Introducing the Mini Wired Gamepad for PS4

An officially licensed controller designed for younger gamers.

Anand Agarwal's Avatar Posted by Group Manager, Peripherals Marketing and Licensing, SIEA

We’re pleased to introduce a new controller from Hori, the officially licensed Mini Wired Gamepad for PlayStation 4, designed with younger gamers in mind. This controller is 40% smaller than the DualShock 4 and has a simple form factor with a flat design that makes it easy to fit into smaller hands. Best of all, the controller has a low price of $29.99 USD (MSRP) / $39.99 CAD (MSRP), making it a great purchase for companion play on games like Knack 2.

The Mini Wired Gamepad provides the essential functions to play most PS4 games while still providing a great gaming experience — that includes the right and left sticks, R1/L1/R2/L2 buttons, directional buttons, and action buttons. Certain touch pad inputs can be simulated via the left or right sticks.

The wired controller includes a 10ft cable, making for an easy plug-and-play experience. While this controller does not include some features of DualShock 4, including a touch pad, light bar, stereo headset jack, speaker, vibration, or motion sensing, it comes at a great value and helps open gaming to the whole family. Find out more about the gamepad here.

The blue Mini Wired Gamepad launches across U.S. and Canada this holiday. Let us know if you plan on picking one up for co-op in the comments below.

Price question: Can I connect it with the PS Vita and make it finally possible to use the remote play feature and have all the buttons??? That is a must! Please, I want to use the remote play feature one day!!!

This will be great for my son. He drains the battery so fast on his controller. And look at all the panzies crying about a wire and how their kid can choke if it gets wrapped around their neck. Society today is a bunch of panzies. All we had growing up was wired controllers…..

I think more people are worried about the consoles being pulled off a table/shelf and being destroyed..these panzie consoles ain’t built like they use to be.

Lol. Pansy is a pretty old insult. Never heard anyone other than my mother use it.

Would have been instant purchase for me if still supported being wireless because I do think my 9 year old daughters struggle with regular DS4 controller due to size and why they tend to stick with the Wii controllers which are more comfortable for their small hands.

If those tiny Wii controllers can be wireless, why not this?

This would have been really handy last week when my son “really had to go” but didn’t have time to set the controller down. Ker-plunk!

I think this is a great idea. I am not only interested in the controller for a secondary PS4 controller but I bet it could be a good PC controller as well.

Hey, I sure hope you follow this post up with another announcing the Sunset Orange DS4 will be sold in US! I’m buying 2.

What a great idea!
While I agree wireless would be nice I think the goal here was to keep it low cost. It may also be simpler from a plug and play perspective. No need to pair it using a pairing utility. Just plug it in and start playing.
It’s a simpler, lower cost solution for local co-op. I like it.

I’m so disappointed that this controller is not wireless. My girlfriend and our young nephew have small hands and I love it when they can play games with me. A smaller controller like this is the answer I’ve been looking for since I got my PS4 last year. However, a 10 ft long cable is not long enough to stretch from the console to the couch in my living room.

If you guys at SONY read this please, PLEASE make a smaller wireless controller.

Wait so the controller is not even half the size of the original controller and doesn’t have any of the original’s features either? Yet it’s priced at $30? I don’t really see how that’s worth it honestly. $30 is an ehh price but if it was like $20 I could see it being a justifiable purchase

Dear Sony,
First I wanna say that I realy love spending time with PlayStation, but… 2016 had a very, very nasty motorcycle accident (A beautiful YAMAHA) wich left me with paralysed right hand. Do you think it would be possible to play games like Fallout with this small controler using only one hand?
P.S. Lets hope after few operations/surgerys my hand will recover in upcoming few years

Dear Sony/PlayStation,
Can we expect a ‘Pro’ version of the Dual Shock 4 anytime soon that has things like longer better life, better wireless latency, replaceable d-pad analog sticks, updated Bluetooth, improved speaker quality, smaller LED so it doesn’t waste as much battery, etc?

Meh. Doesn’t really seem necessary. We managed to grow up with full-size controllers back in the day. Haha. Ever hear all the little snots in online games? Doesn’t sound like they are struggling too hard with the controller. I guess more options the better.

I love how half the comments are “hey, this is a great product, I’ll definitely buy one or more” and the other half are “omg Sony is so dumb, nobody wants this.” Maybe not everything is for you? Thanks for the reminder of why I don’t play online games with people I don’t know personally. Gamer douchbagery, yay.

Great idea! I barely use both of my ps4 controllers except for when I have friends over, so I can’t justify paying $100 for 2 new controllers but this is something I might look into.

10ft is LONG ENOUGH! I doubt I’ll run into any issues. Who would leave a small child unattended playing games? It’s meant for CO-OP so I expect to play with them. If the child is tugging the controller on purpose, then the child is not ready to play. Simple discipline! Just take it away so that they will understand it’s not OK to do that. The price is in a good range. I probably get one for myself since I stream the PS4 to my laptop almost every day!

What would you say would be the ideal age for using this controller? As a gamer I’m always looking for more ways to operate my consol more efficiently in order to increase my skills (as dumb as it sounds). I’m 15 and curious if it would be a good fit since it has a low cost that’s within my budget?

Just now pre-order my wireless controller at a nearby game stop. Can’t wait for this to come out and play with friends and family.

Wired controllers are not only unnecessary inconvenient and even dangerous (for kids) way to play. It might be impossible in many leaving rooms to use it at all. Or to sit on the floor. In few feet from large TV.
So, useless…
I would by one good official one. As well as pro/better version of original one. But sony probably will never make it ))
