PlayStation Plus: Free Games for August 2016

Update: Starting on September 22, 2016, prices for PlayStation Plus memberships will change to $59.99 USD/ $69.99 CAD for twelve months and $24.99 USD/$29.99 CAD for three months. The monthly plan will change to $11.99 CAD in Canada, and remain $9.99 USD in the U.S. If you are a current member, the new prices will take effect if your membership renews on or after this date.

PlayStation Plus strives to enrich your PlayStation experience through a world-class service built for our fans. This marks the first time that PS Plus membership prices will increase in the U.S. and Canada since the launch of the service in 2010. The new pricing reflects the current market conditions while enabling us to continue providing exceptional value to our members. As a member, you will continue to enjoy the benefits and features that enable shared experiences, such as online multiplayer, free games, and exclusive discounts. You will also continue to get exclusive benefits such as online game save storage and discounts across the PlayStation digital services.

If you do not wish to continue your subscription, please be sure to cancel it by turning off auto-renewal in your account settings before September 22, 2016.

We’re happy to share the free PS4 games for PS Plus members this August! This month we look to satisfy your inner space pirate, and let you battle it out with friends in a frenzied tower builder.

First up is Tricky Towers, a new title from WeirdBeard Games. Tricky Towers is a physics-based puzzler that’s at its best when you’re competing against friends. With local and online multiplayer for two to four players, the game shines as you race to stack your tower while casting spells to disrupt your opponents. The gameplay is fast, fun, and addictive, as you’ll find yourself coming back for more. So gather your friends or join them online and enjoy the mayhem of Tricky Towers.

Next up is Rebel Galaxy. Suit up and take command in this space combat RPG from developer Double Damage. Take the helm of a massive destroyer as you make your reputation through trade, by being a work-for-hire mercenary or a swashbuckling pirate. In a procedurally generated universe, no two star systems are the same and there’s always something new to discover. So take the helm, prepare for battle, and have a blast with Rebel Galaxy.

Wow, big increase while offering nothing additional. You better step up your “free games” because this is bad. You can play multiplayer for free on PC, and it’s better.

What a joke. $70 now. Will Sony up their download bandwidth speed, increase the PS+ monthly games or will we still get indies that I can buy for $5, fix their servers?.

Does not reflect current market pricing, as digital games have been unaffected by the Canadian dollar’s worth. And that’s all you give out on PS+ now. You don’t give out $80 retail games, even years after they came out.

What a waste of money now. Not that it wasn’t already. Better at least give me a terabyte of cloud storage now.

Not only I am extremely unhappy with the price change – since as many have already pointed out, the Plus catalog has been… well, not up to what it used to be in times of PS3 – but I am also very upset about the fact that Sony didn’t even bother to create a NEW article to announce the change. It is as if they were trying to cover it up, fly it under the radar… This should have it’s own announcement/article and be atop the website – I mean this directly affects your community…

$10 increase for the anual Plus subscription? We get crappy games mostly each month, there are few discounts and most things with good discount are not worth buying. Thanks Sony for making me switch to PC, sell my Vita and leave my PS4 only for exclusives, collecting dust it seems.

What a bunch of absolute garbage. Playstation’s online service is already a joke, with abysmal download and upload speeds compared to what I get on a computer thanks to their hardware, frequent outages, a hindering weekly maintenance, and very crappy free monthly games. And now they want to up the price by another $10? I’m done. I won’t be renewing in December. I would rather give up my beloved Destiny than fuel Sony’s ridiculous greed. From then on it will be strictly offline games, and this will be my last console generation and absolutely my last Sony console. Charging people to play their console online is bad enough. Charging people at an increased rate while offering NO extra benefits is as bad as it can get.

For 60 bucks I would expect better quality games and a bit more cloud storage, something to justify the price change.

Well it looks like I will be cancelling my subscription to PS+. It isn’t even the fact that the free games are lame,but it is that I never felt like I was getting enough benefit out of my subscription; and now I know I am not.

Ughhh well that sucks.Im sorry but if i could only pay for multiplayer online at a discounted price and avoid the digital games that are free i would be happy.Probably 2 games out of whole year i would enjoy but majority of the games are as*.The service hasnt gotten better or worse so why am i paying more?

