PS4 System Software Update 7.00 Launches This Week

Featuring new Party and Remote Play enhancements.

Our latest software update for PlayStation 4, version 7.00, is launching this week worldwide. This update includes new functionality to key system features including Party and Remote Play features.

We revealed a number of features included in the newly enhanced Party prior to its beta earlier this summer, and here are all of the details that PS4 players can look forward to experiencing.

Party Feature Update

For PS4 fans who love to play alongside their friends or other community members, the Party feature has been rebuilt to include new features and services including:

  • Maximum number of Party users increased from 8 to 16
  • Network connectivity improved
  • Audio quality improved
  • Accessibility support with Chat Transcription has been added (US Only)

Within the Party feature, you will experience better network connectivity and audio quality. The improved back-end now improves network connectivity and allows users to overcome connectivity issues previously experienced when connecting with other users.

Lastly, the Party App will also offer a new Chat Transcription feature for US users via the PS4 Second Screen App on your smartphone or other mobile devices. The new feature supports US English and converts party voice chat to text, or enables you to enter text that is read aloud to other party members. If using your mobile device to connect to your PS4 during a Party, you will now see a new Party tab has been added where the new functionality is available.

Remote Play

For those who want to stream select PS4 games on mobile devices, Remote Play can now be used on smartphones and tablets running Android 5.0 or higher. Just download the PS4 Remote Play App from the Google Play store to use the feature.

Meanwhile, for iPhone or iPad users, the Remote Play App has been updated so you can now display the controller at all times and lock the screen orientation.

Also, players will be able to use their DualShock 4 wireless controllers via Bluetooth for Remote Play on an Android, iPhone, iPad, and Mac. All you need to do is update to Android 10, iOS 13, iPadOS 13, or macOS Catalina (releasing in October) to use this feature.

As a reminder, a PS4 system with a wired connection via a LAN cable is recommended.

Whe?? I want to try the remote play in android 9

    • None of this is useful for me,and I’m surprised this is a whole number update. I can’t believe after all these years, trophies still don’t automatically sync to our profile. Is it a network limitation? Will it still be an issue on PS5? And I would pay good money to move apps from the TV & Video tab to my own folder. That whole thing is so sluggish and redundant.

    • ReachStarkUS

You can do Remote Play on Android 9. Android 10 is required if you want to use Dualshock 4 in wireless mode.

    • Have you ever try

    • ollie_uk_2008

      @KwietStorm

Trophies do syn to server automatically when you earn them… be like it for years

    • Me too, I have a galaxy S8. The only way to use my ps4 controller is to buy a S9 or S10? That’s awful. Sony always a disappointment. Disappointing every gamer.

    • @ollie_uk_2008 Yes and no. They do not sync in the background as you obtain them (as XB1 does, for example). Yes, they will “auto-sync” if/when you open the trophies app on the PS4, but the process should be “cleaner”. I don’t think it’s a huge deal, but it is a fair criticism that this clunky process still exists in 2019.

    • I don’t understand. I could have sworn I’d connected my phone to the DS4 wirelessly before. Maybe I’m thinking of the Xbox One S controller only. I’ll double check on lunch.

    • @NsacCDT you could buy a Pixel 3a and get newer software for less.

    • Sad thing is I used to use remote play fine on my note 4 years ago using a third party app, I could use the ds4 as well. Until sony patch blocked it to be spiteful or try and force their phones on us

    • batman100325

You can I have it to by the way

    • crazy171shepherd

Why cant we play with ds4 on lower android versions? I cant buy a new phone with version 10 after spending on ps4 and games. Pls update the firmware so that we can use ds4 on lower android versions. Otherwise its useless

    • So i can connect ds4 to my android 8.10 phone, I can play android games that support controllers with it but I need android 10 to use it with remote play
      Somebody explain.

    • xXiTzGodZiLaXx-

Hey does anyone know how to use ps4 controller on remote play on Samsung s10 plus

    • Remote play is available on Android 9. You just can’t use a DS4 controller until Android 10.

    • Playstation always comin thru with HEAT!!! LOVE this new update!! FINALLY get to enjoy gaming from my phone ANYWHERE!!!!! GREATNESS AWAITS!!!

