Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is less than one month away. In just a few weeks, this highly anticipated game will be in the hands of PlayStation 4 players around the world. Developer Treyarch has shared its plans to support the community with an active calendar of events and variety of free content once Black Ops 4 is released.

We are excited to announce that in our continued partnership with PlayStation, following the launch of the highly-anticipated game, PS4 players will get to play new Black Ops 4 content first on PS4. This means all the playable content coming to the Black Ops universe after the game’s release will come first to PS4, including new specialists and maps, as well as seasonal events.

Play New Content First on PS4

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 launches worldwide on October 12th. Following its release, Activision and Treyarch are planning an active calendar of events and variety of free content – across all three epic modes – Multiplayer, Zombies and Blackout – that will come to PS4 first.

Here’s just a sampling of what’s in store for the entire community for free following launch:

  • Nuketown: This fan-favorite map returns in November in an all-new take.
  • Specialists: The first of several new characters will debut in December.
  • Blackout: Launch day is only the start; Blackout will continue to evolve after launch with regular map updates, expansions and new Blackout modes.
  • Events: Seasonal, weekly, and time-limited events bringing new game modes and content to players.

Will there be new Blackout maps at some point?

Maybe at some point but I suspect that they are going to do something along the lines of what Fortnite does with an ever-changing map.

I would like to know whether the Blackout mode will be excluded from the Black Ops Pass?

I doubt updates to the current map will require black ops pass. But if they make another map, it possibly may be.

I’m wondering if black ops 4s blackout going to be free online just like fortnite is?

It will require black ops 4 in order to play. Not technically free. If you mean playstation plus, it will require it. Only free to play games can get around that, and this is not free to play.

Correction to the other reply. It’s not just free to play games. No Man’s Sky also didnt require PS Plus. Im not sure how many exceptions there are though, and Im sure Black Ops 4 requires PS Plus. CoD is probably the biggest franchise they have for PS Plus sales. Plus that is the type of announcement that would push preorders so they’d have said so at the start if it was free.

Hopefully a black ops 4 bundle can drop with this exclusive game. If so where can i get my limited edition console.

When are we going to stop doing these exclusivity deals? I’m a huge PlayStation fan but it really bothers me that 2/3 of the playerbase won’t get to experience new content for a while after it has been out.

Don’t get me wrong, I agree with you…. but xbox had the same exclusivity that we now get. I think it should be dropped though, let everyone get updates at the same time.

Xbox would do it all the time with Call Of Duty and every other game it could throw endless money at I say its our turn to get everything first you are wrong buddy!

I understand that marketing partnerships are a big part of the industry but these timed deals are badly viewed by us. blocking our XB1 / PC / Switch playing fellow gamers from getting content is a horrible practice that needs to die off. It was bad when MS made deals last generation and it’s bad now that Sony is doing the same deals.

if you want to have exclusive content then make some real content exclusive to each platform. PlayStation branded guns or skins. this can be beneficial to us PS4 owners as well as keep others on a different platform happy.

be a fan of gaming. not a fan of console wars

Well said. I understand that Sony wants to maintain an edge over other platforms but surely there are better ways than this?

We may gloat about having this kind of exclusivity but if – a big IF – Xbox dominates next generation, guess who will be getting screwed that time? It’ll be us. This kind of exclusivity is not a win/win.

Is there going to be split screen in blackout?

Why is there not more being said about the Hardcore mode? Here’s one question, is blackout going to be in Hardcore? Remember there are tons of Hardcore only players out there. Thank you

I don’t see why people are complaining about this we only have exclusive content for a week and that’s probably because there won’t be a story.
