Overwatch: Celebrate Summer Games with Lucioball

Hi PlayStation gamers. For the next three weeks, you can earn limited-edition Loot Boxes, each containing at least one item from our brand new collection of more than 100 seasonal goodies. And you’ll also be able to challenge your friends on a futuristic soccer field in our new brawl: Lúcioball.

Throughout the course of this event, Loot Boxes are sporting a brand new look, but the packaging isn’t the only thing that’s changed. Inside, players will find new cosmetic items commemorating the Summer Games, including sprays, emotes, highlight intros, player icons, and skins — even a few legendary skins.

Every time you earn a Loot Box (regardless of the mode you’re playing) or purchase one during the event, you’ll receive at least one item from the Summer Games collection. These items cannot be purchased with credits, and they’re heading back into the vault on August 22. So, if you’ve got your eye on that high-diving Roadhog icon, there’s no time to lose.

No Summer Games event would be complete without a display of athletic expertise, which is why we’re unveiling a brand new brawl: Lúcioball! Overwatch’s spin on soccer places you in a fast-paced, 3v3 match featuring Lúcio. Players will hit the field in Rio de Janeiro, punching, bouncing, booping, and wall-riding their way to the goal.

Understanding how Lúcio’s abilities affect the ball is the key to mastering Lúcioball. For this brawl, his primary fire has been replaced with a melee attack, allowing Lúcio to punch the ball — perfect for dribbling, passing, and shooting from short range. When you need to launch the ball across the map, Lúcio’s secondary attack emits a blast of sound that gets the job done nicely.

Unlike other game modes, the speed boost from Lúcio’s song only affects himself (Amp It Up will still increase that boost for Lucio, as it does normally), and Lúcio’s ultimate ability, Sound Barrier, now pulls the ball toward him.

This is our very first seasonal event, but there are more on the horizon. We’re not quite ready to reveal our plans, but you can expect to see more limited-edition Loot Box items, maps, and modes in the future.

Fire up Overwatch and dive in, because Summer Games is live today on PS4. We’ll see you in Rio!

    Let’s break it down!
    Speed boost!

    Looking forward to this.

  • Sweet, now I don’t have to choose between playing Overwatch and Rocket League!

  • earth_inheritor

Comes with lots of additional status ailments. We have now added poisoned water abilities and mugging features.

Or am i mixing that up with Rio?!

  • Sweet can’t wait to get the Zika virus themed skins, or displaced local Lucio, and are you sure that Russia will allow Zarya to attend?

  • Damn this is truly awesome,I love events like these in games. Will Lucioball be available forever in the game or it will be like the themed lootboxes going away in august 22?…I really wish I had Overwatch right now it’ll be a shame to miss on this event and the lootboxes.

    Anyway amazing work Blizzard.

  • I would say that arena looks just like rocket leagues but it doesnt, rocket leagues graphics make this arena look like crap. Be ashamed , be very ashamed.

  • Ummmm what is this? If they are going for a crappy Rocket League, they will have success. Regardless, plagiarized nonsense.

  • This game is so much fun cant believe I didnt play the beta. Have borrowed this from a friend and im in love so far most likely will pick it up once my friend wants it back.

    Overwatch Meets Rocket League Niiicce!

  • thesamuraiman_PS

This is really awesome. Amazing. Lúcio is one of my favorite characters. Love the weekly and now seasonal events. Just kinda sucks that I’m at such a high level that I won’t be getting Loot Boxes as fast. Haha.

  • Rocket League

  • Your game is doing very well, do you REALLY need to blatantly rip off another successful game of a totally different genre to stay relevant? Pretty pathetic. Overwatch is good… be Overwatch not Rocket League.

  • Yeah…making the arena with a dome AND making the 2 sides orange and blue is a very strange idea…it could have look a little more “overwatch” own personality… :/