    • Is it just me or is anyone else all of a sudden not able to talk in a chat party since the update? I’ve been dealing with this since yesterday.

    • bright-larva

Yo my PS4 somehow got corrupted because I didn’t update it anybody else experience this cause I’m very angry abt this man ??

    • tangy-change

Bruh the same thing dude said down there happened to me my PS4 corrupted today saying it was a system error and something abt it not being cut off the right way wtf yo

    • Please make it to where you can put YouTube or Netflix on the main menu rather then to always select media, it would save so much more time and is way more convenient just pressing it once then twice to access one app.

  • Excellent work on supporting remote play on all Android devices. Even better that it works with Bluetooth, but I would also request that it would work with Bluetooth without the proprietary adapter on Windows especially now since that adapter is no longer sold.

    • The USB is still being sold. It’s pricey though. Connecting the controller with the charger is your best bet since it comes with the controller.

    • That’s a Microsoft problem, not a Sony problem. Windows 10 needs to be updated to support that as macOS now does (or at least when Catalina drops this month).

    • broncogursky

Hey fwiw you don’t need a special adapter. I was able to connect my controller through the Bluetooth adapter in my Wireless mouse/keyboard setup. If you have a BT receiver of any sort then you just have to get them to search/sync up. Good luck!

  • Vita Remote play still means life.

  • MarcusTheQuasar

the update isn’t rolled out where I’m at yet
plus the remote play app isnt on the google play store on my moto g7 either

    • Not out yet. It says the update will come out this week but not an exact date.

    • forevercloud

Same. Sifting through the Play store on my Moto Android 9 phone and I don’t see the app.

      What gives?

    • AgusGamer559

I’ve found the app searching “PS4 Remote Play” on Google and then entering to a Play Store link which appeared there. By the way, it says the app is not compatible with my cellphone. We’ll have to wait, and hope they let us use it with our cellphones.

  • What do I look forward to? How about a fix for the connection issue on MacOS that so many people complained on Twitter and you didn’t care about? It’s been MONTHS that we cannot even start a remote session.

  • Queen_Of_ThornsX

Well could we also get an update on the share play like longer timers instead of an hour lol

    • SZRT_CIC_Ice

Yeah, and for it to actually work for people w/ good connections? I’m the only one able to even stream via shareplay out of most of my online friends from around the continent.

    • @SZRT_CIC_Ice

Do they actually have a great connection or just claim to?

You need around 10 Mbps UPLOAD speed to get a completely blue Speed Test.

Slower than that and you’re likely to get pixelation and lag.

  • Mercenary09

No real features here I care about. I wish you guys would add a wish list to the console store, gifting to friends, a system wide trophy tracking system, and a monthly trophy friend leaderboard so we can see how we are doing that month compared to others.

    • Boobalvarado

Everything you listed is pretty lame. No offense. Can’t see them doing any of this. Maybe the gifting but even that is kind of pointless. Just get a gift card

    • I’d like deeper trophy systems too, it’s been the same for ages

    • SZRT_CIC_Ice

Great ideas Mercenary! Especially gifting to friends & family around the continent. I’d also like trophy sorting via progress/percentage completed, Platinum Acquired/Not Acquired, PS4/PS3/PS Vita, Platinum Rarity, gameplay stats on individual games (which PS keeps tabs on, as occasional e-mails are sent out w/ stats included).

    • miss-Moggydoll-x

Totally agree. I’d love that. Meh, boring update…

    • Boobalvarado, lame? What’s lame is to have a wishlist on the web store and not the in playform of the PS…

Also it’d be nice to receive notifications of when something on the wishlist get’s a discount, instead of having to go in to check it out.

    • I do like the ideas you posted, however, this update will help communication for people who have difficulties in party chat.

    • Sorry bud you’ll have to go to Xbox for that

  • In a future update, can we get the ability to make multiple button mapping profiles under Accessibility?

    • @kratos1984 I definitely agree.

    • Boobalvarado

      This would be useful..

    • SZRT_CIC_Ice

It would also be nice if button mapping could be optionally separated between gameplay & menu automatically.

    • HugoStiglitz_420

That would be awesome. Most games I just swap the analog sticks but uncharted 4 I swap circle with R1 and a few other things.