As long time fan of PlayStation sense PSone to now I’m bit shock. $50 for PS Plus Membership was good but now it’s going up to $60. If the prices are going up to $60 then i hope to see great things coming out of this price increasing then.

1. PSN Security needs to be 100 times better then what it is now. (why this is number 1? Then better games is because security is better pick to safeguard are psn accounts and the PSN Network from down time).

2. PlayStation Network for PS3, PS Vita, and PS4 are good but wish the caps limit would be increase to allow better performance when gaming online, downloading game faster, and seeing PSN get upgrade in hardware/software so performance increase to the servers to handle many gamers who are gaming on PS3, PS Vita, and PS4 platforms at the same time.

3. Better Video Games offer each month for us PS Members who are Anime Fan/Otaku. I would love to see anime games like RPG, Shooter them up, and ect being offer for PS Plus Membership.

Thank You PlayStation but I can’t wait to see the new PS4 Neo, hope system specs are good.

Come on Sony! Please don’t do this. The games we get from Playstation Plus aren’t even that good. Some of them are fun. Honestly I think there should be an option to opt out of the free games which would make the price for playstation plus cheaper. If you wanted the games then it would be more expensive. Ypu guys get enough money from the millions of people who already pay for plus. I like the price the way it is.

This is going to be an unpopular reply, but Is 83 cents a month really a huge issue? Because that’s how much of an increase this is. 83 cents a month.

I agree the lineup of “free” games hasn’t been that great lately, but i’m in it for the online save storage, and multiplayer (on the rare occasion i actually play online). I’m sure a lot of you blow $10 on an indie game every now and then thay you play once or twice and stop caring about. It’s not that big a deal.

And yes, i remember when any amount of money was a big deal for me, and i honestly feel for you if the $10 is prohibitive, but remember, just like the price of this is going up for you, the price of things are going up for everyone, including Sony, and they definitly wouldn’t do this if they didn’t need to. I mean look at the bad response it’s getting.

So, I’m gonna go ahead and assume that with this “justified” price increase we’re gonna stop having to worry about getting hacked, start getting decent games, get download speeds that actually match what we’re paying for, servers will stop crashing, and overall have a better experience with this **** service? You know what they about assuming though. What exactly am I paying for anyway? You can shove these “free games” up your butt. I switched from Xbox for the free multilayer. Since I enjoy that system better, guess I’ll go there or just save money and build a pc. I had plans on buying the neo, but lol. You can argue it’s only $10, but I could argue it’s $60 too much when I already paid for the console and rarely play multilayer, if ever, on servers that aren’t dev/publisher. KTHANXBYE

It’s about time to let my subscription lapse. Don’t like multiplayer and you’ve been giving garbage for the free games. It was awesome when I owned a PS3 but now we get nothing but PSN garbage or an old NBA game that will be irrelevant in a month.

When I decided on whether to go Xbox or PS, one of the main deciding factors was that Sony didnt charge for online play…now we’ve gone from $0 to $50 and now a whoppin $70.

Sony doesn’t have near the library as Xbox…and right now losing its edge on MS. That with the insane titles price tags….going to have to stay with one Console…won’t be Sony

The amount of entitlement and over-valuation of $10 in the update replies is disgusting. The price for the service is now going to be $5/month at the new yearly rate (in the US). Expecting anything other than indies for that price is ridiculous. Getting anything other than indies for that price is amazing. If you don’t already see the value in that, watch out for the door. NO ONE will miss you or your pittance.

  Your “logic” is horribly flawed. Publishers and developers don’t want a *smaller* audience for their titles. Remember when multi-platform games in development were seeing their Wii U versions getting cancelled left and right? That was because the Wii U was (and pretty much still is) doing terribly in the market. Your master plan of making the PS4 “elite” and “exclusive” makes absolutely no sense.

WOW Sony, talk about a dumb way to market and announce a price increase. How you SHOULD have done it:

Waited until September Plus games announcement in which you give away two amazing AAA titles, then announce the price would be going up and these games would be indicative of future offerings.

You need new marketing folks, Sony.
