PS Plus: Free Games for September

inFamous Second Son & Strike Vector EX headline next month's lineup, along with a special bonus for PS VR owners.

Greetings PlayStation Nation and welcome to another PlayStation Plus update, this time for September 2017. This month is all about action, featuring inFamous: Second Son and Strike Vector Ex.

inFamous: Second Son is a fresh, open-world action-adventure story in the popular inFamous series. Set years after the initial installments, you’ll play as Delsin Rowe who unexpectedly discovers his own superhuman powers and must choose how to use them in a world where superhumans are now feared.

Next up is Strike Vector Ex, a competitive first-person aerial combat game. Choose a ship and get your blood pumping in one of the many game modes. Strike Vector EX is designed with new console-based controls and upgraded with new features and modes for PS4.

Update: An earlier version of this post featured an incorrect version of the September lineup. We have updated the list below with the final lineup for September.

Full Lineup

  • inFamous: Second Son, PS4
  • Strike Vector Ex, PS4
  • Truck Racer, PS3
  • Handball 2016, PS3
  • We Are Doomed, PS Vita (Cross buy with PS4)
  • Hatoful Boyfriend, PS Vita (Cross buy with PS4)

Monster Jam Battlegrounds, PS3
Hustle Kings, PS3
Hue, PS Vita (Cross Buy with PS4)
Sky Force Anniversary, PS Vita (Cross Buy with PS4 & PS3)

Here’s a bonus for PlayStation VR owners: PS Plus members in the US and Canada will also get RIGS Mechanized Combat League as a free bonus game from September 5 through November 7. RIGS is a first-person arena-based shooter developed from the ground up for PS VR. Set in the year 2065, it immerses players in an intense, all-action future sport that mixes elements from different athletic fields like combat sports, motorsports, basketball and football.

For those of you who don’t have PlayStation VR yet, we just announced a new PS VR bundle that includes PlayStation Camera for $399 USD (MSRP) / $499 CAD (MSRP). Also, the existing PlayStation VR Worlds bundle (PS VR headset, PS Camera, two PlayStation Move motion controllers and PlayStation VR Worlds) is getting a lower price of $449 USD (MSRP) / $579 CAD (MSRP). With more than 100 games available, it’s never been a better time own PS VR.

Also this month, PlayStation Plus members will be able to play Dead by Daylight from September 15 through 18 for free. Afterwards, members can save 30% on the game with an exclusive discount until September 22.

In the free-to-play realm, starting September 19 members can grab a Neverwinter Plus pack in celebration of their newest update: Tomb of Annihilation. The pack includes VIP time, a panther companion, and more. The Neverwinter Plus pack is available until October 16.

As a reminder, That’s You! is available as a free download (as is the Companion App, which you’ll need to download to your device to play) for all PlayStation Plus members through October 23, so if you haven’t checked out the game yet, now is your chance.

And there you have it! See you next month.

*PlayStation 4 system, PlayStation VR, and PlayStation Camera are required to experience VR functionality.

  • Damn awesome lineup for PS4 at least…already have both PS4 games though.Had Second Son since the day I bought ma PS4,I mean its a must-have for any PS4 owner…and damn bought Strike Vector some weeks ago in the sale but no problem.Rigs definitely makes up for them…damn what a nice surprise,I’m still far from getting a VR but this is truly nice.

PS:Damn would’ve been cool to get Hue and Hustle Kings.

  • Its a good thing I don’t pay for this service for the free games. I swear they get worse every month.

    • Lol, but you do pay. There is PS+ sign above your avatar

    • in reply to @Akmaljon

@bluekamikaze0807 said “I don’t pay for this service for the free games” meaning, that is not the sole, direct or only reason why he pays or has PS+! Lol at you for your reading comprehension skills! :)

  • Sweet misery! Back-to-back months where Plus is giving great games that I wanted to play, but I already own. I wanted to play Just Cause 3 and Infamous Second Son, so I bought them on sale. Now in August and September, they are both free with Plus. Here’s the kicker: I haven’t played either one yet, they’re both in my backlog. :( :( :(
Anyhow, keep up the good work, hopefully in October I’ll get one I don’t have. Please bring Child of Light to Plus. I played it already on PS3, but for some odd reason it wasn’t cross-buy. I would replay it on PS4 or PSVITA if it was free with Plus.

  • It’s disappointing the US does not get ‘Child of Light’ like EU does.

  • So I have a question about PSPlus I know that there is a Monthly Games but my question is When can we download or “purchase” the game when their available? for example my subscription started in the 12th day of the month do i have to wait for the 12th to be able to download the game?

    • No matter your subscription date games are always available on the first Tuesday of a month, around 11am-5pm eastern time. So it will be 5th on September

  • Hi, Thanks for your free game. but i can’t see free game of september… in my plus page only be just cause 3, that’s you and freedom cry. how can i get sep free games?

