Players’ Choice: A Plague Tale: Innocence Voted May’s Best New Game

The surprise hit from Asobo Studio was voted last month's best new game by PS Blog readers.

Pencils down! PS Blog readers swarmed the polls this month to help Asobo Studio’s harrowing A Plague Tale: Innocence overcome the competition. Phoenix Labs scored a respectable second place debut with Dauntless, while Blood & Truth made sure PlayStation VR had a spot in the top three.

Alright June, you’re up. Share your predictions for the next poll’s winner in the comments!

We’ve got a big one for you this month! May 2019 was chock-full of new releases for both PS4 and PS VR. From the peaceful greens of Everybody’s Golf VR to the wild wasteland of Rage 2, there really was something for everyone last month, but only of them can be voted the best by PlayStation.Blog readers (that’s you).

We’ll keep the polls open until Sunday night at 11:59pm Pacific, so get those votes in before then. Better yet, since you’re already here, do it now! Go on, just scroll down a bit!

How does it work? At the end of every month, PlayStation.Blog will open a poll where you can vote for the best new game released that month. Soon thereafter, we’ll close the polls, tally your votes, and announce the winner at PlayStation.Blog. PlayStation Store will also showcase some top Players’ Choice winners throughout the year.

What is the voting criteria? That’s up to you! If you were only able to recommend one new release to a friend that month, which would it be? In keeping with our long tradition in the Game of the Year Awards, remastered or re-released games won’t qualify. Ambitious, larger-scale rebuilds and remakes like Shadow of the Colossus and Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy will.

How are nominees decided? The PlayStation.Blog and PlayStation Store editorial teams will gather a list of that month’s most noteworthy releases and use it to seed the poll. Write-in votes will be accepted.

  • Blood and Truth. =D

  • If you own PlayStation VR, you owe it to yourself to give Blood & Truth a go.

  • Blood and Truth for me, but Everybody’s Golf is a close second. I haven’t played Trover Saves the Universe yet, but hope to soon.

    • BrianMcGuinness

Just played it for an hour and it’s the most insane, funniest thing I’ve ever played. It’s so good.

    • I just got the platinum for Trover VR. If you are at all a fan of Rick and Morty, you need to play Trover. Super funny, fun simple gameplay, and it looks great in vr. I’m playing through Blood and Truth currently. May have to pick up Everybody’s Golf soon.

Voted for Dauntless. And I’m looking forward to seeing what else they add to the game in the future.

a plague tale innocence this game very good

  • Mercenary09

I really hope people don’t vote for Rage 2. It’s a hard pick for me personally this month as A Plague Tale, Blood & Truth, Trover Saves the Universe and Observation are all deserving. Slay the Spire and Shakedown Hawaii are great too.

  • kenball1980

Blood & Truth for game of the decade.

  • I voted for Blood & Truth because once I started, I played it a little more each day until I completed it and it kept getting better for me all the way to the end. I’ll be replaying that game to get more collectibles, marksmen targets, and higher mission score stars until I unlock that Minigun.

  • LastPlace09

    Trover Trover Trover trover

  • No game release other than Trover Saves The Universe ringled my shnudler this month.

  • ElektroDragon

    Rage 2, no question.

    • Mercenary09

Lol a boring open world and crap story is enough reason to question it. There’s a reason it has a score in the 60’s. So many better games came out in May.

    • MrOversoul53

      Taste is subjective ‍♂️

    • Sure but that doesn’t make my statement any less true. If he enjoys bad games that’s him.

  • Where are the anime games, Sony?

  • A Plague Tales is amazing … I highly recommend it

  • Blood & Truth, Everybody’s Golf, FNAF, and Trover… Lord give me the strength….

  • A Plague Tale w/o contest, it’s wonderfull and masterpiece

  • EnderMatter

Dauntless. Because of Monster Hunter World. But we need to draw out all the weeboos and people who want to be traps and play the game as a wannabe female when they’re not even female themselves. So basically a male tries to disguise himself with as a female character, therefore its a trap.

  • MrOversoul53

Honestly, having to choose between Plague Tale: Innocence and Blood & Truth is torture. Both are STRONG GotY contenders for me. They are both really amazing for different reasons. At the end of the day though… Plague Tale has a better story and less glitches.

  • I love narrative driven singleplayer experiences and A Plague Tale Innocence is up there with the best of them. Easily gets my vote this month. If it wasn’t for Resident Evil 2 remake and Devil May Cry 5 it’d be my Game of the Year to this point. A very nice surprise from the team at Asobo Studio.

  • I hate these polls – they’re 99% about who had the best marketing.

Unless you’re a professional reviewer – and maybe even if you are – there’s almost NO chance that you’ve played every game on the list (month after month) for even an hour, each. How do you know the one you tried (and loved) is better than all the ones you didn’t try? Whoever had the best marketing, leading to the best early sales, will get the most votes – simply because more people tried it, or want to try it.

I haven’t played a single game on the list – not one, this month – but I get the same vote each of the rest of you have.

    • It is a popularity contest from within the active voting population that visits the PS Blog. It isn’t about the marketing as much as it is about how many people that are active on PS Blog have played and enjoyed the games on the list this month.

I Voted Blood and Truth but I also love Everybody’s Golf. Great month for PSVR!!!! Looking foward to also playing A Plague Tale….

  • fanglespangle

Just Shapes and Beats! Amazing game. Highly recommend playing.

It’s a unique, excellently animated and very engaging rhythm game. It also has the 90s Mortal Kombat movie theme music on it for added awesome.

    >Not noteworthy

This poll and the opinions of the editorial teams go straight into the trash.

  • KidGreengene

I voted Blood & Truth but was very close to picking Plague Tale instead…

  • snowblind3855

A plague tale: innocence for me. The game is master piece

  • LEFT__4__DEAD__2

Dauntless, very good PVE free 2 play :)

  • JacobRat2000

I’m loving Dauntless I’ve been playing it non stop! I definitely recommend this game if you’re trying to have some fun monster hunting with your PC/Xbox friends because its cross console :)

    • EnderMatter

I hope you’ll realize how dumb it can be when you’re only hunting a single monster per quest and repeat, while nothing else happens besides hunting.

  • Shakedown Hawaii may not win but it’s amazing. Was one of the funniest games I’ve played in a long time and managed to be a blast to play.
