Cool. This is the 2nd time Yakuza 5 is up for free for Playstation. Plus members for three Playstation 3 Console.

(Note: Mature Audiences also Japanese Voice with English Subtitles)

This is a niche Japanese Action hybrid RPG with a final fight style action gameplay combined with Drama. Very Japanese cultured and if you do not mind watching long voice acting, the game will immerse you into the Japanese crime world.

Also this game pushes all the Playstation 3’s graphical power to its maximum processing. It’s like Grand Theft auto but not. Mature Content and Parental Discretion strongly advised for players younger than 17.

    • Are you sure? I’m 90% positive the yakuza 4 was the last yakuza game to be up on PS+, 5 has never been free if I recall correctly

  • Each month, I check out the PS PLUS new list of games and just smile….my decision not to re-new my membership last year is still looking good.

    • Well I’m happy for you then.

And every month, when I save money on game sales and even some new releases because I have PS+, my decision to buy several years of subs in advance when they were on sale is paying off for me in spades, to the point where I’m not even bothered if the extra benefits of PS+ don’t interest me, because I have so many games to play. It’s almost a relief.

Hopefully we can both continue to enjoy our decisions.

  • AvoidTalkingMice

Rebel Galaxy is pretty great. Do is Patapon. Would be nice to get more than PSP games but the other one is an actual Vita game. So there is that.

  • Meh, terrible line up as usual…. glad I didn’t renew my sub

  • This has to be the worst month of the last 3 years I have had plus. What a joke.

    • You’ve played all 6 of these games?

    • Maybe you like being fed crap games. But I don’t. Rather have PS1/2 classics than this rubbish

    • I wouldn’t know if they are crap, i haven’t played them yet. I reserve judgement until i play the games. I’ll admit, not all of the games they offered in the past were good to me, but there were plenty i never heard of or never played that i ended up really liking.

  • It’s a shame!

  • Ouch. No. Could this get any worse? Seriously?

  • i think its time to get rid of the PS3 / PS Vita games hitting PS+. or at least axe one PS3 game and one PS Vita game. add in either PS4 games, PS2 classics(onPS4), or some PSnow games/time

    • I don’t mind the ps3/vita games at all. I would love to even have some ps1 classics given out that I could play on my vita. Rather those than the shovelware they are giving us this month.

  • Uhhh… Now, that’s BAD!

  • Well not all that yeeeh for this month. But as anyone seen those summer deallllllssss!!!!!

  • on xbox its only 2 new gen games same as Ps4 but Sony also give out Psvita games that brings up the price of the stuff they give out but still sell Psplus cheaper then xbox. to be honest Sony is doing everything better ands whats even better you dont need psplus on ps3 or vita but on xbox 360 you do. microsoft is just begging for money with a whole lot less stuff on offer then Sony. so stop whinning and be greatfull that sony are giving you heaps and have better services and give you more new games then xbox aswell and they are supporting the indie devs with letring people try their games and giving them a try then letting them just be pushed a side and forgot about without getting the indies a chance. and that is exactly what sony is trying to do then getting Xbox to pay more to the greedy big name devs that dont deserve that much money when smaller devs that are struggling getting sony to help them survive. i appreciate Sony and what they are doing and this justifies the #Ps4theplayers. sony You made an enjoyable E3 conference and made everything to doing with games and should be awarded with The publisher/game distributor of the Century. and i salute you.

Reply to this and ill applaud you

    • Sorry if some stuff doesnt make sense i needed to copy and shorten the whole paragraph from my Youtube post (dr4gonkiller96) which was on the this youtube video that you posted earlier

    • I think everyone who complains about usually well received indies because they aren’t games that are $40+ AAA titles are either trolling or delusional. It’s like buying a $1 dollar lottery ticket and being upset when you win $20 dollars because it wasn’t a billion dollar jackpot. I have loved having my playstion plus and my only complaints are when imo the vita indies just feel like lazy mobile titles (such as Whoah Dave). But when we get games like hohokum, Unfinished Swan, Rouge Legacy, Binding of Issac, Freedom Wars, Duke Nukhem 3d etc, I feel like it’s hard to stay upset.

