PlayStation Now Subscriptions Start at $9.99 Monthly; GTA V, God of War, More Blockbuster Games Added

Grand Theft Auto V, God of War, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End and Infamous Second Son comprise a new range of marquee titles available for a limited time.

PlayStation Now is the first and only console game subscription service that uses cloud technology to deliver an unprecedented breadth of games through streaming and downloading. Today, I am truly pleased to announce new updates to the service that take our subscription gaming efforts to the next level.

Starting today, PS Now will be offered at a more compelling price that is comparable to other entertainment streaming services on the market. Current customers will see this new pricing reflected in their next billing cycle. The new prices will be:

  • US: $9.99 – monthly / $24.99 – quarterly / $59.99 – yearly (from $19.99/ $44.99/ $99.99)
  • CAN: $12.99 – monthly / $34.99 – quarterly / $79.99 – yearly (from $19.99/ $44.99/ $99.99)
  • EU: €9.99 – monthly / €24.99 – quarterly / €59.99 – yearly (from €14.99/ (N/A)/ €99.99)
  • UK: £8.99 – monthly / £22.99 – quarterly / £49.99 – yearly (from £12.99 / (N/A) / £84.99)
  • JP: ¥1,180 – monthly / ¥2,980 – quarterly / ¥6,980 yearly (from ¥2,500 / ¥5,900/ (N/A))

We currently have the largest game library of any console game subscription service, with more than 800* games available. Starting today, we’re adding more blockbuster content that includes some of the most highly played and critically acclaimed PS4 games ever. Check out the first wave of new content below, which is available for three months.

  • God of War
  • Grand Theft Auto V**
  • inFAMOUS Second Son
  • Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End

These games will be available from October 1, 2019 until January 2, 2020. Each month, the service will add a new selection of marquee games that will be available for a limited period. The marquee content is on top of the existing offering of popular evergreen titles that are added to PS Now on a regular basis.

Since PS Now’s expansion earlier this year, we now cover 19 territories and 70% of our PS4 user base. This provides an opportune time for us to begin our first global marketing campaign for the service, including the first-ever PS Now TV spot:

Using our cloud gaming technology, PlayStation Now offers choice to subscribers with how they want to access their gaming content. Gamers can choose to stream hundreds of PS4, PS3 and PS2 games available on their PS4 or PC devices, or download more than 300* PS4 games on their PS4 system. Some downloaded games support DLC and other user-purchased add-ons, as well as PS4 Pro enhancements. Seven-day free trials are available for new customers.

We’ve been in the cloud gaming business since 2014, and we have had many key learnings along the way to ensure we deliver a service that meets the needs of gamers. We want to thank all of you in the PlayStation family for being on this journey with us, and together, we are excited to push cloud gaming forward as the world of gaming continues to evolve.

*Content library may vary by region
** Grand Theft Auto V is available to download and stream via PS Now at launch; Grand Theft Auto Online and Rockstar Games Social Club will be available for users that download GTAV at launch. Online features, including Grand Theft Auto Online and Rockstar Games Social Club, are currently only available in the downloaded version. Update: Online features are now available for the streaming version of Grand Theft Auto V. However, the Diamond Casino mode is currently only available in the downloaded version.

  • You should really consider add more ps3/psp/ps vita games, more jrpg/rpg, games like Nier, Folklore, Trails in the Sky series, Dragon Age, Mass Effect etc.

    • Totally agree.

    • I actually liked the service when it was running on the ps Vita … Once they took it away I’ve never subscribed to the service again .

    • HumanAbandonware

PS Vita and PSP games would be a waste because the service isn’t on either of the platforms.

    • I agree also. Emulating the psp wouldn’t be difficult on the ps4 (now ps5). Since they do remote play (as well as touch pad on ds4) they could take advantage of using both to do Vita games. Psp games emulated on the ps4 may work in the same manner SNES games work on the Switch. play psp games on my TV full screen, it’s not bad and jrpgs look great still.

    • kind572pear

Wait if I have gta downloaded and is in my library, And the time is over will I still be able to play it?

    • kind572pear

I wold love if they added RDR2, Skyrim and HITMAN 2 FULL PACK or the older ones

  • Given that I already have 667 digital PS4 games and I do not take advantage of PS+ games, PS Now isn’t for me (neither is Xbox Game Pass). However, I can admit that PS Now just got a little better.

For a long time the PS3 version of God of War 3 was on PS Now but wasn’t available to buy digitally on the PS3 PS Store. Please allow PS3 users to buy the PS3 version of God of War 3 digitally from the PS3 PS Store. I believe if a PS3 game is on PS Now, then I should be able to buy it digitally on the PS3.

  • How does the limited time game period work? Like if you don’t finish the game during that period, you can no longer play it?

