Hi guys, just asked the developer and it’s out in a couple of weeks – cross-buy and cross-save, so hold those horses. I’ll pick it up on PS4 on the EU store for the time being then look forward to playing on the vita! :-) Love this kind of retro game but you guys probably don’t have the videogame nostalgia that we have in the UK.

I’ll be buried in Overwatch this week. That Ninja Turtles game looks great as well. TMNT and Platinum Games is a fantastic combo on paper. I hope it’s good.

Downwell is fantastic, definitely check it out. It’s only $3 on PC and mobile, so hopefully it’s priced close to that. Great little game for the price.

VinsanityV21 said:

Boo! To not having money, I mean – definitely not Overwatch. MAN do I wish I could pick that up this week, and TMNT, and Last Blade 2. I also think Lumo and Crazy Strike Bowling EX look like they could be fun, but they’re not priorities – I’d like to grab them much later on this year though. Just DARN IT, lack of money and free time.

Kids today better appreciate having so much free time during this constant onslaught of awesome games they’re getting this gen; this is magnitudes more amazing games coming out than we had back in the N64/PSX/Dreamcast days! But I know too many dummies are wasting time on tablet/smartphone garbage, urrgh.

I really want Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to be good… but lets be honestly i’m not trusting it to be. Luckily Platinum games does have a good history so we’ll see if it pulls out a winner… but when a game is forced to be released along with the terrible movie… i’m a little worried. but hopefully they can pull a Ratchet and Clank and make an awesome game with a so so movie.

I think the game will be at least alright. With Amazon Prime I am not paying a high amount for it. However I really liked Transformers Devastation, so I may end up being surprised. However I would love it if the original arcade game and the original Turtles in Time got released on PSN.

Ok, so the PS4 has all this massive power behind it…..so I just don’t get why a simplistic game like “Lumo” is made for this platform only. Games like this don’t show off or stretch the PS4 in any way. They seem more like filler each week, so Sony can simply pad the number of Weekly Releases. The game would be MUCH better suited to the PS Vita….in fact, it would be perfect for the Vita. Yet, time and time again, each week here, I see all these platformers and 8-bit games released for the PS4 and not for the Vita.

Boggles the mind, doesn’t it? And also just goes to show the lack of support for the Vita, which is pretty infuriating for loyal Vita owners like myself.

Make no mistake… I love my PS4 to death. But I’m not sitting by the phone waiting to hear that “Lumo” has been released for it….and platformers are one of my favorite genres.

Thanks for the info…..that’s good to hear. Still unsure why they continue to bring out these kind of games for the PS4, all while charging premium prices.

It’s like having a 4K HDTV and playing a VHS on it. I just don’t get it.

    veryhoudini11 said:

    May 23rd, 1:12 am

So you think Sony shouldn’t allow indie games on the ps4 because its overpowered or that they should tell companies you can’t make this game for the ps4 but we’ll take a vita version? That’s incredibly poor logic you have there. Sony is open to Indies for a plethora of good reasons but one example is that if we didn’t get these games you called fillers we would barely get anything. Do you realize how long AAA games take to make? Also you should realize not every game is made to please you specifically.

    Seluhir said:

    May 23rd, 7:08 am

The PS4 is easy to develop for, and has a large install base, and isn’t bogged down with the hundreds of thousands of indies that Steam has, so games get better visibility here.

It makes perfect sense that small teams develop small games for the ps4.

    Tatanka2007 said:

    May 23rd, 11:07 am

+1! Many of the indie titles released for PS4 have already been on PC. They are cheaper on Steam, and being retro-titles don’t require anything special to play. If indie titles were priced more reasonably, I’d probably look a little closer. Many different sites routinely bundle indie games for the PC, which makes their cost on PS4 seem even more ludicrous.

I suspect indie fans and haters are separated by a generation gap or two. I don’t want to relive games from the 90s (or earlier) on my PS4. Anyway, I’ll just continue the support these indie games the best way I know how: I won’t buy them!

