Sharefactory Update 2.50: New Features Detailed, Out Today

The on-console video editor gets a host of new features, including the ability to import your own video and images.

Today we are releasing a new update to Sharefactory that includes our biggest feature as requested by the community, including user imported content, Clone Clip, editing from the Capture Gallery, plus much more.

We’re extremely happy to be able to allow users to import video and images into Sharefactory, as our community have been requesting this feature since launch. Using content from a USB drive, you can import your own videos and images to be used as your custom intro, title and outro clips as well as use your own artwork as stickers. It has never been easier to personalize your Sharefactory videos to share to the world.

The new update also adds the Clone Clip feature. This addition allows you to easily duplicate any clip being used in your project and retain all of the existing filters, stickers, text as well as the clip duration. This enables much quicker editing when using the same video and effects throughout your edits to share your gameplay experiences.

Additionally, Sharefactory’s 2.50 update allows you to select up to 16 video clips or screenshots from your Capture Gallery and launch directly into Sharefactory for editing. This feature will quickly create a project using the content that is selected in the Capture Gallery – making creating and sharing a video easier than it ever was before.

Sharefactory Update

Other features in this update include:

  • Added over 30 textures you can use to personalize your text as well as the ability to freely scale your text
  • New Infomercial Sharefactory Theme
  • New Photo Mode collages with support for up to 16 images
  • New Photo Mode Templates
  • New stickers
  • Contextual Help has now been added throughout Sharefactory
  • Updates to the UI

The feedback we receive from our users is very important to the team. Please continue to reach out and show us your Sharefactory creations. We love to see them!

We’re looking forward to seeing the new content that PlayStation fans will be sharing with this new update. Have fun and happy editing!

  • Great info! Looking forward to testing out the new features.

Thanks for the feedback! We are looking forward to seeing what the Community creates with the new update. Enjoy!

    • A feature I’ve been waiting for awhile is the ability to add a picture overlay. Like as a clip is playing, there can be a image overlaying on the screen.

    • An undo button would be nice.

  • Updates I would like
    1. PS Video support both Ultraviolet and Disney Movie Anywhere
    2. Plug and play support of external HDD on the PS3 or the removal of the 10% storage reserve for future OS upgrade
3.Improve the PS4 download speed to use my full internet speed
    4. The ability to hide demos on the PS4
    5. Allow search and filter on the download list on the PlayStation Store website
    6. Add a cloud storage like Dropbox to PS4
    7. Add a pin login to PS3

    • Jisatsu_Kiddo

You may need to talk to your isp or look at your network.

    • I have 150Mbps internet speed. On my Xbox One, it took me 12hrs to download 1TB of games. I started on a Friday night. On my PS4, it took me 24hrs to download 1TB of games. I started on Thurs morning. In both cases I am using wired. The PS4 download speed is slower than the XB1.

    • SmurfSyndrome

@dwademoe3 i second that. been having to come up with clever ways to do that with sharefactory it’s super tedious. i want image overlay on clips damn it lol

  • Nice job! Next we need Sharefactory to recognize that the same clip split in 2 not to be recognized as 2 different videos clips. It really limits my creativity. I know 50 clips for importing to the timeline is good enough to some but when splitting the same clip into 2 or more, it should not occupy the limit of actual different clips I’ve imported to the timeline. I save 30 second to 1 minutes clips and sometimes when I split and move clips around, I barely reach a 10+ minute mark on some of my projects. Actually why is there even a clip limit when there is a time limit of 80 minutes?

    • CrownedLion

This would be a huge improvement. Limiting the number of clips is really constraining. I’ve been hoping for Sharefactory to become more powerful and useful – and there have been some nice changes and additions – but it still kinda feels like a missed opportunity. I would love to get into projects more, but it’s hard to edit with a controller. I know it would require a complete UI overhaul to accommodate a mouse, and there probably aren’t a ton of people that would use it. It’s just a shame to have such a powerful machine and not be able to fully utilize it. Still, it’s a cool thing to have, and does not go unappreciated.

    • Thats what I wanna know lol
But they are trying, theres no denying that, maybe next update will improve the clip limit to 100 or something.

