Danganronpa 1&2 Reload Revealed for PS4
5 Author Replies

I’ve heard more than a few people despair about the fact that the Danganronpa games have only been on the handheld market. I was talking about that with my coworker a little while back — about how sad it was that PS4 owners were missing out on some of the quirkiest characters and greatest storytelling of our time — and then he had an idea. What if we talked with developer Spike Chunsoft and they brought Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc and Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair to PS4?

Well, guess what? That’s exactly what’s happening in early 2017 with Danganronpa 1&2 Reload, dood!

You read that right. Monokuma’s making his mark on PS4 in early 2017 in North America and Europe. All of you awesome PS4 owners will finally be able to enjoy the maniacal machinations of this murderous bear in the comfort of your own home.

This endeavor on the PS4 will mark the first time Danganronpa has been on home consoles in North America and Europe, and we’re really excited to see everyone’s reaction! If you’re not familiar with the franchise, I’d recommend doing a quick search to see why Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc and Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair have been called “must-own” PS Vita games by journalists and fans alike.

Is there more to come? We’ll see! Puhuhuhu…

    Thank you very much!

  • “I’ve heard more than a few people despair about the fact that the Danganronpa games have only been on the handheld market.”

Did the PC versions stop existing?

*Insert Kazutaka Kodaka “Why won’t people buy a PS Vita?” here*

    • I bought a cheap, used PS Vita SPECIFICALLY to play Danganronpa and Zero Escape.

Don’t want to take away from the important announcement, but WHEN WILL DANGANRONPA V3 BE AVAILABLE IN THE US????

    • whereymyconary

Second when is Dangaranpa 3 coming west?

    • owenator111

This was one of the games that made me pick up the VITA, but for real seeing the Vita’s memory card prices makes me cry.

  • HI. sub esp? pls confirme :c

    • whereymyconary

I think this means your looking for Subtitled versions of the game, and Yes, both are in Japanese as well as English.

    • No creo que esta version tenga subtítulos en español, pero es una buena pregunta que me gustaría que Jordan respondiera.

I don’t think this version will feature spanish subtitles, but it’s a valid question I’d like Jordan to address.

  • Does that mean the game is finally going on discount after like
    4 years?

All 3 Danganronpa games have been on sale on Vita quite a few times. I bought all of them on sale.

    • UDG was only on sale briefly in December 2015 and January 2016 and regretfully, I didn’t get it in either occasion… I’m waiting from another sale (Halloween? Christmas? C’mon Jordan! Help a brother out!) to get it then.

    • from = for. Duh.

    • “I’m waiting from another sale (Halloween? Christmas? C’mon Jordan! Help a brother out!) to get it then.”

That was some serendipitous s**t: got UDG at 50% off on the Oct 11th sale! Thanks, Jordan!

  • Man you guys sure do know how to get all the money out of my wallet! Buying this for sure!

  • Already own them, but I think I’ll get them on PS4 as well to show support (is a physical version comes out). This series has become one of my favorites (including the new anime).

Thanks for the support, dood! We love this series and are super excited that more people will be able to check it out soon. We know y’all love your boxes, so there will definitely be a physical release! ;) Pre-orders should be available soon.

  • Own them on Vita, own them on Steam, will I get them on PS4? You bet I will! I love these games so much. ^_^ Is this getting a physical release?

It sure is! Our online store has pre-orders available right now, and other retailers should have pages online shortly!

  • RiddledWthShells

Will this have separate trophy lists from the vita games? I’d play them all over again for another 2 platinum trophies.

  • RealDealPossiel

    What about Ultra Despair Girls?

  • I’d also love to see UDG make it to PS4. BUT, this is extremely cool as I just picked up Psycho-Pass as well. Never had a chance to finish them (was in the middle of 1 but had 2 on the memory card as well lol) as I gave my Vita to a friend of mine when he left for school a few years ago. Thank you guys for bringing this to PS4! Looking forward to NDR3 as well =)

  • Can we get a Prinny double pack too? That’d be super sweet dood!

  • DuoMaxwell007

HELL YES!!! ive ALWAYs wanted to play this.. just wanted to do it on my t instead of my Vita.. i was even gonna get 3 on PS4 and skip eh first two.. now Ill actually be able to play em all……. when can i preorder?!?!?!?

