! What a month!

Please less personal stuff and more game talk. I was really hoping for a deeper discussion of Ratchet and Clank since you guys are the Playstation Blogcast and R&C is so identified with this brand. Hopefully you will talk about it more next week and your relationship to the franchise.

  • When it comes to Sword Art Online, there will be a new SAO game, Hollow Realization, coming to North America on PS4 and Vita later in 2016.

Also, it might be worth taking a look at Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth, which is also on PS4 and Vita. There is a new Vita game in the series, Digimon World: Next Order, available in Japan; but there has been no news on a Western localization as of yet. (If it does come over, I’d expect there to be PS4 version added also, as was done for Cyber Sleuth.)

The Neptunia series was mentioned a few posts up. Aside from the three “Re;Birth” titles on Vita, there are various spinoff Nepgames on the handheld (with two more on the way in 2016), as well as Megadimension Neptunia Victory II on PS4.

There are some Japanese titles which have been released in that country but not (yet) announced for localization which I’m hoping o see more news about at some point, such as Falcom’s Tokyo Xanadu (for Vita), FuRyu’s Caligula (also for Vita; this one is being scripted by the story writer for Persona 1 and 2), or Marvelous and Type-Moon’s Fate/Extella (for Vita and PS4).

  • I think you 3 need to get into some JRPGs besides FF14. You’re missing out on some good ones, like the Tales franchise.

Especially since you (Ryan) used to review them ages ago!

  • Boot+pigeon+can – classic

I’m enjoying Ratchet and Clank as well. I never played the older games and am pleasantly surprised about the quality of the shooter mechanics.

Finally, I can not believe that there was not any dark souls 3 conversation this week. Seeing how 2 and Bloodborne dominated the discussion for months, I’m very surprised that none of you are playing this one yet.

awesome story about zion!! I love that place!!. next time you are in utah you should drive a little further north on I-15 to a little town called Beaver (that’s where I live) and stop by the dairy farmer’s of america creamery and chalet and try the world famous ice cream and fresh cheese curd! you won’t be disappointed!

  • First: Congratulations to Ryan for helping make a baby boy. I wish you all the best and may you gain inhuman amounts of wisdom and patience.

Second: My favorite platinum is for Saints Row: The Third. I took a year long break from playing the game, then snagged the final trophy on the one year anniversary of my break at 3:55 (3rd 5treet 5aints).

Third: The trophies for The Swapper are tied to ten hidden computer consoles. If you notice an area that you might be able to reach, it’s probably because you can… and there’s a hidden trophy getting computer log in there somewhere.

Fouth: Zion is biblical. It is first mentioned as a fortress captured by David in what became Jerusalem. It became the site of the temple. In the Old Testament it is used for the temple, the city of Jerusalem and/or the nation of Israel. To the LDS church Zion is a place in the Americas where the “New Jerusalem” from the Book of Revelation will be located (or something like that). Zion is used in fiction and in religions/spiritual movements to denote, “safe fortress,” City of God,” or a utopian place or state of being.

Lastly, I need to start season 2 of Togetherness, I binged the first season a few weeks ago.

    • I binged the first season a few weeks ago *and enjoyed it. Has Nick tried the show “Love” on Netflix yet?

    • *Fourth:

(How’d I not notice? Yes I am that obsessive, sorry.)