    SilentNova said:

    May 23rd, 2:51 pm

Steam does not sell the same titles cheaper than they are on PSN and most of the indie bundles also end up on PS4 if they were on Steam. Like Dragon Book Fantasy for example. The only games that tend to go on super sale on Steam are either much older titles or the ones the majority of people could care less about like Breath of Death VIII which goes on sale on Steam fairly frequently or gets bundles with the Cthulu game.

Now Borderlands 2 DLC tends to go on sale on Steam which does not seem to happen on PSN and the Xbox Store. Other than that same prices and same sales most of the time. You can almost start to guess what will be on sale when and where sometimes. Even funnier when they all have the exact same sale going at the same time and people still say, blah blah blah has the better sale. Call of Duty had the exact same sale going on all three platforms the same week and all at the same prices and people were still arguing over who was cheaper.

    rudetoy said:

    May 23rd, 3:23 pm

@Veryhoudini- your argument is flawed. There’s a difference between a really elementary 8-bit indie like “Retsnom” which could be played on a PS ONE (it’s almost a joke on the PS4) vs. a terrific indie like “Outlast”, which makes ample use of the PS4’s capability.

    Don’t confuse the argument, son.

    Seluhir said:

    May 24th, 4:18 am

To put it bluntly. The more games the console has, the healthier it is. Why? Because people have different tastes and the more different people a console can offer software for, the better for us all.

Be happy these games are out, even if they don’t appeal to you, because they mean that there’s someone else out there who is interested in the console who is getting what THEY want… and as a result, there’s one more console that’s been sold. The more consoles sold, the more AAA games it gets down the line, which are what you’re after – right?

It’s kind of like if you look at MMO development. Sure raiders may not want silly things like non-combat pets or achievements for exploring the world… but for every non-raider the game keeps subscribed, the developers have more money to be able to put towards creating more raids – since raids are usually the most expensive part of the game’s development.

Same thing here, for every person who likes indy games we appeal to, the console’s market share gets a bit better which makes publishers happier about investing in large games for the platform.

nikki_boagreis said:

You can’t affect how ppl think, always bashing indies before playing simply because it’s an indie. Personally i couldn’t care less about indies being on current gen because alot of them are really good like Bastion, 5 star Wrestling, Dust an Elslayn Tail etc Just because you heard game(s) aren’t good doesn’t make it true. Currently im anticipating Rainbow Skies a SRPG indie that has gameplay like Disgaea

I don’t agree with pc ports in ps store updates but if ppl purchase them & it makes them happy then ..

I’d rather see Vita games added then Arcade Archive games that you can literally 100% trophies within 30 minutes or less

Just TMNT for myself, been waiting for a TMNT game for awhile after playing OOTS on last gen imo it was a failure so hopefully this TMNT is an improvement

    TheHerbinator75 said:

    May 23rd, 3:14 am

The majority of my favorite titles on both PS3 and PS4 have been indie titles. I don’t expect every game to look like Uncharted 4. I am all about ideas in gaming and indie gaming tends to be much more focused on pure gameplay mechanics rather than AAA titles these days.

    rudetoy said:

    May 23rd, 3:25 pm

Has NOTHING to do with Indies, per se. As I’ve said, “Outlast” comes from an indie studio (Red Barrels) and it makes great use of the PS4’s capabilities. I’m talking about games that are more retro than even retro, games with graphics SO old that you could (and SHOULD) play them on a console 2 or 3 generations previous.

A game like “Retsnom” is an insult to be released for the PS4. Like I said, it’s like playing a VHS tape on an ultra-HD 4K television.

    It’s almost a joke.

