We are excited to announce that starting today, you will be able to stream as well as download PlayStation Now games to your PS4 system so that you can play both locally and offline, all with a single subscription. Almost all PS4 games in the service, including Bloodborne, God of War 3 Remastered, NBA 2K16, and Until Dawn, will be available for download, in addition to the PS Now lineup of classic PS2 games remastered for PS4. This feature will be gradually rolled out to PS Now subscribers over the next couple of days, so if you don’t see the feature on your PS Now today, make sure to check back again soon.

Downloaded PS Now games will support all user-purchased DLCs, microtransactions, and add-ons, as well as PS4 Pro enhancements for subscribers using a PS4 Pro system. And remember, you do not need a PlayStation Plus membership for online multiplayer on PS Now – which stays the same for both streaming and downloaded games.

If you’ve already started a game via streaming on PS Now and want to continue playing locally on your PS4, you can transfer your save file from the PS Now cloud to your console with a PS Plus membership (sold separately). This is done by transferring the save file from the PS Now cloud to your PS Plus cloud storage, then transferring it from the PS Plus cloud storage to your PS4 system. Check out this page for step-by-step instruction videos on how to transfer your game saves.

Note that you will need to connect your PS4 system to the internet every few days to verify your PS Now subscription, even if you’re only playing downloaded games.

A quick reminder that there are a few days left to get in on our summer price promotion, which ends September 25. Try PS Now for a full month at just $9.99 (new subscribers only) with our special intro offer, or get a full year for just $99.99 USD. And if you’re a PS Plus member, you can take advantage of the exclusive discount on the 3-month pass for PS Now for just $29.99 ($44.99 regular price). Although note that in order to take advantage of the $9.99 intro offer, you will need to purchase that directly, as the 7-day trial will transition into the standard monthly subscription.

This is a great time to catch up on PS4 games that you missed or discover new franchises through PS Now. Let us know what you’re going to be streaming or downloading in the comments below!

  • Are we going to be able to download games to the PC from the PlayStation Now?

  • Almost got excited. I got the service a month ago to play god of war ascension, as I had missed it. But the graphics were terrible. Im unprovably sure that the stream came at “upscaled” 480p instead of 720p. The cutscenes stuttered. Being that the game was very focused on its amazing artwork, it definitely ruin3d the experience. I have 100mbps connection and 5mbps upload and I’m hardwired into a high end, non-isp, router.

I was looking forward to going through the god of war remastered collection, but now nevermind. It maybe I’ll give it a go on my PC. But to be honest, playing any game at less quality than originally intended is not good enough. I’ll probably cancel my subscription and hold out to see what ps5 holds for the service.

  • This is great news. Thanks for this.

Here’s hoping the library will continue to grow.

I’m hoping the following games will be added to the service:

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots
Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain
    Uncharted 4
    Uncharted Lost Legacy
    God of War (PS4)
    Horizon Zero Dawn
    Witcher 3
    Street Fighter 5
    Mega Man Legacy Collections (1,2, X1, X2)

    Please and thanks!

  • I havent Had any Problems with streaming games, but this is great for those that had a bit of lag. the service has been Improving so much I keep my $99 Sub. my nephew plays a lot of games since hes a huge gamer now.

  • Can we get Battlefield 1943!? and Bad company I love those games and don’t wana bust out the PS3 lol

  • Keep up the good work PlayStation. Glad to be on board. You guys just keep getting better and better.

  • Once you get Criterion’s Black up there on PS Now then you’ll have me!

    • I enjoyed Black’s gameplay back when it came out. One can hope after Dangerous Driving, Three Fields Entertainment might revisit making an FPS game that is has similar game design inspirations as Black (just like Dangerous Driving is a call back to the Burnout games).

  • Is this feature going to be available in Canada?

  • airJordan_Xx

cool feature but would be way better if you download ps3 games to

  • Nathaniel_Wu

I can’t see the download button in PS Now, guess I have to wait.

  • Already a PSNOW subscriber, so this is good news for me. Time to Push my External HDD to it’s limits. Might need to upgrade the 1TB internal at this point. lol

This is a great initiative moving forward that adds a lot of value to the service.

Understandably, PS3 support is a little more complicated due to its system architecture, but I would love to see more PS2 titles added to this service (and to the PS4 itself as well, of course).

Looking forward, it’d be really nice if PSP/PSV/PS1 titles started making their way over to the service as well. I know that once was the part of the initial vision for PSNOW.

And if PSP support ever does come to the platform, having 2 PSPs emulated on the PSP for local multiplayer would be a cool idea. (i.e – 2 player Monster Hunter: Freedom Unite, where it’s simulating Adhoc by way of 2 player splitscreen).

I love the work that’s been done to the service, and look forward to even more improvements moving forward with PSNOW. :D

  • Are games only ever added or do you sometimes remove games?

Do you have access to your cloud saves for both PS3 and PS4 games?

    • Brian Dunn

Hi – yes, you can access cloud storage for both PS3 and PS4 games. It’s sort of separate, so you have to go into a PS3 game to access the PS3 save file storage setup.

