No Man’s Sky Beyond Announced, Coming to PS4 Summer 2019

The next phase of No Man's Sky's evolution revamps the online experience dramatically, but don't call it an MMO.

Hello everyone, we know that there is a lot of hunger out there for news and updates on No Man’s Sky. We wanted to share some information from behind the scenes. Our next chapter will be called No Man’s Sky Beyond, coming Summer 2019.

Each chapter for No Man’s Sky has been more successful than the last. Thanks to our community, our large release last year, NEXT, was especially so. It went on to bring enjoyment to millions of new players, and it helped to change the legacy of this game we care so much about.

Earlier this year, while working on our roadmap of three future updates, we decided we wanted to interweave their features, and had a vision for something much more impactful. We are excited to announce that Beyond will contain those three major updates rolled into one larger free release.

The first component of Beyond we are announcing today is No Man’s Sky Online.

No Man’s Sky Online includes a radical new social and multiplayer experience which empowers players everywhere in the universe to meet and play together. While this brings people together like never before, and has many recognizable online elements, we don’t consider No Man’s Sky to be an MMO — it won’t require a subscription, won’t contain microtransactions, and will be free for all existing players.

These changes are an answer to how we have seen people playing since the release of NEXT, and is something we’ve dreamed of for a long time. We will talk more about each component when we know we can be precise, and look forward to sharing more in the coming weeks.

Beyond will be our most ambitious chapter so far, and something we’ve been working ridiculously hard on. We’ll continue to support No Man’s Sky in this way for the foreseeable future.

It’s unexpected but so rewarding to see so many accolades and nominations for No Man’s Sky as Best On-going or Most Evolved this year. To some NEXT may have felt like a natural end-point for our journey, but for us it was another step on a longer voyage.

Thank you so much,
Sean

Thanks Sean and the entire team for continuing to support this game. Would be awesome if PSVR support was one of those things being worked on as well.

  • Congrats to Sean, and the whole team at Hello Games. You all are a true example for the industry and I’m excited to see what Beyond entails!

  • Thanks to you and your team. Your continued hard work and dedication to your players is amazing… and unfortunately rare in the current game industry. Well Done!

  • This game has been one of my favorites since launch. Each step in its evolution has made me nervous that they were going to “ruin” something I liked. So while I was challenged that I had to start over and relearn a few times, and incorporate new things in my style of play, I have only grown in my appreciation of this game. Once again I find myself hesitant at an “online” aspect. I get enough of that through WoW and other venues, I am not sure I want that in my No Man’s Sky experience. That being said, it’s a big galaxy(ies) out there, and if I want to be a hermit, I am pretty sure I can pull it off.

I’d love to play in VR.

  • Wow this game is amazing! It’s insane what this game has turned into from launch! The NEXT update was truly remarkable and this new multiplayer update sounds amazing! But PSVR support would be tremendous! I could see PSVR taking No Man Sky to the Next level (no pun intended) especially with move controller support. If done right No Man Sky in VR could be incredible. Hoping the Beyond update is just as good if not better than the Next update. Nice work guys, keep up the amazing work.

  • Thanks Sean. I appreciate the team’s hard work. If I have one request and one request alone, it would be for an option to set the game to 60 fps mode without having to set my PS4 Pro output to 1080p.

If you’ve already added this in a prior update, you have my thanks, but if not, I politely request it for this Beyond update.

  • And the hits keep coming! Thanks Sean and Hello Games for continuing to build on this game in awesome ways :-)

  • Doesn’t require a subscription, so you don’t need PS Plus?

I’m in awe of the amount of elbow grease this game’s had since it’s release, No Mans Sky is your child, and no one can take that away from you

  • Beyond!

What are those 3 major features again?

Don’t let Xbox hold you back VR is the only update that matters and with multiplayer. Even if it opens up a dialogue battle about cross play to connect more players just do it.

    • Sony does not have a problem with Cross Platform when there are no Microtransactions involved

  • I commend you Sean Murray.
You made some promises in the past and because you were pressed for time you delivered the product not the way you intended.
People attacked you, citing your broken promises, but you never had intention to break the promises made. You kept on working on what you said, even though you did not have to, since the product was already sold.

Now we have what you promised and more.

I now have great respect for you and I will always check out anything you will do in the future.
