No Man’s Sky Coming to PS4 in August

No Man’s Sky

Hello, Sean Murray from Hello Games here, working extremely hard on our game, No Man’s Sky.

The game really has come together, and it’s such an incredible relief. As we sit an play it now, and as I watch playtesters every day, I can finally let myself get excited. We’re actually doing this.

However, as we approached our final deadlines, we realized that some key moments needed extra polish to bring them up to our standards. I have had to make the tough choice to delay the game for a few weeks to allow us to deliver something special.

After a short delay, No Man’s Sky will launch in North America on August 9, in Europe August 10, and in the UK August 12.

Diplo on No Man’s SkyCreature on No Man’s Sky

We understand that this news is disappointing. Making this game is the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life, but we are so close now, and we’re prepared to make the tough choices to get it right.

The universe of No Man’s Sky is incredibly vast. More than you can imagine. This is a type of game that hasn’t been attempted before, by a smaller team than anyone would expect, under an intense amount of expectation.

And despite all of that, development is genuinely going well. This is the hardest working, most talented team I’ve ever worked with, and I’m so proud of what we’re doing. For all our sakes though, we get one shot to make this game and we can’t mess it up.

To the loyal community who’s stuck by our side since the unveiling of No Man’s Sky years ago, we hope you’ll accept our sincere apology and I am humbly asking that you’ll still look forward to exploring our universe despite the slight delay.

Thank you so much,
Sean

  • I feel like Sony and HG need a crash course in how to handle a community properly and how to handle PR in general. Yes this news is disappointing, but the fact that we had to wait 3 days for an official response is just pathetic. Especially considering that Sony on their twitter account stated that the game was set to release on time. (The tweet was very recent).

Amateurish is the word that comes to mind.

  • I always have more respect for devs that care about the integrity of their product over a release date. I will always take a delay if it means a better final product. If you want proof, look to Uncharted 4.

  • Hey Sean,
Icaruscomplex here. I just want to say that I have been very impressed with everything I’ve seen about your game. I have been following your title for almost two years, have also booked off time to play and yes I am disappointed about the delay…so what.
I am also even more hyped and dedicated to this title than ever. I know first hand that the disappointment felt by playing a long anticipated game that is so full of holes it’s barely playable. A delay is fleeting disappointment, a “finished” game released too early that is frustrating and difficult to play because of bugs and glitches is a let down.
To every member of Hello games, keep up the good work. I truly believe you all are changing the gaming industry.

Just what we were afraid to hear, but obviously this game must be beyond difficult to develop. I hope the pressure isn’t killing Sean and his team. I’m so excited for the possibilities of the game, that I would be happy with my purchase even if they “failed”.

  • Two months? This better be for space whales! :)

  • A few werks ….. this ain’ t a few but 2 months. A few week is 2nd of july. Still looking forward to the game. But will not pre order it until I read some reviews.

  • Mystic_Ice_Sage

I’m a patient person, and didn’t want to play during the sweaty hot summer anyway. However, when Sean had a big smile, saying June 21st, I believed him with an open heart. Now I can’t let myself believe the new date will even be truth. BUT it will still be the most wondrous game ever made!!

  • Take your time! This is a revolutionary game and deserves attention from its crafters! I will patiently wait while being entertained by how ludicrous some of these other comments are… “You ruined my life!” , “Thanks for making my depression worse!”, “I booked time off and bought YouTube equipment!”… what the hell is YouTube equipment?

  • Gotta mentally prepare for the wait, gotta start a new Skyrim save or something! At least it won’t be gross hot and warm when I get to play. Fall & Winter are the best times to play games.!

  • if you’re gonna fix something…make it so we can warp to our friends locations and play together

  • I wouldn’t recommend releasing this game next month anyway it will be competing against some big titles at e3 and that could take it off the spotlight very easily although that would be very hard 2 do considering this game is very impressive so far.

  • So let me get this straight… the game gets delayed like 5 weeks and so many of u r butt hurt over it smh get a life it’s just a game. And it is better to b delayed and get a more polished and finished game anyway especially since this is a very ambitious project with a small team

  • Thanks for the update :). That’s not too bad of a delay .

  • You know I’m glad you guys are really paying attention to your testers and finding those game breaking bugs. I think I speak for all of my friends when I say thank you for working hard. As far as the delay is concerned I for one and happy cause we have all seen what happens when you rush a triple a title….. Assains creed unity anyone. So take your time give us the game we deserve. I’ll be sure to jump in day one and give it a glorious test. Till then I’ll be hacking away at the zombies in 7 days to die.

