Greetings, PlayStation Nation! The free PS Plus games for May are upon us, and we have something special for everyone. This month we have Tales from the Borderlands and Abzu on PS4.

First up: Tales from the Borderlands, a five-part episodic series from the experts at Telltale Games. Set in the unforgiving world of Pandora after the events of Borderlands 2, follow the journey of Rhys and Fiona as they are thrown together to recover a fortune they both believe is theirs.

From there, put your feet (Flippers?) up and relax with Abzu. Immerse yourself in an ocean full of life and wonder. Feeling stressed? This is the relief you’re looking for.

    Abzu is good, but Borderlands has been $1 or so, the PS3 games are about what the PS3 games have been like, and the Vita games have been in enough bundles for everyone remotely interested and many who aren’t to own them on Steam. I don’t know, maybe the Dodgeball is worth getting portability for. I don’t know anything about it, but I own it.

    Very happy with the PS4 games this month even though I already own Tales from the Borderlands. Been wanting to play ABZU for a while but could never justify paying for it to myself, very glad I held off. As usual I’m not too interested in the Vita selection but I recognize that I’m a late adopter of the system and most games I would want free have already been done or are still pretty new.

      So Bad “games” just watched them on youtbe… I mean dont we older “gamer” deserve some games? Just games for kids till 10years max. A game in wich JUST swimm?? Wtf ? A “game” in wich you just press some buttuns?? I hate this big pile of C. In games I want some action, sifi, story,rpg,… SOMTHING! If i will swimm i go to the sea and swimm not a M F game about it. Bahhhh so disapponted…

    Another “great” month…August is coming Sony! My sub is only for the free games since PSN lacks on it’s “Greatness” in stability. I think i’ll pass on renew my +. Thank you so much for your hard work making me rethink what the meaning of Greatness really is. Cheers!

    When is Sony going to drop one of the PS3 or Vita games and give us a free PSVR game each month? That would definitely help the install base for the VR headset a lot more than it’s helping the PS3 or Vita these days.

    Well, you almost got it right this time, if only you would have picked some decent Indies for PS3 and Vita, something like Neverending Nightmares, for example. But no, just more mediocrity. I’ll spend my money elsewhere again this month.

    ABZU was on my sale list so I’m happy to get it free. TFTB – haven’t played a Telltale game, so this will be a first for me. 2 free games? Sounds good to me!

    So .. A story book.. not a game.. and then a boring 3 hour indie title.

    I really Do not understand why we have to pay for internet.. buy a console … then pay to use our internet on said console. None of this makes sense to me.. but ok.. lets go deeper into this console world.. oh wait.. now sony supports using a mouse and KB in controller based games (hori tac Pro)… to completely ruin the balance and fair play, what else can we do? why not put out YET another console during the same console lifespan to milk money from people….. THIS … this right here, ALL OF IT.. is why there is absolutely zero reason to invest in another console.. ZERO.. go get a computer for the same price.. it will do more, run better. you only have to pay ONCE a month for your internet.. the list goes on.. These consoles have become such a joke it’s almost unbelievable.. but then again.. the proof is right in front of you so.. believe it.

    This is how you get people to stop paying for your products.

      I’m not renewing. I play online games on my PC (obviously no ridiculous fees there) and most of the games we get, I’ve purchased, and for cheap (making it not really that valuable if you can get the entire Borderlands series for $7 lol).

      That said, both of these are really great games. Plus can be great for some, but not their most hardcore fans. Which is why I’m perplexed they don’t have anything to offer us.

      Yeah, I figured out PC is the best way to go many, many moons ago. With how paltry and money gouging this console generation is, that’s simply more true than ever. I mean I suppose I’ll get a PS4 Pro but uh… not for it’s current price.

      I bought a PS4 pro for my kids fo Christmas this year. We did not have any console in the house, we were starting fresh. There is absolutely no way I could get a $400 PC that would provide a superior experience. I wouldnt have bought a PS4 that late in the cycle but a more powerful version that should play nice with higher res? Yes please! It made sense for some people even it didn’t make sense for you.

    I’m excited to play Abzu. I’ve already got Tales from the Borderlands but that is a great pick too for those who didn’t buy it yet.

    I’d really like to see Playstation change the format of what games are giving each month for Plus subscribers. I would be fine with losing one of the PS3 and/or Vita games in order to get a PS VR title. One of the things that got me to purchase a Vita was the fact that I owned a bunch of games for the system because of all the titles I had on my account simply by being a Plus member. I think this would also help entice players to pickup PS VR if they already new they had games to play on the headset.

    Also, I’d love to see at least one of the PS4 titles each month be one that was emphasized for it’s PS4 Pro support. Like including a PS VR title, I think highlighting games that have improved visuals and frame rate because they were made to utilize the Pro hardware might also get customers, like myself, to consider upgrading to the Pro sooner due to the fact I am building up a library of games that are meant to get the most out of the system.

