Star Wars Battlefront II Beta Starts Today for Pre-Orders

Posted by on Oct 04, 2017

The Star Wars Battlefront II Beta officially lands this week! For players who pre-ordered, you can access the beta now. For everyone else, it opens up on October 6 and runs through October 9th. Players can look forward to experiencing four different ways to play in battles across all three cinematic eras.

In Galactic Assault, join a team of Separatist battle droids in a three-stage attack on the royal palace in the capital city of Theed on Naboo. As you fight, you’ll earn Battle Points which can be redeemed during respawns to call in supporting vehicles, upgrade to a B2 Super Battle Droid, or become iconic characters like Darth Maul. And when you want to take a break from multiplayer, hop into Arcade mode and play against AI opponents.

In the space above Fondor, engage in Starfighter Assault mode and hop into the cockpit of an A-wing, X-wing, or Y-wing to start your attack run on an Imperial Star Destroyer. You can collect Battle Points in this mode as well, redeeming them to activate Hero Ships like Han Solo’s Millennium Falcon and Poe Dameron’s X-wing, Black One. When the battle ends, join the Empire and help fight off the opposition.

Introducing Arcade Mode in the Star Wars Battlefront II Beta

Posted by on Sep 26, 2017

By now you’ve probably seen quite a bit of Star Wars Battlefront II’s exciting class-based multiplayer and heard about the recently-revealed Starfighter Assault mode. Both of those will be available in the upcoming Beta, but that’s not all that’ll be included. Beta will also be your first chance to experience the fast, adaptable new mode, Arcade.

Arcade is a new mode allowing you to take on AI enemies and hone your skills across a variety of scenarios. In the Beta, you’ll have two options: a 10-on-10 team battle with AI allies and enemies, and a Hero vs. many scenario where you’ll take control of Darth Maul and fight against legions of foes on Naboo.

The Beta will provide a small taste of Arcade on the Theed map, but the full version will have you test your wits and reflexes in all three eras of Star Wars. Teamed up with AI-controlled allies, you’ll arm yourself with your favorite assortment of weapons and abilities, carefully tailoring your loadout for the battle ahead. In the full release, you’ll be able to bring the Star Cards, weapons, and unlocked abilities from multiplayer with you into Arcade. Apply your favorite fine-tuned hero and class builds against AI opponents and test out new strategies before trying them online. On consoles, you’ll also be able to team up with a friend or battle against one another in split screen versus.

First Hands-on: Star Wars Battlefront II Starfighter Assault

Posted by on Aug 25, 2017

Starfighter Assault is Criterion’s contribution to this November’s Star Wars Battlefront II, the multi-studio collaboration that is EA’s return to a galaxy far, far away.

The Guilford-based studio’s heritage is rich in racing franchises (Burnout, Need for Speed), and it is applying that discipline – a fine splice of arcade thrills, missile-like speed and perfect handling – to the saga in the form of starfighter-exclusive clashes.

Battlefront’s been here before obviously: the original’s Fighter Squadron stuck players to the skies above (and in the case of Cloud City, around) iconic locations. But Criterion’s looking beyond the clouds to the stars for its settings and Battlefront’s Walker Assault for its structure. 24 players, split into two teams, battling for victory across three evolving objectives and a host of side missions in one action-packed match.