  • we are as fans from the first step are waiting for the perfect results for the best game.

    take your time

  • The real reason for it being delayed was for marketing they wanted it to go to e3 so they can get more hype for and more people will buy the game if the game came out when it was suppose to it would not of went to e3 2016

  • Hello games im ok with there delay i have been wait for a little over 2 years since day one 2 months isn’t a problem i pre ordered the game 2 months ago the second it hit the ps store but i hope i don’t have to re buy the game an it still saids it will automaticly download on the 18 of june but It’s not in the ps store

  • Well looks like I’m canceling my pre order. And with huge games like Battlefield 1 and the next CoD coming out I won’t be worrying about getting no mans sky any more. What a huge disappointment I was looking forward to the June 21st release since 7 days to die is the only other good game coming out.

    • Just look at the competition:

      Elite: Dangerous Horizons,
      Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare,
      Mass Effect: Andromeda,
      Dual Universe,
      Star Citizen

  • Don’t let the noobs in the comments get you down, Sean. With such a small team, I’m surprised you didn’t have to delay another year for such a large game! The game will be amazing, and while I’m disappointed, I can wait if it means the game will be even greater! :D All of you at Hello Games are extremely talented people. God bless! :)

  • Take your time Hello Games, no worries it’s better if the game is polished up before the initial release for a better gaming experience. I’ll be patiently waiting to play No Man’s Sky, really looking forward to it!

  • I really would rather this be delayed a month than the game totally tank on day one . Good art takes time and patience especially with such a small team. To all the negative folks out there, please grow up and put yourself in Hello Game’s shoes. I understand this is disappointing news but it’s 7 weeks go outside and enjoy your summer till then.

  • Look I’m going to be honest here and say that I’m really upset about the delayed release. I just started summer break from college, a difficult semester indeed, and the fact that NMS was coming out during my break allowing me over a month of enjoyment before going back to hell really made me happy.

I know a game like this that is pretty much breaking the laws of gaming itself needs time to be perfected, and don’t get me wrong, we ALL want this to be perfect. I’m not only excited for myself, but for Hello Games as well as for its a big jump in their career that can put them on the map. I hope you guys are able to add the stuff you needed to and hopefully it goes according to plan, and while we may seem upset, we’re still supporting you, anxiously waiting for the game of year.

And that being said, I think everyone’s anger is just because they just want the game and are worried that we won’t ever get it. Maybe, just maybe, have a demo or some kind of special DLC or something to keep all your fans by your side so you don’t lose so many people who have supported you guys from the beginning l.

I look forward to seeing what you’ve created real soon

  • I was gonna.buy, but I think I am gonna delay that decision. If you don’t know when your game will be ready don’t drop a release date newbs

  • I was gonna.buy, but I think I am gonna delay that decision. If you don’t know when your game will be ready don’t drop a release date newbs. Plus I think your graphica look like dog pewp.

  • Little bummed, but at the same time happy we will be getting your best effort. Kutgw!

  • I can’t wait for it.. Love no man sky!

  • Im sure almost all of us can say we understand why they delayed it and i dont think it was a bad thing, yeah alot of people including me are pretty upset sbout it but anything to make the game better will make it worth the wait as long as they just dont cancel the game ill be fine

  • I’ve been looking forward for this game for years. I pre-ordered it just hours before they announced the delay. I ain’t even mad. It will be out when it comes out, and there is nothing that bickering, name calling or complaining will do to speed the time. Patience young grasshopper, and don’t count your video games before they’re hatched.

  • Been waiting afew years for this game so I guess another few week’s isn’t gonna hurt too much… and at least they’ve delayed it a month before rather than the week before.

Still more annoyed at the fact england still gets it 2 days later even though it’s an english company making the damn game -.-

  • That’s OK I will play Doom in the mean time . I would rather have a great game than a game with a bunch of glitches and bugs . So take your time my reserves not going anywhere .

  • Still’m looking forward to the game regardless of the delays. Seen to many hyped games rushed and unfinished these past few years. Glad this team waiting to put out something they are happy with instead of just throwing out something that the player community will not be satisfied with.

  • Come on!!! Thanks for ruining my life. I scheduled my vacation, got a divorce, gave my children up for adoption, and brought a stockpile of food and water so I could play this game non stop.

  • Better to wait a few weeks than have to deal with bugs that can occur in a rushed release date !

  • Bummer. It sucks that this is how our world is now.
We’re so accustomed to instant gratification that news like this seems like the end of the world.

I’m really happy they aren’t giving us some buggy crappile.
Fingers crossed for that August release date being the final one.

  • “As we sit and play it now…” We want do the same. Thanks to ruined my vacation.

  • I hope it goes well and if more time is needed then so be it. But I will be honest and say that after almost 3 years of hype it has become very hard to stay positive about this game. I hope hello games learns a lesson from this and not show your game until much later in its development. I am still looking forward to it and good luck to you.