@Tatanka- “Many of the indie titles released for PS4 have already been on PC. They are cheaper on Steam, and being retro-titles don’t require anything special to play. If indie titles were priced more reasonably, I’d probably look a little closer”

EXACTLY! If a retro-retro-retro game is released for the PS4 (probably 8 or 16-bit graphics), it should reflect retro prices as well. None of these games should cost more than 99 cents, in my opinion. If anyone is willing to pay upwards of $15 dollars for a game that is more suited for the PS ONE, they need to have their heads examined.

If anything, tiny games like that would be perfect on the PS Vita’s small screen, where the flaws of such a game graphically would be downplayed. Honestly, a game like that on the PS4? I don’t see how you wouldn’t get a gigantic headache, for real.

    SilentNova said:

    May 23rd, 4:37 pm

Except they are not actually cheaper on Steam. Like Dragon Book Fantasy which is $9.99 on both and the collection is available on both. Bastion, Elysium, Pinball, and so on.

On top of that while I have a gaming PC, I still prefer to play games like Bastion on PS4 over my PC. Also I get the benefit of many of them also being useable on my Vita along side the PS3/PS4 versions.

If there is a market for it, then they might as well cater to them. Not like Sony is personally dedicating all of their own teams or telling all the big “AAA” developers to make those sort of games. They are just allowing indie companies to make games for their platform and sell it which helps the indie companies get noticed even more. Even 8-bit games like Dragon Book Fnatasy.

nikki_boagreis said:

May 23rd, 5:21 pm

So basically because you don’t think indies or retro games deserve a spot in the ps store or for nothing more them $.99 then no no one can have them because supposedly they give ppl a headache. .. Anyhow, ppl pay for classics from PSX like FF7 ported numerous times then trophy support & a remaster .. No one says anything about that, just don’t put retro retro retro games in the ps store. Imo FF7 doesn’t deserve a remaster because it’s already on current gen with trophy support. Square can’t release Kh3 until they recover loses from FF7 remaster, Star Ocean, FFXII port with trophy support & FFXV

I’ve tried debating FF7 doesn’t need a remaster as well as debating with randoms that current gen games in development take awhile before release so they fill the ps store with low budget games each week just so they can keep us happy or pass it off as a ps store update. ..debating here or anywhere won’t affect anything anytime soon

Randoms have no problem paying for FF7 numerous times or a remaster & most likely expansions or additional party members just don’t add indies or retro games, exactly.

    rudetoy said:

    May 23rd, 5:43 pm

My good man, if you want to pay $9.99 for a game designed for an inferior system, you go for it and you enjoy. Gigantic waste if you ask me, but do whatever you’d like.

@silentnova- “If there is a market for it, then they might as well cater to them.”
Ya see, I don’t think there IS a market for this. I doubt most PS4 gamers are all geeked up to play a game 30 years old that you can barely make out on the screen, it’s so pixelated. You want to? As I said, enjoy!

As for me, I prefer to play games on a system that came out within the last 15 years. Nothing wrong with the occasional retro game, but they have an incredible arrogance to charge first-gen prices (digital, not retail).

    SilentNova said:

    May 23rd, 6:19 pm

Except none of these indies really charge first gen prices. Often starting at $10 and going to $20 unless they have a boat load of add-ons later.

Now some fairly high scale ones charge more if they manage to get good voice actors and are able to spend money on the graphics, but even then most are not over $40.

Also not seeing a market as not the same as one existing and you originally said they essientally had no place on the console. The market for PS4 is expanding in so many directions it would be very hard for a game not to find some form of success on the console unless it seriously required a feature the PS4 simply has zero support for a feature of the game. Like most touchscreen games would not likely transition well onto the PS4 if that was actually a major part of the functionality.

The problem with current gamers think that there are specific markets per platform and that is really not true. If you look at Steam, the games that have done super well on it, have also done super well on console. Like Borderlands 2 for example. Appealing to the largest audience possible is always a positive in this market.

    rudetoy said:

Except, I doubt that making “Retsnom” for the PS4 is appealing to the largest market. Theres not a big market for an 8-bit game like that on the PS4. Likewise, I’m quite certain no one bought a PS4 so they could play a game like “Retsnom” or “Lumo”.

