I love the idea of PSNOW but the problem is the big data issue it uses just to play. And considering how long it takes to play and finish one game it’s like watching a full marathon of hd movie streaming for one game. Any chance we can just download the game and only requires internet to “register” and stay online to be able to play those psnow game instead of streaming just like how EA does with Plants vs Zombies, etc. Would really attract more people into PSNOW because everyone i know who owns a PS4 only problem with PSNOW is the huge data stream to play any hd game for hours.

    • Unfortunately, “downloading” is not how PS NOW works; it is explicitly a streaming service. While the data prices may be high for some now (they are reasonable for many others), internet data services are getting faster, providing higher bandwidth, and costing less year-over-year, and it will not be long before bandwidth is not a concern for the vast majority. Downloading *could* be an option, but I’m guessing that PS NOW is a long-term bet by Sony, and one that will gain appeal as services continue to get better. After all, notice how the public opinion about the service has evolved since its launch!

    • cypherfromasoul

That is literally impossible. The game code is designed for PlayStation hardware, not for PC, it just won’t run. Also, if you do download it and play that way, you are gonna require graphics card, high RAM and all that things that you need to game on PC. You are essentially asking PSNow to turn into Steam. PSNow is a streaming service only.

    • sealum01, downloading and streaming are the exact same thing. A stream is a download.

    • @favian: Not true, your PC isn’t “processing” the game. From what I understand about PS Now tech, the Game is being processed in a Data Center on a “custom” server/PS3. Your PC is just streaming the game from the server that is actually processing the game.

    • MakaiOokami

      Blong

Actually it probably wouldn’t save a lot of people data. Uncharted games are probably pretty popular on PS Now. Those games are somewhere between 30-50GB of data each. So you’re looking at 100 GB just to download 3 games. Also downloading would make things like the Vita TV, TV units, the Vita itself, and any streaming box PS Now could come to, unable to play some really amazing games because you’re not going to be able to fit too many 20GB+ games on those.

If you want a different solution than streaming games, try Gamefly.

      Sealum01

      You’re wrong.

Downloads from my knowledge aren’t typically sequential.

      Streams typically are sequential.

All streams are downloads, not all downloads are streams. You can test this by using a torrent legally on freely distributed movies. A stream allows you to watch it while it downloads. A regular download can download the end or the middle long before it starts on the beginning. Streams are smart downloads. A download is an idiot loading up a moving truck and puts all the important stuff away first, so that you can’t even start setting up the house until after everything has been unloaded. A stream is the person who puts the stuff you’ll need first, in the truck last.

    • You’re remotely playing a game with controls sent to the server and the video streamed back, there is no way to download it.

What you’re describing is playstation plus, and would only work on the relevant system PS3 games on a PS3. Wouldn’t be possible for PS4 or PC.

I know Sony will announce the Neo in September.
I highly recommend using 3.5″ HDD.
I know it makes it bigger, however, people buying the more powerful PS4 aren’t that concerned about it’s size, they are more concerned about the limited memory.
3.5″ HDD not only support higher memory, but is also often at a lower price, which is essential to keep the PS4 competitive.
The more internal memory the PS4 has, the more your customers will buy games from you since they have the Storage Space to put more.
The base model should have a 2Tb HDD, which usually cost around the same as a 1Tb 2.5″ HDD. You can have a 4Tb and above “limited edition” models as well.
This is just my suggestion. Since the Neo is only rumours, I would recommend it to be beefier and priced at around 499$(or 449$), the 4Tb model at 549$(or 499$). 4Teraflops isn’t quite enough to convince people to repurchase a new system. 5.5Tflops is much more convincing.

    • CommandingTiger

I have unlimited bandwidth at 70mbps download and 10 upload. I’m all good for PS Now.
I just don’t have the money for it yet.
Also, Why can’t see sync our safe files unto our PS3? This is an essential mandatory requirement. If I want to play on my PS3 (the same game that I own) I would like to continue that progress, then transfer the files to my cloud (which PS+ members have access to) and then play it on the go. I can’t see why that save file can’t be transferred back and forth.
I just don’t want to have to replay a game where I have over 35 hours of playtime in it.
I am sure you can make it work.

    • My problem is still the price. I know it’s not going to work right because my ISP is so low quality that even on my egregiously expensive 12 meg connection, I’m certain it’s not going to work, but even if that weren’t an issue, even at $100 a year it’s too much to pay to play a random assortment of games, either on a PS or on PC. I’d be better off buying a PS and just getting the games I want. It’s the same with PS+, just no incentive to spend that much extra at the chance to play some random games I’ve either never heard of or most likely won’t even want to play.

