PlayStation Experience 2016: Mega Game Roundup

Sid Shuman's Avatar Posted by

Director, SIEA Social Media

PlayStation Experience is a weekend filled with new games and big surprises. Bolstered by an amazing community of gamers from around the world, the show is home to a brilliant blend of genres, stories, heroes, and challenges.

It’s hard to capture the whole weekend at a glance, which is why we’ve built this growing list of games that made an appearance in Anaheim, California this weekend or made new announcements. We’ll be adding to it throughout the day, so come back for more details on some of the best and brightest in the industry.

And don’t forget to share your favorites in the comments section below. Enjoy!

Mad Fellows
PS4
We’re massively excited to debut Aaero on PS4 at PlayStation Experience 2016. Our indie studio, ‘Mad Fellows’, is based in England and currently consists of just myself and a crazy programmer called Dan. In Aaero you pilot your craft through alien landscapes, battling strange enemies and tracing trails of light that release the energy in the music. The music is the heart and soul of the game. The soundtrack is incredible! We can’t wait to hear what you think.

PS4
The Sloclap team was so thrilled to see our game on stage at PlayStation Experience and excited to announce that Absolver will be a PS4 console exclusive in 2017. If you aren’t familiar with Absolver, it’s an online action game that is set mainly in the ruins of an old imperial city. Absolver focuses on martial arts combat, with intense real-time action and a “combat deck” interface in which players can build unique combat choreographies between fights, to create their own playstyle within different martial art schools. We’re excited to join the PlayStation family!

Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy
Crash Bandicoot N Sane Trilogy, Cinematic
Vicarious Visions
PS4
We at Vicarious Visions love Crash, and we’re super excited for everyone to play the N. Sane Trilogy. But we can’t fly everyone out to Anaheim to play it in person, so here’s a peek that answers some burning questions. And the biggest question everyone keeps asking us, “Is this a remaster or a remake?” It’s practically impossible to make a traditional remaster of the original Naughty Dog games. They’re roughly 20 years old, and technology has advanced significantly in that time. The original code and assets are nearly unusable. Nearly.
But we don’t consider this a remake. We know how much you all love the original games, so we didn’t want to fully remake them. The N. Sane Trilogy is a remaster plus.

We brought our high-speed action RPG to PlayStation Experience almost one year ago and the crowd was wonderful. The number one request we received was to bring the game to PlayStation Vita. Hearing from many passionate PS Vita fans in person and on social media fired us up to make it happen. I’m proud to say we are bringing Fallen Legion to PlayStation Vita and the portable version is more than a port. Human: Fall Flat is a physics puzzle game with an open-ended design set in the surreal dreamscapes of one man — Bob. Explore strange worlds and solve their challenges with only your wits and any tools you might find lying around. However, you don’t have to do anything you don’t want to do. When I designed Human: Fall Flat I made sure that breaking the rules (and puzzles) is as fun as following them. Want to try and open that door to win the level? Go for it. Lara Croft GO

Square Enix Montreal
PS4, PS Vita
Lara Croft GO is out now on PS4 and PS Vita! We wanted to give the PlayStation fans something special, the platform having been so important in the history of the Tomb Raider and Lara Croft. That’s when the idea of crafting a completely new expansion — and bringing it to PlayStation first — came about. So we teamed up with the talented guys at KO_OP (of GNOG fame) to create it. Story wise, we wanted to explore the idea of shattered realities; bringing together key elements from the classic game, while staying true to Lara Croft GO. Just like Hitman Go: Definitive Edition, Lara Croft GO on PlayStation supports cross-buy, cross-play and has that sweet, sweet Platinum trophy.

What a great lineup! Most excited for the Wipeout Omega collection. This may be a tall claim but Wipeout is likely one of the best racing series ever. Also glad to see some Vita love! Only interested in about 14-16 of the games mentioned above. Ha! Sony, for me, all you need to do is develop Legaia 3 and 4 for PS4. I’d like Legaia 3 released on PS3, but I feel that isn’t realistic anymore. And Heavenly Sword 2 following Ninja Theories sequel ideas, rather then the DVDs, most likely…

Legaia 3 and 4
Heavenly Sword 2
And Musashi 3 and 4 from Square-Enix.

That would be great!

Where’s Kessen 4, and Star Wars Battlefront 2 remastered. I want more games with a proper magic system. No new info on Kingdom Hearts 3 orVampyre? Dreadnought sounds interesting.

And here I thought Dreadnought was going to be a PC only game glad I was proven wrong looking forward to it.

I think they’re only featuring games mentioned as PSX. As for why it wasn’t at PSX, my guess is they wanted to make room for all of the new stuff so people wouldn’t get so overwhelmed.

I think What Remains of Edith Finch deserves a mention.

“These days”. Publishers release games that have a high chance of making a profit. Most of the time those games will be based on some current trend or established franchise. If you don’t like it then don’t buy it but what they charge is up to them

What amazes me is that with all these games, only a handful even interest me. Fighting games just bore me and since VR holds no interest to me at present that cuts down the list quickly.
I need a good story to hold my interest for a while or at least gameplay that doesn’t seem too repetitive or grindy (which seems contradictory to the fact I love RPGs). That or some good puzzles. Or maybe I’m just getting too picky in my old age.