  • It’s just like the PS3 “Video Uploader and Editor” with the ability to upload the same video again. But the thing is the 2nd video is darker when saving the video.
But with ShareFactory idk what will the out come will be. But I do know this the video WON’T look darker lol

  • That’s awesome, was just on there editing for a series last night, thinking man, I wish I could import some of my own stuff. Can’t wait to try these new features out.

  • guyverunit122

This Is great I can’t wait to check this update out. Good job Team ShareFactory!

  • saiyanknight87

Omg finally i’m going to tweet Stuart and show him my gratitude! i’m hyped!!!

  • Haoxian_Dave

I was ecstatic when I read that importing videos is now possible. But I tried it and I always get the “Unable to open file” error or the “Video I-Frame interval setting is not supported”.

I checked the format of my videos , and it looks on par with what the VIEW HELP page says.

I tried importing videos recorded with my Samsung S5, sometimes it works sometimes it doesn’t.

Also, the quality of imported videos are very noticeably downgraded. :/

Thanks for the effort, I guess.

BTW when are ya’ll gonna add an “UNDO” button? Thats like a standard in any editing software.

    • SummerSnowman804

please release a video on how to use the import videos thing coz it kept saying Video I-Frame interval setting is not supported”.

Thanks for the question. Please refer to page 68 of our online manual for more information on video importing. The I-Frame message is related to the number of key frames in the video which you can also find the requirements for on page 68 of the manual. Thanks!

    • Basically for the video to be imported, the video must be encoded to be 30 fps or so. Sometimes, though, sharefactory still wont take it, so you gotta encode it to 30 fps yourself.
For me, I used Bandicut to do it.

    • Here’s a quick how-to encode your videos so they are properly supported.
      https://youtu.be/EsyiQGLSvoM

  • Thank you so much for adding support for outside videos. I have been waiting for this. Glad I will finally be able to mix some fun videos with my friends into our gaming videos. Also going to be really nice being able to edit family videos with PS4 vs PS3.

One thing I would like to see is the Photo editor getdeeper, and more closley ressemble something like GIMP. It would be great if we could get some Mouse support as well.

All in all, you guys are doing excellent work. I wish more payed themes would come out, or some forum of premium content, because I would absolutely like to be able to support the software, because it holds massive value to me.

Thanks for all of the feedback. We love to hear from the Community. We are extremely happy to be able to add the import content feature with this update.

  • Great work to the ShareFactory team again. You guys keep putting out some excellent updates that add tons of functionality.

  • Digging the new updates but can we get a post explaining all the update features? Or more specifically steps on how the to setup the external hard to the PS4. I plugged in my ex hdd and the system wont recognize it. Thanks!!

  • This is a cool update, and it shows Sharefactory is getting better.
I only have one gripe, which is that the new text overlays effects are disappointing, I was hoping for “active” effects you know? like Fade in/fade out text, or rapidly blinking text, or text that transitions into the screen (with various speed options) and you can choose what side of the screen it comes from, and the same effect for PNG images and Transparent videos.
Other than that, this update is fantastic, thanks!

  • I’ve never touched the “share” button on my controller. :/

    • Really one the best things on DS4 really love the design of everything being integrated in one button makes so much easier to share you Screenshots,Game clips, Broadcast from it etc…

  • I’m a beast (That’s a good thing, PlayStation) at photoshopping, but I can’t add photos from my USB to the SHAREfactory. We need better instructions.

    • Stuart Platt
      Stuart Platt

Hey there! Thanks for being a SHAREfactory supporter. Please check out page 67 of the user manual for instructions on importing from USB. You can access the manual from our Live Area or from the Options button in the app. Thanks!

    • @JDauntless, did you resolve the issue? Try to keep your image between 64×64 px – 1280×720 px. Also make sure it’s in USB:\SHAREfactory\Images\.. when you import…

    • @JDauntless yeah it was not that much in lament terms. The Images have to be either JPG or PNG, 64×64 – 1280×720 and support 8-32 bit color
      hope this helps!