    • This would not be possible as PlaystationNow streams the video from their server to your computer screen. Your controls are sent to the server, processed there and the resulting game play is sent back to you.

To fully download a ps3 and play the game without streaming would require emulation or the game ported to pc. psnow is not an emulator. emulating a ps3 would require a powerful gfx card, cpu, etc. playstation now (streaming) theoretically would work on any system able to display video and connect to internet

    • Which is why I used quotations to denote “downloading” — as to imply a download of a app that will be run on a local device. PS Now is a service built around “streaming” game video/audio, not “downloading” games. The latter would require a completely different infrastructure, and one quite opposite to the established PS Now brand.

It’s not impossibly, but unlikely. And quite unnecessary (IMHO); the PS Now service works incredibly well and across a growing list of devices (ie. PSr4, PS3, PSVita, PC, select TVs, select Android Devices).

  • NI NO KUNI ON MY PS4!!! This is probably among the best news I have heard I have read all year! I CANNOT WAIT!

    • CrusaderForever

I know!!! This is so huge! I am so happy right now as well!

    • James Martin
      James Martin

Hi sealum01 – glad to hear it. Excited that we’re now able to bring this game to the service. Enjoy!

    • theveggiejerk

      Omg right?

    • I’m right there with you all! I’ve been waiting to play Ni No Kuni for years! As I never owned a PS3, this is the perfect opportunity to jump in!

  • This is all great news! I’ve been happy with the service, and even happier to see it continue to grow. Time to lock in another year. Also, looking forward to finally playing Ni No Kuni.

    • James Martin
      James Martin

Thanks samv33 – we’re excited to bring the service to Windows PC – so even more folks can enjoy playing great games like Ni No Kuni!

  • CrusaderForever

HA!! YES!!! Ni No Kuni!! Wow, MEGA BOMB right there! Well done, Sony, well done! Going to start playing it again since I never finished it but still have my save game files. I will have to find a way to pull myself away from No Man’s Sky first. That will be a tough task as I am having a lot of fun with the game and going for the Platinum. I know I am in the minority, but I really love the game. Also, never played a Mafia game so that is very nice to see. Thanks for Heavy Rain as well. PSNow just became a must have service for all PS fans!

    • CrusaderForever

Oh yeah, thanks for Castlevania Harmony of Despair as well! It’s great you are releasing that in October! Halloween is a great time of the year for these types of games. I will be cracking the digital seal on DOOM in October!

    • CrusaderForever

Can you give us the deadline for the $99.99/yr subscription price? I did this last year it was so worth it. I just want to know the deadline for taking advantage of this great deal.

    • James Martin
      James Martin

Thanks CrusaderForever – enjoy the games!

  • Painkiller360

Bring Socom Confrontation back online and make it PS Now exclusive and make it Saved Data Utility Copying Prohibited Lock.
I bet PS Now will get it a big boost in subscribers.

    • JeRzYzFyNeSt

stopppp it if they brought Socom Confrontation to PS NOW that would force me to sign up.. but i want a HD remake of that game for PS4 instead..

im itching for a good shooter.. FPS have not been strong this Gen.. all shooter this Gen is so bad and take no skill and lack many Features and Mode Whoever can capitalize on this will get a sales boost im sure

    • MakaiOokami

The reason why all the shooters are becoming bad is because of Call of Duty. Call of Duty makes everyone think they are a good player, so when someone plays an actually good shooter they go “Man this game is terrible because my kill rate is no where near as good in this one” Then they go back to Call of Duty.

Feedback a lot of devs get from focus groups can be summed up by “it doesn’t feel like Call of Duty.”

I like it when people say “Huge sales boost”

Like are you talking about 20k people, 200k people, 2 million people? Cause there’s no way 20 million people are buying that HD Remake unless it’s a Plus freebie.

    • Took the words out of my mouth! I too have been itching for a great FPS. One that would be labeled as a classic. But they’ve been very weak this gen and are not challenging. Overwatch has been able to satiate that thirst, a bit. The other guy is completely right, we have CoD to thank for ilk of FPS games this gen! On another note, Socom would be a great addition. I’ll give this svc a try, but already got too much in the backlog I gotta gets to.

  • The issue with PS NOW is that it doesnt work, for example, in Latin America.
So, we latin american people cant have full use of our PS4s.
Is anybody in SONY or PS thinking about a solution for this issue? It would be great news if you are.

