Bloody Zombies is a Co-op Brawler Coming Soon to PS4 and PS VR

There's no better way to knock out the undead than a punch to the mouth.

Hello! I’m Antony, co-founder and director at Paw Print Games. We’re an independent development studio based in Chester, UK, and last year we teamed up with VR publisher nDreams who created The Assembly and relaxation experience Perfect.

Today I’m very excited to announce that Bloody Zombies, a brand new co-op brawler, is coming to PS4 and PlayStation VR later this year.

In Bloody Zombies the city has fallen to the undead and all that remains are four lone survivors: Teller, Rei, Mick, and Eddie. These misfits must form an alliance to save the day and bash every brain that gets in their way.

There are loads of deadly zombies and bosses, who will use claws, self-destruct, and wield deadly weapons to tear you apart. You’ll need to change your tactics, customize your character’s skills, and perfect your freeform combat to survive!

You can play with up to three other friends, online and locally, to take on the plague of zombies and take back the streets. Work together to beat each level, and compete for the highest score to be the reigning zombie-slaying champion.

If you have a PlayStation VR headset, you can also immerse yourself in all-out brawl with an enhanced viewpoint designed specifically for the VR player. This enables you to lean in and look around each level like never before. Discover unlockable weapons, provide tactical support, and watch over the gore as the battle rages on beneath you.

For that extra kick, we’re exploring PS4 Pro support to enhance your zombie-slaying experience. We can’t wait to unveil more details closer to launch.

Any single player content? Looks like a fun game, can’t wait to see more about it

Thank you! You can play Bloody Zombies single player, and also co-op with up to three other players.

I have ok internet. It’s a bit weird and wonky so send me a beta code so I can test the online for you :P

Just kidding. I’d love to buy this game but quite frankly all my friends are poor and random with their money spending so as much as I’d like to pick this up to play with my friends, I doubt all 4 of us would own it.

Does this have the same soul as old school beat em ups? Like streets of rage, turtles in time, etc.?
Side-scrolling right? Kinda hard to tell from the trailer.

At the studio we’ve certainly been inspired by classic brawlers, especially titles such as Streets of Rage. We think of Bloody Zombies as a homage to the genre.

      Sold.. :)

  • How does the VR gameplay looks like? Is there any special feature? or does it looks like a big cinema? (Because it’s a 2D game)

    • Antony White

Good question. The VR point of view is much wider than the other players’ view, which means the VR player can provide tactical support, spot secrets, uncover unlockable weapons etc. You can also lean in and look around each level, which is something that other players can’t do. Bloody Zombies has been designed as a co-operative and competitive game between players, and the VR perspective enhances this.

  • look interesting. Is VR just for looking around, or can use VR for both beating up zoimbies and looking around?

    • Antony White

When you’re playing in VR, you can still play as your character (who will be wearing a little headset in-game) and beat up zombies as well as look around.

  • Rodregez-usa

So how does vr work can you still fight alongside your friends online/local. or is it like I can watch and point stuff out in vr but can’t control a fighter?

    • Antony White

You can fight along friends, either locally or online, as well as point stuff out, look around etc. So you’ll still control a character when you’re playing in VR.

This sounds great, man. Will be spreading the word on this one.

I would love to play a demo as I have been let down by games with the optional VR mode in the past. Did you guys spring for the Platinum trophy?

    • Antony White

Thanks for your question, I’m afraid we’re not offering a demo for Bloody Zombies, and we’ll be confirming trophies closer to launch.

  • Just want it to be fun. I like Dead Nation. It got really hard, though. But love the co-op to play with a family member. Don’t enjoy the online multiplayer much. Will definitely check it out.

    • Antony White

Thank you! If you enjoy couch co-op games then I hope you’ll enjoy Bloody Zombies.

  • The little headset on character in-game is a fantastic touch.

  • This seems very promising! There aren’t enough Brawlers and Beat Em Ups out there!

    • Antony White

Thank you! We’re huge brawler fans, so developing Bloody Zombies has been a bit of a dream project.

  • Neat art, love beat-em-ups, will check it out. :)

  • I’m gonna pass on this. T
he art of it looks cool but it has that janky looking “my limbs aren’t connected and flail independently from my body” animation, which makes it look more like some flash animaton game you’d probably play in a web browser that almost every 2D game does now.
Instead of characters that while still being actual sprites/handdrawn characters moved somewhat consistently with the rest of their body (Streets of Rage, Double Dragon, Final Fight, TMNT, any WayForward & Vanillaware game),

  • This is a really cool use of VR and shows once again you don’t always need a first person perspective. I would imagine this is less likely to cause motion sickness, since the controller is moving the character separate from you, and your head can move more freely.

I love local co-op, brawlers, and I’m excited about VR. So this seems like a great fit :-)

  • Hello, ill buy it. Can i try it out now? ill help find some bugs.

  • Which controllers will work with this game?