  • Guys, i remember asking on twitter if sharefactory would ever get the option to import video and images from USB i remember being told that it was being looked into (about a year ago) I’m so glad to see that this is a thing now! I’ve been uploading my WWEGames videos since 2014 when WWE2K15 released (and incidentally when i got my ps4) so to have this is a huge help. I had a hard time getting the import to work but thanks to Justin Greene’s Awesome Sharefactory 2.50 Tutorial, it’s all good now! This proves that 2K was lying when they said it wasn’t possible to import music into an application. Thanks guys and keep up the good work. Just a little sample of my work.

this uses the Video, Music import feature, as well as Picture in Picture

    • @jmonty09 I’m sure that you saw my comment as an opportunity to say “Sony look, I got it, I got it… You can count on me to educate the gifted”, but sorry guy, you’re wrong. The instruction are easy to follow, but some of the new features are clearly just not working right. Now, the best “I got it, I got it” lament terms/advice that I can give you is, “Even a fool seems wise when he/she keeps their mouth closed and just listen”. Many others are ALSO going through the same thing, guy.

  • When you guys first implemented Track 2, which replaced the Commentary Track, the most welcome and important difference–to me, anyway–was the removal of the highly restrictive ten-track limit. I was able to make two videos with seamless, uninterrupted commentary which ran perfectly parallel to clips that were illustrative to the points I was making, or the topics I was discussing. As I transitioned to another subject, so did the clip being shown. Before, I had to make my commentary extemporaneously, remembering to talk about basic points, but having to essentially ad-lib and improvise–speak off the cuff, and try not to stutter or belabor whatever point I was trying to make. I made full use of those meager ten tracks I was afforded, but that limit was really holding me back. When it was gone, I was finally able to let my creativity flow. It was wonderful.

But then it came back. It had been a few months since I last made a video, and for some reason, that last update (before this one) imposed, once again, the dreaded ten-track limit. Does this update remove that limit, once again?

    • Stuart Platt
      Stuart Platt

Hey there. Thanks for the feedback. Track 2 (and when it was just Commentary) has always had a 10 clip limit. Over time we have increased the clip limit for the main timeline as well as music, but Track 2 has remained the same. Thanks!

  • These new “features” are 110% broken. I followed the instruction/forums as explained and WE ALL are getting the same message, which states, “Video I-Frame interval setting is not supported”. As a YouTubers, and Photoshop Expert (Hobbies), clearly I can tell that these features are broken. I was ONLY allowed to upload my custom intro and outro, but those are ONLY less than 30 clips, BUT, the “duration” states that we can OFFICIALLY upload videos starting from 1 second to 60 minutes. This new feature is broken. Also, one of the biggest offenses is trying to record face time (Recording with the PS4 camera) and after 4 to 5 minutes, the audio BREAKS synchronization with the video (Lips moving, voice lagging). Will a team be directed to fix these issue?

Hello. Thanks for the feedback. We take all feedback seriously. The I-Frame message relates to the number of key frames int he video. The Keyframe interval must be 60 frames or less with a recommended setting of 30. Have you confirmed your videos are within the range? As for the duration, the app does support up to 60 minute clips but is it possible you would then be exceeding the 2GB budget? I hope some of this helps. You can also refer to page 68 of the online manual for more info. The manual can be accessed from within the app or from the Live Area of SHAREfactory. Thanks.

    • One other thing to check is that “Keyframe Interval” and “Frames-per-second” are two different settings.

      – Frames-per-second is the number of frames displayed in one second. SHAREfactory supports 12-60, Exports at 30.
-Keyframe Interval (I-Frame) is the number of frames that passes until the next keyframe is generated. Keyframes are what you see displayed while you seek. More the keyframe interval, longer to takes to see an update onscreen.

SHAREfactory supports keyframe intervals, or I-Frames, between 30-60. If it’s higher, say 250, it cannot be imported.

DM me if you have any questions.

I’ve never used Sharefactory before, but this looks like a great time to try it for sure. There’s plenty of clips I’ve saved waiting to be uploaded.

  • When I record my face with the PS camera and play it back in track 2 I can’t hear myself, when I save the project exit the app and go back to my project I can hear myself, and when I finally render the video my lips dont sync right with the words that are coming out.

  • Really love ShareFactory to bits it is best streamlined game clips maker or editor on console today ( MS needs to change that Upload Studio)

The Features keep getting better and better , really excited to start using it more and more all these new games coming out .Keep up the awesome work guys

With the new Update I can’t upload to youtube and Its hurting my lets Plays. It keeps asking me to sign in to youtube but when I do and its shows it loading then It goes right back to the sign in page so it keeps repeating and wont actually upload anything… Is there a fix to this? Please Help……..
I have tried like 6 times to share my video and just as Im sharing it and Have signed in It goes right back to the share page and asks me to keep signing into youtube but never actually lets me share to my Youtube page…. Hello. Have you tried disconnecting and reconnecting your PSN account from YouTube? Try this. Thanks!