  • Its absurd that there is no PS+ discounted price. I am NOT paying for another PS subscription on top of PS+ (and Vue for that matter).

I’d love to play Ni No Kuni, but not for a sub fee. I’d pay a few dollars to rent it though

  • darkwonders

If I have my $99 12mo sub from the Holidays, will it continue to stay at $99 as long as I don’t cancel it?

  • XxSTORM_FRONTxX

I will never pay money for a product that I’ve already bought on ps3. The PSNow is a total ripoff. They should have the option to play the games you purchased Digitally on the PS3. I”ve always bent over backwards spreading good news about PlayStation, but since the PS4 I feel like I’m just bending over.

    • thesamuraiman_PS

Unless you own, like, every single game of the 400+ games they have, your comment is kinda irrelevant. If that is the case, however, then this product is obviously not for you. It’s for me and many, many others that did not own a PS3. It’s not backwards compatibility. It’s a streaming service. That’s like saying “I’m not paying for Netflix because I own a dozen of the movies they have up there.”

    • @XxSTORM_FRONTxX As much as I would like the feature on PS Now where you can purchase games and play games you already own for free, thesamuraiman_PS has a point. However, what thesamuraiman_PS forgot to mention is that, according to a PlayStation specialist that I have a chat with when PS Now is new at the time, the PS Now service is also for those who don’t have time to play games like we do.

    • Totally agree. I would have even been alright if we could at least stream games we already purchased digitally from the PS3, but they won’t even allow us to do that. This service is basically more consumer friendly for those who never owned a PS3 or haven’t played many games on it. Plus, it should have been more catered to non-PS devices to begin with.

    • This isn’t BC. Do you expect Netflix or Amazon to let you watch all of your DVDs or Blu-rays on there for free?

Don’t define yourself by the things you own/enjoy and you’ll be happier in the future.

    • It’s not about double charging you for anything.

It’s a rental service. You’re paying $8.33 cents a month at this pricing to play as many games as you feel like from their catalogue. You might find yourself liking an Earth Defense Force, but if you buy it at $20 that’s almost 3 months worth of PS Now pricing.

If you were renting games, Gamefly costs $12 a month per month for 1 game out. For like $20 you get 2 games out at a time. Sure if you send a game back every 3 days you can maybe get in 10-20 games 3 days at a time… When I was a kid it cost like $3.99 a day to rent a game for the weekend. You’re basically able to play dozens of games. Best part is? Not filling up a hard drive. Though bandwidth caps are another issue.

However bandwidth caps will need to go away before too long. They don’t make sense in a 4k world and once the movie companies and the T.V. manufactures start lobbying congress, you’ll see Net Neutrality take away those bandwidth caps real fast.

To sit there and act like this is a crazy outrageous charge, is childish. It’s cheaper than Netflix was before hiked up my price by a few dollars from my grandfathered pricing.

  • pablikenemy79

“PlayStation Now is the subscription service that lets you stream hundreds of games to your Windows PC and PS4.”

That means the service is no longer available on Vita and other devices !?

    • I’m sure it still works….it’s just that the Vita is a dirty word for Sony. They hardly mention it at all anymore.

  • binarymellon

Been waiting for Ni No Kuni for a long time. Now just create a mac client for PS Now, and everything will be great.

  • sweet I always wanted to go back and finish Ni No Kuni but never wanted to re plug in my ps3 now i can play it on my PS4. Long time subscriber to PS Now. 99 dollars package is a steal

  • IkuzoGear4th

Can I ask for Kingdom hearts to be added to this service?

  • Is it available on PC in the US today?

    • James Martin
      James Martin

Hi shakim10 – Yes, the PS Now app for Windows PC is live! Visit our website – PSNow.com — to download the app and get started.

  • thesamuraiman_PS

Can I purchase the 12-month Subscription if I am *not* a current subscriber? And how long will the 12-month subscribtion be available?

    • James Martin
      James Martin

Hi thesamuraiman_PS – yes, the 12-month subscription offer is available for purchase within the US & Canada. The 12-month subscription is only available for a limited time, but we have not announced the end date for the promotion.

  • Can we just get Castlevania: Harmony of Despair on PS Vita?

  • So you can put your streaming service on PC’s, but you can’t release Bethesda’s coding for Mods on the Consoles (Fallout 4). It almost sounds like you’d rather Console owners switched to PC Gaming..

