Persona 5 will Take Your Heart on Valentine’s Day 2017

Take a deep breath. Ok. Ready? Persona 5 has a release date in the Americas. The Phantom Thieves are coming to take your heart on Feb. 14, 2017. Exhale.

And because this is basically the biggest title in ATLUS’ history, we HAD to go all out and do one of our renowned special editions. Exclusive to the PlayStation 4 version of the game, the Persona 5 “Take Your Heart” Premium Edition is going to arrive in a massive, collectible box, and will contain the following:

  • Soundtrack CD: A selection of music from Persona 5 by legendary series composer, Shoji Meguro, in a CD sleeve featuring special P5 artwork.
  • 4” Morgana plush: Morgana the Phantom Thieves’ cat is not just the mascot of the Phantom Thieves, but also a member – and also not just a cat! The premium edition includes an exclusive 4” plush of Morgana.
  • 64-page hardcover art book: This art book is full of concept sketches, character art, and more by character designer Shigenori Soejima.
  • SteelBook: As strong as a vault, the game disc for the PS4 will come specially packaged in a SteelBook collectible case, emblazoned with Persona 5 designs.
  • School bag: Designed after the traditional school bags in Japan, the exclusive replica bag comes complete with the Shujin Academy crest.

The Persona 5 “Take Your Heart” Premium Edition will be available for $89.99!

For those just interested in the PlayStation 4 version of the game, we’re releasing Persona 5 in a special SteelBook® Launch Edition! All pre-orders and a very limited number of launch copies will come in an official, collectible SteelBook case, adorned with glorious Persona 5 art (identical to the one in the “Take Your Heart” Premium Edition). It’ll be $59.99 at launch! Just a reminder, this will be exclusive to the PS4 version.

And for all the rumor-mongers out there, I’m just going to go ahead and confirm this here and now. (What better place than PlayStation.Blog?) Persona 5 is 100 percent still coming out on PlayStation 3. And at launch, it’ll be $49.99 and come in a regular game case.

Now, even after all that, if you still are thinking: “Why 2017!? You promised us 2015, and then 2016! Now it’s 2017?!!!?!” Well, the biggest factor in the 2017 release date is attention to detail. When we show off Persona 5 at E3 next week (Next week!), I think you’ll understand what we mean. We’re making sure every bit is in place. Persona has exponentially grown as a franchise, and considering that this is our first numbered sequel since 2008, ATLUS is taking its time to ensure this is the best possible experience.

I know the wait is agonizing, but I hope you’ll look forward to all the amazing news when Persona 5 infiltrates E3 next week!

  • Persona 5 and horizon on february 2017, my poor wallet. Oh well I’ll preordered “Take Your Heart” edition for sure :)

Thank you Atlus for the great news and I am eagerly awaiting February 17th. Even though I wanted it sooner, I am glad that you took the time to make it the best game it can be. Will there be any benefits for buying the game on the Playstation Network Store?

  • Sigh.. No Japanese voice over again? Well, I am certain this game will get localized to Chinese and they always keep the original voice over.

  • In the past Atlus USA has said that they have absolute faith in their English dubs.
This is actually true. In fact, they have more faith in them than original developers do in the Japanese actors.

Think about, with each Persona game new characters are voiced by different actors, and no actors are shared between characters. That is in Japan, at least. This is because developers don’t have enough faith in actors to give them more than one role. The actors are unreliable.
But in West, they keep using same actors for different characters in series, sometimes even in the same game! Clearly the western voice actors are more reliable, and it’s easier to keep re-using them than getting new talent that’d be arguably cheaper!
In fact, the Japanese voice actors are so unreliable that simply including their work in western version would put it at risk. Atlus is only being sensible by giving us English dubs that feature same actors over and over again.

  • Darn, I thought it was going to launch in 2016… At least I’ll have FFXV to wait till 2017 :( I can’t wait to play Persona!!!

  • While I am also upset about the lack of dual audio, I’m still really looking forward to this. Hopefully something will change concerning that in th 9 months we have to wait. Also, a question: out of curiosity, will the MC we play as actually speak this time? Like something similar to what Tales of Xillia 2 did, where you could pick an option and actually hear the MC say it.

Any chance of this coming to Vita like P4 did?

I don’t really have time to sit and devote time to console games these days, but I can usually find time to whip out a handheld on breaks and stuff. Probably won’t pick this up if it’s console exclusive, unfortunately :/

  • i just hope the EU release isnt that far behind the US one.

question: who was the one who decided valentines day? cause whoever it was has a good sense of humour :P

also idea: for 2 possible themes 1: dynamic velvet room considering the velvet room plays a huge part in the entire persona franchise. and 2: dynamic hangout of the main group.

also john good work so far with being the voice of atlus on here :P considering a number of people here are doing nothing more than insulting atlus and complaining

  • Persona 4 Golden on the Vita is fantastic. So much content on that tiny cart, for such a good price these days. I have yet to ever come close to finishing it, but the hours I’ve spent so far have been most enjoyable.

  • I still think the cover art on the UK and European version will look better and be uncensored. I cannot believe they censored the US cover art for showing a little cleavage, which isn’t real lol.

  • I seriously could not be more excited for this game. I know it’s hard dealing with all the “muh censorship!” people screaming about what is an obvious aesthetic change to the cover art, and all the people who think that not providing dual audio is a crime on par with human trafficking.

    Keep up the great work!

  • Special Edition is an instant buy for me. With as hyped as I am for the game, I can’t say that I mind the delay that much. It’ll make the game all the more sweet when it comes out.

  • Finally there is a date. Been waiting for it for quite sometime now.

  • Well I know what I’ll be doing on Valentine’s Day.
Thank god my girlfriend loves Persona ^_^
Can’t wait to get this game in my hands.

