Please join us in congratulating Obsidian, whose new narrative-focused adventure The Outer Worlds has earned the Players’ Choice award for October 2019! The surprisingly grounded new campaign in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare helped propel Infinity Ward’s newest outing into the runner-up spot, with our very own MediEvil rounding out the top three. Well-deserved acclaim on all parts! As always, thanks for voting — and stay tuned for November’s poll.

Lots of games this month! Hit the poll below to cast your vote for the best new game of October 2019, choosing from big releases like Modern Warfare, Concrete Genie, MediEvil, The Outer Worlds, ReadySet Heroes, Indivisible, Destiny 2: Shadowkeep, Afterparty, Outer Wilds, and a whole bunch more.

We’ll keep the polls open throughout this weekend, so make sure you get those votes in before Sunday at 11:59pm Pacific.

Two months to go… any predictions for November and December?

How does it work? At the end of every month, PlayStation.Blog will open a poll where you can vote for the best new game released that month. Soon thereafter, we’ll close the polls, tally your votes, and announce the winner at PlayStation.Blog. PlayStation Store will also showcase some top Players’ Choice winners throughout the year.

What is the voting criteria? That’s up to you! If you were only able to recommend one new release to a friend that month, which would it be? In keeping with our long tradition in the Game of the Year Awards, remastered or re-released games won’t qualify. Ambitious, larger-scale rebuilds and remakes like Shadow of the Colossus and Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy will.

How are nominees decided? The PlayStation.Blog and PlayStation Store editorial teams will gather a list of that month’s most noteworthy releases and use it to seed the poll. Write-in votes will be accepted.

Little point in voting. We all know COD is taking this regardless.

Fight for Concrete Genie and MediEvil!

Concrete Genie, MediEvil, and Children of Morta were all great, but MediEvil is just pure nostalgic gold

My pick is MediEvil. The game was so lovingly and faithfully recreated. It’s a joy to play, has numerous Easter eggs, and the game is beautiful. Perfect for October.

Vote MediEvil, or at least play it.

    • The only games that are worth voting are The Outer Worlds and Concrete Genie because they’re ORIGINAL!

The battle for #1 is closer than you might think!

    • furymachine325

My 1st choice for original game isnt even an option. I would choose Worse than Death. But since I cant I will go Interfectorem

    • Warrior902862

      It should be outerworlds

    • SullustanRebel92

I know. Cod MW will get so many awards and be hailed the return of COD and then we see the black ops 4 destruction of ruining the game

    • SullustanRebel92

I know COD will get a load of awards and then the black ops 4 style ruining of the game begins. At this point its not even don’t preorder cod wait till release its wait for 4 months after

Well with such blockbuster storyline for its campaign why not?

  • Fight for the outer worlds!!!

  • Had to give Concrete Genie some love!

    • SubtleBoarder

Absolutely. Such a great game for a great price. Worth every penny.

  • Stoffinator

I don’t see any place to vote.

But mine would go for Concrete Genie.

  • I think this’ll be close because outerworlds… give love to a game who gives love to it’s players

  • Voted for Plants vs Zombies knowing full well it doesn’t stand a chance of winning. ☹️

  • C0ND1T10NR3D

The Outer Worlds! By a mile.

  • Trails of Cold Steel 3 by far

  • I root for Afterparty with all the booze in my body! I love Nightschoolers! Play it, and play Oxenfree!

  • My vote is MediEvil. Even though I was 3 trophies (technically 1, the other 2 were easy and I was saving them for last for a nice Platinum trophy screenshot) away from platinum success. Then, he Deathly Smorgasbord trophy glitched on me. I died 18 different ways following online guides to make sure I did it properly. Tried dying in the level with the time limit which is supposed to reset things. Nothing. Then I read you could delete your save file and reinstall the game and start new hopefully avoiding the glitch. I didn’t want to do that so I remembered, “Hey, I have an OG PS4 that I never use.” Hooked it up, installed updates, deleted games to make room, and finally I was ready and hopeful. First level I died two different ways. Second level, two more different ways. Hopefully just three more to go. I started the second level again so I could unlock the 3rd level and my power goes out. Man! I must have blown a fuse. I sat there annoyed, then noticed my lights were on. My TV was still on. My PS4 however was not on. I repeatedly pressed the power button, trying to resurrect it as if it were Sir Daniel Fortesque. No luck. It powers on for one second showing blue light then immediately off. So I’m three trophies away. A now broken PS4. And on top of it all, I can’t get my game out to get those final three trophies if a patch comes. All because of a glitch. Awesome.

