PlayStation Store: January’s Top Downloads

Monster Hunter: World leads the pack, and a new category joins the fray.

Justin Massongill's Avatar Posted by Social Media Manager, SIEA

Your top downloads for January are here! Surprising nobody, Monster Hunter: World was the most-downloaded PS4 game of January. The first PS4 entry in Capcom’s long-running series launched to critical acclaim, and players worldwide (myself included) are hooked on its expertly tuned gameplay loop.

We’re adding a new chart to the post starting this month: Top Free-to-Play Games. Including these titles in the overall charts would skew things a bit since, ya know… they’re free, but with fan favorites like Fortnite and Warframe regularly pulling in big numbers it feels wrong not to have them represented here.

As always, the rankings here are determined based on number of downloads, not by revenue generated, and if you’re curious to try any of them out you can nab ’em over at PlayStation Store. Until next time!

R.I.P PlayStation 3. I just recently retired mine last month to make room for my new Nintendo switch.

Thus ends the reign of Rocket League. The other big surprise was Star Wars: Battlefront II coming in 11th. That game was a waste of a Star Wars license.

Glad to see the USA people avoid Gran Turismo Sport like The Plague, in terms of US PSN Store buys, for January 2018!!! When USA people rather prefer the multi platform Need For Speed series over Gran Turismo Sport, well then… Guess we all know now what is the better Racing game, and it’s not on Playstation!!! My advice is to spend $3,000 in a Windows 10 PC to find out what the best Racing racing game series, of the “Eighth Generation” is!!!

And yet GTS will outsell Forza 7 by the millions. Enjoy your micro-transaction filled arcade racer somewhere else. Or just wait till the fall since they milk that series for all it’s worth with yearly releases. People wonder why the game goes on sale for half off 3 months after launch.

Why did you get rid of the top DLC chart? Please bring that one back. I understand getting rid of PS3 as that platform is old at this point but DLC is very relevant today.

NBA live 18 may not be a top pick bc it isn’t 2k but for $7.48 I’m surprised it isn’t even on the list and now I think it’s only $4.49! People are missing out, that’s worth it even if it isn’t the ”great” 2k. Still a decent basketball game.