But tbh I’m just so happy that ps4 even has custom button assignments. Switch doesn’t and it’s ruined a few games for me since I’m a southpaw player since the 90s and turok 1

      Great idea though

  • Kaptain_Arabia

    Trophy progress :( ?

  • Hold up…..Remote play will be on ALL android devices now!!??? When will it be released???

    • This took me by surprise too, but am very happy about it. Android Remote Play has been a big ask for a while now after iOS got it. Glad to see it coming to Android.

My guess is the PS4 Remote Play app for Android is being added to the Google Play store around when 7.00 comes out. 7.00 will likely be required to run Remote Play with the Android app also, so I imagine this will all happen around the same time whenever 7.00 is released this week

    • Boobalvarado

Yeah, Super exited about this too as well as the Dualshock 4 support..

  • DECH-4000AA

Very epic, thanks for sharing Playstation

  • InfinityGems

Looking forward to Remote Play on Android. Hope a wishlist feature gets implemented soon as well.

  • With such attention to apple devices, wish PS Now comes to macos/ios any time soon

  • vex123456789

Sony sony sony tch tch tch this just wont do wont do at all ben a long time all that money from us and all u give in return is just a 16 player party thats it your pathetic your laughing stock even more so when you compare the Ps4 to the Xbox one witch is your competition/business rival how come the xbox always improveing adding new features and apps in updates just got a new home menu design all the money u get from everyone and u give nuthing but 1 improvement cant call it a feature because its not pardon me but your a joke sony xbox always always gets new features and updates all the time ps4 gets nada nuthing zero laughable sony laughable sad and pathetic

    • HugoStiglitz_420

Drama queen. Stay salty sad boi

    • SolidZone26

Who cares about those? Xbox gets new features and updates, but no games. It’s so bad even third party companies are not porting their games to it and port on the Switch. Xbox is the joke lol.

    • SolidZone26 hey guess what the war between Xbox and PS is over were against PC now didn’t you hear

  • When you say “audio quality improved” you mean voice chat as well? Because I use a Blue Yeti and I wish it sounded as well on my PS4 as it does on my PC.
Please consider adding a feature to sort our trophies by name.

    • I’m curious how you think text chat could get an audio improvement…

      SMH

    • SpideyRules, not sure if that’s a joke, but he meant audio quality in games.

    • HugoStiglitz_420

      True that lol

I think the sample rate of ps4 mic audio is only 22 KHz. That’s why it sounds so bad. Xbox has the same problem tho

  • Some thoughts:

Most devices won’t have Android 10 for a while, so choosing this OS for the mobile platform is going to severely limit usage. Android 9.0 would have been a better option for a target group.

We need another Streaming platform supported, such as Facebook and Mixer. Not all of us use or want to use YouTube and Twitch. It would be nice to bypass using a PC with Remote Play to have access to Facebook and Mixer.

It would be nice to have Streaming chat diverted to the PS4 Remote App for phones during streaming. The chat in the streaming page is awkward to read at times.

Adding more support for USB Camera equipment for video capture would be nice. It would be nice to have any webcam available for usage with the PS4 supported even if it’s a simple IP based Camera using mjpeg.

    • Boobalvarado

Pixel 3 XL! See you guys on Android 10!!!

    • Android 10 is only required for using a DS4 wirelessly. Remote Play app will run on Android 5.0+

    • Mixer is a Microsoft service that caters to Xbox and PC, why would you want that? Plus it’s tiny compared to Twitch.

    • You dont need android 10. It’s only for wireless Ds4 functionality. You can still use a USB cable on android 9 or below.

    • GrimCheeferGamin

Along these lines, it would be nice if there was more integration between YouTube and the PS4. For example, give me a place to enter a stream key, so I can actually setup a stream through YouTube ahead of time instead of always having to do it on the fly and have viewers trickle in instead of knowing ahead of time that I’ll be on.

    • The enhanced DS4 support is actually built in to Android 10. Sony and Google worked together to officially add full support for the DS4. That’s why older Android versions have more limited DS4 support—because it technically isn’t officially supported.