  • I don’t mind about when it released. Be on 2017 or 2018. But as a fan I was really disappointed that they decided not to put JP audio in the game. I was waiting years for them to listen to their fans but until now they never fail to disappoint us. As a fan I wouldn’t even need to think to pay another full price for the JP audio DLC. So if you please and please consider to put JP audio as DLC, that would be our biggest present from you. If they still insist on putting english audio only into the game, then I have no choice but to buy the JP CE version because at least as a fan, I still respect and support the developer team especially to Mr.Shoji Meguro (Music artist) and Mr.Shigenori Soejima(Artist). And I’m not saying that the localization team does a half-ass job or doing a bad job, but as a fan, I would like to enjoy my game as original as possible especially the game itself took in Japan as the location.

  • I am sorry to say say im very disappointed in the delay. Its been nearly eight years i hope its worth the wait. Can someone please tell me if the Japan version has English text I really wish it does so it will save me the wait ,we so don’t need an English dub just Japanese voice with English text.Well for the next 5 months i should be hiding myself away from you tube and forums to avoid spoilers.

  • This would have been an insta-buy for me but as much as I love the persona series I don’t plan to spend a penny on Atlus anymore until they release the games with original audio(JP) and subtitles, doesn’t matter if they throw the English dub as an extra but if the game does not have the original language option I won’t be buying from them anymore. A shame, the art book looks fantastic.

  • I’m getting the collector’s edition. I want that soundtrack and bag. No pressure Atlus…but, we need this game to match or surpass Final Fantasy 15, The Witcher 3, Persona 4, and Star Ocean 4’s quality.

Hi John, I just wanted to say I appreciate Atlus and yourself a lot for dealing with people who will complain endlessly about something that you and many others at your company have no control over. There’s nothing more saddening to see people try and pin something on you, because you’ve been nothing but kind. I wish more companies had a figure like you, because I’ve never seen a company representative speak to fans (and jerks) alike to answer questions along with contributing to discussion. I preordered my premium edition, and just like playing persona 4 years ago with a 110 hour file (longest game I’ve beat still :p) I have trust you guys will do it right. Thanks a ton!

UGH. The Weebs in the comments are absolutely disgusting.

100% preordering the game as soon as I can. I’m a bit bummed that the PS3 version isn’t getting a special edition, but extremely relieved its coming out regardless (physically as well). Can’t wait to see the english dub in action at E3 next week!

  • Hi, been playing most games in the Persona series, but I had a question about the specs for the bag that comes with the Take Your Heart Edition. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

  • Hi, is there a way to get the take your heart with all the stuff but with a digital version of the game?

  • I wonder if we will get any official announcement for Europe.
Even If it is something like:there are no plans to release in Europe(Then we will Import and spend all of our money on import charges EHHHHH >.<)

  • So I’ve never commented on one of these before but I felt the need to now. As I read through the comments I noticed a lot of people were being insulting to John mostly over the dual audio issue which is something I personally don’t understand but I’m not here to talk about that. I want to thank you personally John if you are reading this for the amazing job you do. I know if I was in your position I would have either screamed at these people or just broken down upset. I know that most of these complaints are beyond your control such as release date, dual audio, and special editions being released in japan only. I’m sure especially on the dual audio complaint you are trying your hardest to make that a reality. I’m sure reading some of these hateful comments are heartbreaking. I’m sure you’ve done some work on this project with a team and to know that there are people out there who hate it before they even try it or have even heard the new cast. I simply wanted you, John, and all of the employees of ATLUS and ATLUS USA that I and a vast majority of the people who have read this and not commented appreciate your work and hope that you will continue to make wonderful games for everyone to enjoy.

  • So Horizon Zero Dawn in January, then Persona 5 in February. Thats not right Playstation, I’m gonna need more time to finish Horizon.

  • Will stick with a digital imported version barring any news on dual audio DLC for North America prior to release. Unfortunate, but a good way to continue to improve my Japanese.

I would also be fascinated to learn more about the hurdles surrounding the inclusion of a JP audio track, considering nobody else in the industry seems to have troubles these days. Licensing fees? A factor, but studios both larger and smaller than Atlus seem to manage across the board. Technical hurdles for this particular title? Don’t know how much I believe that when I see something as basic as the Persona 4 anime not having Japanese audio on the BDs. The only time Persona has blessed us with it (P4A) was when the product was region locked. Tinfoil hat time: somebody somewhere is afraid of Japanese customers being able to import Persona products from overseas, even with a 5 month delay.

I get the “every game is different” PR line, but the fact that seemingly every other Japanese game-maker/localization company is able to find a way where the Persona team is not is disheartening as a fan.

More transparency on the issue would be ideal, but I get the sense that transparency in this case would mean throwing business partners under the bus.

  • I played Persona 3 and Persona 4 as a long time ago. I can’t wait another year for p5 :’/ .

  • I NEVER BUY STUPID SPECIAL EDITION THINGS BUT I WILL BUY THE **** OUT OF THIS PERSONAAAAAAAA

  • Dual Audio / Free or Paid Jap Audio DLC please?

Will the game provide an option to disable the voice? (like P4 Golden).
I would also pay for P4 Golden Japanese voice dlc, Didn’t get the full experience of P4 golden without the original voice overs. lol

Every game is different. Every customer has their own unique preferences. Some prefer not to read text while playing (Dub) while others prefer the voice to be in their original voice overs. So, we just wish to have the choice to do that.

  • Loved Persona 3 and 4!
I’ve been suffering the uncertainty of the release date.
But now, yet it feels a little far away, I rest assured I’ll be enjoying the game on february. Thanks for the info!

  • Take you heart, it’s more like Shut up and Take my Money!! Just preordered the special edition after their E3 event. The game looks amazing I’m so pumped up for this. Hype!!!!
