Hi – I’m Antonela, Community Manager here at 505 Games. Today, we’re celebrating the launch of our action RPG sandbox title, Portal Knights, on PlayStation 4.

Portal Knights began as an Early Access project. A title that would be built with our community, for our community. To see our creation now on console is just super exciting for the entire team! We basically started off with a blank canvas. With a vision in mind, we began bringing the idea of Portal Knights to life, applied a layer of paint, then opened our doors to our community to get their feedback and suggestions. Over the last 15 months, we’ve been listening to our players, made changes and added a bunch of awesome new features in response. Now we have a painting to be proud of!

Community Feedback

Last month, we released a free trial on the PlayStation Store. The response from the community has been overwhelmingly positive and we’ve loved seeing what you guys have been up to and built in-game. You’ve really impressed us! Please, keep up the great work.

So… Before you continue your adventure or jump in for the first time, we wanted to give you a rundown on our top 5 things to do in Portal Knights. Everyone ready?

Create a Hero

Are you a Mage, a Ranger, or perhaps a Warrior? Pick a character class, name him / her, customise them using the dozens of options available and head off to Squire’s Knoll, the first island in Portal Knights. Level up as you take down enemies and bosses, assign attribute points to your hero, unlock powerful RPG talents, craft class-specific gear, weapons and much more.

Explore the Worlds

Portal Knights has a wide range of islands to explore, each with unique resources to find, quests to complete and enemies to defeat. Take on tasks assigned by the world’s NPCs and help restore the lands that The Fracture has taken over. Be prepared for changing landscapes in Portal Knights’ timed events and keep an eye out for seasonal events too.

Portal Knights

Build a Base

Protect yourself from Hollow Knights and store your loot somewhere safe by creating a base. With over 300 blocks and items available, pick an island of your choice and be as creative as you can be with your construction! Oh… And be sure to show us your builds!

Adventure With Friends

Don’t want to adventure alone? That’s OK! Portal Knights can be enjoyed in local 2 player split-screen, or online in 4 person cooperative multiplayer. Join forces to gather resources together, build together and take down enemies together! What’s more, you can start the game in single player, then invite friends along, anytime you like.

Take on the Portal Guardians

Get ready to take on the Portal Guardians, each located in their own unique areas on their own islands! Oh and if you like an even greater challenge, put your skills to the test against our Hard Mode bosses.

Portal Knights

Thank You

Once again, we’d like to say a massive THANK YOU for the incredible level of support shown by our community! You’ve all been amazing and going forward, we plan to keep on pushing. We love hearing suggestions and feedback from you guys, so please keep engaging with us!

Stay up to date with Portal Knights by heading over to our website and/or following our official PSN account. Simply Search for ‘Portal_Knights’ and hit that follow button!

  • As someone who has no interest in Minecraft, I really wanted to get Dragon Quest Builders, but the lack of coop put it off for me. This game, is pretty much what I’ve been waiting for – 3D coop Terraria. I want to craft my own stuff, but I have no interest in building, that’s what the coop part is for. My buddies and I played Terraria for hours were a couple of us went out to scavenge while one or 2 of us built our fortress. I want!

Hi – Thanks so much for the kind words. Co-op is a lot of fun in Portal Knights! :)

I really enjoyed Minecraft with my son especially Survival Mode. However, Dragon Quest Builders was a definite purchase until I found out it DIDN’T have COOP! I just couldn’t believe it! So, yes, unfortunately I didn’t buy DQB either, sadly. Hopefully in DQB2 which I am sure they will make will have COOP. Thank the gaming gods for Portal Knights, it’s going to be an Epic adventure with my son!

    • I have been playing this game since day one it’s really fun. I am a level 18 Ranger in I’m on the second chapter after killing the first boss the Worm Pit. The really sad thing about this game is that I can’t have a friend to play multiplayer because it crashes my game back to the dashboard every time and it shows up on thier end saying host lost connection. I can join thier games with no problem but they can’t join mine :-( I’d like to have them see my world and help me Kill Boss number 2 but no luck :-(

Still not available to buy yet. Xbox users been playing this since friday. Yet not available on PlayStation to purchase.

  • Does this game have local co-op or not? The PSN store description says 1 player, but the demo description said 2. (2-4 with PSN) Also, the launch trailer shows splitscreen…I’m so confused!

Hi – Yes! Portal Knights has 2 player local split-screen co-op :) If you wish to play online with friends, then you can! (Max 4 players, yourself included.) Hope that helps.

  • AntiClockClock

I hardly ever just spontaneously purchase games without doing heavy research but skimming through this short video and reading a couple of posts convinced me this was the right decision. On top of that PSN $19.99 price. I think my kids and I will really enjoy this game as they finally got out of ‘creative’ mode in Minecraft. Now on to some real leveling/adventuring with this game.

That’s so great to hear and welcome on board! :) The great thing with Portal Knights is there’s so much you can do! And you can play in single player, online with up to 4 friends (yourself included) or with a family member / friend in 2 player local split screen co-op. If you have any questions whatsoever about PK, drop us a message and we’ll do our best to answer. Thanks for the support!

Yes! This day has finally come! Just got my copy from Amazon! Playing it now and the game is wonderful. Well done, cannot wait for my son to get home so we can play some COOP! Thanks for the Golden Throne Pack, wasn’t expecting that. Thanks for bring this special game to the PS4!

Thank you so much for the kind words! Honestly, we’re so grateful to have such awesome community members like yourself on board. You guys are just the best! Hope you and your son have fun in co-op mode! :)

505 Games are the people who made Terraria? Wish I knew that earlier then I’d known it was a good game.

:) If you want to give Portal Knights a play, be sure to check out our free trial on the PS Store. We’ve opened up the first island for you guys to explore.

  • Do you have to pick one of the islands for your base or is there a separate map for your base? Also if it’s one of the islands can you go back to it anytime from whichever island you are in?

    • Antonela Pounder
      Antonela Pounder

Hi – You pick one of the islands as your base and you can go back to any of the islands at any time, regardless of whether it’s your home island or not. Simply open up the map and select any of the islands you’ve already been to. You’ll see an option to travel to it from there. Hope that helps! :)

When and how much is the standard edition coming out? I enjoyed very much the demo but I don’t ever beleive in deluxe editions etc… I like having the option to opt for it if I want to or is this standard with bonus??

  • I played this game for hours yesterday. It’s so charming and I really like the light RPG elements. Definitely worth the purchase!

That’s awesome! Thanks for the support and the kind words.

  • Sounds perfect for my boys to play together. This is a buy. I think you guys needs clarify your PS store page description though:

    1 player
Network Players 2-4 – Full game requires PlayStation®Plus membership to access online multiplayer

I passed on this at first cause this doesn’t sound like couch co-op to me. As you can see by the other comments this is kind of a big deal. Anyway thanks for this game. My boys are going to love this!

  • Soy_El_Guapo

Love the game from the short amount I’ve played!

One question, are you able to play online co-op with a local player in your party on split-screen? To clarify: three people, two local players on split-screen and one player over PSN?

    Thanks!

  • Loving this game so far and it’s a great fit for local co-op! I am playing this with my wife who isn’t a very serious gamer and she is really getting into it.

  • This game is getting worse now : ( Some of these portal events cannot be finished. Like the Orc Fortress I killed all the Orcs no treasure at all nothing there. I found the Ghost World entrance the other day and I completed it. I went to the Ghost World unlocked the Ghost World and it did not count at all. And those are just a couple of the problems I’ve encountered with the events :(
