Introducing PlayStation Classic, with 20 Pre-Loaded Games

Featuring Final Fantasy VII, Tekken 3, Wild Arms and 17 other legendary titles, the new mini-console launches December 3 at an MSRP of $99.99 (CAD$129.99).

PlayStation Classic

Almost 25 years ago, the original PlayStation was introduced to the world. Developed by Sony Computer Entertainment, it was the first home console in video game history to ship 100 million units worldwide, offering consumers a chance to play games with real-time 3D rendered graphics in their homes.

Today, we are excited to announce that we are bringing back the original PlayStation experience in a new miniaturized version – PlayStation Classic! The console will come pre-loaded with 20 classic titles, including fan-favorites such as Final Fantasy VII, Jumping Flash, Ridge Racer Type 4, Tekken 3, and Wild Arms.

The mini console is approximately 45% smaller than the original PlayStation, and it emulates the original’s look and feel by featuring similar controllers and packaging. Long-time fans will appreciate the nostalgia that comes with rediscovering the games they know and love, while gamers who might be new to the platform can enjoy the groundbreaking PlayStation console experience that started it all. All of the pre-loaded games will be playable in their original format.

PlayStation Classic

Available for pre-order at select retailers across the US and CAN, each unit will also come with an HDMI cable to connect to their TV, a USB cable, and two controllers for local multiplayer within compatible titles. PlayStation Classic will be available for $99.99 USD (MSRP) / $129.99 CAN (MSRP) on December 3, 2018 – a historic date for all of us at PlayStation.

Visit PlayStation.com for more details on regional availability, and stay tuned to the Blog for the full lineup of titles coming to PlayStation Classic. There are more fan favorites, and we can’t wait to share more details in the coming months.

  • Yo, I’m stoked to get to play some good classics from my childhood. Would like to see a full list some time soon though. Wonder how long these will be sold out for, the NES/SNES classics were sold out for a very long time in all stores; I’m just now seeing them in stock these days.

Really excited to pick one of these things up!

    • Can’t seem to edit my comment so I’ll just add a new one.

I really hope to find Crash Team Racing, Star Ocean 1 & 2 but most of all Star Ocean the Second Story and I can’t think of other classics I loved. But with FF7, Wild Arms and if we got CTR and Star Ocean I’d buy it for certain.

  • Gran Turismo and Hot Wheels please

  • LOL 130$can and I have to buy the power adapter separate hahahahahah! Bite me

  • Would love some Cool Boarders 2! Also, are the graphics upscaled?

  • When I was a senior in high school, my friends pooled their money together to get me a PlayStation and Final Fantasy VII for my birthday. Best surprise birthday present ever!

  • Brave Fencer Musashi please. It’s one of the very few games never released as a classic on any of the PlayStation systems. It would be very much appreciated.

  • Anyone know if it will play actual PS1 discs?

  • Got my pre order in – hope to see any or all of these:
    Philosoma
    Einhander
    Return Fire
    Twisted Metal 2
    Grand Theft Auto (1)
    Rampage World Tour
    Intelligent Qube
    Battle Arena Toshinden
    Need for Speed 3:Hot Pursuit
    Medevil
    Soul Reaver
    Driver
    Ape Escape

  • So we just gonna act like Pepsi man not a real thing?

  • *AC adaptor sold separately 130 bucks Canadian plus taxes environmental fees be close to 150 and I’ll still have to Pony up for an AC adaptor man that’s greasy

  • Include crash team team racing and I’ll buy it.

  • I don’t think I’ll be buying one. I still have a PSOne. It would be cool to play in HD though. There should be more than 20 games especially since it’s $100! For the same price you could get a used PS1 on eBay, memory cards, and a lot of used games. You can do better Sony! They should have made PSOne games playable on the PS4!

  • Maybe if DS3/4 remotes would work, could be worth it. These should be included with PS Now (mine just renewed for $100!). Would be nice if these were included…Twisted Metal 2, Destructing Derby 2, Tomb Raider, Castlevainia SOTN, and Resident Evil, just to name a few.