    Anyway, I love the free Plus games each month. It is the main reason, along with cloud saves, I will always renew my subscription each year.

    ugh, already own these. Plus is getting kinda redundant. not worth $60 to play a couple online games and get others that are redundant.

    I wish we could get more titles with replay value. The EU is getting Alien Nation which is very replayable due to its multiplayer aspect. We got Drawn to Death but its really a sub-par game.

    Will enjoy tales from the borderlands and abzu. I hope the vita or ps3 games will be dropped soon from plus since it is an aging console with low traffic.

    Well this really sucks! I just bought Abzu! Which is a great game but really short! As for the other one Tell tell games are really fun too but always too short! Disappointed in this line up!!!!

    Looks like a pretty good list for the PS4 and even the PS3, but the Vita is really disappointing again. I’d really love to see the Vita get some good games through PS+, not these same crappy pixel games or utterly bizarre games that are given out month after month. There are plenty of great Vita games out there, why not have those once in a while? My Vita is getting rather lonely…

      Oh well forget what i said. I started playing dragon age origins (which we got for free last year) a week ago and i absolutely love it. Already bought part 2 and inquisition, i have much to do so alienation shouldn’t be that bad to play besides dragon age

    Once again, this a great month for PS+. Tales from the Borderlands is one of the greatest games available on the console. Read any “Best of” List, there it is. Abzu is unique experience, definitely worth a play through considering it’s length. Port Royale 3 is a promising business sim, granted, that’s not most people’s first choice of genre, but that doesn’t discount the game’s quality.

    I’m not that familiar with the other 3, Blood Knights, Laser Disco Defenders, and Type:Rider. But isn’t that the point? To put a spotlight on games that wouldn’t normally get one. I know I wouldn’t ever give those games a second thought, and now I’m going to be playing them for sure. As you all should, it’s a free game that someone, somewhere, devoted a notable amount of their life to.

    Step out of your comfort zone, take on a new experience, and stop being so negative.

    This is a very good lineup. A nice variety of games with unique styles. Full of games people normally might not try, but are definitely worth trying if the genre interests you.

    While I already have everything from this month I want, this is the type of lineup I want to see. :)

    Tales from the Borderlands is decent enough. That said, the complete season has been deeply discounted umteen times, so having that for a free game gets a yawning meh. I guess I’ll take the plunge with Abzu.

    Blood Knights for PS3 is a joke. It’s got a Metacritic score of 43 for critics and 4.1 for users, 16 reviews total. It’s an awful awful game. I bet that [far] less than 100 digital copies have been sold on PS Store in the last three years (not counting deep sales).

    I’m on the lookout for Mass Effect Andromeda as a decent spotlight sale this weekend. Did anyone else notice that it was listed (at normal price) as a spotlight sale for a few hours on Tuesday when the store updated?

    I’m like 80% sure Tales was either a psplus on ps3 already or like on sale for about 5 bucks once. I was exciter about alienation and then saw it was eu.

    Not a bad line up. Anything from Telltale Games is usually fun times, and Abzu is like journey I think, So that should be good too.

    Ps plus has given me some great games. There have been some I’m not a fan of but I know people enjoy them. The only qualms I have (and I know this has been brought up before) is when I see the Xbox free games

    Considering almost everyone i know got there pc wrecked by ms corrupt updates and the constant xbox incompetentance I Would be happy if mays games where a dog turd.       MAKE AN ACCOUNT FOR CHINA N JAPAN!!

      I rarely even do much online play, other thn MKXL, AND i bought it off amazon and the dummy send me a UK version!
      So im considering buying it off store while on sale..

      Im waiting for 26th, FRIDAYTHE13TH comes out ,cant wait..I preordered, and since they cant have my copy on that day, they even r giving me a digital…

      its only 40buck too!!

    Did not renew the subscription to plus this January… did not regret.
    Month after months of lame indie games.
    I don’t do multiplayer and mostly focus on single player campaigns, sally, even the sales are bad and repetitive. (and I won’t forget the elder scrolls sale)
    PS+ is the shadow of what it was 2 years ago… I feel bad for it and now is more expensive.

    Alright I mean Abzu is amazing geezous!!! But I kinda now wish I hadn’t bought it and waited for the free games haha… man it sucks because I already have this months games. Besides disco defenders which I’ve been wanting to get! It’s on the vita but it’s also a cross buy for the PS4 so it’s a win win mwhahaha and rider is also cross buy so honestly we get 4 free games for PS4 8) heck yes!!!!! I just feel bummed that I already have these PS4 games which kinda sucks lmao now I just wanna wait for June now lol ugh
