All of us at Sucker Punch are looking forward to a big anniversary—we’re about to turn 20 years old! Unfortunately, we didn’t have enough room to invite all of you to our anniversary party, so we did the next best thing—we added Infamous: Second Son to your Instant Game Collection this month! Have fun!
Long ago, in October of 1997, five friends and I left cushy jobs at Microsoft, sublet some crappy office space down the street, and got to work on our first game.
We’ve been on Team Sony for a long time, but our first game was actually for the Nintendo 64—Rocket: Robot on Wheels, a light-hearted physics-based platformer starring a plucky maintenance robot who has to rescue a theme park from the dastardly clutches of a criminally-minded raccoon. After two years of hard work, a smattering of critical success, and a somewhat tepid response from the game-buying public, we took one important thing away from the project: “criminally-minded raccoon”.
When we started working on PS4 Pro, we knew the Infamous titles were going to be an amazing showcase for HDR and 4K resolution. If you played either of the games, you know that Infamous Second Son and Infamous First Light were a spectacle of vibrant superpowers and explosions inside a rainy Seattle cityscape.
Halloween happens to fall on a Friday this year, and to celebrate the kickoff of a Halloween weekend the SuckerPunch developers will host a special Twitch treat. Three years ago, after inFAMOUS 2 shipped, we looked at the calendar and realized we had the perfect window to do something really fun… a Halloween themed inFAMOUS DLC! That’s when Festival of Blood came to life.
Things don’t go as planned for Delsin Rowe, the smug but likeable hero of Infamous Second Son. Following the catastrophic events that shook the world in the first two games, Delsin’s super-powered status as a Conduit is laid bare after exposure to other superhumans. Delsin can absorb the powers of others, and then employ them for his own devices. He has serious potential, and that immense potential was on display during the PS4 launch event here in New York City this week.
Germany! I love Germany! Mostly for the beer. Also the pretzels, and Christmas smokers, funky sleds and gamescom. Can’t wait for gamescom! inFAMOUS Second Son will be there in full force. Our E3 trailer featured Delsin reveling in his powers using the Orbital Drop.
Here’s another entry in the “Conversation with Creators” series. The crew behind these came up and interviewed us about what it’s like making PS4 games, and our experiences with the DualShock 4 controller (which is great, by the way!). In addition to myself, Sucker Punch senior staff members Nate Fox, Jaime Griesemer and Horia Dociu discuss what developing Second Son has been like, and some of the things we’re each excited about…
As we’ve noted in the past few months, PlayStation stands for gamers. And because we stand with you, the PlayStation Nation, we want to offer you incredible deals on Black Friday to show our appreciation. If you don’t own PS Vita or PS3, now’s the time. PlayStation platforms will be paired with the biggest and best franchises in gaming, proving once again that PlayStation is the best place to play.
PS Vita’s game library is growing rapidly, and some of the biggest franchises in gaming are launching on the platform this holiday. In addition to the PlayStation Plus announcement providing an instant game collection for PS Vita, we are also celebrating the holidays with several incredible deals.
It’s been only a few weeks since we last talked to you about PlayStation Collections and believe it or not, they’re finally here!
Available today at retailers near you and September 25th on the PlayStation Store, the PlayStation Collection is packed to the, uh, packaging with extra digital content that guarantees you’ll be getting the most out of your purchase this fall. Whether for yourself or as a gift, these are going to be a great chance to check out some of our greatest exclusive franchises.
We’ve been really happy to see such a positive response from the community and thank you for your continued support of PlayStation. This is just the beginning.