  • Looking forward to Rogue Galaxy and Tricky Towers. Heard good things about Patapon and Ultratron, too.

    • did you know that the fact that you wrote rogue galaxy instead of rebel galaxy makes this page appear when I google rogue galaxy? xd I got hyped because I thougth for a moment that rogue galaxy was going to be a ps+ game :(

  • A new Patapon or a new Locoroco would make me buy a Vita again (mine is broken). PLEASE SONY!

  • Come on please bring some good games for PS Plus even last month we got Indie game’s.

    • News flash: indie games can be good. Sometimes even better than AAA games.

    • New Flash. They can’t be good. Go ride sonys knob more

    • News flash. A high budget game does not automatically make it any good or fun. Don’t be fooled. Indie games CAN be really awesome. You just need to take a leap of faith. ;)

    • They aren’t willing to take a leap of faith. And because of that, they might end up missing out on something good.

    • I have tried every free game we got for the last 3 years and the only indies I liked was Never Alone, Dust and Trine. The rest I couldnt stand.

    • So gamers just have a very specific taste, I suppose.

    • ^ “New Flash. (typo btw) They can’t be good.” Followed by “….the only indies I liked was…” (again another typo).
Something seems a little bit contradictory with your two statements. Also they are completely close-minded but I don’t feel like picking that fight.

  • Wait, you mean it’s not Uncharted 4 and No Man’s Sky? That’s it, time to cancel my subscription right away, no matter how many months I have left. I’m tired of being entitled to a great line up. XD

  • If you want triple a that much then buy them im looking forward to trying these indies in between playing triple a games that iv bought

  • Considering there are so many Vita titles that could be used within the PS+ collection, I fail to understand why we are repeatedly getting PSP games. Does Sony not support the Vita anymore?

I notice that we are starting to get repetitions of games too that have previously been part of the PS+ collection (Retro/Grade was given to EU PS+ August 2012) I seriously urge Sony to reconsider this one, maybe offer something different that isn’t so much of an insult to long term PS+ subscribers.

Usually I find something positive to say about PS+ and there is usually something I find to play – Rebel Galaxy might have been that game, but with No Man’s Sky being released, I would rather play that over Rebel Galaxy.

For a while now the selection of games offered has been lackluster and I urge Sony to reconsider the model that they are using. I feel that scaling back the IGC games to 2 PS4 titles, 1 PS3 title and 1 PS Vita title would enable you to offer more quality content to subscribers.

    • Okay, but if EU got something that NA didn’t, then it’s fair to give it to NA later. That’s why everyone was hyping The Evil Within last month since Japan got it.

    • We’re getting PSP games on the Vita lately because Vita owners begged for them over the last 18-24 months. When all they were getting were indies, they started begging “At LEAST give us PSP games!”
And now we’re getting them. And now other people are complaining about getting PSP games…
      Sony LITERALLY cannot please everyone.

  • Come on please bring some good games for PS Plus even last month we got Indie game’s.Plz. give us some games other than Indie titles, some games like Uncharted 4 would be really appreciated.

    • Yes, Sony I am giving you $4 a month, please give me your $60 exclusive that was recently released and is one of your biggest franchises, and received great reviews. It doesn’t deserve more the $4 and you owe it to us! I agree with saif45678!

  • I haven’t really touched my Playstation much at all since Battleborn and Overwatch came out (Got those on PC). My PS subscription ran out and I see they still give no incentive to pay for such a thing. The more I check PS news the more I see it is truly inferior. Thanks Sony for ignoring my suggestions over the years. Who knows if or when I’ll bother signing back in here.

    • This blog aside, that means I don’t have to come across you online, whilst on my PS4! :D

    • Yes how dare you! You expect that giving us discounts on the PS store, 6 games a month, and access online is worth less monthly then the cost of a McDonald’s meal is a good deal? The nerve! Sony is the anti-christ, they hate all of us and just want to spread misery throughout the world!

  • For the first time in a long time, i don’t own any of the games being offered. I’m excited about that. I’m optimistic and hopefully i end up enjoying a couple of the games.

  • Nice month. All games have decent reviews. Been on the fence about Rebel Galaxy and Retro/Grade, Yakuza 5 looks amazing, and Patapon 3 is a game in a great series I missed.

