Update: Starting on September 22, 2016, prices for PlayStation Plus memberships will change to $59.99 USD/ $69.99 CAD for twelve months and $24.99 USD/$29.99 CAD for three months. The monthly plan will change to $11.99 CAD in Canada, and remain $9.99 USD in the U.S. If you are a current member, the new prices will take effect if your membership renews on or after this date.

We’re happy to share the free PS4 games for PS Plus members this August! This month we look to satisfy your inner space pirate, and let you battle it out with friends in a frenzied tower builder.

First up is Tricky Towers, a new title from WeirdBeard Games. Tricky Towers is a physics-based puzzler that’s at its best when you’re competing against friends. With local and online multiplayer for two to four players, the game shines as you race to stack your tower while casting spells to disrupt your opponents. The gameplay is fast, fun, and addictive, as you’ll find yourself coming back for more. So gather your friends or join them online and enjoy the mayhem of Tricky Towers.

Next up is Rebel Galaxy. Suit up and take command in this space combat RPG from developer Double Damage. Take the helm of a massive destroyer as you make your reputation through trade, by being a work-for-hire mercenary or a swashbuckling pirate. In a procedurally generated universe, no two star systems are the same and there’s always something new to discover. So take the helm, prepare for battle, and have a blast with Rebel Galaxy.

    Not surprising really.
    especially with a high profile console exclusive ( No Man’s Sky) hitting the shelves this month
    there was 0% chance of a AAA title on Plus this month.

    I’m waiting for No Mans Sky and Star Trek Online. Rebel Galaxy is the only game here that’s peaked my interest. I love space :3
    I’m more interested in the weekly deals tbh. This past week sort of was lackluster…
    Patapon is a fun game, but if psp games are going to be a PSVita choice, how about throwing some ps1 titles into the mix?

    -the way I look at it is I hope to get atleast 1 game I can play outta PlayStation Plus +/or Xbox Live Gold…
    –As usual= I don’t pretend to be a playstation(or xbox employee or stock holder) just a gamer who gets all I can outta gaming..

    -I wanted to play Rebel Galaxy but thought it was crap so skipped it..ill try it now..
    -I knopw No Mans Sky is gonna be boring and ill need a Sci Fi fix..

    -Xbox has WWE16. I dunno if I’m willing to play it. wrestling games have been bad since PS3 IMO…
    maybe ill get lucky…

    –The Vita has been such a letdown for me..Cant believe I bought that POS ofr $200, I got the telltale Bundle version. and my daughter even hates it…Ive yet to have 1 homerun on the Vita..I even lost my borderlands2 mega character by a mixup..lol whatevs,,, I wish the Vita mattered more. I haven’t given it away or destroyed it. that means I have hope. atleast mildly.

    I just watch the trailer to Rebel Galaxy. It looks pretty decent. But yeah other than that not much going on this month.
    Funny… Rebel Galaxy is free the same month No Man’s Sky is coming out. Lots of space piracy this month.

    What happened to the days when we got two games for each platform, and what’s with advertising these last few months as having two Vita games? It doesn’t matter if Patapon 3 is good, it’s not a Vita game, and it has always been pushed as two Vita games, which we don’t get. Working on a platform does not make it a game from that platform. Patapon is not a Vita game just by being backward compatible, Bioshock 2 is not a PS4 game just because it plays on PSNow, and Dead Space is not an Xbox One game just because it’s backward compatible.

      I really don’t get this comment. What happened to the days…? When I Look at the list I see at least two games that will play on each of the platforms. And PS does it consistently each month. The whole rant you have going with backwards compatible games makes just as little sense. If a game plays on the Vita then you got a game that you can play on the VIta, PS+ delivered.

      BTW. PS+ does not advertise having two games for each platform every month. The free games are advertised as: “PlayStation Plus expands your gaming horizons with a growing collection of games included with your membership. From action-adventure to shooters, you’ll always have something great to play.”

      Really? A free bonus to being a Plus member? LOL! In that case, every aspect of PS+ in nothing more than a “free bonus” for money we pay on subscriptions to …well, nothing (the exception being PS4 multiplayer, but PS+ and the IGC being used in that manner is only because Sony saw how willing MS customers were to pay for multiplayer). Two of the three supported platforms do not require PS+ for any functionality… so is it a bonus for them, or the sell point? I recall the IGC always being the advertised focal point of why one subscribes to the service. The IGC is a part of a paid subscription, and because it is paid it is not “free.”. Period. BTW, I got a “free” radio as “a bonus” part of my subscription to TIME last year. When I didn’t renew, my access to the radio didn’t all of a sudden cease. Funny how the “free” and “bonus” doesn’t work the same way with PS+.