  • It’s Sept 2nd and I don’t see Infamous Second Son for free yet. When does it become available?

  • So its September second now does anyone know when the games will be available for free purchase

  • In my case I could download assasin’s creed this morning. Couldn’t find Infamous or hatoful boyfriend on Vita

  • Hi. Why havent the free games arrived at the ps plus here in Thailand

  • Thanks, I just purchased a 2TB HDD for my PS4 Pro and a 1TB HDD for my standard PS4 just to have extra space for these free games!

  • Wow, another month of terrible, 3 year old games, thanks playstation.

  • Ok I’m normally pretty liberal with PS + on game releases, but good lord (InFamous: Second Son) is from 2014, there can literally be no one that wanted to play it that didn’t play it already, me obviously being one of them. That game should have never been on this list, just saying. As for (Strike Vector Ex) never heard of it. Not bashing it though, because it does look fun, just not a air combat kinda guy. Now far be it for me to tell anyone how to do their job, but since this PS + thing is paid for by the people, I think it only fair the people should have a little deeper say in what games come out, even if it’s two crappy games (Not specifically pertaining to this choice) I would atleast be able to pick the lesser of two evils. I could say more about this program but i’ll leave it at that.

    • The problem with letting the players pick the games in a vote manner could lead to some games not being added. For instance with Second Son there are people who haven’t played the game, like me for instance. I just got a PS4 at the beginning of March of this year and I only have two non PS+ Games: Uncharted 4 and Crash Bandicoot N Sane Trilogy.

So there are most likely people out there that haven’t played it but want to cause either they don’t have a PS4 yet or haven’t got the money to buy the game.

  • I dont what is wrong but untill now my ps store for the ps4 did not get updated with the new games of the month i am in uae btw

  • Sept 5th and still don’t see inFamous Second Son for download, c’mon.

  • I was excited to get to download the free Sept games. But I was greeted with Strike Vector Ex showing up as $14.99 and not free as it is so listed. What is the deal?

  • What the heck? You guys removed Hue, the one game I was actually looking forward to, for another twinstick shooter and a ridiculous pigeon visual novel.

I guess I’ll stream infamous a little, but that’ll fall flat just like every other “big ticket” item that psplus hosts.

  • Thanks for the VR RIGS game!!!!!
    i really enjoyed the demo

  • yo inFAMOUS second son lit

  • Why are PS Vita Games Retro City Rampage DX and Claire: Extended Cut in the Free Games section? First they are not on the list above and the two games, We Are Doomed and Hatoful Boyfriend are not available for the PS Vita version on the website.

In the past if a game was offered for more than one console, it showed for each console. Did they do away with this and only show for one but it still is cross buy?

    • Came here to see if I was the only one with this issue. FYI if you go to your Download list it does show the Vita games available for download if you “purchase” the cross-buy versions. I’d take Retro City Rampage DX over a Japanese dating simulator though :)

  • If only I was in an alternate dimension and 12 years old so I could be interested in a Japanese dating simulator where you date birds, what planet is this?

    Honestly?

  • Stop charging us to play the games online that we paid you for. Sure! Lock the ones downloaded for “free” (not free) through PS Plus but don’t lock us out of the games we paid for. That’s just foolish.

    • Actually they don’t truly inforce this feature, just like they don’t truly enforce only playing PS+ Games when you have the subscription. I have run out of Membership before yet I still had games on my PS3 that I could still play (haven’t tried on PS4 yet).

The reason this is possible is decided by the publisher not Sony. A publisher decides if the game can be played with or without PS+ (if the game was free on PS+). This leads me to believe that publishers can also decide if their games that have an online feature require PS+ to access it or if they can do so without the subscription.

  • I am enjoying the bits where everyone suggests that it’s “free” while technically its not. A fine line. It’s only a -PAID- monthly license. You pay yearly or monthly for ps+, its only licensed out to you so long as your ps+ account is active. Anyways… truth be told, not a great line up.. prototype 2 kicked the snot out of any infamous game. Period. Second son pretty much felt like a dry and greezzzy steak left out in the sun to a crisp, jerky, so little meat.. :/ Just buy prototype 2. Xd.

  • But Thank you for the extra 6+ month ps+ sub.. appreciated! :D

  • Where are the Vita games?

  • Lazy month for PS4, I see. One game no one liked, another I’ve never heard of. Good work guys, you picked the ones everyone wanted.

  • Here is Europe we don’t have Vector in our monthly games and I’m disappointed in that.

  • Great! I bought infamous Second Son back when it first came out but had to sell it when I was short of money. This is a great opportunity to have it back once again! Thanks!