Not a top-tier month, but still good stuff!

  • I want to personally thank the ps plus team for making the decision of not renovating my ps plus subscription so easy. I had my doubts but the ps4 august lineup cleared every single one of them. I feel…conned.

    SHAME…SHAME…SHAME…SHAME…SHAME….

  • Next month, we get a Rubik’s cube & virtual toc-tac-toe.

  • Lame and pathetic. As long Sony is first in sales and/or the user base of PS+ doesn’t drop dramatically, they’ll be giving away indie crap.

  • Another terrible month and as usual Sony can’t be bothered to address the criticisms. Instead, they just pick a couple positive replies and call it a day.

Well you know what? Even if you released all PS1 titles, there’ll be some people who say it’s a good lineup. Some people are just so enamoured with Sony that literally nothing could dissuade them.

I remember back when we were given good decent games. There was always at least one AAA title. And no, a sports game doesn’t count when you know that right off the bat a large portion of subscribers don’t care about sports titles.

How about bringing back some decent titles? Give us a few GOTY titles. Even Knack or Killzone would be better than what’s rolling out lately. I’m not saying no indies, but give us some games we’ve heard of too. There has to be a balance.

    • I remember last month when people were loving the line up. Even the month with NBA. And you mean you didn’t pick up Knack or Killzone SF a little while ago when they were only $4? That’s dirt cheap; cheaper than buying a fast food combo. What stopped you then? You just wanted it for free from a line up?

    • I noticed that too, Sony only tend to respond to the people giving positive comments rather than people giving constructive criticisms and suggestions on how PS+ can be improved (like dropping the content down to 2 PS4 games, 1 PS3 game and 1 Vita game)

Even a two tier pricing structure for people who don’t care about the games and just want online gaming and cloud storage would be better than this.

    • @ZenFear I’ve had those games since launch. My point is those have never been offered up as free titles, but they’re examples of games that would have been offered in the past.

    • Ah, gotcha. I got a physical version of Killzone for $14.99, but I wouldn’t mind Knack on the line up lol.

  • I personally don’t like the line up but they all can’t be great every month.

    • Thank you for posting your personal opinion, and not spewing about how games that get reviewed well are objectively bad games, and think their opinion is reflective of everybody. I for one do not think Tricky Towers looks appealing and would have rather not have had another PSP game but I know Patapon is a supposedly amazing series and am willing to give it a shot and will just play the ones I am interested in. Though I probably would be more disappointed if none of them seemed even worth a shot to me.

  • I don’t know what playastation is doing they just stated releasing good games games for ps plus and now we are back to this. The second I saw the games I knew it was going to be another terrible month for plus owners while Xbox gets more triple a games even though I probably wouldn’t download them it’s better than this.

    • But it is ultimately about the games you DO download. Besides, just give them a try. You may actually enjoy them.

    • Again the reviews for these games in general are good which means, to most people they are considered ‘good’. If you only like graphics, that’s fine, it’s up to you what you choose to play. However, saying “another terrible month for plus owners” is honestly just a bit pretentious. That statement is under the assumption that everybody only cares about graphics, when I can guarantee you that is not the case. There are indies that are just as revolutionary, long, and fun (depending on your taste) as AAA games. There are also bad AAA games, such as The Order, Evolve, Homefront: The Revoltion, Godzilla etc. Those are games that are widely accepted to be poorly executed, so while one can make a case for them, I can feel confident in calling them from an accepted critical stand ‘bad’ games.

  • Nice to have Rebel Galaxy, though I just bought it on Steam a couple of weeks ago :/

  • One of the worst plus line ups in history. Damn.

  • Thanks so much for putting rebel galaxy in the ps+ lineup! Also looking forward to yakuza 5 and the vita offerings as well!

  • Yakuza 5 is very welcome… I’ll need to free up some space though on the PS3, not running a 2TB drive in that one. I’ll try the PS4 titles though not expecting too much since neither is really in a genre I care for.

  • Awe man im doneeven xbox gives better games.

  • You might as well start calling it the “Instant Garbage Collection”. Sony are obviously just fufilling the bare minimum of their obligation at this point. Shame that games with gold consistently makes a joke out of the IGC now smh. Not cool, SONY. Not cool.

