Driveclub VR Confirmed for PlayStation VR, Out This Year

While we normally like to keep everyone in the Driveclub community up to speed on any developments, we’ve had to keep this one under the hood… until now. So before Gamescom 2016 kicks-off and you have the chance to get hands on with the game, we’re very proud to officially announce that Driveclub VR is launching in 2016 exclusively on PlayStation VR.

We’ve been working tirelessly on Driveclub VR for more than a year now, to bring you the definitive and most immersive Driveclub experience possible.

We’re passionate about trying to create the most memorable and exhilarating gaming experiences possible, so being given the opportunity to take Driveclub to a more immersive level thanks to VR is really thrilling.

This not only allows players to truly feel the incredible speed, sensation, and precision of driving some of the world’s most exotic high-performance cars, but also the chance to race against or with one another in a completely new way.

  • Game modes: Online virtual reality multiplayer race modes and an action-packed single player career are joined by drifting and time trial challenges.
  • Tracks: New and classic Driveclub tracks are brought to life through the power of PlayStation VR, including five all-new Urban locations.
  • A closer look: More than 80 cars are recreated with immaculate detail for players to explore up close with Inspection Mode.
  • Cruise control: A little time to kick back, open the throttle or just coast and explore any track, in any country at your leisure in Cruise Mode.
  • Virtual passenger: An immersive thrill ride through exciting replays of hot laps as players watch themselves handle their greatest challenges from a unique viewpoint in Passenger Mode.

Be sure to also visit the PlayStation Gamescom booth to get the first hands on with Driveclub VR and check out the incredible new screenshots. Get ready to jump back behind that wheel!

  • “We’ve been working…”

We who? Who is actually developing this?

  • It’s a bit weird to let go Evo but continue their work … Oh well, Codemasters understood at least.

  • Purplestone90

Will we be able to play this in VR with a steering wheel controller aswell?

  • I would love to see a ride-along mode where we can ride as virtual passengers while our friends take the wheel. I love Drive and I am really happy to see it coming to PSVR!

    • This is a great idea! I’m not sure how it would work practically locally, as there is only one display output that both the TV and headset would see (unless the TV image resolution is reduced). But an online player could probably drive you around :-) PassengerClub VR

      You’re wrong buddy.

Best idea ever!! I would LOVE that feature. Some of my friends are really good and it would be nice to enjoy an intense ride in VR !! I hope they read this!

    • This really is a great idea! I expect that spectating is going to be a HUGE part of VR. I remember hearing that RIGS had a spectator mode, allowing you to watch a match as though you were in the stands.

Spectating would make sport-games like Fifa, NBA2K, Madden, or The Show akin to going to a stadium and watching the game! Even competitive fighting games, or FPSs would be amazing to watch as a spectator alone or with a group of friends. In fact this could fundamentally change game-streaming!

But yes, racing games would be sublime, especially when driving along with pro drivers!

  • “…proud to officially announce that Driveclub VR is launching in 2016…”

So is this a separate, standalone release that we will have to buy again even if we have Driveclub, or is this an add-on/DLC for the game?

  • I look forward to trying this whenever I am able to get my hands on PSVR peripherals. Anytime they had pre-orders, they sold out their allotments in any of the places I tried before I got there. I hope Sony is ramping up the peripheral production because these PSVR things will be hard to find and that will get frustrating when all this PSVR supporting software keep rolling out that I want to try.

  • Looking forward to this, any chance of an updated version of the game coming out?

  • BlueBl1zzard

Oh man, I am so looking forward to this!

One thing I have to wonder though is how often do people feel dizzy while/after playing. I remember reading someone’s first impressions with an earlier version of this game, but they said they felt nauseous at certain parts of the game (like elevation changes). I’m assuming you guys have worked on trying to limit stuff like that from happening?

Regardless I’m still picking this up.

    • If they do it right, and you got a Neo that increases the framerate you wont have a problem.

  • I hate driving games!! They are so repetitive. There are so many of these games and theyre “ALL THE SAME”. What? Did you say “VR”? Oh……………MY………………………………GAUD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I want it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Hopefully we will see cruise mode and other features come to the original game as well.

  • I must say, this has me VERY excited! I can hardly wait to play in PSVR, and already there are so many enticing looking titles — truly a great mix for all types of gamers, and with a good number of AAA games like Driveclub VR!

October 13 cannot get here soon enough! I am *so* glad that I pre-ordered when I did! I bet that PSVR is going to be sold out this holiday season, and people are going to be literally fighting each other to get their hands on one!

  • So is this actually be released in 2016 or will it follow the same release schedule as DriveClub Plus Edition? I’m just going to assume the latter.

  • bigmansavagedan

Will this support the g29 wheel and driving force shifter? Going to be so disappointed if not. Driveclub is probably my favorite racing game on ps4 and using the wheel and shifter makes it so much more enjoyable! Please say the support will be there

  • “Out this year.” Does that really mean more like in the year 2022? Just like they pushed back their Playstation Plus edition?

  • Nice to see it officially announced. Loved the OG DriveClub title, haven’t played the Bikes game but in near future wanna try it and also want this VR title.

    What’s the price?

  • This is nice and all but I would like to know who’s in charge of Driveclub…being a huge admirer of the work Evolution made with Driveclub I wanna know the future of the game.Regardless I’m looking forward to experience Driveclub on VR….game already has insane life-like graphics, just imagine seeing all that through VR.

  • It was very nice of Sony to cancel the urban tracks Evolution had promised to release to supporters of the original game, in order to save them for the release of the VR game–by nice, I mean a nice slap in the face. I remember Evolution announcing the urban tracks, and showing screenshots for at least 3 different regions, of which only Scotland was released. Now we know where the other tracks went–“new” tracks for the VR game. I’d love to get DriveClub CR, but unfortunately I won’t be getting PS VR. I would have been very happy to buy a second season pass for DriveClub to get the additional maps and continued support–too bad Sony closed Evolution, instead.

  • I remember being promised Driveclub when the PS4 launched. I will never trust Driveclub again. We just barley got the game late last year.
