When we unveiled a bold, daunting, new direction for God of War at E3 2016, Cory wrote here “Change is an essential part of life. In creative development change is often the explosive spark that transforms good enough into truly memorable.” As we sit here in the studio on the cusp of our content lock for the game, I can tell you our team’s souls are downright driven to nail those memorable moments with as much determination as Kratos and Atreus are on their incredible journey. There are no Soul Eaters lurking in these halls, though today you may think otherwise with our studio Halloween decorations. This team is making it happen once again through perseverance, passion, and determination.
With the chaos of E3 behind us, it’s time to tally the votes and declare the winners of the show, as voted by you! As a reminder, the three categories you voted in were “Best Trailer,” “Most Anticipated PS4 Game,” and “Most Anticipated PS VR Game.” Competition was fierce in all three fields, but each saw a clear winner… and one game in particular won the day in two of the three available categories.
Without further ado… the winners!
As we journey towards early 2018, we want to bring you behind-the-curtain of God of War’s development with stories you may not hear anywhere else. This is a new beginning, and a deeply personal quest for the franchise and Santa Monica Studio. We’re very excited to bring you into the heart and soul of our process. Follow us @SonySantaMonica to always stay informed.
As you’ve likely picked up on in the two trailers released to date, Santa Monica Studio has some big, bold ideas for Kratos’ impending PS4 adventure.
Gone are the gods of Olympus. With his vengeance complete, Kratos now quietly resides in the realm of Norse gods and monsters. But he’s not alone. Central to the studio’s bold reimagining of its long running series is the introduction of Atreus, Kratos’ son. The youngster will be at your side throughout the game, as father and son embark on a deeply personal quest into the Norse wildlands.
Greetings fans of PlayStation around the world! I come to you through a foggy haze of sleep deprivation due to the major caffeine fueled push to get this crazy game further down the road to completion. While playing through the game with the leads recently I realized how incredibly fortunate I am to be able to make things that (hopefully) make people happy. We playtest the game exhaustively but still, as a team, we are pretty cut off from the players and fans over the multi-year course of developing a big game like this. While the time with play testers does give us a sense of what is working and what is not, it is getting a chance to sit down and spend some time with a passionate fan helps put so many things into perspective.
