Square Enix Dives Deep Into Final Fantasy VII Remake Gameplay

New trailer revealed at Square Enix Live Event, with pre-orders starting on PlayStation Store.

Hey folks – tonight, Square Enix’s E3 2019 Live Event gave the world an up-close and personal look at Final Fantasy VII Remake. The game will also be playable starting tomorrow at Square Enix’s E3 booth.

Tonight’s presentation kicks off with gorgeous recreated scenes from the original game’s iconic opening, featuring fan favorite Aerith Gainsborough and stoic mercenary Cloud Strife.

During the show, producer Yoshinori Kitase revealed that the first game in this project is expected to ship on two Blu-ray discs, and will greatly expand on the story of Midgar. Kitase also pointed out that the game would serve as a perfect starting point for newcomers to the world of Final Fantasy VII.

Then, the presentation shifted to a detailed walkthrough of the game’s combat mechanics, including a revamped ATB system and an all-new Tactical Mode, which slows time during battle and lets players perform actions by selecting options from a command menu.

These are noteworthy details; from what we saw, it seems Remake will empower players to choose between a strategic, methodical play style (Tactical Mode) or fast-paced combat with spells and abilities executed through hot keys.

The gameplay demo transitioned to an action-packed battle, where the player switched between controlling Cloud and Barret in order to take down the massive Scorpion Sentinel — an impressive re-imagining of an iconic boss battle from the original game.

Scorpion Sentinel battle completed, Remake Director Tetsuya Nomura walked onto the stage and thanked fans for their patience. He then ended the Final Fantasy VII Remake presentation with a trailer showing a first glimpse of fan-favorite martial artist, Tifa Lockhart, and an announcement that the game is available to pre-order now.

Final Fantasy VII Remake is coming to PS4 worldwide on March 3, 2020. Pre-order from the PS Store to receive the Cloud & Sephiroth Dynamic theme today, along with the Chocobo Chick Summon Materia DLC when the game launches — links below.

  • Tifa looked great. Glad you guys at Sony didn’t try to pressure Square-Enix into nerfing her.

We know how prudish you’ve been with censoring japanese titles lately.

I’m dubious about the combat system seems like teamates are AI controlled which is always a death nail

  • Deluxe here I come!

  • Lord-Immortallix

Thanks for making them nerf Tifa Sony

    • Umm you do now Square “Nerfed” Tifa with advent children ages ago right? or maybe you just want something to complain about :/

    • She wasn’t nerfed, thank god she wasn’t censored.

  • I am very much read for March 3rd. Time to run through this story again with today’s technology.

    • Also, if you’re worried you might get an unfinished product due to the fact that they are splitting the original game into episodes, worry not. The original 1st disc had hours upon hours of exploring and side quests and they say they are adding more to it and there is already enough. If they are able to stretch the original story to be more in depth, I am all for it.

Unless I am misunderstanding this Disc 1 will be Midgar and Disc 2 will be the rest of the game???

    • Most likely. It is like the Xbox 360 version of Final Fantasy 13, which it has 3 discs as the console does not have blu-ray.

    • The fact that this game, which is only the first part, has 2 discs means that this game will be huge!

    • Hi there, not at all actually. Both discs will have a portion of the game. Almost like how the OG FF7 had three discs, they are remaking each disc of the old game a separate game. At least, I’m hoping that there will be 3 games to complete the remake, for nostalgias sake. But if it ends up being 4 or 5 I dont blame them. It’s a huge game. And with the way its turning out, I will proudly support however many games they need to complete it. Cuz if they rush it or dont take all the time and space they need, it could end up incomplete. This remake changes everything about how remakes should be done. This is it.

Least its two games at most but how many GB’s total for disc 1 and disc 2? Also i love FF series, been hook to it since i was kid growing up with it. Can’t miss single FF game ever. Hope that FF16 will come out someday.

Tifa looks terrible. Just compare the remake to the original gameplay footage on YT. She’s definitely had severe digital reduction modelling. Why is Sony so hung up on making Japanese publishers censor or edit female beauty?

Why is gore acceptable over beauty? Why are realistic animations of death from guns okay over beauty? Ten of thousands in the US die from gun violence every year. Yet Sony apparently has no problem with violent games. How many died worldwide from seeing a digital and non-nude depiction of a voluptuous woman?

    • The_Dragon_Mage

Maybe they’ll make some sort of True Tifa DLC for $15?

    • Well, she is still beautiful, regardless of her dimensions. I actually really like her design, which I consider much more natural and realistic.
I hope SE doesn’t give in and change her. She is perfect the way they made her.

    • Ugly feminists get a sad when beautiful women are depicted with large features. Everyone cheered when the Tomb Raider movie featured a woman who was not well endowed but a super model in the top 1% of beauty. She does not look anything like an average woman but since her cup size is more average its all good. Maybe its their repressed fears of motherhood? Its just nonsense why super beauty in one dimension is acceptable but not others. Its all the He-Man vs Barbie debate- unrealistic anatomy is ok on a guy but bad on a woman. Double standards that only favor what women like.

    • KaosEternal

Are you all seriously complaining about a video game character’s tit size? I could have swore the focus was the story and gameplay. Not how much the females jiggle when they move. Good lord

  • Is PlayStation Live doing something in place of E3? I didn’t see any announcements yet. Thanks.

  • Outta_Bubble_Gum

holy crud, cloud looks amazing. aerith looks amazing. their scenes were so cute. i cannot wait to see more

  • Tifa & Cloud got the same damn nose

  • KaosEternal

I wonder if they will release the demo on PSN? There were some earlier reports saying that there was supposed to be a demo after E3

  • I can’t thank you enough. Literally blown away with tears and memories.

  • KillsTheLight

Not a fan of the game being re-done in episode format, just another way for Square-Enix to squeeze all the money they can out of us. They will charge at least $60 an episode, more when the come out with a collector’s edition for each episode. After the FF15 debacle, I don’t trust Square-Enix.

  • Falconesque-c97

Always be Aeris to me. Twenty some years later, here’s hoping they still leaving playable-character naming up each player.

  • Tifa,Aeris,Cloud & Barret,Too coooool,WOWEE ZOWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