    If we get Fallout 4 for PS Plus members, I will love Playstation so much. I mean, I already do but it’s just my dream to play Fallout 4. I do not have the money to go out and buy it. Please, Playstation. At least show me you’re putting this to thought.

      Sony won’t offer an AAA game that is still relevant and played by many and still rolling out seasonal DLC. The only AAA they have EVER offered is God of War 3 remastered, which I already own on disc and played when it came out on the PS3….

    FUN TIP: You can easily tell who the freeloader are just by reading the comments lol. The freeloaders are the ONLY ones complaining like they only pay for ps plus for the FREE games each month. PS plus could completely stop the FREE games each month and Id still be happy paying my 50$ a year.

    Seriously playstation?????? I have had a playstation since the original and every now and again swapped to an xbox. But seriously guys the ps 4 is the best console out there and we pay so much for it. In South africa it costs R750 a year to be on ps plus……Atleast make it worth my while to be on psn as that amount of money could have gotten star wars or something epic to play…..Instead we are subjected to indie games and im not happy about it. Why cant you give out decent games for the ps 4. I didnt pay 7k for a console to play indie games on!!!! I can do that on my phone!!! Please pull up your socks playstation. My birthday is in november. If we can have great games coming to the psn from now that would be great. Why not have 2 good ps4 titles and 1 or 2 indy games and some decent ps 4. dont get me wrong yakuza is rad but i mean the other games are very lackluster.

    We love Playstation and have supported you even after you got hacked. Please show us the respect we deserve for putting your company at the forefront of the console world.

    If you ask me the whole console experience is a big let down. Third console I buy cause of damned exclusive titles and its pretty much it. I own exactly 1 game on my ps4 and its bloodborne. Decided to buy PSPlus to minimize losses, no go there either. Thank you consoles for once more showing the obvious point: PC Elite all the way.

    Super psyched for rebel galaxy. get a week of space adventuring before NMS comes out. not sure what everyone is so upset about. I’ve gotten legitimate mileage out of the PS Plus games. some months are better than others (for me), sure. but then again there are millions of PS Plus members so I doubt everyone is going to be psyched every single month.

    The PS3 seems to always make out better than the PS4 when it comes to Plus free games for every month. It gets frustrating when the majority of the games offered for the PS4 are games that the majority seem to voice they have bought quite some time ago. The only free plus games that truly made being a plus member worth while where Broforce, Sound Shape, Rocket League, and Tropico 5. The majority of indie games that are offered have been games I’ve already purchased and are already on my PS4 HD…the Xbox 1 isn’t my counsel of choice, but Microsoft seems to offer more bang for your buck when it comes online subscription and in regards to free games and seem to listen to their community when it comes to ideas of what people would like to see.

    Funny how some people including PlayStation staff think this is a good lineup. Every month it’s a bunch of garbage or games everyone already has because of psn sales. some games aren’t worth it, even being free, if they aren’t worth your time. And the ps3 games and vita games don’t matter if you don’t own the ps3 or vita. At least xbox one is backwards compatible and allows the free 360 games to be played on the one. And xbox gets warriors orochi 3, wwe 2k16, spelunky, beyond good and evil HD. I’m no fanboy, as a matter of fact I don’t own an Xbox one because i sold it and I’m waiting for the scorpio, I just wish PlayStation would be more competitive with the ps plus lineup considering how good xbox games with gold lineup’s consistently are and with all being playable on the one. DISAPPOINTED.

    This month isn’t as bad as some previous ones have been. I’m really excited for Yakuza and Patapon, and Retro;Grade isn’t a bad choice either.
    But if I could offer two criticisms…
    1. Can we see more variety in genres? It seems like every month PS4 gets an indie puzzle game or some space shooter. Neither of these interest me very much. I’m not even asking for big AAA releases, just something besides a puzzle game and a space shooter. Something with more substance for a single player, y’know?
    2. Can we actually have Vita games be free instead of PSP games? I know Oreshika was up a while ago and that’s great, but I wish it would happen more often. The Vita has a great library, can we please see it represented with PS+?
    If you could take these concerns into consideration, it would be very appreciated.

    I don’t hate psn games ok , but we should get some of the good ones sometimes. There’s shovel knight, spunky, outlast, bastion, telsagrad, telltales, a couple banner saga, Journey, limbo. All these games are better psn games than we ever get.