    • Nope, neither of them are consistent. Did you buy your system(s) based on the subscription model, or for the software that you can actually use?

    • TIL YunGFLASHyy thinks well received games are “garbage”….. This seems a bit funny to me because the games basically all have at least a 3/5 or above yet the Mets are in third of the five teams in their division. I suppose you like a garbage team then?

  • Talk about scraping the bottom of the barrel… Yikes @ this month’s games.

  • I am really starting to believe every positive comment on these blogs about PSN IGC games are from people getting paid from Sony… THE GAMES REALLY SUCK! PERIOD!

    • You’ve played them all? Cool!

    • Oh no!!! He is catching on to our plans!! The Sony and the Illuminati pay us to like games!!! They also hack into review sites and Metacritic to boost reviews, because hard2break87 knows the facts! THE GAMES REALLY SUCK! PERIOD!

    • No, the positive comments are from people who were born before the year 2000, who work and earn enough money to buy the games they want to play, or who understand concepts such as “value”.
The negative comments are from people with no jobs/money, don’t understand the concept of “value” and expect to get everything they want for $50 a year regardless of what others might enjoy, or are too young to realize how entitled they are. PERIOD.

  • first i thought it was rogue galaxy free for ps4 but then i realize this its not the case, horrible since ps plus its required for online multiplayer, nothing have been good, in fact the game selection its worse than before, the online service its still the same laggy experience, with inconsistent download speed from ps store.

for ps3 owners with free online they get better games, since my ps3 broke and its out of warranty i cant enjoy any of those ps3 catalog and because you guys didnt add backward compatibility for ps4 its just not worth anything for a ps4 gamer.

Please sony make ps plus great again… backward compatibility its needed look how microsoft and xbox its doing they are really doing stuff “for the gamers”.

  • Ever since I bought a PS4 last year, I did not see one AAA game for the system. PS3 had Bioshock Infinite, Uncharted 3 and several others. Why pay $50 a year for a bunch of indie games? Don’t get me wrong, I play a lot of indie, but there has been a definite decline in the games offered here. I will not renew my ps plus subscription to get $10 worth games every month.

    • You didn’t see Tropico 5, NBA 2K16, Saints Row: Gat Outta Hell, The Walking Dead S2, Zombi, King’s Quest Chapter 1 or even Magicka 2 on PS4? Pretty sure all of those are considered AAA. Besides, you’re paying for the online, the games are bonus. But if you believe the games are not free, calculate the monetary value of each game in your year and see how much it eclipses the price for PS+.

    • “$10 worth games every month”…… I’m sorry was that supposed to be an accurate number of the total? Because let us look at the current prices on the PS Store: Rebel Galaxy= 19.99 Yakuza 5= 39.99 Retro/Grade= 9.99 Ultratron= 9.99 Patapon 3= 14.99 Tricky Towers= not yet released.
So if my math is correct (it is, don’t worry I used a calculator) that adds up to $94.95, and thats missing one of the games. That is double what you pay for one year of PS+ and ten times your number listed. If you are going to add professional criticism about the games and their flaws, or state that they do not appeal to you, then go right ahead. But you ruin your credibility with uneducated statements that you spit out as gospel.

    • Wait, wait, wait… you’re not willing to renew your subscription to get $10 worth of games every month? A subscription that costs less than $5 a month? And gives other benefits like being able to play online, getting early access to betas and free packs for a bunch of different games, as well as discounts on new releases and deeper discounts during sales? Though that last one obviously requires people to spend money, which they don’t seem capable of doing…
You know what, that’s fine. Don’t resubscribe. If PS+ loses tons of members en masse, then less people will get free games and those who stay on are more likely to get better games, since publishers won’t be losing as many potential sales. This is better for us and for you. Please, PLEASE, don’t resubscribe!

  • I’m actually really hyped to play yakuza 5. I was waiting for a sale but didn’t expect this!

  • Ok, so you all people want “DIsc Games”? I suppose you would be all happy if all of these games had a disc format, right? How simple minded can you be? There are many great games out there that you refuse to play just because they’re indie/small games. A game can be good on its own no matter its origin.

