2018 has been a banner year for Worldwide Studios, with great games like God of War, Astro Bot Rescue Mission, and MLB: The Show, as well as other PS4-exclusive games — each of which demonstrate what makes PlayStation the best place to play.
But the Worldwide Studios team is hard at work. We wanted to give you a status check on the next wave of innovative experiences from our studios in Bend, OR; Tokyo; San Mateo, CA; London; and more. Each title is as varied as its hometown!
In addition to revealing the release date, the trailer introduces two new animal threats: mountain lions, or cougars, and infected ravens – called Criers in our world. We see another ambush event as Marauders torch an old vehicle and roll it onto the highway trying to knock Deacon from his bike. And the video ends with Deacon running out of gas out in the middle of nowhere – a quiet moment, perhaps, but maybe the deadliest of all.
Tune in for a slightly more intimate show with Sid and Justin, headlined by an interview with the crew behind apocalyptic biker survival sim Days Gone.
It’s almost time! On today’s program we invite the one and only Geoff Keighley on to discuss all the games that appeared at our pre-E3 briefing earlier this month, including Days Gone and Dreams. Plus, a huge roundup of news stories from the world of PlayStation this week. Enjoy the show!
Turns out that 20 minutes is barely enough time to scratch the surface of Days Gone, Bend Studio’s ambitious action-survival epic. This game is deep, and there is a lot to take in. After my nail-biting gameplay session, I wanted nothing more than to curl up with it for a weekend to really see what it can do.
Hear that? That’s the sound of multiple Trophies being unlocked worldwide, as we try and clear our backlog in anticipation for what’s ahead in 2018 and beyond. Some of the gamers causing that iconic sound to ring out? Developers of your favourite games this year, who are also rushing to clear their gaming calendars.
We asked them what titles have got them personally excited. Here’s their selection.
At the E3 2017 Media Showcase we premiered a new gameplay demo for Days Gone that focused on open-world dynamic events. Behind closed doors, we showed an alternate-path of the demo, changing up the weather, time-of-day, and play style. Our goal for this second demo was to show that changing something like the weather was more than cosmetic — it could significantly impact the experience.
After the dust from E3 settled, I sat down with Sam Witwer — who plays Deacon St. John — to watch the Alternate-Path Gameplay Demo and talk about some of the things we’re trying to do in Days Gone.
With the chaos of E3 behind us, it’s time to tally the votes and declare the winners of the show, as voted by you! As a reminder, the three categories you voted in were “Best Trailer,” “Most Anticipated PS4 Game,” and “Most Anticipated PS VR Game.” Competition was fierce in all three fields, but each saw a clear winner… and one game in particular won the day in two of the three available categories.
Without further ado… the winners!