    • Diegoctba911

Exactly, thats what Sony wants. Looks like console gaming is disappearing after all. It was a fun ride.

    • It’s actually just more like Hacking and Modding games tends to be more of an American style solution and Microsoft is a HUGE company that is based around developing software.

Meanwhile Sony is a hardware company. They do great hardware, they didn’t have to re-engineer the whole PS4 just to prevent a giant horrible dangerous power brick. They got it like that in 1 go.

It’s harder for Sony to QA attempts at hacking the PS4 using user generated code on Open BSD exploits. Consoles tend not to have a huge push for mods. This is new for them, they gotta get it right otherwise developers (especially indie developers) could see piracy issues if they aren’t careful.

  • EdReedFan20

Why is the a la carte option gone? I liked having the option of renting games on a game by game basis. Yes, I know there’s more value with the subscriptions, but I still liked having the a la carte option.

  • GrafUlrich88

    Hello James,

Thank you for bringing Civilization Revolution and Ni No Kuni to PS NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!

I humbly request like I have in the past to please bring Sims 3 and Sims 3 Pets to PS NOW. Also with the news of GT Sport being delayed and you please bring GT 5 and GT 6 to PS NOW to help tide over us until GT Sport releases next year?

Also can we get back FF 13 and 13-2 to PS NOW? Also Thief and more Dynasty Warriors games!!!

Thanks again for all your hard work!!!

    Cheers!!!

    Rob aka Graf

    • James Martin

  • Duck_mann86

Hey just wanted to know if PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale will be on the service soon?

  • Yes! Literally last month I asked for Ni No Kuni and here it is! Can’t wait for the weekend!

    • James Martin
      James Martin

Hi mk79797 – glad to see we were able to bring Ni No Kuni to the service. Enjoy your weekend!

  • It is interesting that both this article and the site reads PS4 and PC not PS4, PS3, PS Vita, Smart TV, and PC. Is this a marketing push or a sign of something to come?

  • Very nice, sometimes I don’t want to schlep downstairs and want a bigger screen experience than my Vita, so this dovetails nicely with Remote Play on PC.

Now if PS Now makes it to Android, I’ll be all set :)

  • Does the year long option renew again at $99 or does it renew for a different price?

Also, definitely excited for these games. Some really great additions!

  • Are these part of the subscription? I don’t think the blog post says.

Please bring Dead Space 1 to PSNow

    • I believe all of the games listed above pertain to the subscription service, so yes.

  • 3D Dot Game Heroes on PS Now. hint hint! :)

  • When will we be able to stream digital games that we’ve purchased through PlayStation Now at no additional costs? I’d buy a lot more digital games if I could stream them without paying a subscription.

    • This isn’t BC at all. It’s a subscription-based streaming service in the vein of a Netflix.

    • this probably wouldn’t happen anytime soon. Basically what your asking is to use their system resources up without paying for it. Its a little different when downloading as your only downloading once or at least a few times at most, but with streaming its putting a constant strain on the servers. A more realistic option would be introduce a light plan that only includes games you have purchased before. maybe $10 a month without plus and $5 with plus

  • Are there any plans to offer this service on PC for other regions different than Europe and North America?

    • Any place that makes economical sense to build out server farms within close enough proximity that the latency doesn’t destroy your experience.

  • I really enjoy PS Now, however the customer service [or lack thereof] to assist paying customers is atrocious.

For months the service wouldn’t let me use it at all. Customer service could only help me try to reset my router, or my PS4. They knew nothing about PS Now itself or how to help someone with actual issues with it. So they directed me to a forum, a forum I had already attempted to get help in and got nothing. Which was why I contacted customer service in the first place.

You need to improve how you help customers. And by that I mean actually having people who know how to help, who actually can help. I know the problem was your servers near me weren’t working properly, it was never my problem. It was you, but I couldn’t get anyone to help. So months of my subscription burned away, money wasted. No refund, no extension. Nothing for my troubles.

No one should pay for PS Now until you fix how you handle problems.

  • Yes!!!!!

I hope my able to download and use this on my “special” laptop. I’m so excited, can’t wait to get off this “network” so I DL/install

btw …. 1yr for $100…. folks get it just for this price. (this is the second time in history- don’t miss out this time)

  • Atomic-Anvil

Could we get an official wired DS4 controller. Zero interference when I’m playing online would be fantastic!

  • put the PSN discount plus LatAm, Please!!