  • Stuart, maybe it was a happy glitch or bug, but I somehow made two videos with far more than ten tracks. The sad thing is, there’s no way to actually prove it to you, because I always delete my ShareFactory projects after uploading them to YouTube in an effort to free up disk space. So I guess I am now going to have formally suggest that the ten-track limit be either removed, or greatly extended. I actually found a way around it, but it requires me to make several successive ShareFactory projects with commentary, making sure that each one begins where the previous one ends, then exporting them to my Capture Gallery, so that I can THEN add them as clips to my ORIGINAL project. Being able to now edit my saved clips in ShareFactory–thanks to this update–might make this process a little less tedious, but I cannot imagine you guys ever intended for us to have to jump through so many hoops to just to offer better commentary quality.

  • I need help when i want to import vids i get that i need to make a SHAREFACTORY file and a videos file ……

Hey there. Have you created the SHAREFACTORY/VIDEOS directory on your USB drive?

  • shadic1234567890

I do enjoy the features but there is a couple problems with it, i’m currently trying to import my own clips that i recorded and it gives me the error: “Video I-frame interval setting is not supported” could i possibly get some help with this?

Hello. Thanks for the comment. The I-Frame message relates to the number of key frames in the video. The Keyframe interval must be 60 frames or less with a recommended setting of 30. There are many free tools out there to help you re-encode your videos. Have you confirmed your videos are within the range? I hope this helps. You can also refer to page 68 of the online manual for more info. The manual can be accessed from within the app or from the Live Area of SHAREfactory. Thanks.

  • With the new update I am no longer able to import music files from my usb. All my files on my USB say an uknown error has occurred trying to import the file. I’ve tried converting changing file formats to see what works but nothing works . It must be a code that allows the import to happen. Please fix this quickly as I have a YouTube channel that I’m trying to build up.

  • Also I forgot to mention. These mp3s were used before and imported before the update . Now im unable to import any of the mp3 files. I’m very knowledgeable and tech savvy if there is anything I need to do to get this workin again.

  • XombieRocker

You guys need to either fix or explain the video importing process. I have tried everything to make my videos compatible with ShareFactory. No matter what I do, I keep getting that d@#n I Fram message. I can’t find anything on the internet about how to set “I-Frames” on your videos. FIX THIS. Nobody can even use your new feature right now.

If anybody has figured out a way to set I Frames on a recording, I would love to hear it!

  • I would like to have the feature where you can create your own outro easier also I would like to have friends sending there clips and more new music

  • It really sucked having to dig up this old posting, concerning the PlayStation Sharefactory, because THERE’S NO DIRECT BUTTON TO HIT TO JUST SUBMIT FEEDBACK TO A SOFTWARE THAT DESPERATELY NEEDS A “FEEDBACK BUTTON” of its own! Anyways, the PlayStation Sharefactory is even MORE BROKEN thank’s to that “update”. Now when trying to use the feature “Add Track 2” there’s NO AUDIO PLAYBACK SOUND. And Please, don’t refer me to that Sharefactory manual, just go test it out yourselves, Sony and test your own education.

  • Nerdtime334

Loved how you guys finally added the ability to import videos and pictures. Some other cool I enjoyed was the clone clip button; now we don’t have to add clip whenever you want to replay a clip! Really love this app/software, it really helps with my YouTube Channel!
Some things you guys should add that I would like to see, and others too is:
    1.Text/Picture Animations
Maybe add an in, overall, and out animation to add effects with text!
2.Text Shadow, Glow, and Outline (Color Change Capable)
Add the ability to add a text glow and maybe a shadow that doesn’t necessarily be black. Maybe be able to change the color! Also add Outlines with color, this would be really cool!
    3. Start/End Zoom
The Pan Zoom option would be good if you want to zoom in on one specific part, but say you want to zoom from left to right, we could be able to make the zoom move, or make the zoom move in slow motion(if clip is somewhat small).
    4.Transition Time Limit
We should be able to change the transition time so that way we can make the transition slower(or faster). This would help because if you use this, you can make a clip fade out longer.
I really have faith for you guys in making this an advanced/best video editing software!
