Rise of the Tomb Raider: 20 Year Celebration Revealed on PS4

Hi everyone! We just announced that Rise of the Tomb Raider: 20 Year Celebration will launch on PS4 October 11. We’re thrilled to share this news with you.

When we were planning the PS4 version of Rise of the Tomb Raider, our very first imperative was to outdo anything we’d done before, such as our definitive editions. A mere “Game of the Year” wouldn’t satisfy us, or our fans. We knew that our PlayStation community both deserved and demanded more than that. So we’re working with our long-time partner Nixxes Software to make this version truly special.

First, whenever we ask you what DLC you’re interested in, “new story” is number one on the wish list. Talking it over with our Franchise Creative Director, Noah Hughes, he immediately turned to a franchise favorite: Croft Manor.

While shown previously only in cutscenes in the campaign of Rise of the Tomb Raider, the Manor represents more than just a place. It is Lara’s legacy. It’s an incredibly important part of her story and the franchise, and like many of you we have fond memories of it from the classic games. So we’re excited to introduce the all-new “Blood Ties” chapter, which will let you explore Croft Manor and unlock its mysteries in a new story mode, then defend it against an undead invasion in “Lara’s Nightmare.”

The Manor also offered a great opportunity for us to investigate the possibilities with cutting edge VR technology. So for the first time in franchise history, you’ll be able to play “Blood Ties” in first-person through Lara’s eyes!

Next, we’re adding a new online co-op expansion to Endurance mode. You and a friend can team up to raid tombs and battle for the longest survival run to stay at the top of the leaderboards.

To celebrate Tomb Raider releases through the years, you can outfit Lara with a re-envisioned version of the cold-weather outfit and the Hailstorm pistol that was featured in Tomb Raider III. In addition, a special card pack will allow you to replay the main story with five classic Lara models. You won’t believe your eyes when you see the original low-poly Lara model in glorious high fidelity Rise of the Tomb Raider cutscenes.

For our hardcore fans, we’ve added a brutal new “Extreme Survivor” setting, which increases the difficulty and strips out all of the checkpoints. The only way to save your game is to forage enough resources to light campfires and survive from one to the next!

Finally, along with Endurance mode, all previously released DLC will be included, such as the three hour story addition Baba Yaga: The Temple of the Witch, and the Cold Darkness Awakened pack which forces you to combat waves of infected predators. Not to mention all of the outfits, all of the weapons, and a ton of Expedition Cards. You receive everything in one package!

We can’t think of a better way to celebrate with all Tomb Raider fans, and to thank you for being on Lara’s 20 year journey with us. We’re excited to share more details on the new content in the coming months as we gear up for the launch of Rise of the Tomb Raider: 20 Year Celebration on October 11!

See you online in Endurance mode!

  • Absolutely sick of all this whining and moaning, it really is pathetic. I for one absolutely cannot wait for this, I’ve been a huge TR fan since I was little and cannot wait for this awesome package to arrive on PS4. We have some amazing exclusives, Xbox don’t.. They deserved to have this to themselves for a year, now it’s our time. Stop belly aching and get your hiking boots on, we’re going for a ride and I cannot wait!

  • Thanks but no thanks. I’ll get it as a rental or used and I really liked the first reboot.
I would rather buy another copy of The Witcher 3 GOTY full price as a gift for friends / family or one of the new games released at the same time.
Gamers have a lot of choice now, and I choose to treat game developers and publishers as they treat me. CD Projekt Red earned almost 4 times the amount of money I usually spent on a full price new game, and it’s not because of gimmicky ad-ons or some silly “special edition”. Although their DLC special edition Gwent cards are awesome, which I also bought gladly.
Brand loyalty and good customer relationship at work. You guys might want to look it up.

  • who would play as low polygon lara while every other elements of the game remains detailed and realistic? why can’t they just make an classic outfit?

    • By adding that outfit they might trigger some specific group of people that they don’t want to “offend”.
Even game characters clothing seems offensive to some people, believe it or not.

  • I feel like this is a dilemma for me.
On one hand, I love what they’ve done with the reboot series and I want to support the developers so they can continue to make TR games in the future. Yet the idiots who were in charge decided it would be best to hold a middle finger to its core Playstation fanbase and let us stew for a year in exchange for a one-off cheque from Microsoft.

I’m sure the artists and creators poured their hearts into this game only to have the dumb executives make stupid deals like this and ruin it for everyone. Heck, they even flubbed the release date here in the UK so bad (clashing with Fallout 4) that they barely sold any copies as it is.

I don’t think this kind of relationship with gamers is really a good direction, leading people around by the nose, deciding when and what we can play on their terms as long as they think it will net them more £$£. Whatever I decide, I want them to hear our grievances and take that into account in the future. They should remember that it’s the fans who support their sorry butts.

  • saw on youtube. ps4 version not much different from xbox. ps4 version is locked 30 fps. no way i pay $60 for a bad port. i will wait til it drop to $20-30

    • to all TR fan. square enix and CD dont really see you or treat you as fan. they spited on you and into microsoft money bed. after 1 year, they want $60 for a bad port locked in 30 fps.

  • All I want is 60 FPS. I honestly don’t care at all about 1080p or 900p. 720p is beautiful. Just give me a high framerate, please. I’ve seen the difference and it’s night/day.

  • i have been waiting for this for like forever and i have the first one for Playstation 4… the Definition Edition and let me just say that i hope you guys continue making Tomb Raider games because i have every single one…. Rise of the Tomb Raider, you better bet i will get that one because the screen shots look so real and i bet it’s going to be a lot more fun to play the game once i get the game….

  • Glad to see that this is coming to PS4 now that the hype for Uncharted has died down.

  • Any diehard fan of Tomb Raider already played this on the Xbox One or PC. I wanted to play this game on PS4 when it was announced, cause there were not much game out then for PS4. I really hate the timed exclusive deal. Now, I just want to spite them. May be I will play it, but will not pay full price, will but it used. If I waited a year for this game, I can wait until this is dirt cheap.

  • Its a shame they didn’t at least put some sexy outfits from previous TR games in this. That TR1 low poly skin is ****, it would’ve been better to take THAT outfit and put it on the new Lara. Crystal Dynamics really lost their mind by giving Lara all those manly looking clothes.