  • To everyone claiming they are going to cancel your pre-order… You know you’ll end up pre-ordering it again closer to the release date. Oh and you are going to move your pre-order to another game this fall… Like COD or Battlefield which come out much later then NMS. Take a reality check you’re just butt hurt cause it was one thing and now a different thing. I’m fine with this delay. Hello Games is a tiny team and are working on the largest game to ever be released and if they need more time to make it better they have earned that right. Keep it up Hello Games. If you need additional play testers I’m more then willing to do so and provide feedback if it would help you guys perfect the game further. Can’t wait for August.

    • Wait, a minute so everyone is impatient to play but you YET you want a job as a play tester? LOL.

  • I can understand needing to delay a game to make sure it’s up to the standards you have for it… I only wish Hello Games had given us a little more warning. I had booked my unpaid vacation days off to play NMS launch week… but the word of delay came so late, I am now unable to cancel my vacation. Very disappointed in Hello Games at the moment. I’m not going to rage and hate as so many have done before; but I am extremely disappointed in the way everything turned out. Looks like I’ll get an achievement for getting outside for my vacation!!!

  • I hope sony will change the release date in the ps store because it still saying for me releases in 26 days

  • I would like to know why the pre-order has been removed from the PlayStation store on the PS4 and from the website?

  • Wow. So many entitled little pricks on here. It’s a few weeks. Pull your panties out of your happy crack, get comfortable, breathe, and relax. You’ll get to play it when you get to play it. I’m glad they are taking the time to produce a quality experience. So many developers these days produce crap, or cookie cutter regurgitations of the same game over and over and over. Grow up. As for Sean and the Team, keep going! I am looking forward to this experience. This is the game I’ve wanted since childhood.

  • Take your time guys. I would love to get early access just like everyone else. However, I respect the hello games team enough to let them release their game the way they see fit. They deserve that much. It will be worth the wait.

  • I see both sides. I do want a polished gamr that is done right, but 6 years is a long time for a game. And I have been there since day 1. I would hope for that length of time it is taking that it does come out bug free and leaves myself and everyone in awe.

  • unchartedisaweso

I AM NOT HAPPY!!! let me explain why i understand why a game needs to be delayed, sometimes the alotted time is not enough and you need to have more time to perfect your product, i understand this in fact i encourage this practice fervently, a rushed game is forever bad but a delayed game is eventually good. HOWEVER!! WHAT I DON’T LIKE IS THE RELEASE DATE HAVING BEEN SO CLOSE AND THEN IT BEING DELAYED!!!!!!! Seriously i am certain that anyone reading this can understand my perspective it’s like they waited until we were so close to the release date that we could taste it and yanked it further away i was already expecting to play this game in 2015 then nope 2016 and now it’s even further away. i understand why they did what they did i just don’t like the way they did it.

    • Yep mate, it is all a conspiracy I tell ya!! Dohhh.
OMG some of these comments are just unbelievable.
Like This company is the first one ever to change a release date? I don’t think so.

  • As disappointed as I am that it’s been delayed even longer, I also appreciate it as it shows you really do want to make this game as perfect as possible! And we all want this game to live up to the hype and expectations a lot of us have! Such a sincere apology as well<3 As someone said below a demo/ open beta would be pretty cool.. ;) But for real though, take it easy guys and can't wait to play this game! Never been so excited omg

  • Hopefully it is pushed back to make the game better and not just to fill time at E3, I will be very disappointed if it has a long appearance at E3 its already been there the past few years, I hope they dont waste time on it again.

  • Oh and also, no hate – As you’re a UK team, I find it odd that we are last to receive this game – Any chance digital downloads can be released ALL on one day? No matter your location? That would be sweet <3

  • It is really a shame that there is so much anger and resentment around a 2 month delay. I still dont understand the people complaining how they have spent the money on this. Gamestop.com and amazon dont charge you till the item ships. Gamestop stores dont even require all theoney down. So if you have paid for this in full then its your own fault. This game is such a huge undertaking by a small team that seems to actually give a …… about their game. I stand by everyone else that wants a finished game upon release. This has never been done on a scale like this as far as I have seen and I could be wrong but oh well. Give them credit for doing something amazing and the way they want it. Not the way a bunch of money hungry ceo’s want it. Keep up the good work hello games and hang in there and ignore the naysayers.

    • For me it’s the communication. I want to understand why I am now waiting two more months for something I am super excited for. It’s hard to keep the excitement when you get so close only to be told you have to wait longer.

  • PrefrontalParodo

I understand delays are nessecary, but I will admit I am slightly disappointed in the Hello Games team,I am disappointed because you have hyped up the gaming community and have consistently said release dates and then delayed them,I will still play the gane and keep my pre-order but I hope this is the last delay.I wish you the best of luck in finishing the game and I hope it succeds.

    • I don’t think I could keep my pre order if it’s delayed into next year I’m really excited but I don’t want to wait 10 years

  • Doesn’t really matter about the delay we’ve been waiting this long I’m sure we can hold out for a few more weeks really exited to playing the game