  • That is great news for people who never play those game on Vita because they are great. One question though, is it gonna be $59.99 or $39.99? I bought both of them on the launch day, and played them on big TV using Vita TV. If it is $59.99, I guess I will have to wait for discount in the future. Oh, I hope D3 will come soon too :)

That’d be $39.99 MSRP for the standard edition in the United States, dood! No need to wait. ;)

  • WaveLightning777

Well, there goes more of my money. Such despair. Upupupupu.

  • anti-altair16

Everyone should play Danganronpa! I’ve played both of these and Ultra Despair Girls and I love this series. I just finished the Danganronpa 3 anime last week and it was fantastic. I’m so excited for V3 next year. One of my most anticipated titles of 2017. Maybe I’ll get this just to support the franchise and to play it on a controller.

  • Damn, I wish I knew this was coming before I bought both on a Steam sale a couple weeks ago.

  • Must be many looking forward to playing this Vita game of very strong quality reputation that never had the Vita to play this on.

  • Each time they remaster Vita exclusives to the PS4, it’s making me think that the Vita is becoming less and less relevant.

I’m hoping we get a PS4 version of Muramasa and Uncharted Golden Abyss if they want to give me something that is worth while in terms of Vita to PS4 remasters.

    Please make it happen Sony!!
And release it on disc too and not just digital-only.

    • gerneric123

DanganRonpa was never a Vita exclusive. The first two games were originally PSP releases that got ported to iOS, Vita, PC and now PS4.

    • The iOS version never left Japan. That’s why I had to buy a Vita…

  • I kept holding off on getting these games for the Vita but with this announcement, and the fact that it will have a physical version makes this a possible Day 1. I would like to see what the limited edition will look like.

  • Will cyber danganronpa vr ever come to the west??

  • whereymyconary

Well, I’ve beaten all the vita versions and tell my PS4 friends they need vitas… which never happens so i might be buying them copies instead.

  • lisatsunami

Yay, going big-time, eh? I will double double dip and pre-order, to show my NIS appreciation, thanks!

  • These look interesting. I will definitely pick this up to check them out.

  • madmanwithabox12

    Favorite series.

“I’ve heard more than a few people despair about the fact that the Danganronpa games have only been on the handheld market.”

Yes, those people are what’s known as… The Problem. ;D

Sill, this Vita betrayal is so despairful in it’s own way. Puhuhuhu >=D

  • “This endeavor on the PS4 will mark the first time Danganronpa has been on home consoles in North America and Europe”
The first time NISA’s been able to publish it as such, maybe, but Steam Machines and SteamOS boxes are still consoles.

Then again, this is a Sony blog, so it’s only natural to pretend Linux doesn’t exist.

Are the art assets going to be any higher quality than the Vita versions, or are they just going to be upscaled like the Steam versions? There’s no Japanese release to compare to, as far as I’m aware.

  • iv already played it,but for those who havent I suggest you do. Also im surprised danganronpa ultra despair girls isint getting a ps4 port. I think it would be a perfect fit.

  • YESSS Thank you so much!!! Will definitely preorder it!! Dangan ronpa is one of my favourite series so I’m so happy. I hope for a Ultra Despair Girls PS4 port, since I didn’t get to play it bc it’s on Vita only and not on steam either.

    • Own the three games on my PSV but it’s always nice to see the series getting more exposure. Now, if this: “about how sad it was that PS4 owners were missing out on some of the quirkiest characters and greatest storytelling of our time” could work the other way around, everything would be golden. Even if Sony wants to make you think otherwise, 15M people also own a PSV and enjoy gaming just as much as somebody with a home console~.

  • Hope this game has an actual GAME PLAY, would hate it if its a 100% visual novel with nothing other than that.

  • Griever_Dividous

    Will Platinum both titles again.

  • MONOKUMA FTW! Ive brought all the danganronpas for the vita, and im gettin this as well just for the fact that the devs put so much effort on this franchise that i just want to support them, the games hooked me up for good, keep it up! puhuhuhu!!

  • Own all three of the Vita games.

Will probably pick up the PS4 version…just for the new trophy list.

Hope we get Dangaronpa VR like JPN. Waiting patiently for Dangaronpa 3.

  • Mellard1121

That’s awesome I’ve wanted to play these games for awhile now

  • Will we be able to pre-order a digital version soon also? I mainly buy my games through the PlayStation Store due to a number of reasons so I was wondering if a pre-order will be up on the PS Store as well (and hopefully soon)

  • WIll the rendering bugs be fixed where you can see all the characters are totally flat? Especially the first one on Vita had a bunch of sloppy bugs. Still loved the totally bizarre story and characters.

any chance of stereo 3D support on PS4?
