September’s Call of Duty WWII beta confidently demonstrated Sledgehammer Game’s vision and gameplay goals. Most notably, a return to the gritty and grounded setting of World War II.
But Sledgehammer’s ambitions extend far beyond a mere change in tone and scenery. With its new War Mode, the studio is looking to contribute a fresh chapter to Call of Duty’s competitive legacy. War Mode pits two teams against each other in a mission with shifting objectives that plays a bit like an FPS tug-of-war, with one sides digging in to hold ground and the other pushing forward relentlessly.
I enjoyed my time with War Modes, so I caught up with Multiplayer Designer Sean Soucy to learn more about the genesis of Sledgehammer’s gritty new gem. Read on, and get ready for November 3!
Sledgehammer is bringing a fresh new perspective to its new Nazi Zombies mode that will ship alongside Call of Duty: WWII on November 3. Like its spiritual predecessors, this Zombies experience is cloaked in mystery and mystique.
Luckily, Sledgehammer’s Cameron Dayton and Jon Horsley are giving us a peek behind the curtain. The basic premise — a four-player co-op battle against waves of murderous zombies — remains intact, but Sledgehammer is intent on adding its own unique fingerprint to the celebrated co-op series. What most struck me was Sledgehammer’s focus on generating fear in the player. Watch our new video interview to learn more about Sledgehammer’s plans.
Just a few days after D-Day, the Battle for Carentan took place in France as the United States Army battled the German Wehrmacht for control of the small French town less than 20 miles from Omaha Beach.
Carentan debuted as a Multiplayer map in Call of Duty, and a brand-new version of this fan-favorite is heading to Call of Duty: WWII. Featuring large exteriors with excellent sniper lanes, and interior areas for intense close combat, Carentan is a map that you won’t want to miss.
Recently, we were thrilled to announce PlayStation’s Limited Edition Call of Duty: WWII PS4 Bundle, which launches November 3, and is available for pre-order now. It includes a custom-designed 1TB PS4 console, complete with matching DualShock 4 controller and Call of Duty: WWII.
We are excited Call of Duty: WWII returns the franchise to the roots that made Call of Duty a household name. Our latest campaign highlights the courage, strength, and brotherhood of this era, and we can’t wait to dive in. We’re proud that PlayStation is the best place to play the latest installment of this classic series.
Ever since 2008’s Call of Duty: World at War, I’ve hugely appreciated the Zombies co-op mode that has evolved into a series staple. With Sledgehammer Games taking the reins for COD: WWII, I’ve been dying to learn how this talented studio will innovate on one of the most popular cooperative shooters in history.
This is an especially important question since some of Sledgehammer’s founding members were responsible for the horror classic Dead Space! So we tossed a batch of questions at COD: WWII’s Zombies lead Jon Horsley, senior director at Sledgehammer Games, to learn what the studio is up to. Read on to get the first nitty-gritty details on COD: WWII’s Zombies mode, straight from Sledgehammer.
Good news! This Wednesday at 10:00am Pacific Time, I’ll be sitting down with the team at Sledgehammer Games to get an exclusive preview of the second weekend of the Call of Duty: WWII Multiplayer Beta. We’ll be streaming live on Twitch, YouTube, and Facebook.
Call of Duty WWII’s PS4 beta is just one month away, which will represent the first time the massive Call of Duty community will experience Divisions, the game’s new approach to COD’s iconic create-a-class system.
Here’s an overview of the five Divisions, all of which will be included in the beta hitting next month.
During the Sony PlayStation E3 2017 Press Conference tonight, Activision debuted the first look at the Call of Duty: WWII Multiplayer, complete with the pounding sounds of war and actual flames while providing a scorching look at this highly anticipated game. However, the real heat came from the trailer itself, which you can watch above. Warning: have some ice nearby for your retinas.
As you can see, Call of Duty: WWII Multiplayer marks an exciting return to the franchise’s World War II roots and combat that defined the franchise. Prepare for fast-paced, grounded action with an arsenal of iconic weapons and equipment in the fight to liberate a continent in the throes of tyranny. Call of Duty: WWII immerses players in the brutal gameplay of history’s largest conflict.
