XIII: The Stylish Cel-Shaded FPS Returns in New Remake

Embark on XIII’s quest for identity when the game hits PS4 on November 13.

XIII is a first-person shooter where you play as “Thirteen,” a talented soldier who lost his memory and has been accused of killing the President of the United States. You first wake up injured and amnesic on Brighton Beach with the only clue being a small key and a mysterious tattoo that reads “XIII” next to your clavicle. It’s now your job to search for answers through a 34-level solo campaign. Don’t worry, you will find the appropriate weapon arsenal along the way. So many questions… so many bullets!

The original quest for identity started for XIII in 2003 on PlayStation 2. The video game sublimates the ups and downs of the most wanted man in the United States. It conquered gamers’ hearts mostly thanks to tight FPS gameplay inspired by the best in the genre, and its unique cel-shading design.

The idea for this remake idea came naturally, as we felt this unique kind of story-driven FPS experience was missing in today’s gaming landscape. Our goal is to bring XIII’s compelling story to a new generation of players with the best possible graphics and animation. The result will be nothing short of spectacular as we promise to celebrate the amazing work done on the original game. Stay tuned for more details.

XIII was created by Jean Van Hamme and William Vance, and is famous worldwide. It’s a real honor for us to work on such a masterpiece, and I hope you are as excited as we are!

  • I LOVED the original XIII on PC! Will the multiplayer come back? And don’t forget the ability to cook grenades! And the “goomba stomp” melee kills!

Weird. I have this game and played the entire game on the OG Xbox years ago. It really was mediocre and unrewarding.

      Welcome to 90s shooters.

…oh it was released in the early 2000s? Well they were still going off of 90s shooter game mechanics. Things didn’t really change until Modern Warfare.

Hmm Halo was in 2001, and Modern Warfare was 2007 I think it was during that period that we kind of evolved the modern shooter.

Uhhh no, Half-Life set the standard in 1998. This game was just purely mediocre.

Is this going to be multi platform?

  • I hope they bring back Duchovny to voice Fly if he’s still the hero. Loved the original XIII, excited to see it coming back.

This game was huge during my childhood. So excited for this!

Is this going to be the same exact game, or will the story have any changes?

  • I need timesplitters!

  • no lie, listened to the soundtrack CD a couple of days back and was thinking it’d be cool for a revisit or sequel on this one. Hope the soundtrack stays the same or similar. And gird yourselves for all the ‘they stole the Borderlands look’ comments from our younger gamers.

  • So… a remake, or a port?

  • WingcommanderIV

Rather see the return of No One Lives Forever.

You and anyone else who has actually played a decent amount of quality FPS games. Not too many, in other words.

I played through it on Xbox, then bought it again for PC. Really loved it. I have a good feeling about this remake & hope it sells decently enough to get a sequel, especially if this version will have the original’s ending. They should just keep the same great BGM for this one, along with the amazing voice acting. I’d miss Duchovny, Eve, & Adam West if their roles got recast.

Don’t you love the some of the pretentious, high and mighty commentators here. I actually rank the game highly as an FPS as well, no nostalgia, really liked it back in the day. Played it a few times over. Enjoyed the story, soundtrack, unique visual style, different environments, protagonist, mixture of stealth and general FPS mechanics. It was a challenge at times as well. I’m looking forward to the remake/remaster.

Nostalgia really does have an amazing effect. The game was absolutely nothing special.
