Since revealing The Last of Us Part II, we’ve been overwhelmed by the response from the community. In no time at all, you were sharing your covers of “Through the Valley,” photos of your picture-perfect cosplay, your beautiful fan art submissions, and even your real-life tattoos inspired by Ellie’s. Your passion humbles and inspires us and every year we celebrate The Last of Us community with Outbreak Day on September 26—the date the infection hit critical mass in The Last of Us.
This year marks our fourth Outbreak Day and we’re kicking things off with a brand-new The Last of Us Part II poster, PS4 system theme and T-shirt, as well as hosting a week of sales on select The Last of Us content on the PlayStation Store.
Just in time for the launch of Uncharted: The Lost Legacy next week, we’re excited to announce a new update for Uncharted 4 Multiplayer that adds new Uncharted: The Lost Legacy character skins, an all-new playable character, and a new cooperative challenge mode: Survival Arena.
Arriving alongside Uncharted: The Lost Legacy on August 22, the update will introduce new skins for Chloe and Nadine featuring character models and outfits pulled directly from Uncharted: The Lost Legacy. We’ll also be adding Asav, Uncharted: The Lost Legacy’s antagonist as a playable villain character for Multiplayer and Survival, complete with his own uniquely menacing VO.
It’s an exciting time for everyone here at Naughty Dog. After spending just over a year developing Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, in just a few short weeks it’ll be in your hands. In preparation, last week we revealed nearly 14 minutes of new gameplay footage and now, we’re excited to share a behind-the-scenes look at the game. Our friends at PlayStation recently visited the studio to sit down with Creative Director, Shaun Escayg, and Game Director, Kurt Margenau to discuss how the project began, the story we ultimately wanted to tell, and some of the new gameplay elements you’ll experience when the game launches, beginning on August 22.
Watch the video above to hear directly from Shaun and Kurt and see some brand-new footage from the game.
Last week at E3, we were thrilled to share more of what we’ve been working on in Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, including the debut of our new story trailer and a never-before-seen gameplay demo at the PlayStation booth. However, we wanted to make sure that everyone who couldn’t make it to the show had their chance to see it by posting it online. Check it out above.
As Uncharted 4’s one-year anniversary approaches, we’re continuing to release new content for Multiplayer, as promised in the roadmap we shared just before launch. It’s been an incredible DLC update season so far and we’ve got more to come, beginning this week with an all-new drop this Friday, March 17 that includes a new mode, new weapons, new vanity items, and more.
At Naughty Dog, we strive to make you, the player, feel as though you inhabit the stories, characters, and worlds we create. If we’re doing our job right, every aspect should feel believable and grounded in our fiction and we should elicit the same response in you as the characters are experiencing in the game.
The key to it all is in details. Whether it’s animation, lighting, performance capture, dialog, or environment design, we spend a lot of time on even the smallest details that, when they all work together, help establish that emotional connection and sense of immersion.
In the lore of The Last of Us, September 26 represents the day the Cordyceps virus reached critical mass. A grim day for the inhabitants of that world, perhaps, but for Naughty Dog and The Last of Us community, it’s Outbreak Day—an annual fan celebration featuring deals on the game, DLC, and merch, as well as the debut of new collectibles, and more.