Despite that, still my favorite game this month. Hopefully they make another MediEvil game.

    • I don’t know if you have an extension cord outlet or not, but I had the same problem with my PS4. It would power on for two seconds then shut down. So eventually I took the plug out of my extension cord outlet and put it into the wall outlet. Worked perfectly fine.

A couple months later after finding out that this is sadly a common problem since people say the PS4 uses a lot of power over time, I plugged the PS4 back into the extension cord outlet and it worked just fine again. Has been several months and haven’t had a problem since. Hopefully it works for your OG PS4 if you could try it.

    • Thanks MLTizzy, I’ll definitely try that. Would like a power strip work?

  • AL3MERH_2011

My vote goes to Trine 4

  • BlackEcho64

    the outer worlds!

  • iamtylerdurden1

    MediEvil all day.

Concrete Genie was great as well.

  • I know COD will win because of it’s popularity, but The Outer Worlds really deserves it 1000% more.

  • The Outer Worlds and Outer Wilds for an indie game

  • Pantera_rosa199

    Medievil

  • LEFT__4__DEAD__2

I like ghost recon breakpoint, Outerworld, MediEvil, Gundam and plants vs zombies, i pick gundam

    • I know it’s probably not going to win, but I did enjoy Ghost Recon as well. Medievil demo bought me back to 98, and even though I own it, I haven’t tried Modern Warfare yet, just the open beta. Outer Worlds looks like it may be good, I’ll check that out but probably not until next year, as it isn’t my preferred genre. So Breakpoint for me.

  • What a tough choice….Was debating between outer wilds and outer worlds…..had to vote outer wilds! That game is just pure genious! Just very well made all around!!

  • MediEvil perfect fit for a October game.

  • NERVergoproxy

Is the winning game gonna be free?

  • You guy need to fix your polls so they work in FireFox. Millions of people use FireFox.

  • FinalMiracle13

Outer Wilds is my vote hands down. It is Game of the Year by a mile unless Death Stranding wins.

Otherwise, I would cast my vote for Outer Worlds. Bringing the RPG genre to how it should be and showing Bioware and Bethesda how it is done.

  • The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel III all the way

  • Atelier Ryza’s not on here

  • It’ll be either Outer Worlds or Modern Warfare

  • I would vote for Borderlands 3, but it wasn’t even on the list.

  • AquaPiratePup

I really like The Outer Worlds, but Concrete Genie is special to me. It’s so colorful and calming and it’s the most I’ve really enjoyed a game in a long time, despite getting new games all the time.

  • JayBizzle311

The Outer Worlds for me… Second choice would be Children of Morta. They’re the only “new” games this month that I purchased.

  • BattleToadGX

The most interesting games for this month has to be The Outer World.

  • Zombkill559

MW is a great game, mechanics, weapons, some maps, etc., but the community is so horrible. Majority are campers

    • Why is that a bad thing? The people you play against should play how you want them to? People have different play styles. So if you were in a war, you’d just run around hip firing?

  • My vote goes to OUTER WORLDS. I really like the depth they put into this game with a lot of the gameplay people have been craving. Also it’s great that they just released a full game that you buy and can fully play with no micro transactions. This gives a way better value and I appreciate that.

  • ILL-KNOTS702

Modern Warfare easy I mean it’s the closest to a PS5 quality game.

  • I like Outerworlds so far. Got it free for GamePass for PC. My only gripe is that the game crashes a lot.

  • Mercenary09

Surprised Outer Worlds actually got it over COD. Congrats to them and to MediEvil for taking third place.

  • This game is awesome I cant stop playing. I love how everything looks in 4k and the gameplay is adventurous.
