Ghost Recon Wildlands Open Beta Starts Today, Here’s What You Can Do

Ghost Recon Wildlands gives you the chance to explore a truly massive open world with a team of elite operatives, dismantling the operations of the Santa Blanca drug cartel however you see fit. And starting today, you’ll be able to get a sense for just how big Wildlands is when the open beta gives all PS4 players a free taste of what’s in store.

Running through February 27, the open beta will set you loose in two Bolivian provinces, Itacua and Montuyoc, where you’ll be tasked with finding and neutralizing high-ranking Santa Blanca operatives.

Ghost Recon Wildlands Open Beta Starts Today, Here’s What You Can Do

If you were selected to play the closed beta for Ghost Recon Wildlands in early February, you already recognize Itacua as the place where you established ties with the Kataris 26 rebels, traded shots with corrupt Unidad troops, and hunted down La Yuri and El Polito, two lovers who’d turned their medical expertise to interrogation and torture.

They’re back again in the open beta, but there’s plenty more where they came from; the open beta is a hugely expanded experience, with enough total content to fuel around eight hours of gameplay.

Please note that if you played the Closed Beta, you will also have to recreate your character.

What’s New in the Open Beta?

Montuyoc is a mountainous province that includes the popular Bolivian salt flats. Santa Blanca keeps a huge arsenal and trains its best sicarios in this province, so you can expect a stiffer challenge than you faced in Itacua. There’s a new Santa Blanca warlord to chase, and to find him, you’ll need to raid Santa Blanca encampments and strongholds to destroy their weapons, kill their elite instructors, and interrogate cartel officers across five new story missions (in addition to the six already available in Itacua). And if you want to learn more about your target and the Santa Blanca, you’ll be able to find 12 new Kingslayer Files filled with fascinating dirt on your enemies.

Ghost Recon Wildlands, PS4

As before, you’ll be able to tackle these any way you see fit, customizing your Ghost and their loadout to suit your tactics. If stealth is your thing, you can wait until nightfall and sneak to your objectives, using night vision and silenced weapons to avoid full-blown firefights. You can coordinate with other players to line up synchronized sniper shots, skydive straight to your objectives from a helicopter, or smash through enemy fortifications with powerful military vehicles. Or you can go in solo with a computer-controlled squad, issuing orders and picking off cartel guards at your own pace.

The open beta also adds a fistful of new side missions, including new rebel operations and supply raids, and you can further break from the beaten path to track down new intel drops and earn new weapons, accessories, and skill points for beefing up your Ghost. If you’re truly adventurous, you’ll also be able to tackle the open beta at the hardest difficulty, testing your squad’s mettle against Santa Blanca’s best or seeing how long you can survive solo.

The open beta will be free to all PS4 players (although you’ll need a PS Plus membership to play co-op) and will run from February 23 through February 27. And if it leaves you hungry for more, you won’t have long to wait, as Ghost Recon Wildlands launches on March 7.

Can’t wait for this to land

TL,DR: Game is about a C+ because it lacks content but otherwise it has some potential.

I’ll put this the here since your comment is at the top.

      The good:

      1. Very large, beautiful open world
      2. Smooth animations (except for the ghillie suit)
      3. Very good graphics (ps4 pro at 1080p not 4k)
      4. Vehicles for land, water and air.
      5. Easy skills and weapons/specials upgrade system
      6. Straightforward missions and expectations.
      7. Realistic

      The bad:

      1. Motorcycle controls are unresponsive and animation feels delayed.

      2. Flight controllers are almost terrible. Use only one controller stick for turning, going up/down, and even stopping as well as aiming with helicopters. It is frustratingly difficult to hit anything you want with a helicopter, it is frustrating to land it on precise locations since there is no dedicated rudder control like in GTA5 so you have to circle around and try to land again if you went perfect the first time.

      The ugly:

The map is huge and more than 90% lacking any activity, no fun being in between destinations for a few minutes, even worse if you crash and now have to walk a long time to the next objective. Map is too empty.

      Verdict C+

The download goes in my queue, but then I get an error that says “Cannot Download.” Anyone else having this problem? Any suggestions?

Beta Servers are down on launch day?

“Ghost Recon Wildlands services are not available at this time. Please try again later. Ribera-1000B”

Seems like some error code. And as of 10:18 AM (Central Standard Time -6hr) 2/23/17 this beta is not working.

I guess save your downloading data amount until it is confirmed to work.

And less than 15 min later after previous post, the servers are working

    • ALWAYZBEENELITE

Well lucky you, I’m still getting that error code. Been trying to log in for the last 30 minutes with no success. I am very frustrated, the same thing happened with The For Honor beta, get your stuff together UbiSoft:( Very disappointed!!

Really enjoyed the closed beta and I will definitely be trying out the open beta too. It was great to play with Ubi friends.