    • I have seen some games be removed. I have never played any of the Assassins Creed games and there were some on there when I first subscribed. By the time I got around to checking them out they were unavailable. But it appears to be infrequent that a game is removed. I wonder if it has something to do with the publisher or licensing. Overall I have been very happy with the service and I have been using it for over a year and a half.

    • I imagine it is like Netflix where they have rights to have certain games on for certain windows of time and then if those licenses are not renewed, they fall out of the library while other titles get added.

  • supertacoman12

So now we dont need ps plus for online multiplayer?

    • Brian Dunn

That’s correct, if you play the game within the service (stream or download) with a PS Now trial or paid subscription.

  • Does PS Now include cloud saving transferring? With PS Now the game saves are stored in the cloud. I know you need PS+ to transfer from PS Now to your system, but with this I would like to try out the game by streaming it first and if I like it then I’ll download it to my PS4. Hopefully one day Sony will make cloud saving free because that would help with a service like this.

    • I am sure that cloud saving will never be free overall as it costs Sony money, but if you are subscribed to the paid service the I would assume this is possible since the save is already in the cloud (and you have already paid for this feature in your subscription). I don’t have the download feature available to me yet so I cannot test this out. I do know that when streaming it will pick up your cloud saves from PS+ if you have already played the game before. This came in handy for me when I was away from home and my PS4 was off due to a power outage and I could not use remote play to play a game I already owned. I fired up PS Now on my laptop and I was able to continue from where I left off.

  • Does Play Now support in Argentina? I want it so badly to play without needing to add USA a count and make fake address even with my real credit card.

  • And PSnow in Spain? When?

  • This is really great news and a definite value add for subscribers. PlayStation Now is way more attractive as a service to me now. I’d personally love it if the library would include PS1 and PS3 though. Hopefully you guys are working on it. I can imagine a future where a new PS5 with PS1-PS5 digital library would basically rule the world. :)

  • Man, I hate that I have a 1 TB data cap with Comcast. :(

  • This is a big deal. Closest anybody on PlayStation can get to having Netflix for Games.

    • I agree. And the fact that it works with DLCs without having to purchase the game is pretty cool.

  • I like this, but we need more ps3 games like Dragon Age, Mass Effect trilogy Dead Space, Demon’s Souls, etc.

  • xxnike629xx

This is great, but honestly I’d rather we get remasters on disc for the PS4 and not this streaming or downloading a streamed version that you’d only have access to provided you have an active PS Now membership.

We need things remastered and released on disc like:

God of War Definitive Saga (or whatever you want to call it).
    – God of War
    – God of War II
    – God of War III Remastered (same PS4 version but patch it to have Pro support)
    – God of War Ascension
    – God of War Chains of Olympus
    – God of War Ghost of Sparta

    Muramasa Rebirth

    Uncharted Golden Abyss

Metal Gear Definitive Legacy Collection (or whatever you want to call it).
    – Metal Gear
    – Metal Gear 2
    – Metal Gear Solid Twin Snakes
    – Metal Gear Solid 2 Substance
    – Metal Gear Solid 3 Subsistence
    – Metal Gear Solid 4 Guns of the Patriot
    – Metal Gear Solid 5 Definitive Edition (same PS4 version but patch it to have Pro support)
    – Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker
    – Metal Gear Rising Revengence

  • Reign_of_Elite09

What about the real Battlefront 2 from 2005

  • royaicoffee

So now that you can download games why not make it available in Australia? I don’t mind not being able to stream. I just want the subscription to download and play these games.

  • Renegade-X2

Ok now add downloadable ps1 games
Get rid of the drm for ps now (because no one wants to pay for a service and cant use it because they had no internet at the time)
Re-brand PS Now as PlayStation Generations
    And it’s a done deal

  • Just give us backwards comparability already.

  • There is no download button, WTF ?

    • Give it a few days, it’s still rolling out, not everyone will get it at the same time.

  • I was interested until I saw that you can’t download PS3 games. Seriously, guys. I really hope y’all get this backwards conpability thing sorted out sooner rather than later. It’s the ONE thing that Xbox has on PlayStation. The fact that COD MW2 charged in the top 10 on the NPD this month is evidence enough that people use backwards compatibility. Stop making this needlessly complicated and please do the consumer friendly thing and let us use our playstation 3 discs to play Playstation 3 games.

    • 360’s architecture was not nearly as complex as the PS3, we might not see PS3 Emulation until PS5, if at all. But the CPU is definitely a bottleneck for PS3 emulation on PS4. 360 CPU was just way more simple, there was not much fiddling around done with the software as there was with PS3 to match parity with the generation.

    • ROARING_BBBBBB

The thing I don’t understand is how are people emulating ps3 games through j tag it’s just proves that it can be done but it’s Sony coming up with excuses to not work on giving us that feature

    • Uhh, PS3 games are not being emulating other than by the PC PS3 emulation software which doesn’t run very good and only on expensive builds.

  • Great idea but it’s a little late don’t you think. Plus it begs the question where are our other games we want I mean your direct competitor offers backwards compatibility unlike anything we have seen before unless of course you’re playing on PC. This just doesn’t compete with them.