  • Abe’s Oddyssey puhhhhleeeaze!!! My whole family loves this game. Also a lot of social media likes that game too js

  • But I already got all these games on PS4…

  • Resident Evil and MGS

  • Please add Abes Odyssey! That was one of my first memories gaming on PS1! HAD ME CRACKING UP ALWAYS! id love to run through the storyline once more with my now 7 year old gamer!

  • Mega Man Legends and The Legend of Dragoon need to be in there. As well as Resident Evil 2 and Crash Bandicoot:Warped.

  • Are you f**king serious. NO POWER SUPPLY INCLUDED??

Who’s brain dead idea is that?

And seriously, you could only put 20 preloaded games? For the amount of money us PlayStation fans spend over the years, I know I have had every version that comes out. Now that we might want to buy your classic system with only 20 games seems to me, awefully cheap. You should have launched this system as a tribute or a big thank you for all the people who financially supported you throughout the years. That system should be loaded with every game that came out for the original system. I think we deserve that. And seriously, who ever decided not to include a power supply should be fired and his salary used to give free power supplies for insulting your loyal customers

And the prices for PlayStation plus and then other memberships are ridiculously over priced. I think you really need to re-examine your pricing models and how you treat your loyal customers. Don’t forget there are many other options.

    Seriously disappointed PlayStation.

    No power supply?? Seriously? Wtf

    • Yours is easily the dumbest comment in this entire thread. The unit is powered by USB, so you can plug it into literally any powered USB port. That includes your phone charger, your laptop, your tv, even your PS4 itself. Everyone has too many USB ports lying around. Adding one to this unit would increase the cost by about $5.
And what kind of idiot would expect them to include every single game ever released? There were over a 1000 games on the PS1 and you would need more than 500GB just to store them all (a 500GB SSD costs at least $80). And not only that, you can’t even add a publisher’s games without paying them a licensing fee for every unit sold. That adds at least another $2 for every game included.
You’re looking at a unit that would cost at least $2085 BEFORE the actual manufacturing costs of the unit and the controllers.

PS1 games are sold for $6 or $10 on the PSN. You’re getting a unit with 2 controllers and at least $120 worth of games for $100.

  • Best ps1 experiences: The Legend of Dragoon and Musashi. Would love if the console comes with Metal Gear Solid 1.

  • Valkyrie Profile please!!!

  • “*AC adaptor sold separately”
So where’s the link to buy the AC adapter?

  • why not the ps2 :(

  • Please for the love of God put, Bust a Groove in this

  • You guys do remember you had to buy the AC adapter separately for the PS One right? I think it’s just a nostalgia nod. And an easy way to cut cost.

  • This will make a great Christmas gift and will be near impossible to get the closer we get to Christmas. I pre ordered two. Thank you Sony!!!!

  • Will Tomb Raider 1 feature??!! Please can it?

  • And also silent hill and metal gear solid please.

  • well before every one gets pissed off they are going for retro gamers like me and i say it proud oh and te by the way the ac adapter y’all are so pissed about was so happily provided by nintendo so **** off u uneducated trolls

    • don’t live by the trolls sony, u already announced my 3 favorite games in their original content so my only question is where do i pre order

  • Will never forget how it felt going home for the Holidays playing #Syphonfilter #SilentHill. Where did the good times go? Definitely buying one.

  • I want this now!!!

  • uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh dose in come with metal gear solid if not its totally not worth it

  • Pretty cool but I’ll stick to pulling out the PS or playing the classics on my Vita/PS3 if the mood strikes. After all I’ve kept all my PS consoles along with some other consoles while also keeping a good majority of the games I wanted to keep.

  • My friend dropped of his PlayStation with Tekken 2, FFVII, and no memory for one week.

All because of him I bought my first SONY PlayStations and I enjoyed many games including King’s Field series (US), Deception. Tekken, Luna Silver Star Story Complete, and many more. All of which I can still “dust off” and enjoy today.

