PlayStation Underground Spins Up Crash Bandicoot: N.Sane Trilogy

PlayStation Underground takes the remastered version of Crash Bandicoot: Warped for a spin.

Dreams can come true! In our new episode of PlayStation Underground, Justin and I get our first in-depth look at Crash Bandicoot: Warped, the third and final entry in the Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy due out in June on PS4. And I’m delighted to report that, 20-odd years later, Crash hasn’t lost any of his charm.

In this episode, Game Director Dan Tenguay explains how developer Vicarious Visions kept the remaster’s overall look and feel authentic, while adding a host of refinements and quality-of-life improvements that will smooth out the experience for the modern gamer.

For the development of N.Sane Trilogy, Vicarious Visions started with level meshes (3D polygonal data) pulled from the original games. Then they built, and built, and built…

The process sounds painstaking, but the results were clearly worth the fuss. The visual upgrade here is just staggering — perhaps the biggest leap I’ve seen for a remastered title. And yep, PS4 Pro owners are set to see increased fidelity if they’re using a supported 4KTV.

Anyway, check it out for yourself and let us know what you think in the comments!

Crash 3 is definitely the best game of the bunch. Too bad Crash Team Racing is not part of the mix.

Can agree but Crash 1 comes real close.

Does the Trilogy offer any extras like old Sketch art work of Crash and other concept ideas for the Character?

Wish this was confirmed as exclusive forever, but it must be timed since Activision controls it (and we know from CoD and Destiny, they sure love to make $) and the ads and cover art never say “Only on PlayStation”. Over the last few years there were all these rumblings that Sony would bring Crash back (even get the rights), but hey, a remake trilogy is amazing and better than nothing! But if it’s not exclusive, then Sony helped get a fan-loved game on other systems – which isn’t necessarily a bad thing – but from my point of view, exclusive games help sell a console of choice. Especially if the game has one of your system’s most beloved mascots of the past. All in all, I’ll be buying this Day 1.

I bought this game about 3 months ago. I have never pre-ordered a game so early in my life….Sonic Mania was another exception. This is a really good year for the games I like!

It will remain exclusive because the particular license the game is based on is owned by Sony for the original games.

This was only possible with a deal between Sony and Activision. You won’t see a Sony title on any other platform.

Yeah I remember reading that explanation before. Time will tell if that holds true.

And PS4 Pro owners with a 1080p TV get nothing???

You should know by now that you should already be seeing improvements if a game has Pro support and more if your TV is HDR compatible. They’re pointing out that there is 4K Pro support, so you should still see a boost in 1080p.

Any chance of Crash Team Racing becoming available for PS Vita/PS TV?

Looking good! Will be interesting to see if this catches on with not only the folks who are nostalgic, but a new audience as well.

I’d also love to see Crash Team Racing make a comeback! But aside from that, this remake is looking really good. Hope the gameplay stands up.

Is Coco going to be playable in some CB3 levels?

On Warped there are chapters were you play with her riding the tiger and also riding the jet ski.If they kept it all loyal like everything they showed so far its bound to have those same parts with Coco.

Honestly it’s still hard to believe what Vicarious Visions managed to do with Crash…you could almost say they’re magicians cuz damn it’s just unbelievable. There are lil to none games remastered but if all were like this…I hope more devs follow the example.I’m a major Crash fan…lost count of how many times I beat Crash 1 and Warped…day 1 buy of course.

Damn it looks gorgeous,no matter how many times I see…it still blows me away.

PS:In the future lvl…I don’t remember that big enemy shooting rockets. But damn so far all gameplays are just like I remember.

PPS:I hope CTR is in the works.

Now just bring back the killer advertisements on TV and we’ll have crash back! haha! Seriously though. I REALLY hope it does well. I want to see Crash come back in a big way. We need more mascot type games of yesteryear. There are so many memorable characters from gaming-past. It’s great to see them make a resurgence (if done right). I played a demo of this recently and I have to say I was pretty impressed with the quality.

Oh man the first one is hard, I can barely get passed the broken bridge level on the original. I hope I can complete this trilogy.