    • HugoStiglitz_420

Most devices will never have android 10. Only the newest phones get updated to new android versions. I got updated to 9, but won’t be getting 10. I highly doubt Samsung would update the s8 to 10

  • Cool, but WHEN this week will we receive this update?

  • What about Trophy progress ?

  • bassslammers

Looking forward to using DS4 on ipad via remote play.

  • bluenazgul1982

Sadly Remote Play is still not in PlayStore for Huawei Mate 20 Pro on Android 9

    • Boobalvarado

It isn’t out yet and you would need Android 10

    • Android 5.0+ for Remote Play and 10 for Wireless DS4 usage. But like already stated it’s not out til later this week.

    • Bauti_Pro_Hacker

The same as you dude. Have a Samsung j6 plus with android 9 and see its not available yet in playstore the RPlay app.

  • arifdiamanta

So, for be able to use their DualShock 4 wireless controllers via Bluetooth for Remote Play on an Android; we need Android 10 phones? Not many people have Android 10 phones. Can we remote play with SD4 connect wirelessly direct to PS4?

  • A fixed bug that excludes the game when connected to an external storage device (SSD): (CE-34878-0).
my Seagate Game Drive for PlayStation 4 2TB STGD2000400 2.5 USB 3.0 hard drive is connected

    • HugoStiglitz_420

Excludes the game? Was your external drive ever connected to another ps4 by chance?

I had an issue with spotify for a long time . It would say I didn’t have it but when I’d try to install it it would claim that I already had it installed. It ended up being because it was installed on my external drive but I had installed it on my original PS for a. When I plugged my external into my old PS for I was able to delete spotify and that fixed the problem

  • xxGANGSTER809xx

Awesome post and nice new i love it from 8-16 player cool…

  • Remote Play still exclusive to Xperia on Google store.

    Sony does its Sony again.

    • Boobalvarado

They clearly said ALL devices.. It hasn’t been released yet so calm yourself. Breathe a little

    • well sales of Xperia phones aren’t really that great to be honest, so I guess they can now open Remote Play on all Android Devices (5.0+). But its good of them to do this finally.

  • Why there is no Bluetooth support for the Remote Play on the PC?? :/

    • Because it requires Microsoft put in drivers for every single bluetooth card ever made so that what ever random Bluetooth card you buy from some one they never heard of ever before works..
Compliance by default is up to the driver maker for your bluetooth card..
Thats why MAC OSX worked because they used Limited hardware… Google Now forces compliance at there OS level with the kernal in android as well as forced chip set hardware support…

    • HugoStiglitz_420

      Because Microsoft sucks lol

    • Hey calm down about Microsoft sucking lmao they’re a much bigger company then sony

  • EL-MAGIKO-87

Add support for Apple Earpods bluetoth please

    • HugoStiglitz_420

They can’t. You’re gonna need a bluetooth transmitter to do that. Also, if you want voice chat, make sure it supports it. There definitely are some on Amazon. I have 2 actually. One is for my switch but it has a USB a adapter as well

  • My friends have been having issues with parties for years when playing Monster Hunter games so i’m happy to see it’s finally getting attention.

  • Remote play for Android. Thanks for listening. I love you guys.
Although my Vita will miss some action!

  • Great update! I’m looking forward to the better audio quality in party. :D

But may I ask why the speech-to-text (and vise versa) feature is limited to US only? Does that mean to US English as a language, or is it locked to US accounts completely? Will it eventually roll out to other languages or territories? (depending on the previous question)

  • Excellent news regarding remote play for Android! I was really looking forward for this option for some time. Keep it up!

  • What about adding a feature to let us use any kind of Bluetooth connected headphones or headset? Not just have us limited to a variety.