      What if I were to tell you that next month could be so much worse than this? If you thought these games are bad, well just wait till later in your PS Plus subs or maybe next month. I believe at some point, we will get a month where the only retail/”A” game is a PSP title, and all other games are indies.

    I dont usually post anymore since any post gets lost in all the whining and begging. Seriously if you cant afford games dont own a console. Just wanted to say, awsome month due to rebel galaxy. I have had this one in my cart several times but have not pulled the trigger because of a massive backlog. $20 value of the $30 i paid for this years plus, nice.

      Its not about being able to afford a service or not, is about evaluating whether the service is worth its price. Are this two games worth 3 dolars each? They are not. “oh but other people may think they are”, indeed, other people may like playing with turds for all I care, I am not posting other people’s opinions, I am posting mine. Last game I downloaded for “free” at psplus was Drive Club. It was the only one too. 16 months paying for the service to get one game, doesn’t look free to me. And not even a complete game for that matter. “Oh but theres also the special discounts” yeah and I did use it once to get walking dead. Saved me like 10 bucks. Botton line, right now the evaluation of the service doesnt look too good. I still have 6 months of subscription and will reavaluate by the end of this six months.

      I never made any comment about affording a service, i made a comment about people begging for free games since they cannot afford games. How can you say something is a turd if you have never tried any of the games. You are paying for the service for the free games and you never download the games and try them, oh sorry you said you also pay for the service for the discounts, yet you have only purchased one game at a discount. Smart fellow you are. And honestly could not care less if you have to evaluate getting the service.

    Ouch! Looks like August ’16 is gonna be a rough month for me and my gaming tastes. Oh, and if I need yet ANOTHER reason to kick myself for selling my PS3 to my friend shortly after I purchased my PS4… YAKUZA! The series has always been somewhat enigmatic and intriguing to me, and it looks like mysterious and interesting it shall remain!

    I know every release can’t have a Rocket League or NBA 2K16 though, so while I’m admittedly a bit disappointed during months like these, I’m simultaneously excited about what the next couple updates will bring, as primarily-indie-game months almost always precede collections with a big/AAA title!

    Regardless, keep up the great work, Sony! For every vocal whiner in the comments, I guarantee a satisfied gamer—one too busy playing that month’s free games to comment, mind you—exists! Either way, not a single month has passed without a handful of free games enroute to PS+ subscribers, an achievement worthy of commendation.

      Nice to hear the other side of things. Sony probably appreciates these types of comments. But they probably also appreciate the more negative comments as well. The comments allow Sony to understand what their audience wants like any media outlet no matter how repetitive or whinny as they may seem. Sony benefits either way.

    OK I done. I switched from xbox360 to the ps4 because of the initial promising titles. I now am starting to feel ****ed off. PS4 is gaining a significant amount of more profits from their console and because of the this their is no need to add new features to their console. Unlike Xbox which has added cross play between 3 platforms including pc. Xbox is introducing exclusives that are equally as good as the exclusives that the ps4 is recieving. And to top that all off I always look to see the free games with gold to maybe help satisfy my choice but I’m most of the time disappointed. (Dont get me wrong not always. I enjoyed playing broforce, rocket league, broken age , and a handful other indie titles + the AAA titles.) I’m running out of excuses to justify my choice. I want the ps4 to be the better console but I’m running out of excuses to defend Sony and their console. Sony needs to prove it.

    Sorry for the double post, but does anyone know if/when the voting system for one of the next month’s free PS+ games will return?!

    I would LOVE to see the system return and become a more consistent monthly offering, but I absolutely understand that the amount of backend paperwork/licensing required of Sony probably makes it logistically unviable.

    Can someone help me. I’m trying to download Yakuza 5 on my PS3 and ever time I try to download it keeps saying “Not enough storage on your system.” I’ve delete at much storage as I can to get this game and no mater what I do, It still says “Not enough storage on your system.” I’ve check my storage system and I’ve got 34 GB out of 110 GB. So I should have more then enough space. Can someone help me and explain what I can do to get this game?

    I still don’t understand why they don’t give the people the option to play these games on PSNow. What better way to promote PSNow than to give out free games for it. It will also give them the ability to fix their network given that it lags so much and you basically need fiber optic connection to play on it. But it also gives people the option to play PS3 free to play games that don’t want to switch over to the other console.

    I honestly think Kerbal Space Program should’ve been on the list . Considering not many people play it, if you put it for a free game people would give it a chance.
