No Man’s Sky: Beyond Out August 14, Adds PS VR Support

Envelop yourself in the universe of No Man's Sky, playable in virtual reality for the first time.

Hello everyone, we know that there is a lot of hunger out there for news and updates on . We’re very excited to be able to share more information from behind the scenes.

Our next chapter, No Man’s Sky: Beyond, is coming on August 14. That’s very soon!

Beyond will contain three major updates rolled into one larger free release. These changes are a mix of features we’ve been dreaming of for a while, and a reaction to how we have seen folks playing since the release of NEXT.

While in No Man’s Sky you have an infinite universe to explore, we know that the moments players talk about the most are coming across another traveller at random and adventuring together or landing on a new planet only to discover the remnants of another explorer’s habitat.

Watching these moments has inspired us to create an expanded Online experience will bring a radical new social and multiplayer experience which empowers players everywhere in the universe to meet and play together.

While this brings people together like never before, and has many recognizable online elements, we don’t consider No Man’s Sky to be an MMO. It won’t require a subscription, won’t contain microtransactions, and this update will be free for all existing players.

Meanwhile, VR support will bring the entire game experience to life in virtual reality. Grab the joystick and thruster to fly your starship over an unexplored alien planet as you peer out of the cockpit at the view below. Reach into your backpack to grab your multitool, touch it to switch to terrain manipulation and carve out intricate shapes with unprecedented control. Play in multiplayer and casually wave to your non-VR friends or fist bump your PS VR peers. Anything possible in No Man’s Sky, NEXT or any other update will soon be ready and waiting as an immersive and enriched VR experience.

Beyond will be our most ambitious chapter so far, and something we’ve been working ridiculously hard on. We’ll continue to support No Man’s Sky in this way for the foreseeable future.

We look forward to sharing more in the coming weeks. There’s a bunch more to talk about and we can’t wait for you to join us on August 14.

  • Rock on, Sean. Thanks for not giving up on this awesome game!

  • Thank so much to Sean and EVERYONE at Hello Games! I’ve put hundreds of hours into your game since launch across multiple saves and I have never been more excited for a game, let alone one I’ve owned for years already. I’m gonna start a new save to experience the game fresh in VR!

What are you talking about? Such negativity and ill will is very unwarranted at this point. Hello Games has kept supporting and expanding the game to the point no one can fault them anymore for what they have accomplished. They delivered 8n spades so please don’t be a troll. Don’t think that writing it in Portuguese in the English site is going to let you go unnoticed.

  • This is great news! Looking forward to trying VR mode.

    Hello Sean,

This is simply amazing! Thank you and your studio for all the amazing work. I look forward to what you have in store for this incredible game when the PS5 comes out.

I wanted to ask if you and your studio would consider making a new Dynamic Theme” (or couple of them), as well as some more “Avatar” pictures. I love the ones you had at launch of the game, but it would be cool for some more.

Thank you again for bringing us an amazing experience to enjoy!

    Cheers!

This is going to be amazing. Thanks for all the support for the game Sean.

  • I hope this is a turning point for the game in general as the support and passion for this project has been unparalleled. I seriously hope this allows Sean to start thinking about paid DLC as NMS could become a platform like Minecraft after the amount of quality content that has been added to this over the years.

I disagree Paid DLC is not needed they are doing well with the free updates. Paid DLC would split the player base too.

Is there any chance we could get confirmation or whether or not it will have support for the 3dRudder motion controller? I know a lot of people have said that 3dRudder support for No Man’s Sky Beyond would be a huge selling point for them, and it would make my year.

If there isn’t support, is there any chance it could be added in the near future?

Regardless, I am extremely excited for this update!

  • Thank you all for your hard work and continued support! I’m VERY excited to experience this game on VR. You and your teams efforts at making No Mans Sky the best it can be, is simply amazing!

  • I, and my PSVR, are so ready. Bring on BEYOND! :-D

  • I cant wait to see space in VR! Thanks Hello Games.