    • Bluetooth support is the same for all bluetooth APTX and AD2P headsets…
NONE are supported all of them will fail to connect no matter what brand they are all treated the same from day 1 of release.. No support…
USB RF wireless is not bluetooth and there are thousands of RF wireless to choose from…

    • HugoStiglitz_420

It’s a hardware issue I think. You need a bluetooth transmitter. Either a 3.5mm type plugged into the controller or a USB A type plugged into ps4s USB ports

  • How about fixing auto-update downloads when the setting is turned off in the settings? Not everyone has unlimited data with their internet plan!! Thanks

    • HugoStiglitz_420

Man that must really suck. But turning it off really doesn’t work? That’s odd. My issue is it only updates games I’ve played recently

    • No doubt, used to have a 10GB ($100/month) limit before overage charges on my cell hub (rural Alberta….) I’d have to haul the ps to my brothers whenever I wanted to update anything as there’s no easy way to patch otherwise….
I caught Destiny at 12Gb one time….. coulda been worse, but, there went $20 extra and playing online that month…. There’s a constant possibility of it charging $1000’s in overage if it happens unattended.
Seems to happen when the network starts/stops Or when it loses power unintentionally (ie. power interruption) and restarts.

      Sidenote:
Gots 50Gb/month at present, government mandated (finally) unlimited has recently become available, they (isps) require you to buy their “new” hub tho ($3-400) before you are “eligible” of course so it’s comin’

  • Found the remote play app on Android but it only supports Xperia devices on Android for now .
Hoping this changes when 7.00 comes out.

  • Will Sony ever support wireless earbuds for audio and party chat?
Even with a dongle in the controller, buds not supported.
    Jabras here.

    • HugoStiglitz_420

You’d need a bluetooth transmitter. They make 3.5mm and USB A transmitters on Amazon. Some made for the switch will work if they have a USB C to A adapter like mine

  • Remote play confirmed for all android devices on Android 5-10 later this week will be app on Google play to be rolled out with PS4 update to 7.00.

  • The feature I was looking forward to most was the ability to tweak HDR settings, I don’t see any mention of this now. Some games are much too dark in areas and I was really hoping this would help. I hope the HDR settings are still part of this update.

    • Same here, I heard about this update having HDR settings and that’s what I’m looking forward to the most.

    • HugoStiglitz_420

Oh I didn’t even notice that. That’s awesome. My TV has poor hdr brightness so I could use some settings. I still like it though. Much much better quality than the Samsung, LG’s and vizios in the same price range (it’s a TCL). Do wish I got the $600 one though. Would’ve avoided this issue entirely. Low input lag tho

  • When will be trophy progression?

  • terrorize772

Will the update for party connectivity fix share play. I have not been able too use it for over a year and a half.

  • It would be great since cross-play is now being supported for the future, that we can get a discord app that runs on playstation 4 to be able to talk to others on different platforms.

  • Felipe_Rubens

You guys should add a push to talk option on audio chat. I don’t know, maybe pressing the PS button, and also do a partership with Discord so we can talk to our friends on PC, since now we have crossplataform option.

  • MrMichaelJames

Where is the AppleTV App? Thats the only one left out. Remote play would be perfect on TvOS

  • I look forward to trying Remote Play using iPad Pro or iPhone

  • GaMeR_bOi_83

Finally I can stop jumping between firmware. Had to downgrade a few times to join party chats. But when I do I notice a difference in party chat audio and network fluidity. Also I’m loving that HDR collaboration. Works very well.

  • Please improve the store for mobiles…. the size never fits, and lags a lot. The web version works better than the App one.
Also the download queue not always puts the game to download.

  • When will you allow minecraft to cross platform?

  • Well it’s about time this beta finished. I hope the firmware isn’t any slower than what it currently is. And of all ideas you picked 16 player chat? That’s gonna be a nightmare with 16 people talking over each other. Should have allowed the option to adjust each person’s mic level without having to tell each person to turn up/down their mic.

  • How about:
    – pin favorite games
    – buy games as a gift for psn friend

  • How about adding vChat (Video Chat) ??? You guys had it for PS3 then it disappeared for the next console, why ???? Whatever, it’ll never happen, oh well.

    PS3 Rules !!!!

    • I would also love to see a video chat. Especially if you could stream while video chatting. it would be awesome for doing interviews! I’m hoping we’ll get something for the PS5.

  • PlatinumDragon7

    Thank goodness! Finally

  • KingofSaiyanZ

Anyone know when Android 10 will be on Galaxy phones?

    • They’re usually a year late to the party Android 10 released on Pixel devices September but if they’re going to do the same thing they did with Android 9 it probably wouldn’t be out until May or June of next year