  • Wait, I thought the DS4 is needed for the wireless dongle only. I’m a little sadden that (after going to psnow.com) the DS4 is required to play on the PC. This means, all who are still on PS3 can’t use their subscription to play from a PC.

Playstation, will this change in the future? The ability to use DS3 to play from PC?

    • dual shock 4 is actually not required, I just played a game on psnow with my usb xbox (lol) controller. It worked perfect and all the controls were mapped correctly. I am sure other usb controllers are compatible as well

  • Silent__Killer01

I wanna use a usb bluetooth dongle with my psi controller.

    • Silent__Killer01

I wanna use a usb bluetooth dongle with my ps3 controller.

don’t see an edit button :(

  • killersquirel

I am a current PS Now subscriber with the 12 month package. I looked at the link and it says the same thing that it said when I subscribed at $100 for the first year and that it will auto renew at $100 subject to availability. Do I have to do anything to have it auto renew at $100, or do I have to buy it now and have it stack at the $100 price point?

    • I don’t remember that “subject to availability” part. I’m also sitting on that package plan, and I remember it auto-renewing at that price regardless. Honestly, thats the only reason why I did it since that seems like a better price for the service and I was trying to lock myself in at that price. I hope i”m not wrong because I don’t renew until the end of December.

    • Yes, @jmartin James Martin, please respond to this question as I’m in the same situation, expecting it to auto-renew at the $99 price point. This is the case, is it not?

  • Cool I can finally play ni no kuni without buying another playstation.

  • With the usb dongle will that allow for steam or other pc games to be played with the dualshock 4?

  • Please, make a MAC version for PSNow.
    Thank you.

  • People who play on PC can play PS3 games, while people who have PS4 can’t, thanks a lot Sony

    • You certainly can. It’s the same PS Now streaming that is already available on your PS4.

I don’t like either because of the added latency. It’s really only ideal for RPG and puzzle games.

I’d like to see them use the added power of the upcoming PS4 Neo to build an accurate PS3 emulator and have you download ans play them localized or play from the discs.

    • Diegoctba911

Looks like Sony really wants us to abandon console gaming. They are not supporting us, why should we?

  • This is pretty dope but until you get that sweet sweet MAC support, I’m just sitting here on the sidelines with STEAM ball…..waiting….

  • Very happy to hear the news! While I’m happy it’s available on PC, which gives me good reason to upgrade my system, like others have +1/asked, will this be available on Mac in the future? I want to maximize and balance systems in my household and I can’t use my PC most times and would love to use my Mac. Thanks again for the great news!

  • I would rather have had them spend the time getting PlayStation One Classics onto the PS4. That’s long overdue IMO.

  • anyone having trouble with ni no kuni? cannot get it to work on psnow but all others games that I tried work fine

    • Can you describe the error or the problem you’re experiencing a little more?

  • Real nice to include Civ Rev. I still play this game on my PS3. I wish Firaxis would made updated version for PS4.

I will be getting the PS4 controller adapter.

  • You guys should bring more of your exclusives to the service maybe like the other resistance games, the ratchet and Clank hd collection, jak and daxter hd collection. Also bring other series to it like some of EA’s games like the mass effect games, dead space games.

  • PS. I just tried the PC PS Now app. (caveat: I’m at work on their network with plenty of firewall and restrictions)

However, I managed to start up and see the tiled listing of games. I start by selecting 3 titles I’ve tried during the Beta program and each time, I got the error stating “game not available at the moment”. So I then try another PS3 title I’ve played and got a much longer loading stream. I figured, it would finally work. At last, I got another error stating ‘I should check my internet and firework settings’.

I am going to assume the current network I’m on is currently restricting actual gameplay, but I”m more concerned about the 3 titles I tried to load which worked for me in the beta program of PS Now (when every selected title was free to try).

I will try again later, on another network. Further issues/bugs I will post on the PS Community boards.

    • Did you ever fix this, by any chance? All I’m getting on everything I click on is “This game is not available at the moment. Try again Later.”

Is there any plan to bring PS Now to Mac? There is the ability to remote play to Mac so wondering why not Now.

  • Is there any reason Mafia isn’t showing on PS Now on PS TV? It was there when I looked on PS4 but it’s not showing up on PS TV. The other 5 are there.

  • Most of the games offered with the subscription are mutiplats. A good way to get people interested in the service would be to add more former and future PS exclusives to PS Now.

  • I really wish they’d give free streaming access to PS3 games already digitally owned. I tried the PSNow trial, and it was pretty impressive.
