Rocket League: PS4 Pro Support Coming February 21

Thanks to our development friends at Panic Button, Rocket League will soon officially support the PlayStation 4 Pro!

On February 21, we will release a new update that allows Rocket League to run at both 1080p (on a standard PS4) and 4K (on PS4 Pro) at 60 frames per second in all arenas for single and two-player split-screen modes. Three and four-player split-screen modes will offer 60 frames per second in most arenas at the same resolutions.

In addition to the new visual optimizations we’re making, our next update will also bring…

  • Hot Wheels premium DLC cars, Twin Mill III and Bone Shaker (sold separately).
  • Additional free Hot Wheels-themed post-match item drops, including both Toppers and Antennas.
  • A new fan-voted “Player’s Choice” Crate filled with some of the community’s favorite items.
  • PS4-specific technical improvements.
  • Multiple performance optimizations and bug fixes.

This is just the first of many planned content updates for Rocket League in 2017, so be sure to keep an eye out for even more from Psyonix HQ as the year moves on.

    I hope the association with Hot Wheels will be a long one. I’d like to see the original Splittin’ Image made available for purchase. I had a gold one when I was a kid.

    I believe you may be misreading it. The meaning they gave is it will always run at 60FPS in single player and 2 player split-screen modes on all maps (1080p/60fps PS4, 4k/60fps PS4 Pro). On certain maps it will run 60FPS but not full 1080p/4k when 3 or 4 player split screen.

    I rather they do efficient checkerboard uprendering up to 4K then wasteful native 4k which really isn’t much difference.
    With checkerboard uprendering it leaves them some resources for improving other aspects too such as Anisotropic Filtering (AF) which is needed and other stuff etc

    Its not a very demanding game. I run it on 2 of my PC’s (Gtx1080 & a GTX 1070), and on my new alienware with the GTX 1060 in fully maxed out in both 1080p and 4K on a Samsung KS8000. I think the Pro should be plenty powerful enough to run this maxed or very close to maxed. It looks so crisp and solid in 4K.

    I *think* they mean that in split-screen mode for PS4 it won’t drop the resolution and fps to make it run and keep it stable 1080p 60fps even while playing in split-screen mode. Thanks to further optimisation etc they squeezed out more power and that it seems

    Yes, looks like both 1080p and 4K will be at 60fps. Splitscreen mode is when more than one player plays on the same system, on the same screen, but split such that each player has their own portion of the screen to play on. This is how we played back in the day. Perhaps you’re too young to know this? :P

As someone who doesn’t game on 4K TV’s.

Any improved stuff for Pro users there with 1080p TV’s? Is there modes you can choose?

Also liking the sound of further improved optimisation of Rocket League on both Standard PS4 and Pro PS4!

    Great question! You can definitely play Rocket League on your PS4 Pro while using a 1080p display, and you might see some improved performance above what we’re expecting with this update, mainly in the splitscreen modes (playing with two, three, or four people on the same display).

    I felt the same way since i too got the game for free on PS+. I remedied this by purchasing DLC cars and a few credits for loot crates. That way Psyonix gets some of my money for all their great work.

    Hi Norm – the update for PS4 (not Pro) ensures 1080p at 60 frames per second when playing any arena in singleplayer or two-player splitscreen. Performance is improved across the board, although we already hit 60 fps in most arenas now.

    A developer says supersampling will not included at this time. Sorry. Sucks for 1080p users. I wonder if we’ll get any image improvements in this update. The game already runs perfectly on the PS4, what frame rate improvements could they possibly make from here? Is it hard to implement supersampling or something?

I am excited to see some RL in 4K. I just wonder if HDR and VR will come some time too. HDR from my experience is a larger jump than resolution. VR is like freaaking utopia. Hope the team plans to support both at some point.