    • Probably, the game will be out of the service

This marquee selection which are limited in time, is probably here to have big recent games from third party publishers which will be added on a monthly basis

    • HumanAbandonware

Yes, you would have to buy it to finish it.

    • The same happens when your PS Plus subscription expires: the game will be locked until you buy it or renew your subscription.
By the way, not only with PS Plus but any other service you sign up.

  • Is there any sort of timeline for rollout in the rest of Europe? (I’m talking about Czech Republic, Poland, Baltic countries, Russia…).

  • Please, bring the psnow to Brazil, We want this.

  • The last piece is to allow Sony First Part games to be released on the service at launch. Just like your competitions game pass.

    • I fail to see how that’s a sustainable business model. Services like Netflix can’t even make money, yet you’re going to tell me giving out games for $2 for 2 months (the only reason I have GFG atm) of brand new first party games [usually selling for $60USD a pop] is sustainable? I don’t see it.

Unless they just want to bleed money, then again PS Now is likely to do that forever.

Short of getting a ton of subs who never actually use the services at all.

    • mrdigitalghost

@Elvick_ it is as sustainable as any other service offered. The fact that you “fail to see” that way doesn’t make it true. What is true, though, is the fact that you are advocating for a corporation, and not for more consumer benefits.

  • extrasafeivy

Is this in addition to our usual 10 games a month? I wouldn’t want these marquee titles to replace what we get already. As much as big titles are great, in most cases if I want AAA I’ll buy them at launch. I like Now as it allows me to try games I wouldn’t usually buy or wouldn’t be prepared to buy in traditional forms. Also as Plus has become more AAA focused, Now allows me to access digital indie games that seem to be missed more recently.

  • extrasafeivy

Just reread and saw it is added content. Missed it first time around :D

  • At some point, PS Now and PS+ will just need to merge and become one subscription service. This is the way Amazon rolls out new value propositions under their Amazon Prime banner. It allows them to increase price of Amazon Prime and it allows more of their users that already have Amazon Prime for shipping to try out Amazon Prime Music or Amazon Prime Video or other such benefits.

  • This is great keep up the great work SIE.

  • GaMeR_bOi_83

You guys are on the right track but add more of those PSOne JRPG’s. Some PSP games would also be fun. This new price is perfect though. I may subscribe for the yearly plan again.

  • ChaseHammerJ

So its at the price it should have been at the start but with the “limited time only” a thing I will never use it. Removing games from the service is a step backwards.

  • earth_inheritor

This is a massive improvement over the previous offering and now it might actually be worth having even though i have a massive collection already.
Adding vita titles would be an easy sell too. I always wanted to play Persona 4 golden on a bigger screen.

  • I refuse to pay for a service to play PS2 and PS3 games I already bought last gen. Let me play my owned games on my PS4 without an extra charge.

    This is utter BS

    • They’re different versions of the game even if they’re the same game. People are so entitled about games… nobody expected to get a DVD, Bluray, Digital copy and free streaming just because you bought a VHS decades ago.

Yet here we are. I do want b/c though, but the PS2 games on PS4 are not the same versions and the emulation used is different.

And the PS3 games don’t even run natively you silly, they’re complete ports since the cell architecture doesn’t work on PS4 since there’s no cell and it’s not strong enough to emulate that dumb thing.

  • Nice!

  • Can you play PS4 games on your PS3 with this service? What happens with games that use the touch pad thingy?

    • DarkwingChuck

PS Now is only available on PS4 and PC.

    • You used to be able to use PS3, but it was cumbersome since there was no stand alone app and you had to launch games through the PS Store which runs terribly on PS3.

Sony in their lack of vision removed the option. Like Darkwing mentions. Also removed it from Vita and Smart TVs.

Because streaming works best when you can only do it on two things. Brilliant!

It’s not like they could have added downloadable PS3 games if they had kept supporting PS3 or anything. That would have doubled the value for people who don’t want to stream the games but have a PS3.

But what do I know. I’m sure PS Now was doing great which is why they’re cutting the price.

  • thechetearly

Great idea! I just got my first EVER PlayStation a few months ago (4 Slim) and honestly, it is AMAZING. I’ve loved Nintendo for years, and still do, but you guys are honestly and objectively crushing it.

  • KevinIronside

I couldn’t understand it well, there will be only triple A games for limited time from now? What will happen to indie and small games?

  • HomerStewieRoger

    When exactly does it start?

  • I’m in!

  • Kaptain_Arabia

Just let us download Ps3/PSP/PSVITA games on PS4
    like Ps4 games on PS:now
    :(

  • I already own all 4 of those games they are adding. Not only that, the year price is now cheaper than what I paid for my year of PS Now. This is good for most people but not for me. Maybe next month there will be a game I want to play and don’t already own.

  • This is a huge step forward for PS Now. The service was already a better value than any other gaming subscription on the market, due to offering both Streaming and Downloads, but it lacked some big titles to draw peoples attention. Now with a constant stream of more current AAA titles and the new lower price this should really start to intrigue a lot more consumers.