Oh, and “if something is not of your liking”, make sure of it. I mean, you could try a new game from now and then be surprised by how much you liked it. They’re “free” after all.

    • @AlicaDarky It’s not that the games are not available in the disc format, it’s that the games themselves are not that interesting. Indie games on the other hand (although I have nothing against them since some of them are, to me, okay at best), they’re just not interested in what are basically mediocre cheap knockoffs of AAA games or games from the 80s/90s (which are, unfortunately, 90% of indie games on the PS4).

    • @AliciaDarky I’m sorry to say it but gameman15 is correct. Indie games are “okay at best”, they are mostly “mediocre cheap knockoffs”. How dare a few people who aren’t part of a billion dollar company feel like they can make a great game. If you want innovation you need to look at triple A games! COD 10, and Assassin’s Creed 8, and NFL 16 are doing things that have never been done before. They are completely new and unique and beautiful experiences with every sequel. Look at the indies! The Witness just rips off of Farcry, there is nothing new about it! SOMA?? Don’t make me laugh, thats basically Arkham knight with 80’s graphics. Rouge Legacy? They could have just called it the poor man’s Skyrim.

  • Yet another disappointing month for us PS Plus subscribers. I was hoping for some good games as rumored, but what he got instead are those.

    Tricky Towers: Poor man’s Tetris.
Rebel Galaxy: Okay, but I have no interest.
Yakuza 5: Never played any of the Yakuza games, nor do I have interest in the series. I understand that it has a huge fanbase, but to me, it’s just Grand Theft Auto for Japanese gamers.
Retro/Grade: I would love to try out this game (because of my love for retro games) until I found out it was a rhythm games (a genre I’ve lost interest in).
Patapon 3: I’ve only played like a little bit of the first one, and (sorry to say it, but) I’m not really into it.
    Ultratron: Looks promising enough.

  • What a joke….PS plust USE to be good..USE to be worth it..Now…not so much…This is pathetic…

    • “Ps plust USE” “USE to be worth”…. You seem likely a highly educated man, I should listen to your masterfully crafted argument. Wait did you spell pathetic correctly? I am actually impressed, I apologize for my previous demeaning tone.

  • yikes…

  • I have to say I am happy about this months games. I am always happy to try something new or something I missed. I own all 3 platforms (and still rock my PSP go as well) and I also own an Xbone. I am only happy with 1 of their games this month (the samurai game), screw WWE and while Beyond Good and Evil is good, I already own it. The PS lineup could be great, happy to finally try Ultratron and Patapon 3. Yakuza 5 looks fun too. I may not like Rebel Galaxy, but I will give it a shot. Puzzle games can be fun too.

  • While I love PS Plus it’s getting mildly irritating when all we get are games like this. Thank god we only pay $50 a year. I love free games don’t get me wrong. Feel free to respond to this but I don’t even look after I post this so……..

  • Thought from the moment we got Tropico 5 everything will keep improving, but boy I was wrong. I will give it a try but I don’t see myself play those ps4 games.

  • Things I can count on: death, taxes and the whiny babies complaining about PS+ games every month.

Looking forward to trying both these games on PS4!

  • And my earlier comment got deleted oh well just more censorship by sony. Anyways just looking over the four games i dont care about the vita games. Tricky Towers looks ok (68 on metacritic) highest score i saw was a 8.0 by PlayStation Universe. Rebel Galaxy looks meh but it will be the poor mans No Mans Sky but less boring.

And for the ones leaving PlayStation for Xbox see you all back here next month. Because the ones that say they’re leaving never leave lol.

  • I’ve wanted to play Yakuza 5 for a long time now. But the fact that they are not making it available for both PS4 (psnow) and PS3 is really disappointing. I’m not buying another PS3 just for one game. Sad.

  • I’m excited about Patapon 3. Absolutely LOVED the first one, which I got for a buck (I think) along with LocoRoco during a sale…

    • It looks like it could be a ton of fun, I have been wanting to get all 3 physically for awhile now but have yet to get around to it. I may hold off on playing 3 till I have gone back and played the first two.

  • Well these games don’t look like my cup of tea but I’m still enjoying Furi so i guess i can’t complain.
