PlayStation Now Adds Downloading of PS4, PS2 Games

In addition to streaming access to a catalog of PS4, PS3 and PS2 titles.

We are excited to announce that starting today, you will be able to stream as well as download PlayStation Now games to your PS4 system so that you can play both locally and offline, all with a single subscription. Almost all PS4 games in the service, including Bloodborne, God of War 3 Remastered, NBA 2K16, and Until Dawn, will be available for download, in addition to the PS Now lineup of classic PS2 games remastered for PS4. This feature will be gradually rolled out to PS Now subscribers over the next couple of days, so if you don’t see the feature on your PS Now today, make sure to check back again soon.

Downloaded PS Now games will support all user-purchased DLCs, microtransactions, and add-ons, as well as PS4 Pro enhancements for subscribers using a PS4 Pro system. And remember, you do not need a PlayStation Plus membership for online multiplayer on PS Now – which stays the same for both streaming and downloaded games.

If you’ve already started a game via streaming on PS Now and want to continue playing locally on your PS4, you can transfer your save file from the PS Now cloud to your console with a PS Plus membership (sold separately). This is done by transferring the save file from the PS Now cloud to your PS Plus cloud storage, then transferring it from the PS Plus cloud storage to your PS4 system. Check out this page for step-by-step instruction videos on how to transfer your game saves.

Note that you will need to connect your PS4 system to the internet every few days to verify your PS Now subscription, even if you’re only playing downloaded games.

A quick reminder that there are a few days left to get in on our summer price promotion, which ends September 25. Try PS Now for a full month at just $9.99 (new subscribers only) with our special intro offer, or get a full year for just $99.99 USD. And if you’re a PS Plus member, you can take advantage of the exclusive discount on the 3-month pass for PS Now for just $29.99 ($44.99 regular price). Although note that in order to take advantage of the $9.99 intro offer, you will need to purchase that directly, as the 7-day trial will transition into the standard monthly subscription.

This is a great time to catch up on PS4 games that you missed or discover new franchises through PS Now. Let us know what you’re going to be streaming or downloading in the comments below!

  • Even before the download option, ps now failed cause it didn’t take into account of all the games members already purchased digitally from there ps3 and still ps4 smh. Why wouldn’t a game I already own digitally not be available to me on ps now???

    • Are you serious? That would mean every game would have to be available to be streamed… Because you’re not the only one they’d have to cater too. You do realize that they have to prepare their servers to support each game they add? it takes space too, also a lot of issues with licensing(who owns what). You ask too much.

    • Nobody in his right mind would want to play a game they already own, but via PS Now. Seriously, what’s the point.

  • Hello friends of this great community, only for those who would like to play this great title again (for me the best there was), what we are looking for is to get our voice to Playstation and request that they add another great game to the list of games PS2 compatible for PS4. Please leave your comments and if you know of another forum I would appreciate if you let me know. regards (dragon ball z budokai 3)

    • Yes Please Sony, add this great game !!!!
Dragon Ball Z Budokai 3 can not be left out of this generation, yet there is no game as true to the saga as this edition

  • If there is one game you need to get on ps4 from ps2 is battlefront 2 I would pay a whole 60+ for that game to be on ps4 please make it happen.

  • I just purchased ps now last night for this reason but I’m not seeing the option to download any games. Am I missing something here?

  • Excuse me if this is not a proper question to ask, but I just renewed my PS NOW subscription, and did not see the download button is it rolling out region by region or just random selection? I understand if you can’t answer at this time Brian Dunn, but I would appreciate it if you could.

  • Psn name change and backwards capability apparently is a foreign language to sony. Add cross play to that list as well.

  • That’s cool, but what about my PS2 games purchased on PSN to play on PS3? And what about my PS2 media discs?

    • Don’t know if they add classics, and definitely not the discs. The 13 PS2 games on there are ones they gave the 1080p and trophy treatment, not the classics.

  • No PS3 Games No Subscription. 100 Reasons on why it can’t happen (PS3 games on the now service) 200 reasons on why the service continues to die a slow death.

  • please add ratchet and clank 1-3 (PS2) and Crash Bandicoot (PS2)

  • No Guys what did you do with the new update! I can’t play PSnow on my PC now and PS4 at the same time! that was my main usage! I own 3 PS4s and psnow on PC allows me to play games while someone else watches PSvue TV on my PS4 account and now it kicks them off if I start a game! this sucks big time.

  • Doubt my comment will be seen, but I suppose I’ll comment about this update…

Thanks, I been looking forward to being able to Download the games from PS Now. Some people aren’t as lucky to have a strong WIFI connection. But what I have to say is why did you do PS4/PS2 games only? Is it because there were fewer games on the PS Now subscription so you just did those? On the PS Now you have mostly PS3 games, so I thought you’d start it with the PS3 games. Look forward to the response if any to this question.

Adding to that, I haven’t really gotten any problems with PlayStation Now. Despite everyone’s complaints about it not working after a week of your purchase. I only found one game that did not work on the PS Now subscription. And it was Brut@l. It was stuck on the “Transfering your data” screen and just kept doing it over and over.

Lastly, where are the PSP/Vita games? I feel like PS Now would have those as we’re paying a good amount of cash for a subscription for PlayStation games. Well, that’s really it. I hope you guys aim to improve, and thanks for taking the time to read a comment of a loyal customer.

  • no red dead redemption 1 :(

  • Cool so does this mean our games remastered will be in pure 1080p on ps4 slim?

  • When our you going to let us change our username this is boring the same name for years

  • Put Def Jam Fight for New York on PlayStation Now and u got a loyal subscriber

  • Does anyone wanna buy me PlayStation plus subscription USA please i beg of you anyone

  • I was excited to sign up to psnow, for RDR and Batman origins etc. But the lag is making the games unplayable, even on a fibre connection, so I’ve cancelled. Will the service be updated in any way to improve the playability of ps3 games?

  • Strangely, I was able to download Brave (a PS3 game) on my PS4 via PS Now. If you’re saying backwards compatibility is still not possible with PS Now, why was I able to do this?

  • I would rather have the app for free and pay for individual titles. There’s only 3-4 games that I would want. This is probably the dumbest product Sony has since Microsoft provides something infinitely better.

  • So does this mean if I were to get ps plus and download a bunch of games during my free trial and then got rid of ps plus that I would still have said games?