What’s most offensive is the prices for these “barely there” games. 99 cents? Ok, sure, some folks might pony up a dollar for some game with 30-year-old graphics that probably would keep someone enthralled for all of 5 minutes. Anything pricier is highway robbery. To be honest, such a game should be a freebie for gamers.

But, of course, I’m sure there’s someone out there who doesn’t mind plopping down $19.99 for a game best suited for the Atari 2600.

    To each their own.

I seriously doubt Retsnom will cost more than $9.99. But yes games like that actually have been doing fairly well. Like Lone Survivor for example and the other game I personally cannot remember the title of. I refer to as 8-bit Shadow of the Colossus.

The point is if you felt it was to each their own, you would not have griped about such games being on PSN for the PS4 in the first place.

Sometimes a game being kind of simple in design can be fun to go back to. Like Doom while it has much better graphics than its predecessors went back to simple design. No reload on weapons, fast motion, no fall damage, and armor/health pick ups. Also tons of secret rooms.

Granted I am not one of the people that will likley buy Retsnom, but that game was not geared towards me in anyway. However it has a fairly big market and that market does exist on PS4. I just do not see why so many people complain when any game gets released for the most part. This year alone I have gotten about eight new games for PS4. I do not care for Overwatch at all. How is that in any way hindering my experience when I have already gotten so many games?

Gigantic waist as appose to weapon skin dlc or map packs for FPS games, as i already said about indies or retro games “if ppl purchase them & it makes them happy then” Because you think it’s a gigantic waist or assume no one anticipates 30 year old retro games doesn’t make it true. PS4 isn’t inferior, PS3 was & still is the more inferior system. So my good man because you don’t like seeing something or don’t think others get hyped-up over it like mountain dew doesn’t mean it doesn’t deserve a spot in the ps store. This fourm isn’t for debating what you expected or don’t think is required of current gen, they have public fourms for that as well as topics on Us.PlayStation for randoms who bash indies in the ps plus selection & not free AAA games.

The point is they can’t keep everyone happy all the time, why i waist time explaining is beyond me. You debating here on this fourm won’t affect anything as anyone knows this isn’t a debate fourm & no one will really see it anyhow.

Who are YOU to say what this forum can be used for? Last I checked, you weren’t a Sony censor (or are you?).

There’s a history of healthy debate on this blog.

    Deal with it, son.

There’s a history of healthy debate, and you’ve never been a part of any of it because your opinions can always be summed up as: “If it doesn’t appeal to me, it shouldn’t be on my console” which is not an argument that can spawn ‘debate’.

Yes it will be. It just might not be pre-orderable, but it is still kind of early announcement wise.

Who writes these descriptions? Why bother putting the text up if it reads so poorly.

Am I the only one that is embarrassed about some of these games and their synopsises. I understand that English may not be every developers first language, but someone in the North American offices at Sony needs to help them. A poorly written statement about your game could potentially cost your game a large amount of sales. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles had a great sales pitch. It shared what it was and what I could expect. On the other hand Zombies: The Last Survivor and Retsnom descriptions and picture really doesn’t tell me anything. I will not spend my money on them. Somebody please help these developers with writing a better grammatically coherent descriptions for their games. This will help us to spend our money on them. which will help the game industry.

When I see a game that looks interesting I tend to look up videos on it for insight into the gameplay rather than just relying on a paragraph here. In respect to translations and foreign products I kind of give a little leeway to those products because I understand that niche products won’t have a top tier marketing for it and again use videos to help decide if it’s worth buy or not. It’s far easier to complain though.

Many of these write ups are poorly written. Do these get proofread for grammar and typos. Some of these seem like translation issues.

I was super stoked over The Last Blade 2, but it seems the game is currently broken. I can only get a few fights in before it crashes. Every time, it’s on the Large Fire at Wadamoya Stage.