One thing I would really have liked to have seen was the addition of Playing on iOS over 4G. Vita was the best platform PS Now has ever been on, but since there seems to be no effort from Sony to deliver a quality Mobile PlayStation Platform, the least that could be done, is to offer streaming on iOS, especially with the recent Dual Shock 4 compatibility that was just mentioned on the blog yesterday.

At any rate this is a very positive day for PS Now. I already felt bad paying $19.99 a month for all the content I had access to. Now at $9.99, this just feels wrong.

  • I hope this doesn’t mean we won’t get mainstays out of AAA games… I mean we already have stuff like Red Dead Redemption, God of War (PS3 games), The Last of Us (or it was there), etc. Will we get fewer of those now for this lame limited thing? I sure hope not.

Please update the PC app to be up to par with the PS4 app.

  • TheGorillaKilla

Love the price drop, it was sorely needed when compared to Xbox Game Pass.

But I don’t like the “blockbuster content” feature you guys introduced, especially if it’s gonna end up replacing the 6-10 free games we usually got every month. Adding games that you’re gonna take away a couple months later anyway just defeats the entire purpose of getting PS Now. The whole point of even getting the service was that we would be able to play these games PERMANENTLY through PS Now, or at least play them for years to come.

Like other people in the comments said, I hope this isn’t the new way you guys introduce new additions to PS Now because if it is, then I’m holding off on getting PS Now again after I decided to not renew it & erase it from my PS4 this past month.

  • UltiGamer500

    1. Add every older PlayStation exclusive
    2. Add more PS4 versions of PS3 games
    3. More complete and special editions of games (Games with their DLC included)
    4. 1080p Streaming
    5. PS Now mobile app for android and iOS smart phones and tablets (PS Now and 5G)

Every PlayStation exclusive that’s at least a few years old should be PS Now. Not saying brand new titles have to be there. But there’s no reason why all of PlayStation’s legacy titles arent on PlayStation’s service. Games like:

    Jak & Daxter, Jak 2, Jak 3, Jak X (PS4 Versions)
Ratchet & Clank Collection and Deadlocked
    PS All Stars Battle Royale
    Twisted Metal Black
    Resistance 1 & 2
    Gran Turismo 6
    The Order: 1886
    Uncharted Lost Legacy
    Fat Princess

    • Thedarth420

      Ps2 games i needs added
      The suffering 1&2
      Both matrix games
      Predator concrete jungle
      Hulk ultimate destruction
      Dbz bt3
      Ps3 games
      Dbz burst limit
      Dbz raging blast 1&2
      Pixel junk all of them

  • So…. This hasn’t been asked.

Sense I already have a PSNOW yearly sub, do I get more time tacked on the end of my subscription next year because it dropped in price?

Seems like the only fair way

    • Sad to say but they probably won’t do that

    • reubensitos

I am on the same boat. I wonder if they will do anything about stacking time so it makes sense or if we just threw money at them. TBD I guess….

  • Die hard Sony boy for life.

However this is a little late. PlayStation Now was overpriced to begin with and let’s be honest price only came down because of the whole Xbox game pass. Even with the lower price you got some work to do Sony. Game Pass still looks like the better offer. Don’t get me wrong I’d like to play the PS3 and PS Vita games in PlayStation Now but I can’t. I’m only stuck with the PS4 content most of which I purchased already and the other portion of which I don’t really want to play. I’m normally not one from mirroring the structure of a competitors idea but every Sony exclusive really should be open to PlayStation Now. I actually understand it’s more difficult for Sony to do that because profits for the company are based on game sales whereas Xbox can rely on Microsoft for money but you got to do what you got to do. You also got to go get more 3rd party titles for PlayStation now and they need to be newer titles not old stuff. I hate to bring up the competitor but they’ve got third party 2019 titles in their lineup we don’t really. You got to bring your A game for this one.

  • DoWork5_Goat_God

Since there’s really no new golf games out, and since Tiger is somewhat back relevant, could we get some of his old games up for streaming please, i know somebody out there has to feel me?

  • This is why Shawn left.

  • PlanetCheat

It’s been a blast being subscribed to PSNow. These new marquee additions and lowered price just make it all the sweeter.

  • Great price! I’ll be subscribing now!

  • So no more permanent releases? Just limited time offerings like Xbox Game Pass and Netflix? I’m very disappointed.

  • Price is way more reasonable now. Cool work.
(Bring back the Vita. Vita 2?)

  • PauloBrunelli

GTA 5, stopped working on my account!!!

  • Could you please add more classic games? Like the Ratchet & Clank HD Trilogy, like you did with the Sly Trilogy? I can’t use my ps3 anymore so I can’t play them. The Jak HD trilogy would be good too.