  • Bushido blade one and two would be enough for me

  • One of my favorites was Legacy of Kain: Blood Omen
I spent so much time playing that game.

  • What about syphon filter 1-2-3? Rock and roll racing? Shadow man? Twisted metal?

  • I would be beyond ecstatic to see final fantasy tactics. Easily my favorite game of all time. Nothing else comes close.

  • *AC adaptor sold separately .. WTF

  • Ojalá traiga el digimon world

  • I’m late to the party but not sure this is a good idea…you’re really copying nintendo this time around Sony but more importantly I doubt this plays PS1 CDs right?…it’s too damn small. It’s a nice collector item and I would buy it just for that cuz I have no reason for it since I still have ma PS1 here strong and going along with 150+ PS1 discs that I always kept.Made the dumbest decision ever to sell ma very 1st PS1 and ma 2nd PS1 more than 10 years ago but some years ago I bought another PS1 so if this Classic version does not play PS1 discs there’s no reason to buy it.

Also ma fav memory of PS1 are memories…playing countless games and having an insurmountable amount of fun with ma 2 cousins and ma dad…dying/failing and passing the controller, the good old multiplaya…those were the days.

  • I’ll dive in if they include Harmful Park :D Otherwise, I’ll stick with my OG PS1.

  • can you please release HARVEST MOON:BACK TO NATURE pleaseeeeeeee

  • Why would I buy this, if my original PlayStation One still works fine? I’ve owned two PlayStation 4’s, three PlayStation 3’s, and three PS2’s but only one PlayStation. You can’t kill it 18 years ago I bought it and still runs today! Wish I could say the same for the first couple of PS2’s and PS3’s I owned!

  • What lovely memories comes to my mind!

    Here goes my discoveries: Shoot’em-up’s! G-Darius, Ray Crisis, Gradius Gaiden, Squaresoft ‘s “Einhander”, Xevious-3dG, Polyphony’s “Omega Boost”(no sequel?), Commodore’s Team17 “X2” sequel.

Generation of rythim games: Vib-Ribbon, Parappa the Rapper/Um’Jammer Lammy ( disappointed PS3-POPS BTW), Konami’s Bemani with mat and controller: Dancing Stage series, Beatmania.

Instant-action appreciatted FMV-games: Galaxian, Megarace, G-Con:Time-Crisis, Creature Shock, Clock Tower or “D” (Escape room experience at hand)

AMAZINGLY-funny regardless the low-poly tech as Syphon Filter series, Doom and Quake II (Unreal?)… Contra-LoW/C-Contra Adventure.

Poorly regional distribution: Kojima’s “Policenauts”/”Snatchers”, “Kain” or “Macross” series!

    BTW whats the 3-letter code? PSX mini = PXM? PSOne mini= POM?, “Screenless-PSP” mini= (s)PPM? POPS mini=PSM?

Anyway, the best of luck to this new intercourse, ARM-HW and a 4/8Gb card-spaceto fit one 400/500Mb “AAA” multidisc PBPs? … Although i still wait GoW3 on my 1080p enabled PS2 (no pun, Sony) :D. Meanwhile, ill check if my tv-enabled PSP fits a 2.5Gb EBoot PAL-region of Final Fantasy VIII (!!).

    Cheers!

  • 1st thing popped in my head was GTA & GTA ll I just might be game if those games are on there.

  • I know that is never going to happen but one of the most underrated games that should be considered a classic and included on this is Vagrant Story.

  • I am assuming this won’t have Crash or Spyro, so I don’t think I’m interested. If you make a PS2 Classic though, I’ll be ALL over it.

  • I feel like I would’ve preferred you guys picking a selection of less well-known titles. For example, I can get FF7 on my PS3, my Vita, my PS4, my PC, and it’s being remade. I don’t need it on its own little console too…

What about some less well known games like Azure Dreams, Alundra, etc.?

  • Between the digimon and wild arm games, I’ve spend countless school days thinking of ways to advance or even plan on getting stronger.