The other issue is how you really want a person to transfer a save over from the PS Now cloud to the PS plus cloud and then directly to their system that’s a bit much. Sony should have pieced together a workaround for them where I can just download my save straight from the PS now cloud. After all if I can download a game from PS Now why can’t I download my stage 5 from PS now.

Sony you got to do better. I’m a PS fan for life but the competition is just coming up with ideas that we’re trying to catch up to.

  • Oh before I forget Sony you got to work on that pricing. Just make it $10 a month for an ongoing subscription. Get away from this staggered subscription model.

  • So in essence, I’m better off just having a subscription to PS Now over PS Plus? I mean I would be getting access to so many more games and I don’t need PS Plus to play multiplayer. It just seems pointless to have both or to even just have Plus, especially considering the deletion of PS Vita games (and PS3 if I remember correctly) being included as freebies.

  • Playstation Now is not available where I live. How about bringing Now to other countries, too?

  • VulkanSkunk97

When will it come to Italy? We’ve been waiting for years like other countries, I really hope you’ll fix it in the future as we improved our connections and now with the possibility to download some games too. Looking forward for an answer, thank you in advance

  • We are most interested in seeing Champions of Norrath and Champions of Norrath Return to Arms available to play on PS 4. Still limping along on PS 2 as they are the best games.

  • Thanks for adding this feature, it is apprexiated. I understand that for technical reasons PS3 game downloads on PS4 may never be possible and I’m fine with that. It would be nice if you guys could figure out a way to at least add surround sound support to the streamed PS3 games though (if Netflix can offer 4K UHD and Dolby Atmos streaming support with no problems, surely Sony can figure out at least basic Dolby Digital 5.1).

  • TechGnome7916

Nor God of war nor red dead redemption will be playable which makes it useless.

  • PatricioUSA

Finally, now the service is worth paying!
You got a new suscription over here!

  • DrearierSpider

Can PC/Mac users take advantage of this too?

  • Good move forward with PS Now. Next step should be letting PS3 games be downloaded to PS3. Streaming feature is not even needed on PS3. Just let PS3 uses have access to PSNow download library.

And, yea, final step should be unification of Plus and Now services. Now is becoming extension of plus subscription with current model.

    • They’re removing PS3 games from PS+ instant collection library, so it would be smart to allow the PS Now library to be downloaded.

    • They won’t be giving out PS3 and Vita games next year. Would be great to get PS Vita games added to Now(for certain games that don’t have very strict control requirements) and also allow those to be downloaded to the proper system as well as PS3 to PS3. it would the ultimate service

  • So can Australia finally use this service now? I miss some of the ps3 games and want to play on my ps4. Make the subscription available in Australia it’s long over due.

  • BlackSkull80

Should the game be previously streamed to enable download?, I got a subscription but not a single game is showing me the option.

    • Brian Dunn

      Hi BlackSkull80,

The feature is rolling out now and over the weekend. If you don’t have downloads for PS4 games yet, check again soon.

  • this feature isn’t available yet, why the hell you guys announce without full implementation
i’m wasting my free trial time

  • Updates like this make it difficult to look at other alternatives This is an amazing update to an already impressive service.

    • I think the worst thing about it is some of the games I bought and haven’t gotten to play are now available digitally with a service I really want. lol

  • And when comes Ps Now to Hungary?

  • devileye911

PS now is only available to USA and Canda. Why I should care about you it? first, make the service available to everyone then come and share the new update.

  • Toshiromaru

Will there be more ps2 games coming aside from the 50 that are already on there

    • There are only 13 on the PS Now service, 50 That are available from the store to purchase and download. More will be added to now and more will be given the same treatment(1080p and trophies)

  • Please, add PlayStation Now in PS3 for download the more 350 games ps3 :)

  • Please add PS now on PS3 so we can download more than 350 games on PS3 devices.

Add PS one, PSP, PSVita and PS2 games (available from the Store) to be downloaded on PS4. It would be a very good thing, a lifetime subscription.

    PLEASE

    PLEASE

    #playstation

  • Kid_Fleetfoot

This is an interesting turn of events. I saw the news a bit ago on Yahoo! As a not so much PSNOW User, I’ll have to look at it more carefully.
Who knows who might come up in the future.

  • I don’t see the download button on my PS Now. If games can be downloaded and played offline then there’s no problems with unstable internet connection, right? Or do I understand something wrong?

    • It’s still being rolled out, some people may getting it ahead of others. The game will act like one you have downloaded from the PS Store, it’s a digital copy and does not even need an internet connection for play(if it’s single player). PS Now will require a license check-in every few days and an internet connection is needed for that.

  • This is pretty cool but it would be even better if we could take our PS1 and PS2 discs and play them on the PS4… There’s PS2 compatibility built into the PS4 but Sony hasn’t unlocked it yet. The homebrew community revealed this a long time ago. I wish they would just make it official. There’s obviously a demand for backwards compatibility. Obviously the PS3 is out of the question because of the complexity of the system, it’d be extremely hard for the PS4 to emulate it.
