As Uncharted 4’s one-year anniversary approaches, we’re continuing to release new content for Multiplayer, as promised in the roadmap we shared just before launch. It’s been an incredible DLC update season so far and we’ve got more to come, beginning this week with an all-new drop this Friday, March 17 that includes a new mode, new weapons, new vanity items, and more.
At Naughty Dog, we strive to make you, the player, feel as though you inhabit the stories, characters, and worlds we create. If we’re doing our job right, every aspect should feel believable and grounded in our fiction and we should elicit the same response in you as the characters are experiencing in the game.
The key to it all is in details. Whether it’s animation, lighting, performance capture, dialog, or environment design, we spend a lot of time on even the smallest details that, when they all work together, help establish that emotional connection and sense of immersion.
In the lore of The Last of Us, September 26 represents the day the Cordyceps virus reached critical mass. A grim day for the inhabitants of that world, perhaps, but for Naughty Dog and The Last of Us community, it’s Outbreak Day—an annual fan celebration featuring deals on the game, DLC, and merch, as well as the debut of new collectibles, and more.
It’s been just over a month since we launched Uncharted: 4 Lost Treasures DLC — our first multiplayer DLC update for Uncharted 4 Multiplayer, which introduced a new map, new weapons, a new Mystical, our revamped Rank System, and more.
Since then we’ve been hard at work on our next major multiplayer DLC release and gathering player feedback as we continue to evolve the multiplayer experience. One comment we see and hear the most is “Release more maps!” Rest assured, we’ve heard you loud and clear and today we’re excited to introduce New Devon, an all-new multiplayer map launching today in Uncharted 4 Multiplayer.
With Uncharted 4 Multiplayer, we wanted to give players more choice — whether it’s more ways to personalize your character, more variety in weapons and gear, more control over your loadouts, or new ways to celebrate victories over your enemies. Most importantly, we wanted to keep introducing new multiplayer content well after launch.
Since launching in May, our Uncharted 4 Multiplayer community has been celebrating victories over their enemies with The Pop and Lock, The Robot, The Dab, and a collection of other elaborate dance taunts. As the ultimate expression of your triumph in multiplayer, we knew we had to make them as authentic as possible and fun to watch, which is why we enlisted the help of professional choreographers Matt Steffanina and Dana Alexa. Together, they donned motion capture suits and performed the array of modern and classic dance routines that you can now find in-game. To show you how we brought Matt and Dana’s performances to life in Uncharted 4 Multiplayer, check out this new video that offers behind-the-scenes footage.