Quick question though: Will there be any changes made to the flying mechanics from the closed beta? A lot of people struggled with control. If there will be no changes made, it would be great if you posted some kind of tutorial for those of us that struggle. Helicopters were tough to maneuver and in the mission with the plane, I couldn’t get the plane to pull up to make it over the mountain. A fix or some tutorial help would be great.

  • I’m buying on Day 1, so the questions becomes, do I play the Beta?

    • Best way to know whether you will actually like it before you open your shrink wrap

  • west coast, Beta not working. info on sever error also leads to a wild goose chase. Hasn’t worked all morning.Good luck.

  • MnementhWolff

I suspect that physics controls etc wont of changed from the closed beta not enough time between the two to make any significant change to core physics/control. The vechicals will probably still be odd and flying near imposible to do well, but I will try out to see if its any different from the closed beta as it showed alot of promise in said Beta.

  • Nice, looks good so far…already got the beta downloaded from yesterday to today and I’m just waiting until I get home to try it out.Was a bit mad that I wasn’t selected for the closed beta but I’m glad that we’re having an open-beta cuz I’m in doubt about Wildlands and nothing better than playing for yourself to see if it’s worth it.

Thanks for putting the solo option in the beta and one last thing…STEALTH ALL THE WAY!!

  • GoldennRose17

the beta is not working when you get to the service part then going to say try again later but it does not work mmmaann come on this just bull like how you going to do that to people. smh

  • XxBaBy_MoNtAnA

How the hell can I fix the server’s not available at this time thing on the beta

  • Downloading the beta but what about Sony maintenance? Would Ghost Recon Wildlands extand it’s beta test days?

The maintenance is on february 26 2017 @ 8pm PT to 10pm PT…but originally the maintenance was 5pm PT to 8pm PT for february 26 2017 & 3:30am PT to 6:30am february 27 2017 which Sony might release it’s latest firmware which could take some time to download/update out PS4 system.

Liked the beta, game shows alot of promise. Agree that the helicopter controls are hideous and need some serious tweeking via a patch in order to remove a frustrating issue. I’m seriously considering buying this game, but if the flight control and notable camera issue I encountered with the motorcycle and boat as well don’t get the attention they deserve I might pass and buy mass effect instead for the same money, which looks alot more polished. The shooting and customization is great imo , character model is nicely handled and looks more polished then the terrible just Cause 3 unfinished game. That said there flight control was good imo, also agree that vast amounts of area without more enemies or animals to fight off seems wasted. Ubisoft I hope you address these issues cause I would really like to purchase your game.

  • I’ve played 30 mins or so. It looks gorgeous

  • My impression from the Beta is that it is open world sandbox game with story missions like Far Cry but with 4P co-op and too much space between things to do and no animals. The missions were too small scale in terms of combat. Not worth the time it takes to drive to them.

Once mission completed it is very confusing what one is supposed to do next. I don’t understand the point of big open to roam spaces where there isn’t much to do. The side mission things are not compelling to play either.

Games like Far Cry and Just Cause give more compelling gameplay. The only thing going for this is that it does have 4P co-op but for having co-op shouldn’t the missions and engagements be something that actually needs more players to do well?

Does Anyone Know How To Get The Division PSN Avatars???

  • It bored me to death in 20 minutes.

This game is so fun that you will not be able to enjoy other games at the same time as you play this one. It sets a bar so high for other games like it that you will struggle leaving for little while to play something else. I tried to stop playing the beta for a couple hours to play another game I enjoy but there was a constant nagging pulling me back in to hunt down intel.
It’s realistic, its massive, mission and quest do not seem repetitive.
A lot of story and recorded dialogue is embedded with each one that makes it seem like a sequel to the main game. Each cartel member that is. There are many with each one having a variety of their own video files, intel documents, photos, and voice acting that gives each one a fresh new game feeling. You won’t feel like you are planing a recycled mission with simply new names and faces. Completing an area feels very rewarding and satisfying.
Only minor problems with my playthrough that are not even worth mentioning for day one patches will surely address them. Motorcycle handling could be tweaked, and controls for helicopter firing on ground targets. Graphics are beautiful and a screen shot is my new wallpaper. Beta(4.50 system)

Sorry, don’t know how it posted two times

  • I was really, really hoping I would like this game but I ended up cancelling my order with Amazon. Character control was very choppy at times and the game lacks a cover option. When I could crouch behind something my shooting angle needed to be corrected and I ended up having to stand up to reorient myself which left me vulnerable to contact. Unlike most posts I’ve read I found controlling the dirt bikes very responsive and fun once I got the hang of it. Contolling any other land vehicle or helicopter was, on the other hand, absolute garbage. Come on, it’s 2017 we have figured that control mechanic out. There are tons of games that make this an enjoyable experience. New games should not suffer from this problem anymore. I didn’t feel that the map was full enough and I fear that I’m going to dump $60 into this game and be bored after 4 hours. I expected more from Ubisoft.
